Requirements to publish on iBook Store for non-US residents

I recently applied to publish books on the iBook Store filling out the requested field as suggested by some users for non-US residents.
I still would like to receive some clarifications on the process and the rules governing book publishing for European residents. What are the requirements to publish ?
The following are my concerns:
Is it allowed to be a personal or legal entity in Europe and publish on the iBook Store ?
Is it required to have a Tax Identification Number in the USA to publish paid editions ?
Is it required to have a USA credit card or bank account ?
What about the USA witholdings required by law for Italy ?
Thank you for your help
Stefano

Hi Stefano
I am replying to this only because no one else have, I am not in Europe but in Canada, so i did experience some obstacles when trying to create my iTunes account. I would assume it would be similar for Europe.  Here are the answers to some of your questions from the Canadian perspective. perhaps they will apply to you as well?
Is it allowed to be a personal or legal entity in Europe and publish on the iBook Store ?I could do either but went with the legal entity
Is it required to have a Tax Identification Number in the USA to publish paid editions ?I did and simply hired a company to get the EIN as it I chose to do it under a corporate name.  It cost $250 and I had the number within 48hrs.
Is it required to have a USA credit card or bank account ?No
What about the USA witholdings required by law for Italy ?Apple is handling the sales taxes for the various countries, it is up to me to look after the corporate taxes
Hope this is a bit helpful to you

acrobat 7 requires admin password at every launch for non admin users?
any one with a solution or similar problem?
    thanks for any help.

I've been avidly following all of the threads regarding this issue...yet none of the solutions have worked for me. I've got 11 Mac users that do not use the Creative Suite..only Acrobat, Quark, etc. I've tried installing and re-installing through both Admin and User accounts, I've tried the AdobeBib XML change, I've tried enabling Root and installing, changing permission on the Acrobat folder, etc. all to no avail. I still get asked for Admin Authentication every time Acrobat and Distiller are opened (except on the Admin account side). This is happening on one particular Mac (G4, 1GB Ram, OS 10.4.3) for both Acrobat Standard 6 and 7 as well. The biggest issue that also happens in tandem with the Acrobat installs is the inability to print from Quark. I get the following error when printing: "The process "pictwpstops" terminated unexpectedly on signal 6." Because of the necessity to print Quark documents, I have uninstalled all Acrobat on the machines until we can get a fix. This resolves the printing problem with Quark. The only option left is to set up all users as Admin accounts - which I really do not want to do. Any other suggestions out there? I've got more information available if needed.

  • IBooks store for New Zealand Big disappointment

The only thing I am not happy with regarding my iPad is the iBook store. I'm assuming it's just the New Zealand one, but there are only free books. No best sellers like I was expecting. Is a huge let down as it was a big reason I bought it. Anyone know why this is?

Licensing rights are really difficult to negotiate. Unfortunately, there isn't a unified world licensing system, it has to be done country by country. I don't know if you were around, but I think the NZ version of the iTunes store followed the US version by 5 years, give or take. Even here in the US, there are lots of publishers missing.
If I were you, I'd download the Kindle App, and browse Amazon's selections. They have a much larger selection and more publishers. And, in many cases, lower prices. They have a 3 year head start on licensing. Of course, Kindle in NZ won't be available until late August, so you may not have access to the app.
Anyways, this is a bummer for a lot of countries. This will change over time as agreements are signed, one by one.

  • Publishing iBook for non US residents

I want to sell a book through the iTunes Store in Mexico and have followed all the steps but I can´t go forward because I'm asked to provide my EIN or SSN / ITIN. I live in Mexico, I am an independent author, and it is very difficult to get these documents through the IRS in the US (I'm not a US citizen and have never been a resident). Is there any way to get my books on sale without this information? Even if it's only for the iTunes store in Mexico?
    Thanks for the support!

    Hi Angelika,
You have a pretty name. I wonder were you are from?
You can get some FREE video's from www.Guba.com. They have free stuff as samples READY for iPod and they change them EVERY DAY. You can get music video's, TV, all sorts of stuff. Of course, witha CC you can also subscribe and surf GUBA without restriction but I have been downloading for 2 1/2 months just the free stuff.
Check it out! I would like to see you be able to do anything your heart desires with your video iPod! (but don't load firmware 1.1 - many problems)

  • App Store for Non-US Citizens

    Hello,
I seem a bit lost here. After reading all the posts I am still not sure. What exactly is the process for a non-US citizen in order to sell apps at the App Store? I do not own a business just solely develop applications. I have an address in the US and I am able to open a bank account but I reside overseas. So my questions are...
    How does Apple issue payout's?
If they issue you checks, do you receive them in your country if you live abroad?
How does a non-US citizen declare payout's if they are received in the US? And do taxes have to be filed?
IF there is something I am missing here that could be helpful please let me know (ex. ITIN). Thanks!

You may find this a helpful starting point for your research.   Good luck.

  • HT5071 Publishing from iBooks Author for approval

I am in the process of creating a book with iBooks Author and want to send it to contributors for approval. I know how to do it if they have an iPad. Is there a way to convert to another format for viewing with a Mac or PC?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Thanks KT,
Yes, problem is that the chapters are a combination of contextual text and sound bites.
If you are able to accomplish the same result with .epub format, this would be readable on all platforms.  But you would have to use some other app, like Pages, to create it.

Yes you can redownload the book from the iBook store as many times as you wish. You can do the same with apps from the app store.

  • Publishing Book on iBook Store - How Long To Wait?

Does any good soul know how long it usually takes to a book to get published on iBook Store after it gets delivered via iTunes Producer App? I uploaded a title about 5 days back and I see that the status of my book is 'Pending'. I am quite curious if somebody has a good experience about the waiting time in his/her case. And this will be really helpful to estimate or have a speculation about nearby searchable status of the book on iBook Store after the date the book got delivered via iTunes Producer. Reply is highly appreciated.

For me its always been 5 working days.
Also make sure On the Rights and Pricing page that the Sales Start Date for the country in question is in the past and Cleared for Sale shows Yes.

  • Proforma invoices for non-valuated returnable packaging

    All,
just wondering whether it is required to send a proforma invoice for non-valuated returnable packaging that is sent across a border.
Can anybody help me on that one?
    Thx in advance!
    Regards,
    B.

    Hi,
Going by std SAP best practices, if you are sending materials across the border and also entering foreign trade export data in your sales documents it is advisable to have a proforma invoice for your returnable packaging materials else they may be subject to other taxes, customs or excise duty.
You may check with SAP Global Trade Solutions to check about the implications in detail.

  • Do I need to apply for copyright when I publish a book to the iBook store through iBooks Author?

I am about to publish a book to the iBook store through iBooks Author. Would I need to apply for some sort of copyright? I have no experience so please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you

Copyright is an important legal issue and certainly complex. But in general, a good place to start is registering your book with the Library of Congress. You can do it by mail, and they will grant you a Library of Congress control number which you can place on your copyright page. This will register your book as your copyright and is well worth checking out.
Though, and I'm not sure, but you may have to have an ISBN so some cost is involved.
    Hope this helps.

  • Apple associated publishers for Ibook Store (example: Lulu, SmashWords) have not support for Ibook Author native format (.ibook)

Apple associated publishers for Ibook Store (example: Lulu, SmashWords) have not support for Ibook Author native format (.ibook) how ebook source. Only Word archives are supported.
Obtain TAX ID for non USA resident is impossible without pay to much money.
How to publish in Ibookstore a non USA resident author, in new Ibook Author format?

Regardless of what format you want to use, you can't publish in the iBookstore without meeting Apple's requirements, so if you find those too difficult, you need to go elsewhere.

  • How do I publish and ibook for free without a credit card

I am working with a teacher to publish her students work to the iBooks store. We are trying to download iTunes Connect.  She has tried to use her account and keeps hitting snags.  Her account information is correct but keeps getting rejected.  So I tried the school's account that was set up without a credit card.  The account is good but my error message is the account requires a credit card.  Isn't free, free?  We are just trying to get her students' work published.  SHe has found the authoring of books very engaging to her remedial students. The project falls short at this time until we get the publishing part fixed.  So, help!
    Thanks

It is all about iBook author.
In that case, other ebook stores will not be helpful, because iBA produces a special format (.ibooks) that only the iBookstore will accept (and which can only be read on an iPad, no other device).   It can also produce .pdf format, which is usable anywhere, but does not offer the same features.
The best way to distribute .ibooks format without a credit card would be via email attachment or putting it on a server for downloading by readers.
For other bookstores you would normally produce in .epub format (which can be read on any device, like .pdf). iBooks Author can't do that, but the Pages app can.

  • Can i publish an ibook for a very limited audience

Can I publish an iBook for a very limited audience?  Suppose that I only want to send it to 20 people.  Is that possible?

Um... yes. Just send it to the people you want to have it. Of course, nothing prevents them from giving it to others unless it's DRM protected, which would require you to sell it through the app store. I don't believe you can limit who is allowed to purchase it other than restricting it to a specific country.
