Requires immediate Restart after every booting

Hmm....this just started happening this evening. I came home, logged on to my computer and it booted up just fine. Within 30 seconds, the screen went grey and a window appeared that said I must restart my computer.
I restarted it and it did the same thing again. Did it twice more and it told me to restart twice more. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks.

Hi Jeff,
Unfortunately you are suffering Kernel Panics. These can be due to hardware or software issues but cheap RAM, dodgy USB drivers and devices, and corrupt OS are common causes.
I'd advise removing all 3rd Party RAM and all USB devices (except the Mouse and Keyboard) and the have a read of this article (Thanks to Dr Smoke).
Be sure to back-up your data as soon as possible. Later steps involve erasing the hard drive. If you need tips on how to do this let us know.
A systematic approach solves most of these issues so please do let us know how you get on.
Good Luck

  • Stop requiring system restart after update

I turn on my machine. Acrobat says there's an update available. I let it update. Then I get a dialog saying:
"You must restart the system before using Acrobat. Click Restart Now to restart automatically".
Come on! It's 2010... Requiring system restart after update is sooo 1990's...
Or put another way, I cannot remember when another app required system restart after updating. Only Acrobat does this nowadays. Please, stop this madness!

While Adobe doesn't deliberately try to annoy users,
it does not deliberately try to remove documented annoyances either.
There are still bugs in Acrobat 9 which have been documented for years, and no one seems interested to fix them.
Serious flaws ... like crashes and corruption of PDF files so they cannot be saved.  Hours of work lost.
Every 3rd time I select the Crop icon, I can expect Acrobat 9.4.5 to crash.
There is no excuse for an app to require full reboot on update.   C'mon, spend some time at
Microsoft Tech Support and figure it out.   Acrobat is also the last application I can remember
    requiring reboot.
I turn off Auto Update on both Acrobat and Windows.

  • PC restarts after I boot to desktop, help.

My pc was running great, then MSI Live update said it had a mobo flash bios update for me.  SO I flashed the BIOS and it said that it was done successfully and restarts my pc.  Next, after I boot up to my desktop in Win XP, my pc will all of a sudden reboot/restart.
    Please help.

After a BIOS flash you should power off your PC before booting into windows.
Remove the power cord or switch the PSU off.
Clear the CMOS for 10 mins.
Then place the CMOS jumper back to the normal position and turn on the PC.
Go into the BIOS and restore the BIOS settings you had before the flash.
Save and exit BIOS, then boot into windows.
So give that a try and post back.

  • Irritating: Recovered Files Folder in Trash after every boot

I have a clean installation of Snow Leopard on my 2009 iMac. The computer came with Leopard. But I gave uncle Steve $30 and got the Snow Leopard disc.
I did a clean installation; did not use any time machine recovery or reuse any old data. Just CLEAN.
Now, after each shut down and restart cycle, the Trash can has crumbled paper. This really bothers me. I thought Macs suppose to work correctly. I did not delete anything and nothing should be in that Trash. If OS deletes something, it should take care of it behind the curtain. I don't want to see trash in the Trash can.
So I opened the Trash and see what's inside it. Every time, it is a folder called Recovered Files, and it has 0 bytes in it.
I have no other software installed on the computer. All latest updates applied as of Mar 27.
    Any ideas?

Exact same problem here as Alex and Bishboria.
I'm always cleaning my Trash, whatever I reboot, shutdown or wake-up the computer from sleep mode, the previously empty trash get an empty "Recovered Files" folder...
This happens since Snow Leopard upgrade. Subsequent versions of Snow 10.6.x didn't correct this behavior.
Same wish than Alex: if the system is performing some auto-cleaning at each restart cycle, fine, I'm glad that the system takes care of itself and of my computer. But don't show me this empty folder... Let me handle MY trash! So that I know when I forget to empty it.
It should goes to another post, but this "bug" belongs to the (long?) list of Snow's glitches: longer time to boot, slugishness response from internal harddrive. Should I go back to Leopard which was so responsive? The brand new full-64bits-Kernel isn't it supposed to be faster, stronger, more efficient than the 32bits one?!

  • BSOD on restart after installing Boot Camp 4 Support Software

My install of Windows 7 Ultimate on a separate Boot Camp works until I try to install the Apple Boot Camp 4 Support Software. After I do so the system gives me BSOD on restart. I've tried the following suggestions from other threads:
    - Renaming/removing AppleHSF.sys and AppleMNT.sys
    - Removing BootCamp.exe from msconfig.exe
I've attached the error dumps associated with the BSOD, as well as a screen shot of the BSOD screen (see link below).
Windbg suggests that wininit.exe is likely causing the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not know exsactly what your issue could be. My advice would be to try and F8 Windows into safe mode and try to run a Disc check on the Windows partition to see if their are errors that might be fixed. If you have the Windows DVD you can boot into that and run repair apps from that. You may just have a corupt boot config and its causing the BSOD. I have a 2011 Macbook and have similar problem with freeze ups on Windows 7. Mostly after it has to reboot after a update? All I can think of after looking at my Windows Events viewer was that a problem with a driver was most likely the cause. I unfortunately have Mountain Lion and have to use BootCamp 4. Personally I have never had a issue with BootCamp until 4.0 and Mountain Lion. In fact when I upgraded to Mountain Lion I did so without the BootCamp partition and then I added BootCamp back in after Mountain Lion upgrade. When I fist tried to install Windows 7 BootCamp never did start the Windows install corectly. All it did was boot back into OS X. That should have been my first hint that things would not go well

  • Windows 7 Freezes at Restart After Installing Boot Camp Drivers

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro and am having troubles installing 32-Bit Windows 7. All seems to be functional until I install the Boot Camp drivers included on the Install Disk. I have tried using the Boot Camp 3.1 update, but the same problem occurs. After the computer freezes on the install page, I can no longer access Windows (even in Safe Mode) and am forced to restart the entire process (that is, repartition the hard drive and reinstall Windows).
If I don't install the Boot Camp drivers, Windows seems to be functional, so I'm pretty sure it's something in the Boot Camp package causing the trouble.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas or workarounds?

I finally got it to work. You need to go to the NVidia website and install their drivers. I think the Apple supplied ones are out of date and are causing Windows to hang. Install Boot Camp from the supplied DVD, install the update that Apple supplies through the newly installed Boot Camp, and then go to the NVidia website to manually download the drivers. I used the GeForce 300M series installer. Make sure you do all of this before letting Windows restart.
I had a few issues with it hanging a few times, but once I was able to get into Windows it seems to be working. All of the other Apple supplied drivers seem to work.

  • Tiff file launches right after every boot

Earlier this week I cloned my mac's original 160gb drive to a new 500gb drive and swapped them. Everything is great, except for one thing. When the system boots up, right as the desktop becomes usable, a tiff file, MainVolumeSliderTrackDisabled.tiff opens up in Preview. This file is a part of Movist, but that app wasn't updated anywhere near the time of the drive swap. The Movist forums don't have anything even related to this issue. This happens every time the computer boots up. I have no idea what could be causing this. Any suggestions?
I booted up on the original drive once after the clone and the tiff did not launch on boot. I swapped the drive and the clone popped the file on first boot and all boots since then. I'm really at a loss on this one.

Ok, feeling a bit sheepish at the moment. I can't believe I've never even noticed the Login Items panel before. Pardon me while I go sit in the corner with a dunce cap on for a while. Thanks, R C-R!

  • MacBook Retina shuts down after a few seconds after every boot

    Hi there
My retina macbook keeps shutting down after booting and rebooting by its own a minute later. No error message is displayed or anything like it, it just magically shuts down.
It had been working fine until now but it seems to be going crazy for whatever reason...
When it shuts down by itself, I can't turn it on myself. It does it on its own even if the lid is closed and then shuts down again after about 30 seconds.
This only happens when it's connected to a power source (it doesn't even start when it's not).
I have tried to reset the PRAM without success.
The only time the issue doesn't happen is when I do a Safe Boot.
Can anybody tell me what is up with my Macbook (I really need it for work AND school).
    Thanks

Mac mini shut down on its own. Could not restart, chime, grey screen and spinning wheel. Unplugged everything but monitor, still only chime, grey screen and spinning wheel. Started in safe boot, shut Down, will not restart.
This happened a couple of months ago, unplugged everything and it restarted, now that won't work.

    Hi BDAqua,
I just did the repair as you suggested. T ran the disc repair, and twice it cam back, the volume macintosh seems ti be okay, I also ran the verify and permissions repair, both came back okay.
I was actually hoping that they would find something, so they could repair. I shut the computer down, and restated with out holding a key, and I started up great. I'm baffled.  I have moved 20 GB to an external hard drive, as I only had 10% open space.
I have Tech Tool 6, would you recommend to run a repair check on that, or just leave well enough alone.
I agree with you on the new Mac's, I have problems with no disc for back up, until they realize their mistake I will stay with Snow a Leopard. This is the first problem I have experienced, so I can't complain. Their last programs are not as perfected as under Steve, prior to his handling over the reins, hope this is not going to be the future we can expect from Apple.
I will wait to here back as to your suggestion regarding the Tech Tool check
    Thanks for all your help.
    Gratefully,

Actually we were given a solution to this problem:
The node manager (NM) should restart managed servers (MS) upon reboot of the box.
There is one exception however - this can't happen if the MS is part of a cluster
and it hosts a migratable service. Currently there are two migratable services
    - JMS and JTA. You need to have explicitly setup the migratable services for the
    MS via the console.
Assuming you are not using these as migratable services you must explicitly set
a flag to indicate the MS is not hosting migratable services. This can be done
via the command line. It only needs to be done once and it will update the config.xml
    file. The command line is:
    java weblogic.Admin -url t3://adminhost:port -username <user> -password <password>
SET -mbean <domain>:Name=<MS name>,Type=Server -property HostsMigratableServices
    false
You should see a simple reply of 'OK'.
Once this is done your should be able to reboot the box and after restart the
    managed server should be running.
    It worked!

NM will only restart managed server's if they are abruptly killed.
We have no mechanism inplace to start managed server's upon system reboot.
May be you should write some startup scripts to start WLS upon system
    start.

  • Bug: Your last browsing session closed unexpectedly message after every boot

It appears HP Smart Web Printing 4.51 has a bug. After installing it on Vista Ultimate 64-bit Internet Explorer 8 (32-bit version), everytime I shutdown then start up the computer and open up Internet Explorer 8, I get the message:  "Your last browsing session closed unexpectedly. Restore your last session or Go to your home page". And this happens after I close down Internet Explorer 8 normally. This never happened before.
I did a test: closed down Internet Explorer 8 normally, uninstalled  HP Smart Web Printing 4.51, and rebooted my computer. The  "Your last browsing session closed unexpectedly" message did not appear anymore. Definitely a bug.

I'm sure that there can be other causes to this with IE, and if you are not running HP software on your XP then it is not related, however it is the cause for us running smart web printing on our particular machines.
I have four: two deesktops, two laptops, running from XP sp3 to win 7 RTM - all running ie8, all started the same issue after install of SWP latest version, note latest version. and all stop after that process is either prevented from running on startup, or the program is removed. Enough proof for me considering the history of this company's SW packages.
If I dont find another solution I plan on disabling the notification thru a registry edit. It's annoying more than helpful to receive it every single time you open for an initial session, plain and simple, and a result of bad coding.
