Requires password after screensaver

OS X 10.9 at MacBook Pro MD101
Everytime I wake up the system after screensave it requires password. Security settings are set to require password 4 hours after sleep or screen saver begins but in fact the system asks in immediately screensaver starts. Why it happens?
Moreover, if I choose cancel on a login screen the screensaver starts again but if I wake up the system it does not asks password. Strang...
Please help!

Hi, artzinoviev.
Sorry you're having trouble with your MacBook Pro requesting a password when you try and wake the machine up from sleep.
Seeing as it sounds like you have your security settings properly configured, you may want to try updating to the latest version of Mac OS X Mavericks.
The latest version is 10.9.2, and can be found in the updates tab in the App Store.
Hope this helps.

  • How to use Lion Server Profile Manager to require password after screensaver

Our Company is upgrading to Lion server. One of our requirments for network security is to require a password to wake the computer from sleep or screensaver. In SL Server you would add a key to the com.apple.screensaver entery in workgroup manager.
In Profile Manager in Lion server there is a custom setting section and I have tried adding a key there but it does not seem to work. Can anyone offer some help on how to put the require password to wake from sleep or screensaver in Profile Manager so the setting gets pushed out?

    Hi CodyCodes,
Just discovered the same issue today as well.  Further complicating things, the screensaver timeout setting in Login Window doesn't apply to Profile Manager clients no matter what the setting.  This was reproduced and confirmed by the Apple Tech I was working with.  He's submitted the bug to their engineering staff.  I requested that he ask them why there is no setting for password on sleep or screensaver.  Hopefully this is resolved soon, as this feature is 99% of the reason we're implementing Profile Manager to begin with.
    Cheers

  • "Require password after screen saver begins" & "Start Screen Saver"

    Hello All,
Can someone tell me what the UNIX command strings are to set 1) "Require password after screen saver begins" on, 2) "Start Screen Saver" to 15 minutes and (3) "Disable remote control infrared receiver" via ARD? I have over 100 clients and it would be nice to issue the commands instead of walking up to each Mac spread all over the campus. Most of the clients are running 3.3.1. Thanks!

    Hello, Mike
There may be a command and the UNIX forums would be the place to really find the answer.
The problem is that each User has their own Screen Saver and Security settings. They are not global settings. If ARD is set up to access all of the other systems, then you can do it right from your office and flag which ones have been configured with the new settings with labels.

  • How can I require a password to change the "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins" setting

My son has a habit of disabling the "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins" setting whenever my wife lets him play a game on her account.  I notice every other setting on the "Security & Privacy -> General" tab is protected by the lock on the lower left corner.  I've never understood why this one is not.  Is there any way that I can get that setting to also be controlled by the lock?

Because that setting is specific to the account currently logged in and doesn't potentially affect any others or the system itself, which is the level in general at which administrator or root access is required.

  • Iphone requires password after restarting??

    Hi.
My iPhone broke so my brother gave me his old 4s. I got it and it was jailbroken so i did a complete factory reset and updated it to the latest firmware. I gave it a full charge and the next day once it went to about 80% it turned off randomly, i tried turning it on, sometimes it would other times i would need to put it in charge again. It would always say once i had turned it on "Iphone requires password after restarting" so i assumed it was possibly a battery problem. So i bought a battery from ebay with decent ratings and replaced it. The iPhone no longer turns off every 10 minutes, but the battery does only last about 3-4 hours and usually once it goes to 15 or below it will turn off. Any idea what could be causing this?

I know it is normal, but is constantly restarting. As I said, this problem was happening every 10 minutes making the phone completely impractical before i replaced the battery, so changing the battery has actually made my phone usable and I actually get a good solid few hours on it whereas before i wasn't.
This would surely indicate that it is a problem other than the battery and its not really a question of the quality of the battery I have bought as the problem was persisting with the stock apple battery before hand.

  • Change background of "require password after waking" screen?

I have my iMac set to require password after it sits idle for a specified time. Screen saver does it's thing and then when I come back and move the mouse or hit a button, I get a totally black screen with the password field.
I would like to change the color or image of that screen. It is not the same as the "login screen." It does not show the desktop. It's plain, black.
I'm not even sure what to call this view of OSX. Anyone have any insight?

See these links for Mavericks. It might work in Lion as well.

  • Require password after wake or screensaver?

If my screen saver starts or my computer goes to sleep, I would like my computer to require password login upon wake? I've searched around various screen saver and power saver options, but I am not seeing this option. Can this be done?

    Hi Norm,
System Preferences>Security, first one on the bottom half, check Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver.

  • Contribute requires password after installing IE 7

After installing IE 7, Contribute (3.11) now asks for a

In the password file I set the password of the os
user oracle which owns installation. The Password for the password file is supposed to be the SYS password and not OS User oracle which owns installation.
I do not think the Oracle OS user password change is the problem. When you alter SYS password using the alter user command, it should change the password file automatically.
    Try
SVRMGR> connect sys/sys_password as see whether it works. If it does not, then check other issues.

  • Kids Corner requiring password after pin timeout

Hello, my wife and I both have an AT&T Lumia 920. We both setup Kids Corner and are both experiencing the exact same behavior as what users are complaining about here:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp8-wppersonal/kids-corner/f853dfe4-bfd3-4db1-951a...
To summarize, Kids Corner requires our PIN to get access to it, if enough time has passed for the PIN timeout to come into effect. This was completely unexpected for us both. We feel like it is a bug & not the proper behavior of this feature based on the way it was marketed. It seems to us to somewhat defeat the purpose, or at least be more cumbersome to use with the current behavior.
I am seeking an official response from Microsoft or Nokia, as to whether the behavior we are expecting is indeed the intended behavior. If so, we are certainly interested in a feature enhancement that would give the user an extra option in the Kids Corner settings to disable the requirement for a PIN at any time (regardless of the normal PIN timeout setting).
Thanks for your consideration & response to this issue.
    Sincerely,
    Doug Mortensen

I think the point of what most people thought kids corner would do is having kids be able to access the phone with apps and games specifically set to kids corner by the parent so that the kid would have access to kids corner at any time and in any situation without question.  So requiring the same PIN for your normal phone access and kids corner does not make sense since the child will need the pin to access the kids corner.  So at some point, the kid may figure out how to access the regular phone with the pin.
Of course, you can say, well, they shouldnt have the phone with you there anyway so you will be there to unlock, but isn't that what the kids corner is all about?  Kids being able to use your phone without potentiallyscrewing anything up on your phone while being able to play games as they please?
How it should work is kids corner requires no PINeven if you have a pin on your phone.  Plain and simple.
From my experience with kids, thye dont ask for the phone, they just take it and start playing with it, that is how it should be with kids corner.  A parent can give the phone to the kid on a trip or something and the kid can just swipe right to kids corner without a pin.  Done deal, of course, somebody in development wnats to make it more complicated than it really should be.

  • How can I return to login screen after screensaver??

I am trying to set up my Parents new Mac like their old Windows XP machine. When the Windows PC sat idle it went to screensaver and if the mouse was moved it returned to the login screen with their user icons.
On the Mac the option under Security "Require password after screensaver" will bring up a password prompt for the user who is currently logged in with a "Switch User" button.
Hitting that "Switch User" button will bring me to the login screen with the list of users and their icons. Does anyone know of a way where it will bypass prompting for a password and goto the login screen without hitting the "Switch Users" button?

it's possible but what's wrong with hitting "switch user"? that's really the easiest. anything else will require extra work. see this link

  • User ARD to tun on Require password at wake

I'm looking for a command to check the box in Preferences--Security & Privacy Require password after screensaver or sleep begins.
and set the time to 5 seconds.
There should be a pretty simple command i can push out over ARD or preference flag i can set?
I have 10.9 and 10.8 machines but i (hope) the command will work on both.
    Thanks!

For your computer to prompt you for a password when it returns from standby, you must select the "Prompt for password when computer goes off standby" check box on the Power Options Advanced tab:
    1. Start the Power Options Control Panel applet (Start, Settings, Control Panel, Power Options).
    2. Select the Advanced tab.
    3. Check the "Prompt for password when computer goes off standby" check box.
    4. Click OK.

  • Unexpected behaviour with "require password" and screen saver

In 10.6.x, I checked "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins" and after the invoking the screen saver (via a hot corner) moving the mouse or typing on the keyboard brought up a password dialog.
In Lion, this is what happens with the same settings:

That got posted somehow before I finished. Here is what happens:
The log in screen is displayed.
I select an account and log in.
The log in screen is displayed again.
I am logged in, but have obviously been logged out in the meantime.
This looks like a bug to me.

Why does my require password setting always revert back to 5 seconds?
    System Preferences>Security & Privacy

    Hi,
I tested on my computer that is running Windows 8, but I havenot encountered the same issue.  Could you please test the following thing.
    1. Disable Require Password after wake up in Power Options.
    2. Manually make the computer into Sleep Mode by the Power options in Charm bar rahter than close the lid.
    3. Wake up the computer and check whether the issue persists.

  • Have been advised by my email provider (recently blocked account requiring password reset) that they will only reset the password after a proven anti viru and malware scan has been done on ipad and iphone. Is this necessary and if so what do i use

Have been advised by my email provider (recently blocked account requiring password reset) that they will only reset the password after a proven anti virus and malware scan has been done on ipad and iphone. Is this necessary and if so what do i use

As KP has pointed out, there actually aren't any anti-virus programs in the App Store. There are a few that allow you to scan e-mail or stuff like that, and a few that provide you with information about malware and new threats for other systems. But none are available that can scan your iOS device for malware, because the security restrictions in iOS do not permit any apps to have that kind of access to anything. Which means that you also cannot be infected with a virus (unless you have jailbroken your device).
If your account got compromised, that had nothing whatsoever to do with your iPad. Someone simply hacked it remotely. Happens all the time. It's really amazing that, in this day and age, e-mail providers are so ignorant of technology and how their own systems get compromised that they would try to require you to run software that does not exist!
