Requiring fingerprint scanner to appear at boot with W530 laptop

It seems when I reboot, hibernate or shut down Windows 8, the next time the computer comes on, it asks me for my hard drive password.  It doesn't display the fingerprint bios login screen even though I have configured it to always be displayed and user for power on according to the options in the windows software and in bios.
If I poweroff when it doesn't work and then power on again , it will show the fingerprint option, meaning, I have to shut down twice to get it to reset itself.    When it does show the fingerprint scan option, I am able to auto-unlock the hard drive, so I know it has installed the password correctly.
Does anyone know how to get the bios to always show the fingerprint login option?   I think I've read and set the options correctly, but there seems to be a bug in how this works.
Also, if I try to power on with the fingerprint scan, the computer turns on, but sometime it still asks for the hard drive password instead of showing the fingerprint boot screen.   Does quick boot or anything else interfere with the fingerprint security options?

I found an option in windows power options - "change what the power buttons do" for "fast boot".  I disabled that, and now the fingerprint scan works when powering on after a full poweroff.
I also tried uncheck the option in device manager that allows windows to sleep the device.
I haven't found anything to force fingerprint pre-boot authentication to appear when resuming from hibernation or sleep. I have to type the hard drive password.  I tried using my finger, but the light sensor doesn't respond on the hard drive bios password screen.  It is only possible to scan on the white box scanning screen or when inside windows.
I'm not trying to login to windows.  I'm trying to have pre-boot authentication when resuming from hibernation/sleep.  It's not a big deal, but it would be more convenient and secure.  I noticed other people on this forum mentioning this issue, and there wasn't any solution posted yet.  It seems like you'd have to disable hibernate and sleep if you wanted to require fingerprint at pre-boot.

  • Satellite Pro S300 and AES1610 fingerprint scanner

    To whom it may concern,
I have a Toshiba Pro S300 laptop with AES1610 fingerprint scanner.
Everytime i boot windows and has been occuring for over a week now, it continually pops up wanting to install an update for AES1610, when you select ok to finish installing software it eventually opens up Truesuite Access software, and then wants to modify repair or remove.
Please can someone help me resolve this issue.
The fingerprint sensor and truesuite software is still fully operational as well.

    Hi
I had this happen with Vista, it seems that Vista is trying to install newer drivers from the Windows Update site.
Warning: this might delete your finger prints and any saved passwords in the utility so if this happens you will need to add them back, make sure you know your windows password as well to get back in.
    What I did from memory.
    1) Go through the setup and click Finish.
    2) Go to Start - Control Panel - Programs and Features
    3) Find the TrueSuite Access Manager entry and uninstall that program
    4) Reboot the machine.
    Then...
    1) Go to Start - Control Panel - Device Manager
    2) Find the Personal identification devices entry and expand to see the AuthenTec Inc entry, right click it and go to Update Driver Software and use Search Automatically. This should find the newer version that Windows wants to install from the update site, follow the wizard and that hopefully will be the end of it.
I think what is happening is Windows update is trying to install a newer version but as the older version is still on the machine it's setup program is detecting the driver/program has changed and is then prompting to re-install the older version, so you get stuck in a loop.
    Hope that helps.
    Regards
    Phil

  • Tried to install iTunes 10.5 this morning but an error appeared saying "problem with windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run." Can someone please help

I tried to install iTunes 10.5 this morning but an error appeared saying "problem with windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run." Can someone please help

Firstly, are you installing iTunes for the first time or are you updating your current version of iTunes?
If you're installing iTunes for the first time have you tried redownloading the installer package? Perhaps the file you downloaded originally is corrupted...
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you've tried that, then try installing iTunes as your computer's administrator. To do this right-click the install package and choose "Run as administrator".
If you're updating iTunes to the most recent version try repairing the Apple Software Update program on your computer. It's under the add/remove programs.
    1. Open the control panel
    2. Open Add/Remove programs (called "Programs and Features" in Windows 7)
    3. Navigate to "Apple Software Update" in the list and click on it
    4. Click on "Change" then select "Repair" (or just select the repair option in Windows 7)
Once you repair this, try running iTunes and the update again.
    Fingers crossed!

  • Fingerprint scanner issue with Win 7 and Satellite Pro A300

    SORRY MODEL IS A300.
Upgraded/overlayed Vista to Windows 7 Professional and have found fingerprint scanner not working.
Unable to remove program and wont accept fresh install of fingerprint scanner or even new fingerprint to be scanned. (Old Vista program working in background somehwere?)
Is the fingerprint scanner which was installed under Vista now not compatible with WIndows 7.
There seems to be no upgrades or downloads for Fingerprint Drivers for Windows 7 as yet.

    Hi mate
To be honest I doubt that Win 7 drivers would be published for this oldie.
I mean the Satellite Pro A30 is a older series and even Vista drivers were not published for this model row
I searched on the Toshiba European driver page but I found only the W2k, Win XP drivers for this unit
So if you want to use Win 7 on this notebook, then you need to collect the drivers at your own hand and this would be the same with the fingerprint reader. Maybe the driver designed and released for other series would work.
It looks like Toshiba is in progress of driver release for different series you could take a look to the different series and could try the drivers.

  • My fingerprint scanner will not work with Firefox 4.

I used to be able to use my fingerprint scanner to log into all of the websites I use like Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo etc... But now since I updated to Firefox 4 it doesn't work anymore. The program that I use is called Digital Persona. How do I fix this issue?

Another user got this from Digital Persona. <br />
"Thank you for contacting DigitalPersona. There will be no update releases for DigitalPersona Personal in the future. There will be no updates for Firefox 4 nor Internet Explorer 9. IF they work they work, if they do not work with DPPersonal, then you will have to decide to either keep DPPersonal and forgo Firefox 4 or IE 9, or vice versa. DigitalPersona is leaving the consumer market and is focusing on business applications. In fact, DigitalPersona Personal will not longer be supported after Mid-April of this year. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. Sincerely, Tech Team "
You could try this extension. <br />

  • My fingerprint scanner DOES NOT work with V4.0?

My HP Fingerprint scanner stopped working after installing V4.0?
I use it to log into MANY sites and now your new browser stopped it?

Definitely a make-it or break-it situation for me because I use my fingerprint reader for everyyyyything. It also doesn't work on Google Chrome, so I guess I'll be switching back to IE until it gets fixed...

  • IPhone 5C with fingerprint scanner

Apple has sent me an invitation to pre order this iPhone. However I have a huge concern, I have no finger or toe prints. Is there a way to work around this? I don't know who to ask about this.
    Thank you,
    Martha

Yes, the 5S has the fingerprint scanner.
And, any network news story that has a headline that starts, "Should you fear....." is just an attempt to generate page views by fearmongering.
    Best of luck.
P.S. Yes, I read the story and it's actually fairly balanced. But there's still no excuse for that sort of headline.

  • T430 doesn't resume correctly via fingerprint scanner

Hello, I have a pretty new T430 and occasionally (about 30% of time time) when I try to resume from hiberation or sleep via the fingerprint scanner, it will start to boot, maybe even show the desktop for a brief second, but then stop on a black screen. The cursor is visible and active, the fan and drive are running, but that's it. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button to force a shut down and boot again.
I'm running Windows 8, and I hoped that downloading the new driver from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS029769 would fix this, but it hasn't. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I posted the same exact issue yesterday, but somehow my post is gone.
I have a T510 and mine constantly does this (every time, never fails). I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times with no resolution. When I do a fingerprint login, it logs me in, shows the desktop and all active content/windows, and then goes right back to the fingerprint screen.
The only way to get it to "stick" (not go right back to the lock screen) is to quickly click and focus the mouse on some application/area within the desktop, as soon as it's visible for the split second that it's shown.
*NOTE*: Mine happens on login, not just resume. If my screen is locked because of idle and I try to log back in using the fingerprint reader this happens every time.

  • Solution for fingerprint scanner failure after ThinkVantage upgrade!

    Hi Everyone,
I keep seeing a number of posts about problems with the fingerprint scanner after you let the ThinkVantage updater run and update the fingerprint software.  I found a solution last week and it has been working flawlessly since then.  I posted it here:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=19388
However here is are the details:
I ran into the same problem, however I found a solution that has worked for me. I went into the control panel and open programs and features. What I noticed was that there were two different versions of the fingerprint software installed. I uninstalled both of them, rebooting when required until they were gone. I then downloaded the latest version of the fingerprint software from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70598
After installing it, my scanner is working like a charm! Hopefully this helps you out as well!
    Cheers!

Looks like some magic (i.e., simple full system restart) helped. After that ACPI looks normal. Some errors still are in dmesg, but seemingly not critical.

  • PowerMac DP G4 Won't Boot With All RAM Sticks Installed

A few weeks ago, my 800 MHz dual-processor G4 started having frequent kernel panics. I tried all sorts of things, including changing the PRAM battery, resetting the firmware, and resetting the PMU. Then, one day, it would only power up but not boot, so I took it in for repairs.
The shop I took it to determined that the logic board was malfunctioning and replaced it. The computer no longer has any kernel panics.
The machine was designed for three 500 MB RAM sticks, which is what it had ever since I bought it over five years ago. Now, apparently, it won't boot with the last one installed, though it will with two. The shop replaced the new logic board and and even swapped RAM, but the problem still persists. Neither the power supply nor the hard drive appear to be malfunctioning.
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on? Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    G4 800 MHz Dual Processor   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    squeakmaster, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried the following with one 512MB RAM stick:
    1. Palce it in the first RAM slot. Does the Mac boot?
    2. If so, remove the stick & place it in the second RAM slot. Does it boot?
    3. If so, remove the stick & place it in the third RAM slot. Does it boot?
The results of this test should reveal (1) if the stick boots in one or more RAM slots, the RAM is good and (2) if it fails to boot in a RAM slot, there is a problem with that slot.
Do this with each of the tree RAM sticks & post back the results.
When the logic board was replaced, was the firmware updated to be compliant with OS X. (Note - The firmware is installed on a chip on the logic board.) Check your Mac's firmware (Boot ROM version) version. Mac OS X: Available firmware updates
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117 If an update is required, the update must be installed (using OS 9) BEFORE you install OS X.
Can you boot up in OS 9.x? If so you can use DIMM First Aid - Check & recover disabled (missing) RAM from Apple's latest firmware updates http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/10415

  • Why won't Firefox 4 allow me to use my fingerprint scanner on my laptop?

I have an HP laptop with a built in fingerprint scanner. With previous versions of Firefox I was able to use that to log on to websites that require a username and password. However, I just downloaded Firefox 4 today and this new version will not allow me to use the fingerprint scanner. Can this be fixed?

    Hello Tdp86,
It sounds like you are having an intermittent issue where you are unable to access your movies, and you cannot play them at all. I want to recommend starting by signing out of the iTunes store in settings:
From the main Apple TV menu, choose Settings > iTunes Store.
From: How to rent a movie from the iTunes Store on Apple TV
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1498
    Then restart the Apple TV:
Restart your Apple TV by selecting Settings > General > Restart.
From: Apple TV: How to restart your Apple TV
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3180
Then test the issue again and see if it works correctly, and consistently.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • HP Probook 4540s: Fingerprint Scanner Not Working

    Hi,
Problem: Fingerprint Scanner - Windows log in does not give option to log in via fingerprint scanner.
Overview: After installing fingerprint drivers from the HP site and using the HP Protect Tools to successfully enroll fingerprint, I tried logging in via this method but the windows log in screen does not display this option. Device manager correctly identifies and shows the fingerprint sensor - however, the control panel says no biometric devices detected.
I really need help in sorting out this issue. Details of what steps I took trying to make the scanner work are given below.
    Specs:
    1) Probook 4540s
    2) Windows 7 64-bit
    3) i5-3210m, 1Gb Hd 7650m, 4 Gb 1333Mhz, 750Gb 5400rpm, VFS 491 Fingerprint scanner.
Details of the problem and steps I took to install drivers:
After a fresh installation of Windows 7, I went to the HP driver site to download the latest drivers for Probook 4540s:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5229457&...
I installed the drivers in roughly this order:
    1)realtek ethernet controller drivers,
    2)audio drivers,
    3) the chipset and USB 3.0 drivers (but not the Intel MEI driver)
    4) Intel video driver: faced an issue such that drivers were not being allowed to install. After disabling switchable graphics in the bios, I was able to get these drivers to install.
    5) AMD video drivers: installed after the intel HD graphics driver - installed but Catalyst Control Center was not being displayed. So I re-enabled switchable graphics in BIOS, re-installed these drivers and CCC was now available.
    6) HP hotkey support
    7) HP universal camera driver
    8) Validity Fingerprint sensor
    9) Synaptics Touchpad driver
    10) Atheros wifi & bluetooth
    11) Jmicron card reader
After driver installation, I installed the HP Protect Tools. After prompting for a PC reboot - which I did - it asked for setup of security etc.. Part of this pocess was the enrolling of my fingerprints - successful. However, upon log off/ restart of windows, an option to log in with the fingerprint scanner did not appear in the Windows log in screen.
I opened the Control Panel, and found there was no biometric devices tab, even though device manager showed biometric device and validity sensor (VFS 491). I then proceeded to uninstall HP protect tools and the validity driver for the fingerprint sensor, then made sure these services were running:
    -Credential Manager
    -Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    -DCOM Server Process Launcher
    -RPC Endpoint Mapper
    -Windows Biometric Service
    -Plug and Play
Then as suggested in another forum post, I first installed this :http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55109.exe and then the validity drivers from 4540s drivers page, and then HP Protect Tools.
After reboot HP Protect Tools as before would enroll my fingerprints, but again no prompt at windows login came to log in with fingerprint. However, one change after the installtion of http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55109.exe was that in control panel there is now a tab for biometric devices; however, it says that windows did not find any biometric devices installed. An image is attached showing both the device manager and the control panel!
Please HP provide a solution. Thanks!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Ok problem solved. I dont know whether it is related to the installation of HP windows 7 Essential System Updates and Intel MEI driver or not - but I did install these.
What really worked without doubt was this - > install both the fingerprint drivers and then the HP Protect Tools. Once rebooted, open HP Protect tools, then go to administration in the bottom right corner -> Administrative Console ->Increase System security -> tick windows login security and your done. Now you will be able to log in via enrolled fingerprints.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 Fingerprint Scanner has stopped working

Ok, I have been trying to troubleshoot this problem for hours with no avail. I have looked up basically every suggestion out there for fixing the issue and none have worked.
I can no longer use my fingerprint scanner to log into my laptop like I used to before. When I swipe my finger across the scanner, it doesn't even light up, and the computer regiesters nothing. I thought this was maybe because I had unintentionally uninstalled some of the related software, but I wasn't sure what.
I uninstalled and reinstalled both HP SimplePass 2012, and the Validity Fingerprint Sensor driver from this url: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=ob-82046-1
My computer told me that the Validity reinstallation was successful, and I have rebooted my computer. I have even tried a hard reset. However, when I go into Control Panel > Handware and Sound > Biometric Devices, I see Validity Sensors Inc. appear in the list, but it is always listed as "Unavailable." If I go Control Panel > Hardware and Sound and click on "Use your fingerprint with Windows" under Biometric Devices, I get a message saying
"There are no fingerprint readers available at this time
There are no fingerprint readers attached to this computer, or all the fingerprint readers are being used by other programs"
Trying to go through HP SimplePass 2012 was thoroughly unhelpful, I found no menus or information related to fingerprint scanning or using fingerprints to log into Windows or anything.
I have even went into Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Services > Credentials Manager> restart, to restart the Biometrics stuff as well. Nothing.
So, I'm kind of at the end of my wits with this, and I've got nothing left in the playbook. Can anyone help me out? It would be very much appreciated!
P.S/EDIT: I'm running a 64 bit Windows 7 on my laptop, if that helps anyone.

Ok, I did a little more digging and I think I've figured out something.
It seems like what I uninstalled and reinstalled from my computer was HP SinglePass 2012.
What I need to be installing is HP SinglePass Identity Protection (2011?)
Because it seems like these are two completely different things. I was confused as to why screenshots of HP SinglePass Identity Protection didn't look anything like my SinglePass software.
Is this correct? Are these two programs different, and do I need the Identity Protection software? I'd like to believe HP DIDN'T create two different programs with the exact same name just to confuse me -_-
Anyway, going to be trying this later today.

Ask on the PS forum. Yes, it has in part to do with 32bit vs. 64bit, but just as much as your vendor's driver compatibility on a more generic level.
