Rescue and Recovery 4.5 Incremental backup reverts to LOCAL when i have 2nd hard drive

I have 2 hard drives.
Installed R & R 4.50.
Set 2nd hard drive as Store Location.
Initial "scheduled" full back up goes to my D drive. (This does NOT use the windows task scheduler).
During next Incremental  backup (set by the back up at this time setting), it reverts back to local drive,
and does another FULL backup to my C drive  folder RRbackups.
Problem is windows Task Scheduler is NOT set, under TVT folder  task, to backup up to 2nd hard drive.
I edited Task Scheduler to change folder TVT, task launchRnR, actions  from:
start a program %R%/rrcmd.exe BACKUP location=L name=Scheduled   scheduled
to:
start a program %R%/rrcmd.exe BACKUP location=S name=Scheduled   scheduled
otherwise, all works fine. Such a Major bug. Anyone else having this problem?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I recently Reinstalled R and R 4.50. Same bug as i noted.  The entry in the  windows task scheduler is INCORRECT.
For those backing up to a 2nd hard drive, use my Solution.  The initial BASE backup will go to the correct
backup location.  Subsequent Incrementals use the Task scheduler to kick off the backup .. I do not know what
the parmeter is to point to a USB drive.  Location = S is the correct parmeter to back up to a 2nd hard drive.
Control Panel>Administrative tools>task scheduler>tvt folder
Entry "LaunchRnR" select this entry.  Right click this entry. Properties.  Choose the Actions tab. Then EDIT.
You will see ADD arguments(optional);  entry block will contain
BACKUP location=L name=Scheduled scheduled
Change location=L to location=S.  Click OK.  Next run should go to 2nd hard drive. Major Flaw!
===
During Initial 1st time run of R&R, it will ask. you have NOT taken a backup, back up now?  Reply NO.
If you reply YES, it will go to your C drive, since you have not changed your backup location.
If you replied YES, you have a base backup on your C drive.  If this happens, Delete the base back up.
Go to set schedule parm, choose time and day, and location 2nd drive.  It will then ask do you want to back up.
Reply YES, IT will go to the 2nd hard drive.  THEN the bug shows up when incrementals start.
Change windows task scheduler as noted above.

  • Rescue and Recovery - How do I restore data to another comptr since my laptop hard drive crashed???

My T60P 8744-C9U hard drive died.  Test: BIOS encounters read errors when doing a  test - WinXP boot cd cannot find C drive.
But fortunately I did frequent backups to a USB external drive .... hum.....
So - HOW DO I RESTORE THE DATA FROM THE USB EXTERNAL DRIVE THAT WAS CREATED WITH R&R onto my other computer so I can work - a desktop - Quad XP 64 - not a Lenovo product !!!

You're not going to be able to do a complete restoration onto a totally different computer, but you should be able to connect your external drive to the desktop and retrieve specific files and folders.
The only way to do a complete restoration is to get a new drive for the T60, download R&R and restore from the backup, unless you burned recovery discs, then you could restore from those and then use the backup.

  • Rescue and Recovery Crashes While Deleting Backup Files

I've seen many threads in regards to Rescue and Recovery crashing while deleting backup files, but no solutions were ever mentioned!  I have a T400 (Vista SP2, Intel T9400, 4GB RAM, 300 GB HD) and was quickly running out of disk space.  After finding mention of Rescue and Recovery I was able to delete some of the backups but not all.  For example I have one from 2008 (18GB) but it won't seem to delete.  I let it sit for quite a while (over night) but it still didn't delete.  Does anybody have a solution for how to get R&R to delete this files?  Or how to delete these files manually?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
in this situation I assume, you are using the GUI for the deletiong of the RnR Backups.
What I always prefer is the rrcmd.exe which you can use with the "delete" whicht so that the backups that you want to will be deleted.
    Cheers

My old computer has broken and I had not backed up my Itunes. I now have the hard drive from my old computer (windows 7) but cannot transfer the music. How can I transfer the music from my old hard drive to the new laptop (windows 8)?

Copy the entire iTunes folder from \Users\<User>\Music on the old drive into your music folder on the new computer.
Or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

    Hi Le Etta,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Take a look at the article below, it provides details and instructions for multiple ways of moving the music from an old computer to a new one.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
    Method
    Considerations
    Home Sharing
The easiest option, as long as your new computer is already connected to the Internet.
    External drive
Requires additional hardware but backs up your iTunes library.
    Transferring purchases
Fastest, but only moves the content you purchased from the iTunes Store. Also requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod with the content on it.
    Windows Migration Assistant
Works best for migrating from an old PC to a new Mac, and transfers more than iTunes.

  • Rescue and Recovery + uncheck Schedule your backups

    Hello All,
I wanted to uncheck "Schedule your backups" option of RnR 4.31 via registry. I tried adding registry keys like Mode=0 in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Lenovo\Scheduler\Tasks\Rescue and Recovery" but it just greys out the option. but backup popup keeps coming as the "Schedule your backups" option is checked, even though it is greyed out.
any suggestions is highly appreciated. awaiting a quick reply.
    Regards
    Arun Kumar Kannan

I don't know in which order you are trying to delete backups, but AFAIK you need to delete the last one first as they are cumulative backups.

  • Rescue and Recovery tries to auto backup even when schedule backup is disabled

I have a Thinkpad T61 7662CTO with Vista Business (no SP) and Thinkvantage RR 4.2 with all the latest Lenovo and Windows updates installed.
My Goal is to NOT have RR automatically backup but for me to do so manually. However I can't get it to do this.
I tried the settings: I go RR app, click "Change schedule...", and under Schedule I have Frequency set to Never. However, my system has continiously continued to attempt a backup over and over every time it boots.
Can someone tell me how to fix this problem? Why does RR ignore its own settings?

  • I'm switching from pc to Mac, is there a way to transfer all my music and photos from my pc to Mac book pro, I also have a hard drive will it open files from my pc

Can I transfer music photos from my old pc to my new Mac, plus I have a hard drive that is Mac compatible but all the stuff is from my pc will it transfer

Yes, the Mac can read NTFS drives, but not write to them.
If you have the drive formatted FAT or exFAt then the Mac can read and write to it. But before formatting, remove the data as it's erased, and format it on the PC as it's easier. Right click on Windows and Format.
    Drives, partitions, formatting w/Mac's + PC's
Moving your personal data via the external drive is likley the best option, there are other methods like Migration, but they are problematic and take a long time, a drive is simple, fast and direct.

  • Rescue and Recovery won't recognize backup files.

I have backup files on a usb drive, an ultrabay drive and the main hard drive and it won't recognize any of them. Anyone else have this problem?
    -M

    manusoft, welcome to the forum,
attach the usb drive and then check it's recognised in BIOS. While you're in BIOS ensure that you optical drive is set as first boot device and place the boot disc you created in the optical drive. Save your settings and restart.
The system will boot to the R&R on the disc and in theory you should be able to then install the image.
Consideration; on the systems you move this image to the service partions will probably be no longer functional. I say probably as I've never done this with W7.
    Hope this helps

  • Rescue and Recovery doesn't find backups

Had a Thinkpad repaired under warranty, and got it back with a factory install.
I had backed up the entire disk with R&R to a portable USB drive, but now R&R doesn't list any backups, neither when run in Windows, nor when booting from the USB drive.
The amount of used space on the USB drive corresponds to the expected size of the backup, but I can't access the protected RRBackups folder to check what's there.
Worst case, I have an online backup with important data, but if it's possible to get R&R to work, that would save me a lot of time. Anyone else run into a similar problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The problem might be caused by the fact some other (unexpected by R&R) installation of Windows is on the internal HDD now.
Boot to the portable USB drive, then start R&R in advanced mode.  When you go through the restore process, there should be a checkbox about "show all backups" (or something similar), and this should show you the backups on your USB drive.

  • Rescue and Recovery - problem with sceduled backups

    hello,
I use XP on a T61, with all latest updates...
It seems R&R does not complete sceduled backups or does not list the generated backup.
today (sceduled every 1st of month) it started and works, may be 1 hour, but no new entry in the list of backups was generated ? during run no messages were displayed except because of some files which were not able to save by r&r.
It seems, same problem was on 1 of january - no backup or/and no entry in list.
So I started another backup manually. this was ok and a now an new entry is in the list.
Does anybody have an idea ?
Could it be a problem with Norton Antivirus Protection ?
    thank you for any help!
    Hans

sorry i forget to mention that i an using  thinkpad T400.

  • How to restore backed up files after I used Rescue and Recovery

    Hi there lenovo community,
so I'm struggling to find a solution on how to open these files right here:
    Link to image
First of all, the program I used to back up my hard drive was the Rescue and Recovery that my lenovo desktop came with. I used an external hard drive (WD My Passport, specifically) to back up my old hard drive. The problem that I'm facing right now is how I can open these files, they seem to be not working with any of the option programs the "open with" thingy offers me. If anyone knows  an easy solution for this please please respond to me immediately.. I would really really appreciate it.  I have important documents there.
    Thanks,
    Enrico

  • Rescue and Recovery - how can I move backups to another location

I would like to move ma backups from an external drive to other drive. I don't want to make a new full backup but I want to have access to all the previous backups but I just want to use some other external drive. I can't find an option in the Rescue and Recovery Software. Can I just copy  the files to the new drive? I am afraid that there would be an error when I try to recover from the backup if I just copy them. Anyone ever tried to copy the backups and then recover from it?

I believe you should not have a problem.  The \RRbackups is a "flat" file, geometry not a factor. If the backup external went from basic, to EFI, that might present problems.
What RNR version are you running?  Version  5.1 stores more device info/attributes on 2nd HDD, and multiple partitions on the C drive.
    Changes in this release:
    [New functions or enhancements]
    - Added an Active Directory Manager (ADM) setting to set the Create Rescue Media (CRM) function to external media.
    - Added support for the unattended backup when you log off the system.
    - Added support for the compatibility with the backup on any other computer that is in the same model with your computer if both computers are installed with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.
    - It enables you to designate the hard disk drive where the Rescue and Recovery program stores the backup and designate the hard disk drive that you attempt to restore.Added support on the computer that is installed with more than one hard disk drive.
     ==
I dont think this is a issue with you.  It seems the comments support multiple HDD like 3 on a system, choose HDD 1, 2 or 3.   RNR 5.1 does add more registry entries to registry for  all HDD's avaliable. And maybe C drive, partition 1. D drive partition 2, on the same physical.  I want to backup C to partition 2.  I can't confirm this.
Added support on the computer that is installed with more than one hard disk drive. <release notes.  Boring, it has support 2nd hdd for years.
    ==
    (1) What size is your \RRbackups to external old?  5 backups, 32?
    (2) copy external old to new. The registry entries SHOULD not know  any difference. You got 5 backups on external.
    (3) Try a single file restore.
    (4) Take a incremental backup to new external.
    (5) 10 minutes later, try a FULL restore from item 4.
You might be the 1st user to ever do this, and it should work. I would take 1 last final backup to old external to be on the safe side of things.

  • Rescue and Recovery: No backups available for "local hard drive" with Full Restore

I can see all my backups in "view all backups" and can restore individual files, although when I select the option for "full restore", it reboots my PC and brings up the Rescue and Recovery interface which gives me the option for "full restore".  When I select "full restore", it asks me to select the source.
As my backups are stored on my local hard drive, I select that source, however the scroll box is empty (no backups available for selection).
Can anyone recommend a solution to fix this problem, or should I remove and re-install Rescue and Recovery, then create new backups (and hope they appear in the list for full restore)?
I am running Rescue and Recovery 4.21.0016.00 on a Lenovo T61p with XP SP3.
    Thanks.

    Also, I have RnR 4.00.0117.00.
Where do I find and how do I delete these massive files?

Currently running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a W510.  Rescue and Recovery cannot find my backups on the USB drive when trying to restore.  They can be seen when not in restore mode.  There are two partitions on the USB drive.  The second contains the backups.  I also tried plugging the drive into a server to access it as a network drive with the same result.  R&R version 4.30.0025.00.  I do not believe it has changed since I started the backups.
