Hello ConiKost, about this issue, you though I can not solve - but to offer some advice: In the current version of RnR there seems to be a bug that blocks the backup as soon as you personal data into the corresponding folders (music, documents, places) . That means even if you have it installed, it is not functional. Postings on this subject already exist. My RnR yesterday I uninstalled again ... Have you ever seen you since the Win7 integrated backup solution? This is no longer compare with "ntbackup" too! :-) You can create system images - individually as well as protect your data. Try this way, I also found a long-suffering RnR - user :-) See you there just in time. Before a patch RnR is not usable at the moment anyway. Hope this cheers you up a little! :-) Regards

  • Rescue and Recovery (4.2) Won't Run

I've a ThinkPad R61 with Vista Business SP1. I've patched the system with all patches from Windows and System Update (including the patch for RnR for Vista SP1).  Despite this, I still can't get RnR to work in Windows. It's incredibly frustrating!
I've also found others having the same problem: http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=N_Series_Lenovo_3000&message.id=3240&query.id=30...
I've been doing a lot of research and I'm getting absolutely nowhere! I've already tried reinstalling RnR and I've also downloaded from System Update and from Lenovo's website! No luck!!
It does appear to be something to do with Vista SP1 specifically (despite Lenovo having released a patch for it).
I took a look in the RnR logs and found this line:
Fri Jul 04 00:36:48 2008 RescueRecovery: GUI Startup: Service not found.
If anyone has a solution please let it be known!!
    Alan.

Discovered some additional information. Since the previous "fix", the space on my laptop's hard drive was slowly filling up... to the point where there was less than 200 MB left... then suddenly there would be 1 GB of space... 150 MB... back and forth.
When I uninstalled/reininstalled/uninstalled Rescue and Recovery (R&R) 4.2... I found afterwards that over 35 GB of space had "freed-up". I think what happened is that R&R 3.1 was constantly creating more "backups" and/or "partial failed backups" that were cluttering up my hard drive. When I uninstalled R&R 4.2 the second time, these backups were deleted.
If there is a program that can "wipe" any lingering remnants of the R&R program so I can do a clean install of R&R 4.2, the information would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks again!
    Sincerely, ThinkPadMan

I'm some trouble with rescuen and recovery, afer install the operating system Windows 7 Prof. 32 bit trough Microsoft MDT 2010, ( similar to clean install). I try to install Rescuen and recovery ver 4.3 and receive and error that say " This System is not supported ". What happens???.

    Wait some answer.

    hey filmancco,
could you do an install of the OS without that Microsoft MDT 2010? I do hope you made the recovery media for this.
I'm suspecting that the MDT is causing you not to be able to install the R&R 4.3 software.

  • LR4.1 64bit update won't install on Win 7 system

CAN'T install Lightroom 4.1 update on 64-bit Win7 system. I had absolute no difficulty installing LR 4.0 when it first came out - using the exact same locations / methods as I am trying (repeatedly) to install LR 4.1.
I have tried various ways to install the Windows (Win 7 64bit) Lightroom 4.1 64-bit update and failed each time.
I try to keep as little as possible on my C drive, so all of my programs are on my G: drive. When the installer asks where to unpack/install from, I specify G:/0temp.
I then follow the Install instructions and get a message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." In the window at the bottom of the message is: Use source: C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Temp\(8D1593A4...). I'm directed to try again or enter an alternate path.
I do a search and find it in a different temp folder C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Temp\(something different...) and I direct the installer to that folder, but the install fails. When I close the install, the .msi file is removed, so cannot be run directly.
    Help!
    Jim

I have a similar issue.  Running 4.0 - trying to instal 64bit 4.1. This installer *looks* to *maybe* have a hardcoded name for the TEMP directory - yet creates a randomly-generated name when expanding the files.  That may or may not be true, but based on what Adobe is paying ME ($0), I will leave tracking things down to Adobe.
    So - Win 7 64 Pro.  I run installer....
Unpacks to desktop, all works fine until it goes looking for the .msi file.
In temp during install it created this folder (different each time): {A70C3E1B-0B25-427C-94D8-65A581BE92C5}, or {96DD485B-D788-4156-9669-A0BFF8CFEB00}, or whatever it randomly generates.
    When it looks for the MSI - EVERYTIME on install it instead looks for (the same each time I run the installer): {50336421-E773-46E6-9029-155F4AF6E479}
Even renaming/creating a folder of that name with all of the created files in it - including the msi - does not fix the issue.  I used browse and found the msi - then got errors saying it wasn't valid.  Did this 5 times - so REALLY unhappy.  No virus software running... so please dont even suggest that. When you find msi and say OK - you do not pass "go".  Instead - you get these:
Big ups if that error message is from you Adobe.  "Contact your technical support group."  Very rich indeed.
So - the short form - Bad installer (probably) in that it seems to be doing a number of things and failing:
Looking for MSI  - but not in the folder its creating it in
Even when correct MSI is found (time stamped during install) - it declares the file no good
Failing when exiting (to remove whatever has already been installed).

  • Problem in audio driver and unable to install rescue and recovery ver 4.3 -

    Dear community collegues,
I have installed original windows7 home premium in my lenovo N100 series 0768-54A model y'day. Though every thing went well, the AC97 audio driver could not be installed. Can any one provide me a solution to make the audio working in Windows7 Home Premium.
Similarly after new installation, I could not install rescue and recovery version 4.3 (windows7 compatible) in to the system, every attempt failed. Could any one provide a solution.
    thanking You.
    Sakthivelu V M Chennai

I am not sure which audio chipset your N100 has, so
    Try this for sound:
    Go to THIS web page.
Download Soundmax audio driver for Vista.
Extract the files by double clicking, and note where they
    are being extracted to.
Uninstall any sound driver you have installed, reboot.
If windows says New Hardware Found, click cancel.
Go to folder where downloaded drivers were extracted,
    and run Setup.
If Soudmax drivers do not work, uninstall and repeat
    with the Realtek audio drivers.
I do not think Rescue/Recovery will work except for
    the originally installed OS.

  • Unable to install Rescue and Recovery 4.50

    Hi all,
I bought x220 tablet here in Germany, so I received windows 7 professional in German language.
I wanted to use English version of windows so I installed English version of windows hence lost all lenovo default settings. Now I am trying to install rescue and recovery 4.50 and it is not working with the msg " make sure that .tvt data is in correct installation pack folder" I translated this msg from German to Englich
Before installing Rescue and Recovery 4.50 I also installed
    Microsoft Visual c++ 2005 SP1 Redisributable Package (x64)    and
Sysprepbackup Acessory Package  which was mentioned in Lenovo support.
If someone has already solved such problem, I would be glad to know the answer.
    Thanks and regards,
    Bhargav Potdar

It seems like R&R is missing the necessary language file(s), so I recommend downloading and installing the package that includes support for all languages:  http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkvantage_en/z936_setup_rnr450_025c.exe
Even on English version of Windows, if you are using German language support like you are, R&R will need the German language installation files.

A possible cause may be that your system's Vital Product Data is not setup correctly. The applications you mention read your system's Vital Product Data to ensure that you are using a Lenovo computer before they will allow installation.
Is it possible that you've had the system board replaced? The Vital Product Data is often left incomplete after system board replacements.
You should be able to reset your Vital Product Data using the Flash BIOS update for your system. You will need to re-enter your system's machine type, model, and serial number.

  • Ideas to improve the Rescue and Recovery System

    Hi,
some weeks ago I ned to restore my system, while this process there was some difficulties with the Rescue and Recovery. But First my configuration:
I'm using a T61p with Windows Vista Ultimate installed.
On the System there are 5 Partitions
    1. Rescue and Recovery
    2. Windows Bootstrap
    3. BitLocker Encrypted Windows Partition
    4. Linux /boot
    5. Encrypted Linux LVM
So, one morning I tried to start my ThinkPad and nothing worked anymore. After a Short time I found out that the boot sector of the windows bootstrap partition was corrupted. The Linux Partition worked fine and was startable with a GRUB CD-Rom.
Ich checked out the Rescue and Recovery system and was sad that I isn't possible to recover the boot sector of the bootstrap partition. The only way to rescue my system was to reinstall windows at all!
Thats a bad solution, because you can recover the boot sector with every OEM-DVD of Windows Vista, but this DVD is not available for a ThinkPad user.
So I backuped my files and reinstalled the system. While the reinstallation process rescue and recovery gives the option to install windows on C:. But on such a multiboot configuration it is not very clear what drive C: is. After some experiment I think he is taking the first parition after Rescue and Recovery or the first free space after it. At this place it would be much better if I can choose a parition for the installation.
So, if a Lenovo engineer is reading this, please think about to:
    - Include some tools like boot sector recovering in the Rescue and  Recovery system
    - Adding a mode where you can choose the parition to install Windows.
Over and above that I'm really happy with my ThinkPad.
    Thanks for reading.

    Greetings,
This isn't so much a reply to Cobelius, or a solution, but a commiseration of sorts.  Or at least an "I hear ya, buddy, I wish they'd improve some things about Rescue and Recovery, too."
I notice that no one else has replied to this thread.  I hope at least that someone will read these posts, and pass 'em on to the appropriate developers.
    Here's my story:
I am, overall, extremely happy with my brand, spanking new T500.  So far, I'm only running a single OS, Vista Business 64.
However, I did make the following 'tweaks' to my setup, which brings out the flaws in the Rescue and Recovery software:
    1) I used Truecrypt 6.1a to encrypt my system partition (leaving the original rescue partition intact)
(Side Note:  Where my original drive C came with tons of empty space, I used DISKPART to shrink it a bit an created another primary partition as drive D.  Hey, why the heck not?  Originally, I wanted TrueCrypt to encrypt the entire drive, but this failed.  Truecrypt said this was due to a hardware failure, but 20 hours of my life wasted scanning the drive with HDD Regenerator 1.51 revealed no bad sectors.  So now Drive D is encrypted as an ordinary TrueCrypt container and mounted upon login. I'm okay with this solution,  but if anyone wants to research why TrueCrypt couldn't do the whole disk, you have my thanks in advance.)
    2) I bought a Maxtor BlackArmor(tm) hardware-encrypted USB external drive to use for my backups.  I successfully used the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery tool to both create specific file backups as well as to image my entire drive C onto the BlackArmor device, once I mounted it (by running a built-in executable and supplying it with my secret password)
    3) I set a Lenovo BIOS password for unlocking the boot hard drive.
So far, so good.  I type the BIOS drive password, then theTrueCrypt password, and Vista takes over 12 minutes to become usable and, well, that's a Microsoft issue, isn't it?
But, here's the deal: WHAT IF I CAN'T BOOT FROM THE HARD DRIVE ANYMORE?  Well, TrueCrypt made me create a bootable rescue CD which can restore my encrypted boot sector or permanently decrypt my hard drive.  What it can also do is let me press the ESC key to boot without providing a password, which does a supposedly wonderful thing -- since it fails to boot my drive C, it takes me straight into the Lenovo Rescue And Recovery session.
The problem is, the Lenovo boot (version 4) takes me AUTOMATICALLY into a self-repair utility which wastes another 10 minutes of my time to finally tell me --d'uh-- that my boot sector is 'corrupted'  (it isn't; it's merely ENCRYPTED by TrueCrypt.  As it should be).
FLAW NUMBER 1:  Rescue and Recovery should provide a default menu where automatic diagnosis is a CHOICE the user can elect not to make, or abort if it has begun.
FLAW NUMBER 2: You guys should enhance what appears to be a Vista PE environment (or BartPE, or whatever) with a few utilities, including an Explorer-like browser to examine the disk (which would snow nothing in my case, as my drives are encrypted),  and a command prompt, and the ability to launch executables.  The environment should also recognize USB drives.
As it happens,  I used a third-party Vista PE rescue CD, Active@ Partition Recovery, to boot an environment having the utilities I needed.  Using this tool, I was able to recognize a USB key that had TrueCrypt installed in 'traveller' mode (no windows registry keys needed).  Running this app and providing my truecrypt password enabled me to unlock my Drive C, albeit by mounting it as another drive letter.  This made it possible to read and write to my disk.
The encrypted Maxtor drive is visible, too, from this boot environment,  but it appears as a CD-ROM drive, and yields no secrets until you run an executable file on it and enter the drive's password. And that worked, too.  So I could find files to copy over to my hard drive, if I needed to.
However, in order to RESTORE files to my drive, I'd still need to be able to run Rescue and Recovery, or at least the Recovery portion.  Which  brings me to:
FUNDAMENTAL FLAW NUMBER 3:  You need to create a Recovery tool that can run from within an external USB drive, without requiring shared .DLLs in various subfolders or windows registry entries.  Lord knows, I certainly tried to copy  RestoreNow.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\Rescue and Recovery onto my Maxtor drive, along with whatever DLLs it called for, but it was hopeless.  The damned thing just wouldn't run from the USB drive on the PE environment.
The way I see it, then, is that there really is no way to restore my hard drive should I suffer a catastrophic failure.  Major bummer.
FUNDAMENTAL FLAW NUMBER 4: When I got my laptop, I created a series of recovery disks using the Lenovo supplied software. Booting with the first CD, however, only proved depressing, as I had to agree that the ONLY purpose for this CD was to recover my PC to factory-shipped condition.  Which meant erasing my drive and restoring it with the contents of the other DVDs.  But I want to restore what I backed up with Rescue and Recovery!  My life SINCE the laptop shipped from the factory!   Geez, Louise, why not let me choose to do THAT, too?
(Of course, the boot CD would need to allow me to execute the Maxtor program that unlocks my encrypted USB drive, and also let me execute TrueCrypt to unlock my hard drive.)
I sure hope someone forwards this to a developer who'll take it seriously, after s/he stops chuckling.  You guys should just ship a usable Vista PE rescue CD with every laptop, I think.  And a recovery-only tool that doesn't need DLLs or Registry Entries to run. It would help in so many ways.
In the meantime, I guess I'd better do all I can to ensure my laptop's hard drive doesn't die on me.
Again, other than for this teeny problem that "don't amount to a hill o' beans in this crazy world," I'm really happy with my T500.
Thanks for reading this, too.  And happy holidays.

  • Rescue and Recovery with only one partition, what will happen? Thanks!

Hello, everyone! This is my question: If I do a clean installing of Windows 7 with only one partition(the C and I install the Rescue and Recovery tool, when I make a backup of the system by using the Rescue and Recovery then the backup file will be stored in the partition C:. So when I restore the system with the backup file later, if I can succeed and what will happen? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Backups and restores will still work.  The risk is if something happens to your hard drive, then you would lose the backups as well.  For this reason it's a much better idea to store your backups somewhere else, such as USB hard drive or network.

  • Rescue and Recovery 4.3 on Windows 7 64 bit won't install

    Hi,
I had to reinstall my Windows 7 and when I did that I accidentally wiped away the Recovery partition. I didn't think this would be a problem but now I am trying to install Rescue and Recovery 4.3 on Windows 7 64 bit and I keep getting this error
"Error 25014. There was an error installing the Rescue and Recovery boot manager. Return code: 6"
I am wondering why I am getting this error and how I can install Rescue and Recovery 4.3?

    Hi,
can you also specify, how did you installed Win7?
    Using Recovery CDs? or?
Note, that RnR needs to modify the boot loder of Windows and if the access is blocked, due to permissions, then this situation of course will happen.
However, there is also a second option, on how to get RnR installed and this is using a command line installation which will NOT install the RnR partition.
NOTE: the change in the boot loder is needed only for the creation of this RnR partition.
For more info, please read the following RnR manual:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkvantage_en/rnr43dg.pdf
Feel free to ask any other question.

  • How to install Rescue and Recovery CD to my T42

I ordered Rescue and Recovery CD to install my T42, and I got 8 CDs, one is independant, and other 7 CDs are for T42, so I just wonder how do install it, I mean use which CD, or which is used firstly, anyway, could someone tell me step-by-step to rescue my laptop.
    Thanks a bunch.

Well, you should wipe the entire drive before using the recovery disks, including the original recovery partition if it's corrupted.
The disks will create a new recovery partition.

  • Can't install Rescue and Recovery on T410

Hi, I recently bought a reconditioned Lenovo T410 and have pretty limited technical knowledge, so I took the helpful advice of another member on the forum to perform certain actions to get myself set up. One of these was to create factory recovery discs using Rescue and Recovery. As this wasn't already installed on the machine, I have downloaded it (tvtvrnr4.52_005en.exe) but it won't install. I am getting the message 'Error 25014 There was an error installing the Rescue and Recovery boot manager. Return code: 6'. Any ideas about how to resolve it or an alternative way or creating recovery discs?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The only chance to perform factory recovery is if you have Lenovo_Recovery partition with several .wim files on that. But it seems they are absent. So contact with Lenovo support in your country and purchase recovery disks.

  • Problem with Rescue and Recovery after installing Norton Internet Security 2010

    Hi all.
It's my first time in this forum.
I have a problem, with Rescue and Recovery, after installing Norton Internet Security 2010 on my T43.
    The message I get it:
"Rescue and Recovery is unable to back up the file 'C:\Documents and settings\all Users\Application Data\ Norton\ 00000082\00000109\000003c1\cltMLS1.bat' Because the file is either corrupted or being used by another application. Please close any application that could be using the file.
I tried to close the Norton but I couldn't find how.
    Tanks
    Doron71

Hi and welcome to the forum,
the reason for this situation is, that the antivir files are protected from being modified.
This is the reason, why this file cannot be backed up. I assume, that you would get much more such messages, as there are surelly multiple files files, that are protected like this.
So the solution is to block folders from being archived. Please start RnR application and in the configuration set this folder as the excluded one.
This will skip the backup of this file and will fix your situation.
Please let me know, if you have covered this.
    Cheers
