Rescue and Recovery Drive letters - error message

Trying to run Rescue and recovery after partitioning my hard drive results in the following error message:
"The last backup of this system included the following drive letters:
C:
Your system is currently backing up the following drive letters:
C:
E:
Please set the letters as they were previously and retry the backup. You may need to exclude partitions created since the last backup"
NOw I have changed the options to exclude E: but I was wondering is there any way to include it in backups - would I have to back up to a USB hard drive without any previous backups on it? And is it a good idea to use R&R to backup partitions?
Any advice much appreciated!

Sorted - needed a formatted backup USB disk and that worked fine.

  • Cannot install Rescue and Recovery 4.21: Error 25011 no matter what.

    T41.
I had an issue with my Thinkpad, and considered reinstalling WinXP.  I discovered I never made RnR recovery disks.  In fact, I don't have RnR installed.
    Nor can I install it.
I get the 25011 "can't find TVT file" error.  I've tried three different installers, two "complete language package" versions, and one English-only version.  In all three cases, the installer reports that it can't find a tvt file (but of course it doesn't tell me which one it can't find.).
    The versions I've tried are:

    Hi Mark,
Good idea!  No luck though, although my R&R partition is still healthy and boots nicely.  I'm wondering if the solution wasn't actually the removal of your second hard drive.  Other threads discuss how getting rid of network shares helped similar problems, as R&R wanted to use drive letters that were already taken by network drives.  Me, I've got an "F:" that's my swap partition and a "G:" that's my fat32 partition.  If the R&R upgrade program is hardcoded to mount the hidden partition as "F:" (for example), rather than trying to dynamically grab the first available drive letter, I could understand what was going on.
I'd unmount my F and G partitions if I knew how to do so in windows, but don't know of an nondestructive way to do this.
With a specific idea like this my normal (linux) next step would be to go read the source and find out if that really is the problem.  Can't do that in this case unfortunately, but if a Lenovite happens to be reading this forum and can direct me to the proper place to submit a real bug report, I'll do so.  Can only find service call info on the website, which doesn't help to submit a bug.

Hello ConiKost, about this issue, you though I can not solve - but to offer some advice: In the current version of RnR there seems to be a bug that blocks the backup as soon as you personal data into the corresponding folders (music, documents, places) . That means even if you have it installed, it is not functional. Postings on this subject already exist. My RnR yesterday I uninstalled again ... Have you ever seen you since the Win7 integrated backup solution? This is no longer compare with "ntbackup" too! :-) You can create system images - individually as well as protect your data. Try this way, I also found a long-suffering RnR - user :-) See you there just in time. Before a patch RnR is not usable at the moment anyway. Hope this cheers you up a little! :-) Regards
moderator note: this forum is in English only, Please write in Englsh.

  • Rescue and Recovery error message

    Hello everyone,
I hope someone can assist me.
I have a 3000 J series desk top computer that has a error message that comes up several times a day. It says Rescue and Recovery has failed and I need to click the site to upgrade Rescue and Recovery. I click it and the Lenovo web page comes up to the download page. I try to down load it and I get the error message " tvtiargot has stopped working. Do we need the Rescue and recovery or is this just a junk file that Lenovo puts on the computer?
Also how many memory ports are there in a 3000 j desk top? is there a way to find out without taking the cover off?

Lenovo J series has 2usb ports in the front and 2 in the back...If you need to use more a hub can be attached to one of the back usbports.  Keep in mind one of the 2 ports in the back is used by the keyboard.   Rescue and Recovery is notorious for not working properly in lenovo 3000J and thinkpad series.  Some become corrupted and refuse to start..some are controled by Client Security..and sometimes will not open with the password or asks for one when you never created one.   Beware...you delete Rescue and Recovery  and you have a crash..you are toast ...The recovery disk that you make operates on the rescue and recovery format.   It can be replaced by acronis..avail at staples..and more reliable ..but becareful about deleting the Rescue and Recovery program  especially if you have enabled the client security...it is connected to the security chip in the bios..You many have to deactivate the chip first in the bios ..so you don;t get shut out of your computer....Addtitonal advise ..do not play sony/bmg music cd's in your lenovo..they can deactivate your cd/dvd drive as they contain a stealth program that can damage your system.
Other problems ..Roxio can severely slow down your system..and is most always a bundle sold with lenovo..You have to increase your virtual memory to almost 3000mb to speed things up..Upgrade your system to 2gb is you haven't already done so.. there are two memory slots...one is already occupied by 512mb memory chip..buy 2   1gb chips and put them in the slot after removing the 512mb.   Open the cabinet...It is easy as changing a lightbulb.....good luck!

  • Blue Screen error message after using Rescue and Recovery.

Good morning - I unfortunately had to use the IBM Rescue and Recovery feature to restore my factory settings.  However, now my computer is giving me a blue screen error during the startup process.  Unfortunately it is not on the screen long enough for me to get too much information from it, but I have been able to get win22n51.sys as being some sort of error message.  If I start the computer in safe mode it will load without the error.  If I use the safe mode plus networking it gives the error.  So I'm assuming it has something to do with the network drivers?
I would appreciate any ideas you all have for resolving/further diagnosing this problem.
    Thank you!

    Hello,

  • Rescue and Recovery to clone to Crucial Msata SSD drive Not Working Error

I have a T520 andI did a complete backup through Rescue and Recovery I did the back up to DVD. I then checked all the DVDs They all have data and are almost full. The T520 came with a Toshiba 500 gig HD, I have added a Crucial Msata 128 GiG, The T520 is running windows 7, and I have loaded the programs I use, and almost no data. The DVDs from the complete back up are marked as follows:
    Final SP Backup
    Startup Disk
    1c
    2c
    3c
    4c
    Final Q
    Final C
All DVDs are full I Take out the Toshiba 500Gig put in my Crucial Msata Drive Boot with the Startup Disk select complete restore select from CD/DVD The T520 Asks for all the disks Some are only used for a few mnutes then after I put in final C It says it is going to reboot select drive after reboot and then I get the error screen:

    2. Choose your language settings
    3 Click Repair your computer
    File: \windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
The Selected Entry could not be loaded because the application os missing or corrupt.
When you receive a laptop from Lenovo they do not give you Windows 7 discs. So there is no way to do a srt. All I want to do is get the Msata drive to boot and run the os and all my loaded programs. This way it is faster and more efficient. Is there a simpler way. Please help I have only got about 40 hours into this mess. Thanks for any help from the experts.

I'm a bit confused about the process you are using and what you are trying to do.
    If I understand you,
you currently have a working 500gb hdd with the operating system, your programs and your data.
You want to move your operating system to the mSATA drive and have your computer boot from there.
you have made a set of recovery disks using the Lenovo program. This is intended to restore your system to its original state (no data or extra programs)
Here are a couple of options
You can create a "backup and recovery" set of DVD's using the Windows built in programs (click the 'Start' button, then type 'backup' into the search box at the bottom) that will back up all of your system (OS, programs, data, setting etc.)
Use a stand alone program like Acronis to create a clone of your current disk
    Thereafter
Remove your current 500gb drive from your machine
    Install the mSATA drive
Restore whatever image you want (the Lenovo recovery, the Windows restore or the Acronis [or whatever program you used] image)
Reinstall your 500gb hdd and rename that drive to a letter other than 'C'

  • Rescue and Recovery 4.5. Rescue media can't boot from FAT32 64GB flash drive.

T530 Windows 7. I did a full (base) backup to a 64GB USB flash drive formatted FAT32. R&R started by indicating “Rescue and Recovery Medium being created” and after a few hours finished the backup. When I click on ‘View all backups’ I can see the backup created. I then tested the flash drive to see if it’s bootable but the screen only shows rapidly moving white font gibberish over black background. I did the same as a test on a 8GB USB flash drive formatted NTFS (I had to stop the backup since 8GB was not enough space) but had no trouble booting from it. Both flash drives have the folders: boot, efi, Preboot, RRbackups, tvtos and files: bootmgr, bootmgr.efi, fcopy.ini. In other words, the only difference seems to be that it works with 8GB NTFS but not with 64GB FAT32. Is that the issue or just coincidence?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The readme file for RNR 4.5.1 states:
    Consideration 7
Unable to boot from a 64 GB USB memory key
When you create rescue media on a 64 GB USB memory key and then boot your computer from the memory
key, an error message is displayed, saying, ?¡ãError loading Operating System.?¡À
To solve the problem, change the 64 GB USB memory key to one with less storage capacity.
    ===
The question is.. is your Flash USB a memory key?
I would reformat  the 64GB to NTFS, then run the Create Rescue Media option onto it.  Then try to boot the USB.
There is another post out here stating on certain USB sticks, you have to PREFORMAT it,  using diskpart command, before using the Create Rescue Media option..

  • Error when installing Rescue and Recovery

    Hello,
    I own a 2 year old Thinkpad L430 running Win7 Pro 64bit.
I've been trying to install Rescue and Recovery because I want to reset my PC from the recovery partition, and as far as I understand the only way to do that is through RnR(?)
But whenever I go through the installer i get this error message:
    click me
which, in english, basically says that there was and error with the return code 6.
After googling around for a while i found out that the fact that I once had a Linux Distrinution installed alongside Windows may be the cause of aforementioned error, because Linux replaces the default Lenovo boot loader with it's own GRUB one. When i removed the Linux distribution I typed the following into the command line: bootrec.exe /fixmbr to return to the Windows boot loader.
Do anyone know if the Linux thing is in fact the cause of  the error?
Can I somehow restore the Lenovo boot loader or is there's some other way to install RnR and/or restore my PC?
    Any help is truly appreciated!
    thanks,
    Simon

A typical factory ship of machine from Lenovo: (yours may not look like this).
    Q (lenovo recovery)
contains Rescue and recovery standalone software.  This standalone software also  can call The factory recovery software, if the Factory software is still on the Q drive.   Lenovo modifies the BIOS to support launch of standalone RNR.
Regardless of RNR installed or not, on the windows platform, standalone SHOULD launch. There is always a standalone RNR  in the recovery partition.
    ==
    workaround:
    (1) order REcovery DVD from the support center. $50 us if not under warranty
    (2) find a bud with a Lenovo machine. Create Rescue media to a DVD.  Boot your machine with the DVD. If it finds the recovery partition intact, you can do a Factory reinstall. Rescue media is a standalone RNR, it will not rely on the boot structure on your C drive HDD>
    (3) Your main issue is RNR install died with RC=6. This shows up. Check the msi logs in
C/users/YOURID/appdata/local/temp. I have researched some of these.  It is confusion in the installer/ and the condition of the PDA/predesktop area (corrupted) . PDA is standalone rnr. Your PDA is probably just fine.
SO, which version of RNR did you try to install? Was it the USA english version or the NLS support version.
    Your cant mix and match.
You cant switch from the English only version to NLS. denmark version, it will rc=6. I personally think this is a bug..
Region lang, local lang etc also confuse RNR installer.
The rc=6 occurs way after the installer had a bug in it. Yes it is trying to modify the MBR/BCD. I dont think your linux stuff mucked it up.
    ==
    Simple solution:
Get a DVD of standalone RNR to perform the factory recovery.
-or- hit pff11 at boot time, and use RNR standalone for Factory recover<<< this shoud work. << my choice.

  • Rescue and Recovery error on recovery

I have a T61p running Vista Ultimate.  My hard drive failed and I am trying to recover from my files backed up with Rescue and Recovery.  I have a clean new hard drive so I have to boot from the backup drive holding the rescue information.  The recovery starts but after about 10% completed I get an error message saying "There is insufficient disk space to complete the restore.  The (C partition may have files that were partially restored or not restored at all.  You must increase the size of this partition to complete this procedure."  I first used an identical 500 GB drive to the one that failed and then tried to restore to a 750 GB drive.  Same error comes up.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't think there are discs available, however you can download and install the latest R&R software from here:

However later on when I click on the "View all backups" button I see them all saved on the hard drive.

  • Rescue and Recovery backup with external hard drive

When I first backed up my computer to my WD 1 tb external hard drive using R&R, boot files were placed on the drive.  Recently, some files I had corrupted my external hard drive and I had to fully erase it.  Now, after making the drive recognizable again, I went to go back up my computer using rescue and recovery.  This time, it asked me whether or not I wanted to make the drive bootable, I said yes, but an error popped up saying I needed 1000 more mb, even though I had 931 gb open.  The backup started anyway, but it did not include any boot files.  Is there a way to make the drive bootable the next time I backup?  What is the difference between nonbootable and bootable?  Help? Thanks.

I do NOT have a external Hard drive.  If you just zeroed the drive, it is blank.    Go into control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management.  See if you can get  a PROPERTIES of the external drive and post a Screen shot of that here.    This will show what partition(s) are there, Fat32 vs NTFS.  My experience is after you zero a drive, You have to boot your system, then use a Vendor (WD) standalone format utility or windows Disk manangement format, Make partition, etc.  The screen shot i need is the one that says: DISK 1  (d 298.09 GB NTFS
Healthy(active, primary partition).  This is what my 2nd drive, D, says. 1 partion on the drive.
When i added my second hard drive, it was blank.  Booted up, BIOS recognized drive, Then i Formatted it with windows disk managment.  I then pointed R&R to take backups to that drive.  Create rescue media then made a Master boot record, install standalone R&R boots files, then took the backup.   This makes my 2nd drive bootable, should i ever care to boot my D drive up and have R&R standalone program in control.  Thus i have 2 bootable drives.  C boots into windows, D boots into the rescue and recovery standalone program.  I can also boot my C drive into R&R by hitting PF 11 at startup (bios) time.
Which version of r&r you have? Which version of windows? Windows 7 changed the way Master boot records are written.
You can go into R&R, advanced menu,  create rescue media. Point to your External drive. WARNING. make sure the do not destroy existing  data block is checked.  IF YOU ARE brave, uncheck the destroy existing data.  This will erase everthing on the drive!!! <<Warning. And be sure NOT to  point to any drive you really love.
Buts lets  1st get the screen shot requested to make sure the drive is FORMATTED correcly.

  • Rescue and Recovery: No backups available for "local hard drive" with Full Restore

I can see all my backups in "view all backups" and can restore individual files, although when I select the option for "full restore", it reboots my PC and brings up the Rescue and Recovery interface which gives me the option for "full restore".  When I select "full restore", it asks me to select the source.
As my backups are stored on my local hard drive, I select that source, however the scroll box is empty (no backups available for selection).
Can anyone recommend a solution to fix this problem, or should I remove and re-install Rescue and Recovery, then create new backups (and hope they appear in the list for full restore)?
I am running Rescue and Recovery 4.21.0016.00 on a Lenovo T61p with XP SP3.

  • Rescue and Recovery "File is in use and can't be copied" errors - T61 - WXP

    Hi and thanks -
When Rescue and recovery backs up, I frequently get  the error message, "This file is in use and can't be backed up.  Close all programs and try again" [my paraphrase].
Here is everything I have tried:
Restarting Windows and backing up "clean" - I have also attempted doing a "Clean boot" by stopping all services in "msconfig". - still got many of the error messages.
Starting in Safe mode - Rescue and restore doesn't work at all
Starting up in "ThinkVantage" and doing a backup from there - Rescue and restore will restore from a previous copy, but will not back up.
This backup error has gone on ever since I bought this macine used in January 2011, and I have never cared much.  But recently the machine had a "fatal error", and all of the backups were useless.  I had to comletely restore the machine to factory settings, which means I had to re-load all of my data and programs - an arduous task.  I do not want to meet this same fate again.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks!

Have you tried running a backup with your virus scanner / internet security software turned off? Sometimes these software can "hang" on files or folders with the intent to protect them and therefore prevent them being read
Before attempting the above please ensure your system has no Internet access
