Rescue and Recovery restored S and Q partitions but put nothing in Q

I had a new W520 running win 7 64-bit and then HDD crashed.
I got a new HDD from Lenovo and luckily I had created a backup on an external USB drive after I got migrated everything from my old system as well on CD/DVD. The R&R process seemed to work fine from the USB drive and the system came up running fine. It created the S and Q partitions.
However, I noticed that the Q seems to be empty now (it was 3/4 full prior the crash).
When I try to create "Factory Recover Disks" it claims the files are missing. I guess this is because Q is empty. I really do not need them
The S and Q drives do not show up in the HDD section in My Computer all the time. They seem to appear when I use the Factory Recover Disks progam but disappear once the program ends. There was an option about recovering the space for (Q) but this option seems to have disappeared.

Time to call Lenovo suppport.

Let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try the reset (both buttons) and restore as necessary.

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Failed Rescue and Recovery

I put the CD in to restore the T42p laptop (2373-ktu)and it crashed. Now each time I try to start up it hangs on the loading bar at the bottom of the screen and it reads "Please wait..." this stays there forever. Is there any way I can delete the previous crashed install and move forward with the recovery. I tried it with the CD in and out but neither works.
I was also trying the F11 approach to restore from the hidden partition but that did not work either.
Any suggestions?

247prods, welcome to the forum,
I would suggest running Hitachi Drive Fitness Test from bootable cd, therefore testing both drives at once. It maybe that a corrupted hard drive is the cause of your problems?
If everything is OK, disable the Pre-desktop area in BIOS (Security > IBM Pre-desktop area) and run Secure Data Disposal at its lowest level without writing reports to disc, this will remove everything from the hard drive. Then try the recovery cds again.

Where is Rescue and repair on my systems

Neither of my two units appear to have the ability to make my own restore disk.
My T41 has the recovery partition, but no Thinkvantage program.
My T43 has no recovery partition ( disc upgraded ) but has the Think Vantage program.
I cannot see any utility allowing me to create a restore disk for either machine and I can only seem to locate 'upgrades' to the Resue and recovery application.
There are rescue and repair downloads but these are only upgrades for versions that are already installed.
I cannot find a download for the original rescue and repair.
I am told I can make my own disks rather than order them from IBM.
Is there a simple solution to this?

You can make a backup of your current settings on a USB drive using ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery, I personally don't like it nor do I use it any longer, but this doesn't mean that the next person shouldn't give it a go.
As for recovery discs, you can buy them from lenovo or check with the marketplace of ThinkPads forum, maybe someone from UK might be able to hook you up with a set.
One time burning of recovery discs' limitation is from Microsoft, it's in the EULA.

Does Winclone still work to restore a Boot Camp partition?

I have a 50GB Boot Camp partition, NTFS file system, with Windows XP. My computer is a Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.5. I have been using Winclone to clone the Boot Camp partition as a backup. I know that Winclone is no longer supported, and have heard that Winclone may not work properly with Snow Leopard.
I have no problem creating an image of the Boot Camp partition using Winclone. I have not yet had to do a restore to a new partition, but assume that some day I may need to do so.
My question is: Has anyone running Snow Leopard successfully used Winclone to restore a Boot Camp partition?
A secondary question: Is there any other utility, running on the Mac side, that will clone/restore a Boot Camp partition?

Good luck to you. I am trying to transfer/migrate my Bootcamp partition (XP pro, FAT32) to a larger HD. I tried Winclone, and like you could create an image, but am unable to restore it on the new drive. I get the same error that you do. I tried creating a Bootcamp partition, rather than having Winclone do it, but would get this error in the log:
Source image volume size is not an exact multiple of 1 MiB
This happened whether I used Bootcamp Assistant or Disk Utility to create the partition, and it didn't matter whether I used a larger partition size or attempted to match the existing one. Apparently Winclone measures the block-sizes differently than Finder, Terminal, or any other measurement that I have used reports.
I've read about suggestions to turn my old FAT-32 Bootcamp Parition into an NFTS one, but I'm loathe to do that since I have on idea if that will work.

Can I copy the Recovery files to another D partition?

My disk came with C and D partitions, but I want to arrange my disk partitions differently from factory.
I want to shrink system (C) partition a bit, create a 15Gb partition, copy the recovery files to there (to keep the recovery files isolated), and rename that partition as the new D drive.
The only thing that matters for the recovery tool to work is to place the files on a D partition?
Has anyone done similar a thing?

To be honest I dont think that HDD recovery will work if you copy the files on another partition.
Why you want to do this?
I use the factory default form C: and D: partition. On C: I have installed all my programs and on drive D: I have saved my private files like Picture, Music, Videos, Documents, etc.
I dont see a reason to create a separate partition for HDD recovery files because they are saved in a additional folder.

This sounds like you have tried the steps I would recommend. You said, "tried restoring and restting it but still nothing??"
1. When you are done Restoring Firmware, does iTunes show your iPhone's information. If yes then your iPhone is ON and working. Next step is to Reset, like you tried, but do it again, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone restarts, usually less than 15 seconds. If still no screen, hold iPhone in bright light and look at screen, is an image there? If yes, you have a "No Backlight Problem".
2. If still no image, but you have confirmed iPhone is on with iTunes or switching Vibrate Switch and getting vibration. Then take iPhone to Apple and ask Genius to reconnect the Flex Cable #1 LCD Display Flex to the Logic Board. Before opening and during all repairs it is best if the iPhone 3GS is OFF.

I'm using thinkpad edge 11 with win 7 home Premium 32 bit.
Before, i tried to restore to factory setting, there is a drive partition of rescue and recovery in my thinkpad.
But, when I was trying to restore to factory setting, I missed the steps and made the drive partition of rescue and recovery formatted.
So, now, I don't have it again in my thinkpad.
Then, after that, appeared another drive partition in my thinkpad with name S: Sytem, beside C: WIndow7 and D: Data.
So, I need the solution from you all as knowing more about thinkpad edge in this forum.
1. How I remove the unkwon drive, S: System from my thinkpad?
2. How I can create again the rescue and recovery partition on my thinkpad(wih Win 7 Home premium 32bit installer inside plus all the drivers)?

Hello mate,
To restore the Q: partition you have to use the Lenovo Recovery Discs. Hope you burn them before erasing the partition, otherwise you have to order them from Lenovo.
