Rescued Old Imac G5

The other day my imac was frozen which is highly unusual and since then it has not been right. I can boot into safe mode and i have trawled these discussions and other forums for solutions. I have tried them all and i still cannot resolve the problem.
1-Is the problem hardware or software?
2-Has anyone managed to resolve this issue?
Please help.

The outcome was that the logic board had failed and had to be replaced.
The machine sat in the box for the next 3 years and one day I decided to open it up and after doing some reading online narrowed the issue down to blown capacitors on the logic board.
After order replacement capacitors from the US I dismantled the machine, soldered off the blown capacitors, replaced them and I now have a perfectly good running Imac G5.
If anyone would like info, advice or help in undertaking this repair please do not hesitate to contact me.

New imac doesn't locate old imac hard drive via usb port

I have an old iMac from ~2006 that recently stopped reading the harddrive. I pulled the HD out and connected it to my new imac via USB port but I can't locate it. The HD spins/powers up so I know the connector is strong enough to supply power. We connected it to my husband's PC and he can see that there is a harddrive but cannot see any files to read. He even tried Catacombe to try to read files but it didn't work. My first issue is how can I locate my HD on the new mac? But the main issue is how can I pull data/pictures off of the old harddrive and import them to my new computer. I don't hear any clicking sounds from the harddrive so it seems to be working. I can't reformat it because I don't want to lose the pictures on it. I don't need the old harddrive to work/write. I just need to pull the information off of it. TIA.

You have a problem with either a corrupt file system on the hd or a hardware problem with the hd. I'd say try mounting in disk utility. Try reparing filesystem on hd. Try one of the disk repair utilities. Some have a free trail that let's you know if they can do anything. You pay to get the data. Seek profession help. Pay $$$.

I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I haven't used it in years, but I would like to start. What are my options for getting it up to date? Is it even worth the trouble/cost? I was hoping to at least get it running Snow leopard, if not Lion. Options?

Old imac hard drive crashed... how to put ipod tunes into new imac's itunes

I'm sure this is something that's been revisited a number of times already... My "old" imac (2 years old -- yes I'm ****** but let's not go there) hard drive ceased living. I literally lost everything (had all data backed up, whew!).
Anyway, how can I put my itunes library, which is on my ipod, onto my new itunes on my new imac?

You can't do this using regular Apple software (it's designed to work in one direction only). However if you Google "transfer from ipod to itunes" several helpful links come up with utilities you can download to do this.
But if you have protected music on your iPod, do remember to "authorise"" your new HD first.

How do I use my old iMac as a third display on my new MacBook pro?

I have both an iMac 2006 and a new 2011 MacBook Pro. I would like to use the old iMac as a second, prhaps third, monitor. How do I tturn my perfectly good iMac into a regular monitor?
Also, within my setup, I have an extra 19" vga display and a new Yiynova 19" interactive pen display. I would like to use my macbook pro as the main coputer and the rest as displays.

You can direct connect your MBA to the LaCie via USB 2 cable. If you have an Apple Airport Router you can USB connect the LaCie drive to the router and then use Airport Utility to configure it. Time Machine can access it either way.

FireWire cables are dirt cheap and that's how you should be doing the migration. You might have to start over, wiping the new machine's HD, and restoring the software as described in the Everything Mac manual that came with it. See Best Practices and Setup new Mac for more details.

Can I hook up New Mac Mini to my old imac to share the display? I want to upgrade my iMac since I can not add more memories... but thought may be I can add New Mac Mini and use that along with my old iMac.. Will this work?

If your configuration supports Target Display mode, use that. If not, not without a standalone monitor and a product such as ScreenRecycler.
