Rescuing picture files from infested PC

I bought my first Mac last week after I ceded control of my PC (Windows XP) to two trojans known as Vundo and Generic Downloader (Please don't judge: I'm really old, and this is the first problem I've had in 20 years of novice computing).
I downloaded my picture files from the infected PC to a CD. My goal is to get those pictures onto my Mac without any trojans, viruses, etc that may have tagged along on the disc. Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

none of those trojans can do any harm to your mac. they are windows programs and can't run in os x. you can safely copy those files to the mac. however, if you plan to email any of those pictures to friends using windows they can infect their computers if you send those trojans along. therefore you might want to download and run [ClamXav|http://www.clamxav.com>. It's a free antivirus program for mac and it should be able to find and isolate those trojans if they are indeed present among the files you copied (which is not a given).

    Well, you didn't give any information on your Mac, your OS version, transfer pics from where to where, or anything else, so guessing is the best anyone can do at this point: you should be able to simply using drag and drop.

  • Disable "always do this for Picture files from device name " checkbox

    Bluetooth users should know well that as you send a file from your remote device to your laptop, there will be a notification on the lower right side of the screen. As you click the notification, it will show a popup window asking for your action.
    Now my problem is I seemed to have ticked the checkbox stating "Always do this for Picture files from <my handphone>" while transferring pictures from my handphone to the laptop. I clicked save in folder: <directory>. Now, every time
    I transfer pictures to my laptop through bluetooth, it becomes automatically saved into the <directory> and I regret it, I want it to let me choose where to save the file again like previously. How should I do that?

    Hi,
    Do we have a bluetooth manager in use?
    If yes, check here:Enabling windows 7 to allow bluetooth file transfers without confirmation
    Regarding receive files from bluetooth, Windows 7 will always provide the steps below:

    Please verify if we can do some changes on the phone side.

  • How do I OUTPUT an edited picture file from the iPad (latest) to an external USB for easy transfer?

    I am a photographer and I use my camera and iPad everyday. Camera takes pictures, connect to iPad, edit pictures with iPad software, output to Internet somwhere (Dropbox, etc..).
    However, sometimes I need to hand someone a USB stick with an edited picture on it that came directly from the iPad. I know that I could do it by buying another computer but that would be silly. I do not have another computer.
    I need to get the picture file OFF the iPad onto an external storage device (USB stick for instance). Can anyone help?

    Currently you can't use the camera connection kit to export pic to a USB thumb drive or an SD card.

  • Sending jpeg (pictures) files from my phone to my hotmail email come thru as txt files, but works fine with my friends

    Picture files sent from my phone come thru as txt files to my email instead of jpeg. but when I copy to others it goes thru as jpeg fine.

    Sorry let me correct something and give you some additional info. First I spelled .jpg wrong, and second my phone will send pictures to my mail 60 or so % of the time as .jpg and everything is fine but for no apparent reason some times they go thru as ,txt to my hotmail account email. I will also add if I copy a friend with the same picture they will get it as .jpg and be fine.

  • Getting picture files from a time machine backup

    hi...my old iMac (2008) finally died. my family all has notebooks, but we used to keep all of our pictures and music on the iMac, backed up in Time Machine on a LaCie external drive.
    we are not looking to replace the iMac. however, i need to be able to access the picture and music files from Time Machine on the external drive and put them on my lap top.
    how would i go about doing that?
    any advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

    You need to restore the iPhoto Library from time machine as shown below:
    Also you don't need to use the Reveal in Finder method to get the photos out of the library.  The following User Tip by Terence Devlin is the best treatise on how to access photos (for use outside of iPhoto):  How to Access Files in iPhoto

    Do you know of such an app?

  • Creating Picture file from text. HELP

    If someone could point me in the right direction or give me a example; that would be Great! Thank you, in advance.
    This is the case... I want to create a picture file based on the text file being read, either bipmap, jpg or any widely used picture file format. What the program will do is read a file and translate the file into a picture. Based on the parameters in the file the program will create a picture the picture will be both text and other symbols.
    Thank you.

    With javax.imageio it is very easy to save a BufferedImage, so the problem really is how to render text on a BufferedImage. Here's a short sample how one line of text can be saved into a .png image. Unfortunately laying out text, rendering multiple lines, deciding where the line should be broken etc is a little more complicated than rendering just a short bit of text, but there's a lesson on it in the Java2D tutorial at http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/2d/textandfonts/linebreakmeasure.html
    and further information in the 2D graphics guide at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/2d/spec/j2d-fonts.html#wp74623
    It might also be possible to get a gui component like JTextArea to handle the text layout and rendering for you.import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.Font;
    import java.awt.font.FontRenderContext;
    import java.awt.font.GlyphVector;
    import java.awt.Graphics2D;
    import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
    import java.awt.Rectangle;
    import java.awt.RenderingHints;
    import javax.imageio.ImageIO;
    import javax.swing.*;

         // Find out the bounds of the rendered text when fractional metrics and
         // antialiasing is used:
         FontRenderContext cntxt = new FontRenderContext(null, true, true);
         GlyphVector glvec = f.createGlyphVector(cntxt, text);
         Rectangle bounds = glvec.getPixelBounds(cntxt, 0, 0);
         // Set up an image that has the same size as the rendered text:
         BufferedImage image = new BufferedImage(bounds.width, bounds.height,
              BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
         Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) image.getGraphics();
         g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_FRACTIONALMETRICS,
                        RenderingHints.VALUE_FRACTIONALMETRICS_ON);
         g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_TEXT_ANTIALIASING,
                        RenderingHints.VALUE_TEXT_ANTIALIAS_ON);
         // Fill the background of the image with white:
         g2d.setColor(Color.WHITE);
         g2d.fillRect(0, 0, image.getWidth(), image.getHeight());
         // Render the text on the image in black:
         g2d.setFont(f);
         g2d.setColor(Color.black);
         g2d.drawGlyphVector(glvec, -bounds.x, -bounds.y);
         // Save the image as PNG to text.png:

    Thank you for your fast response ! I have a 2 TB Time Capsule as well. Maybe I will be moving the images to the Time Capsule and give it a try creating
    a new catalogue from that. All kind of files worked very well on all Mac OS X and still do except images. So it doesn't seem to be a Mac OS X / NAS thing
    generally. Looks more that LR 5 doesn't like the NAS especially when we take into consideration that the files work perfectly on my MacBook AIR that has
    access to the NAS, too but without LR 5.

  • Error message exporting large picture file from Aperture 3.5

    Recently I took a large panaramic comprised of 165 pictures using Gigapan Epic Pro and stitched together using software provided with Gigapan. I exported the stitched file into Aperture to perform final edits.  When I go to export the final version I keep getting an error message. The file size will be approximately 2.0 GB. I've been able to export a 0.7 GB file without problems (it did take several minutes). I have a late 2009 27" iMac with 3.3 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 16 GB memory. Any suggestions?  Not sure if this is an Aperture problem or if my system is not up to the task. Below is the error mesage I receive.  Thanks for your assistance.

    Testing: Exporting a large TIFF - the original is 24512 × 23016 (564,2 MP), 1.05 GB
    The exported file that I am seeing on my Desktop after 10 minutes, is showing this in the Preview:
    But after exporting there was no message at - neither an error message nor the usual alert when finished "Export 1 version completed - Reveal ...".
    So, I am not yet conviced that the export went well, but Aperture can export gigantic TIFFs.
    What is the file format you have been using? My test was done with TIFF, 16 bit.

  • Rescuing iTunes files from a broken computer

    I have an iPhone 3G, synced to a PC running windows 7. Or at least, I did, until the PC died.
    The hard drive is still OK. What files do I need to move from the disk drive of the broken computer to my new computer, so that I can sync my phone without erasing everything?
    I do not have a recent backup of the iPhone.

    Copy the iTunes Folder (NOT the iTunes Music Folder, the one above that) to your new computer.

  • How do I import music and picture files from my Creative Zen?

    I have a Creative Zen media player, which uses Windows Media Player to operate. I have downloaded media player for Mac OS X, but cannot figure out how to import my music. On my old PC, when I plugged in my mp3 player, it automatically was recognized. Nothing happens when I plug it in to my iMac. What do I need to do?

    I have bought a couple of Creative MuVo's for loved ones, and they, as removable USB thumb drives, work well with any OS. The Zen, on the other hand, doesn't have the design simplicity of the MuVo, which is why I didn't buy one. I think that they will pretty much only work with Windows.
    One thing is for sure: If you plug in the Zen and it doesn't mount on the Desktop or in a Finder window, it isn't going to work with OS X--yet, at the same time, might possibly get corrupted or damaged when it fails to mount correctly and then you unplug it
    P.S. Windows Media Player 7.1 for Mac does not have any support for portable players, and given the availability of Microsoft's free Flip4Mac plugin, is truly a worthless download. If this program has been installed, it would probably be best to delete it (and its preference files for that matter) to avoid potential conflicts with the up-to-date Flip4Mac plugin, which I assume you're going to install. Keep in mind that this plugin has nothing to do with adding support for portable players, but since we're on the subject of Windows Media Player, I thought it in good judgment to mention this.

  • Picture Files from iWeb

    I have lost data on my harddrive and the only place some of my photos exist is on my iWeb sites. Can anyone tell me where the actual photo files exist in the iPhoto format? I don't have files for iWeb like I did for the old website application in iPhoto.
    Note to readers: 1 cup of milk + 4 year old + laptop = lost data.

    Yes. I can still access my iWeb site but the photos dont seem to publish like they did before I upgraded to iPhoto w/ iWeb. The old way had me uploading a folder containing the pics to my iDisk.

  • Link missing from iPhoto Library to picture files

    In iPhoto '08 when pointing to a picture and using drop down box to "show original file" it shows the linkage/ file tree diagram from picture to next level up subdirectory to Original to iPhoto Library to Pictures. Yet when looking for my picture files from Finder to User to Pictures to iPhoto Library there is no linkage to the Original subdirectory. NB there is no arrow under the iPhoto Library indicating a subdirectory. All that shows is a Preview column showing size of the pictures in the file but no file. How can this be fixed so I can find pcitures from Finders approach.

    Thanks. First of all, I really appreciate the time you are taking to try and help me.
    To begin, attaching pictures for emailing purposes wasn't the main problem for me, because I am using Mail to read my Yahoo mail, and have been using the email button in the iPhoto app.
    My frustrations were when I was on a site, such as Shutterfly, snapfish, and I was choosing the pictures that I wanted to upload. I have thousands of pictures and because I don't keyword or rename them, I was used to being able to find the pictures I wanted by the visual in file system. Based on the folder names. I guess I am confused, because when I click the browse button, I am presented with what looks like a finder window. So, maybe my question is how to view the picture files via the finder. I was referring to your suggestion:
    "Also, for 10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there."
    When I do the above, I still keep just launching the app. not seeing the files that are hidden within.
    I did follow your instuctions below, but was unable to attach. Only when I dragged the photo to Safari on the dashboard, did it open in a separate Safari browser. It did not link or merge with the attach window.
    Open Safari and go to attach a pic to an Email. The attach window descends in Safari
    Now, pop back to the iPhoto Window and drag the pic from the iPhoto Window to the attach window
    Does that work?
    If it does, you can then try replacing the iPhoto Window and use the Media Browser window, but remember you're dragging from the browser to the Safari window, not trying to find a file via the Attach window.
    Yes but iPhoto is nothing like Windows Explorer. If you want to mimic that format you would use the Finder, not iPhoto. iPhoto is a database application, a photo organiser, not the main Computer filing system.
    I guess this is more what I would appreciate help with. Although, I think I need to spend a little more time in iPhoto creating Albums, versus the Events that all of my pictures have be organized in by default.
    I think you might have misunderstood my comment below...I just want to be able to find the photo files with a visual not just the file name. Because I have no other way to find them in a browse situation.
    Of course, you'll be able to do the same. But why you would want to work via "little thumbnails" when you can do so in more comfort via the Media Browser or the iPhoto Window I don't know.
    I was formerly using Picasa on my Windows computer, which is a really easy app. and when I created a new album, it was very easy to find in the Windows Explorer when browsing for an upload. Obviously I need a little more time with the iPhoto, but I have been trying to do this for about 2 months when I got the computer, with what I thought was pretty decent common computer knowledge, but feel totally lost. I guess I feel a little bummed that I made a switch to Mac based on the concept that it was simpler, but it has proven to be much for difficult to do the very basic things I use my computer for everyday.
    You've changed Computer, Operating System and now you've made an enormous change from using the File System to organise your pics to using a Photo Organiser. There's going to be change involved, and some learning to be done.
    Thank you again for your time.
    Kari
