Reserved ip address for vpn client ?
I need to find a way to have the 10.8 server vpn service give the same ip address when a vpn client connects, is this possible?
By default, every time a client connects, then disconnects and connects again they will get the next incremental ip address in the ip address pool set in the vpn server configuration
If you eliminate the pool and use just one IP address, technically that should work however, only one client at a time can connect to the VPN server. Would that work for you?

ISE Profiling options for VPN clients
I'm trying to mull over what profiling options are available for VPN users. I have an environment using ASA VPN in conjunction with ISE IPN to allow full posturing for VPN clients prior to allowing network access. The use case here is we want to allow BYOD-type devices in for VPN (using software clients), but want to allow them to be exempted from ISE posturing requirements. I don't see an easy way to distinguish these device types that cannot use the NAC agent from the O/Ses that can. Since the mac address isn't sent to the headend, I can't use any of the traditional DHCP-based profiling criteria. So the net effect is these devices are stuck in the "unknown" posture state and have very limited access. Any way around this catch-22? Incidentally DHCP profiling is on and working fine for the wireless users on the network, but doesn't help me here since I only know the machines by their mac address.
Chris I ran into the same issue. Netflow doesn't work and use packet captures to see if anything was worth while. The only option I see is filing a enhancement request to see if the asa can send the device platform over ot ise via radius (much like the device sensor feature on ios).
I also tried to use a span session and the catch with is that the asa doesn't assign the calling station id attribute to the tunnel ip, but the public ip the user is connecting from. So ise doesn't apply the user agent attributes to the current session.
I was able to find a way around this by modifying the messaging via root patch to have the users click a link instead of retrying their request when they hit the cpp portal as a mobile device.

Question: I want to have the MAC address of a machine checked when the user is logging into VPN Client.

I have found out in some of my testings that If a PC doesnot genareate any kind of traffic and is totally ideal and once the MAC-address table ages out, it doesnot show its MAC untill the PC generates some kind of traffic.I guess this is what you must be seeing.
I have oberved one more thing that If I connect a fully booted PC which not generating any traffic to a switch port it doesnot learn its Mac-address untill its generates the traffic. This is what my obeservations is and that what I believe in most of the cases.

Configuring SUP address for IBCM Clients
I have a question about how to configure SUP address for clients that will be roaming from Intranet to the Internet (aka VPN Users)
Currently I have IBCM up and running. Clients report in and are able to download and install software from the IBCM DP. Currently we have group policy's configured to point clients to the correct internal WSUS/SUP servers.
For clients to use IBCM and Internet based SUP is a Windows Update group policy not possible at all? For example is the only way for clients use the IBCM SUP to have absolutely no WSUS Group Policy configured? Is configuring a Domain Group
Policy to have clients point to the Internet Based IBCM SUP not possible?

that the local group policy will be created regardless of using the domain group policy. So, its just a redundant effort.

DNS permission denied for vpn clients?
I have an x-serve setup to allow a client access remotely to a local network via VPN. I'm currently having an issue with the DNS server however, which is not allowing me to do lookups when connected via the VPN:

The DNS server resolves perfectly fine for physical machines on the local network.Have you added the range of VPN-assigned addresses to the list of clients the DNS server will respond to?
Server Admin -> (server) -> DNS -> Settings -> Accept recursive queries from the following networks
This will have to include the VPN client address range in order for the DNS server to respond to their queries. -
Can WLC's built-in DHCP provide IP addresses for wired client?

We've got a WLC running on 7.0.98.0. It's providing IP addresses for the Guest Wireless users. Now we'd like to put a couple of wired workstations for those customers who don't bring laptops. I'm wondering if I put these workstations on the same guest wireless vlan, they can still get IPs from the WLC. If not, I have set static IPs on these workstations.

The answer is simply "No". WLC can not provide wired clients on same wireless VLAN with IP addresses if the DHCP is configured on WLC.
The case metnioned by fbarboza above is a "very" special configuraiton on WLANs where the WLC is configured to take care of some wired clients and it needs you to have two WLCs (The featured is called wired guest).This special case does not apply at your situation.
With your situation my answer above applies.
Note A internal DHCP server pool will only serve the wireless clients of that controller, not clients of other controllers. Also, internal DHCP server can only serve wireless clients and not wired clients.

L2TP and fixed Framed IP Address for VPN user

I have a running L2TP/IPsec VPN setup with authentification against a radius server (freeradius2 witch mysql). I would like to have some of my VPN users get a fixed IP address instead of the dynamically assigned IP Pool.
The radius server is returning the correct parameters, I think.

Unable to set manual IP address for VPN connection
Recently a VPN connection with a client stopped working. They changed phone companies and changed some of the IP addresses.
After alerting them I could no longer log in, I received the new server address which I can log in with it,
BUT my computer is assigned a dynamic address that is already in use on their network. This causes my computer to *not* be connected to their network, even though I am inside their firewall; therefore I cannot adjust the database files I need to.
I have tried to set the VPN (PPTP) connection TCP/IP address IPv4 manually, using the static address they just gave me. But each time I connect, [I believe] their router assigns me an address that is already in use.
They do not use IPv6.
Can anyone give me direction on how to make the manual IP address *stick*?
The tech person at the site keeps telling me it is a problem with my "Mac, because with Windows.... blah, blah, blah".
I am pretty sure this is not the case and in fact I was the one who let her know I was receiving a duplicate address.

Please make sure the Ad hoc connection IP adress is at the same range with your local connection. In addition, how about recreate the ad hoc connection for test, please have a try.
If problem persists, please use Network troubleshooter in Action Center to fix this problem for test.

Is there a limit to the number of reserve IP addresses for Time Capsule?
I'm at 25 and I need to go to 32. The Airport Ultility is not letting me add any more. For DHCP auto the range is 10.0.1.2 thru 10.0.1.140.
Thanks!Yes, there is.. if you have hit 25 and no more are allowed then that is the limit.. All routers have limited internal memory to handle things like DHCP reservations... so there is always limits.. !! I don't remember apple ever gives a number.. but people I am sure will have reported them.
I will do a search... nope .. in 5min I cannot find anything so it must be hidden pretty deep.
I do know there is a 50 user limit.. That should mean 50 active users..
Please also do remember this is a domestic level router.. for most people setting 25 clients to dhcp reservation (allowing another 25 dynamic) would be way beyond the average usage apple intended the TC for. -
Changing router internet IP address for VPN connectivity
I have a Linksys WRT300N router that I just installed for use with my desktop and laptop in my home office. One of the things I need to do is connect to a VPN, but apparently I'm unable to do that since their address is the same as my router's address. How can I change my router's address so there won't be a conflict with connecting to the VPN? Any help in this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance... DI

Under Setup .... change the Local IP address to 10.10.10.1 or 192.168.X.1 .... click save settings......
