Reset 2600 series - no console connection

I used this article to reset a 2600 Series router/voice gateway to it's default settings but it's not connection to my console connection after the reload....
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps5187/products_tech_note09186a00802017a1.shtml
Any suggestions for how I can get in there again?

you should be set for 9600 8 none 1, and flow control set to off.

Steve

  • Trouble getting Cisco 2600 Series AP to stay joined to WLC 5508

    Hi,
I have recently been tasked with upgrading our old Autonomous APs to LWAPs.  We have a 5508 WLC at our Virtual Co-Lo and I am using Flexconnect to accomadate local switching and dhcp at our sites.  I have upgraded over 50 APs and joined them to the controller.  These include only 1130AG and 1240AG models.  However they are working flawlessly and staying connected to the controller.  The issue I'm having is with a new batch of 2600 series APs staying connected to the controller.  I have attempted to do research into what may be causing the disconnects but have yet to find a solution.  I am using DNS to resolve the CAPWAP & LWAPP queries from the APs to the controller accross our WAN.  In reading other posts I thought it may be an issue with packets getting dropped but have had our Vendor who manages Sonicwalls at both ends of the WAN confirm for me there is no packet loss.  Below are logs I gathered using puttty from the AP & WLC.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
AP I'm doing the testing on:

Under my AP Policies I only have "Accept Manufactured Installed Certificate (MIC)" checked.  I attempted to add the AP based on MAC Address (c0:67:af:6f:25:70) with this certificate type but still have the same issue.  I then ran the following debug on my controller and this is the output I recieve regarding that MAC.  I tried to cut the output short because it get's somewhat redundant but was unsure what exactly to look for in the output.  Should I be selecting a different certificate type?  I am somewhat new to wireless technologies but doing my best to pick things up so if this seems trivial please forgive my ignorance.

  • Cisco 2600 series router and cable modems

Hi everyone, I am just about to get started preparing for my CCNA... I am looking to pick up some used Cisco 2600 series routers to set up a home lab. I am wondering if it is possible to connect a cable modem directly to a 2600 series router? If so, do I need a certain type of WIC? I want to go from my cable modem, to a router, to my switch. Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Yes you can, using the Ethernet port on the cable modem, you can connect the cable modem to the router 2600, and the 2600 comes with builtin ethernet or fastethernet (according to your platform).
    HTH,
    Mohammed Mahmoud.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Is there a risk of setting a console connection timeout and what is the recommended setting?

Is there a risk of setting a console connection timeout and what is the recommended setting? Please suggest if there is any best prctice documentation that can be referred.

    Hi Henrik
depend on what you need or what your security policy says for my lab gear i use 60 minutes. because i know how can access this. if you have gear outside in insecure space set it to a minimum or disable the console. everybody how can access your gear can break in. simple restart and boot w/o config. and you are in.
it realy depends how secure is your space and how much security you need.
and than the settings for policy have to match, what sec do you have if your console login and logout is secure. but when you restart you can simple break in by starting w/o config and than load it.

  • Part 1 in a series of internet connection problems.

Sorry in advance if this turns into a largehuge post. I'm pretty much at wits end with my internet connection issues though. So thanks in advance for any help.
Somehow, I managed to completely mess up my home network...almost. I have a 15" TiBook running 10.3.9 which can no longer connect to the internet at all - not even when plugged directly into the cable modem (FWIW, my ISP is OneLink in Puerto Rico. My guess is that's not worth much.). Also FWIW, the modem is an Atlanta-Scientific DPC2100.
My roommate has a 12" PB running 10.4 that works fine when plugged into the modem, so the problem isn't that the modem's broken or that I haven't paid the bill.
Both computers are set to configure automatically, and as far as I can tell, all other settings are the same. On the 12", IP address (70.45.49.90), subnet mask, and router information all automatically appear, the computer connects just fine, and I'm able to post this question.
On the 15", however, the IP address shows up as 169.254.154.224 and the subnet mask is different (in the last two octets). There is no router information. In the Network Status window, it says "Built-In Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet." When I try to get online, "may notn be able to" rapidly becomes "can not", because all Safari tells me is "Safari can't open the page blah blah blah because it can't find the server blah blah blah."
I've tried manually setting the IP address, etc., but I still get the same error message from Safari. I've tried going to http://17.254.0.91/ to get to apple.com, but still had no luck, suggesting that it's not just a DNS error.
If I take my computer to work and plug into the network there, I can get online just fine, so it's not the Ethernet card.
I figure I inadvertently changed some setting, but for the life of me can't figure out which. Reading through all the relevant Apple support documentation that I could find didn't help either.
I haven't called the tech support for my ISP yet because it's hard to find anyone there that speaks passable English. So, if anyone has any suggestions as to what might be going wrong here, it would be greatly appreciated, because I am at a complete loss after a couple days of banging my head against this problem.
If we can manage to fix this problem, I will delight you with Part 2 in my series of internet connection woes: Why does my wireless router not love me anymore?
Thanks again in advance for a) still reading all of this and b) any advice you might have.

(First off, I agree that console connections are not preferred, SSH, HTTPS, SNMP all have their advantages, but when something goes down or stops responding to normal methods the amount of time and frustration that can be saved by not having to search for "that one laptop that has a serial port" or "my specific laptop that has the USB-Serial driver installed" is invaluable.)
With the proliferation of tablet devices (ipad, cius, samsung's proposed, etc.), add to it a serious lack of serial ports on most laptops/netbooks/etc being released.  It's getting harder and harder to connect to console ports on cisco devices.  USB to serial adapters fit the bill for now, provided you had the right drivers to run the adapter on your device (read: doesn't address tablets and smartphones).
I understand that the cisco console connection is considered "legacy" and that USB connections are becoming more popular with newer Cisco devices, but in the meantime it would be nice to manage my slice of the millions of "legacy" devices out there.
Bluetooth serial seems to hold promise, though the serial features of bluetooth aren't typically incorporated into most devices right now.  What i guess I'm looking for is a way to manage my router and switch console ports from a smart phone or tablet device.
Has anyone seen anything like this out there right now?
I would think that Cisco would be interested in marketing such a feature with their new Cius, or an iPod or Android app.  Even if it cost a couple of bucks for the adapter or the software, it would be well worth it to be able manage these devices in a pinch.
Thanks to anyone that can help!
    JM

I agree, it wold be handy to have.
One thing some of us use is iSSH on the iPhone or iPad. Straight across the in-house wi-fi LAN if there's a working one in house or via the VPN tunnel if not. The use cases of no w-fi, no VPN or an unresponsive box are still not addressed by that solution though.

  • 1600 and 2600 series aps no heatmap on cisco prime 1.4.0.45

after plotting 1600 series and 2600 series aps on the respective uploaded maps, there's NO heatmap coming out.
    setup composed of:
    1600 series aps
    2600 series aps
    wlc running HA (7.4.121.0)
    cisco prime 1.4.0.45
i noticed some errors from prime:
error 1: Exception while computing Coverage Heatmap. Message: COMMON-1 Try Recompute RF Prediction - this error message shows after positioning the aps on the map and clicking save button. it took sometime to display then this error message shows.
error 2: Error in Recompute RF Prediction: SyntaxError:syntax error - this error shows after running recompute rf prediction option
i tried 802.11a/n and 802.11b/g/n protocols but still no heatmap. i tried unselecting ap heatmaps option and select it again but still no heatmap.
anybody have an idea what is going on? tia

    Hi,
Try removing both APs from the map and saving. Next, go back into the map an assign the APs. If they still do not map then I would look at the traps on the controller and make sure that the AP is fine. I would also look at performing an on demand refresh from the controller to the WCS. You can do this from the management page in WCS.

  • Console connection to Windows Console via RDP

RDP 5.2 has the option of connecting to the console of a Windows Terminal Server. Is this also possible from SGD?
There is no option for the console connection for /opt/tarantella/bin/bin/ttatsc
    SGD version is 4.2

In the article you posted (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278845/ )
    I can read:
    MORE INFORMATION
In Windows Server 2003, when you use Terminal Services, you can connect to the console session (session 0), and at the same time, open a shadow session to it (as long as you connect from a session other than the console). With this added functionality, you can log on to a Windows Server 2003-based server that is running Terminal Services remotely and interact with session 0 as if you were sitting at the physical console of the computer. This session can also be shadowed so that the remote user and the local user at the physical console can see and interact with the same session.
if I connect via the command mstsc -v:servername /F -console as you describe, in task manager I see my connection with id 0...

  • Console Connection

I'm just curious if I've missed anything. Now that no one is making laptops with COM ports any longer, and it looks like desktops will soon be following suit, how is Cisco planning on handling the Console connection in the future? My laptop died and I am having a heck of a time reconfiguring routers, since many of them are in phone closets far away from the nearest desktop.
    Paul

Well, for the short term, you can use some/most USB->RS232 adapters on the laptop.
Beware though: not all of them support "COM:x" style communication (or they support it, but just don't work with some terminal programs).
In the long term, I'd expect that Cisco will shift to USB. Most of the new stuff has some flavor of USB connection.
Blame Intel; they're the ones working so hard to get rid of the legacy connections (PS2 Keyboard, Mouse, and serial ports).
If you have a couple devices per closet, your other option might be a one, two or four-port terminal server; then you can telnet in from your desktop and save youself the walk to the closet.
It's still a serial connection to the device, so you can change IP addresses, masks, & such and reboot ...
The last time I checked, the two-port term servers were well under US$100.
