Reset all Vs Reset Data

Is there any advantage of performing 'reset all' of database?
Does it improve performance better that 'reset' command?

Hello John,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
Developer wants to write a script that will copy the outline to a temp location, reset all, and then copy the outline back.
But I want to know how it improves performance better than 'reset'?
We are not trying to build it from scrath.
We are loading the data and we want to reset the database everytime before we do that to improve the performance.
So in this scenario do we need to perform reset all?
Thanks
Hemanth

  • Reset all settings and data

I reset my ipod touch 2G 8gb with the reset all settings and data option.
Now all my ipod does is is display the apple logo and loading circle for a few minutes, then seems to shut off then turn back on and repeats over and over and over. I set it to recovery mode, and itunes recognizes it, but when i update it, it finishes the download, then tells me that the connection timed out, and removes the download from the list.
I've tried everything i can find to no avail. Can someone help me?

Have you tried restoring it from itunes?

  • Would resetting all settings reset device management set up with a school?

At the beginning of the school year, the school had us set up our ipads so that they were connected with the school's device management. My parents recently forgot the parental controls password for my ipad, and are wonering if resetting all ipad settings would remove device managements.

Not if they set it up to prevent this.
    Not likely.

  • How can I reset all my song data - genre, year, album art etc. from CDDB?

Like most people I've built up my music collection over quite a few years.
In the old days, album info often couldn't be found online, and I had to input data manually.
Also, new fields have appeared in the CDDB since I imported some older tracks.
This means that a lot of my songs have data missing in fields, poor quality album art, or inconsistent genres etc.
Is there anyway to strip out this information and get iTunes to go back to the CDDB and download the info (for tracks already in the library) afresh?
The obvious way, selecting an album and choosing "get CD track names" doesn't seem to work if there is already data there, even if it's manually entered and incorrect.
Also, if you try and get new album art, iTunes won't replace art manually associated with the files (i.e. that I added myself from a low-res image 5 years ago).
This must be a fairly common issue - can anyone help to solve it?
Obviously the more global the solution the better - i.e. a way to do it to multiple albums, rather than one track at a time!
    Many thanks in advance
    T.

I have bad news for you...I tried doing the same thing a while back and couldn't find any easy way. Eventually, I had to strip the mp3 tags from the songs and (using a third party mp3 tag editor) had software that automatically looked them up on the net and put the info back in. Then, I had to get the album artwork in iTunes. Quit a pain! I did it one album at a time. Good luck!

  • Reset all settings on iOS 8.1.3

I have been having many battery problems on my iPhone 6, and it hasn't changed with iOS 8.1.3. So I read that it would be good to try resettings all settings. I read that it won't touch my music, photos, apps, etc.
But I would like to know what exactly it does, I have been searching and googling everywhere and I can't find information about it. Does it reset all Settings to default, or does it also reset all my apps settings (all the little changes I have been doing to my apps over weeks)?
Because if it resets only the phone settings to default that's Ok with me, I can reset them. But if it resets all my app data (passwords, every configuration, etc) that's not ok.
    Thanks!

Your phone will not be reset to like new or the factory default condition. Resetting all settings will remove all passwords, user names and other Settings that you have entered. This includes Wi-Fi networks. It will not remove the apps you have added or the data that those apps contain. It will not remove your photos or music.
To check which apps might be using the most of your battery life use the settings app.
Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage
This will show you which apps are using the battery and by how much. Once you have that solid information you can take steps to cut down how much battery the offending apps use.

  • When resetting all settings remember to reset mail settings

I had to do a reset all settings reset yesterday to get the music player controls to work in the control center and on the lock screen.  That worked fine. And I went back into settings and turned off all the battery killers but forgot to change email from push to manually fetch and it really killed my battery.  30% in an hour of just sitting on my desk locked.
Once I changed my email back to fetch the battery life if fine again.

    found it on the site.

  • What happen to the Photo library when I choose Reset all Settings on my Ipad?

I just wanna know what will happen to all of my photos if I choose Reset all Settings on the Ipad 2

    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Reset All Settings does not delete anything, all it does is take most of the iPad's settings back to default (with the exception of accounts setting, and maybe a couple other things.) It is perfectly safe.
The only inconvenience is that you have to go back through almost all your settings and set them to your preference.

  • How can I simply restore lost app data from iCloud, without resetting all content. Please someone!!!

I accidentally deleted a timesheet app from my iPhone, I reinstalled the app again but the data did not come back with it. Can someone help me with details how I can restore my lost data for just that app, from iCloud. iCloud is and was set up on my phone and was updated 3 days before this happened. People have suggested I "reset all content and setting" and it will come back. The sounds of deleting all content on my phone worries me. I have no other devices to back up on, so my only back up is in "iCloud"
Is there a simple way I can download and reinstall just the data for the app from iCloud?

Delete all content and settings will wipe your phone. You cannot selectively restore in iTunes or iCloud, it is either all or none. You would have to restore to a backup before you deleted the app to be able to recover the data. However, anything that you did since that time would be lost.

  • So I rebooted my iMac to reset the administrator password and now all of my data is gone. How do I get everything back on my computer?

So I forgot my administrator password and I rebooted my computer to reset it and now everything is gone. How do I get all of my data back? Thanks!

Exactly how did you "reboot to reset"?
Rebooting simply means shutting down the machine and turning it back on. That does not erase any data.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • So here's my problem. I just used the "reset all settings" option, and accidentaly restored an old backup. It deleted all my photos and contacts, but for some reason I still have all the apps from after the backup date, is there a way to get it all back?

So here's my problem. I just used the "reset all settings" option, and accidentaly restored an old backup. It deleted all my photos and contacts, but for some reason I still have all the apps from after the backup date, and it also kept the notes from after the backup. The "reset all settings" option clearly says no loss of data or media, so I don't understand why some stuff got deleted. My question is, is there a way to get it back?

If you still can find a recent backup listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, use this one to restore from.
If there are no recent backups listed, your data is gone. Only if you included the iTunes backup folder into your computer backup routine, you could be able to restore this folder and find one of your latest backups listed again.
