Reset Bluetooth connection without rebooting?

I'm using a wireless Mighty Mouse. After 20-30 minutes of use, it frequently gets very slow and jumpy. I've found that rebooting the computer "resets" the connection and returns with good performance.
But I shouldn't have to reboot every 30 minutes just to keep the mouse working. Is there any other way to "reset" the Bluetooth connection? I don't see anything like that under the Bluetooth settings.
Is the answer to keep "re-pairing"?
If I turn my mouse off, then back on, a gray "connection lost" mouse icon appears briefly on the screen so I know the computer detects it, but I can't seem to reconnect without rebooting (or re-pairing, if that's the best option).
Also, if I put my Mac to sleep, I lose the mouse connection -- even if the mouse is turned on at the time I wake the computer. Is this normal?

Okay, I've taken to turning my mouse off and re-pairing it every 20 minutes or so. I can't believe this is how it's supposed to work. Isn't there a better way?
Note: My Logitech Bluetooh mouse never had this problem.

  • T420 Bluetooth connection without pairing

    Hi all,
i am trying to connect to a bluetooth device that does not manage pairing numbers.
I can do that with other laptops, windows xp  and a bluetooth Digicom usb key,
but i can't with my T420, windows 7 and the Lenovo bluetooth.
When i add the device, i choose "connect without pairing" but when i try to connect to the serial port of the device, i receive the message "allow a device to connect" and i am required for the pairing code !!
    Any suggestion?

The default pairing code will vary between products.
Common variants include 0000 and 1234.
It is best to consult the Bluetooth device's manual.

  • Magic mouse constantly disconnects and can't get it to connect without rebooting the computer.  Anyone else have this issue

How do you solve the problem of the magic mouse constantly disconnecting?  I have changed the batteries and turn it on and off, but the only way to get it to reconnect seems to be re-starting the computer.  Any thoughts?  Thank you.

    Greetings Beth,
Wireless devices are susceptible to interference.  Review this article for common sources: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3048#5
They are also very sensitive to low power.  Make sure you are using VERY fresh batteries.  If they have been sitting on a shelf for months they don't count as fresh IMO.
Troubleshooting steps to try after you read that article at the top:
Remove the following to the trash: Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
Restart the computer and re-pair the mouse and keyboard
If issue persists reset the SMC:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If the issue persists reset the PRAM:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    Hope that helps!

  • Can I reset serial ports without rebooting?

I have an application that communicates with a SilverMax servo drive over RS232.  If the device is off when I run my VI or if it gets turned off during a program run, the serial port locks up at the VISA serial write VI.  I need to hit the reset button on the PC to recover.

    Hi TAS1,
Try the Basic Serial Write and Read Example VI, and see if the example works.  You can find the example in the NI Example Folder, which you can access by navigating to Help » Find Examples... in LabVIEW.  The behavior you described is unexpected.  Make sure that there is a delay, as shown in the example, and that the VI executes all the way to the end, where there should be a VISA Close.  It is important that VISA Close executes, because this clears the VISA resource.  Please let me know if you have any questions about the example.

I would try another restore of the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. Maybe something went wrong in the process. Make sure everything works before applying any updates and adding any hardware or software.
Then add things carefully, rebooting Windows and testing the USB and audio at each step.
    Please note this.
The only info windows gives me for the sound card is that it from Microsoft... with a driver version of 6.1.7601.17514....which naturally doesn't really help me since I have no idea what card or mobo I have . Is there any way for me to find out what I need other than opening up my laptop?
Every one of them lists my mobo simply as a Toshiba motherboard, with no audio card information. Which I'm assuming that is because it has an internal sound processor. My problem is that none of the properties, or ANYTHING I try, will give me information on what I need to fix this...
All of the latest drivers for your model are easily found here. This one is for the sound.

  • My wifi wasn't working for more than 10 minutes at a time after updating to IOS8 and resetting network settings. I turned off google drive, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings and rebooted my iPad4. So far so good.

I have an ipad4.  Wifi keeps cutting out after the upgrade even after I forget the network and resign on or reset all network settings. I deleted iCloud drive from my iPad, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings, and rebooted my iPad. Since I upgraded to IOS8 this is the longest wifi has consistently been working for me. Which is approximately an hour now. Anyone else find that this worked or have figured out if this or anything out there is a permanent fix?

    Hi CollinGCC78,
It sounds like you have been on the right track in troubleshooting this issue. If you are still having issues, you may want to double-check the steps outlined in the following article, in order if possible (apologies for replicating any steps you have already taken):

  • Multiple Apple Bluetooth Keyboards Require Reboot to Connect

Hello - I'm running Windows 8.1 in Bootcamp. I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard at home as well as at work. If I'm connected to one (e.g. at home), the work keyboard is not recognized - unless I reboot. I've tried manually switching to each keyboard, but it states that it cannot recognize it. Is there anyway to easily switch keyboards without rebooting? TIA.

From other sites that I've read, it appears that you need to boot to Mac OS to connect to the "other" keyboard and then boot into bootcamp....is the only way to go. If anybody else has suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

  • Can I reset my iPad without a pass code or connecting to iTunes?

So I'm currently on vacation and while in a car left my Bluetooth keyboard on and now cannot connect to my iPad, due to the keyboard trying to enter the password too many times. I am wondering if there is any way to access or hard reset my ipad without being able to get into my ipad (because it is necessary for me to connect to iTunes) and I have no access to iTunes at this time while on vacation. Keep in mind please that I do  Not have in connected to iCloud. Thanks so much

I am afraid you need a computer to Restore/Recover your iPad.

    1) are you sure a reset holding the reset button will not delete my data?
Absolutely sure.. There is no connection at all.. reset is only the router side of the TC.
For the hard disk to be erased you need to access the airport utility disk page.. request erase and confirm the operation.
    2) I can access to time capsule by ethernet but I am not able to input the corret setting by myself
    Thank you again
I am uncertain why if you have access you cannot change settings.. but that is why you reset things so any of those problems should be fixed.
Here is the Apple info on reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
And here is the quote from the horse's mouth so to speak.
Factory default reset: Perform this reset if you wish to repurpose the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule and want to remove all personal profiles and settings first. This reset resets the device to its state when you first purchased it. Data stored on internal or external hard drives connected to the device will not be erased. If you choose, you may manually erase the hard drive using AirPort Utility.

Yes, I am connected to the Internet through my wifi. Everything is working fine with the e  eption of youtube.  I have reset all Internet settings and have tried synching to iTunes followed by rebooting.  This is all the advice I have found although none of it has been helpful.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

  • OSX 10.9 UBS would not recognize devices removed or ejected when re-connected without a reboot.

OSX 10.9 UBS would not recognize devices removed or ejected when re-connected without a reboot. First saw this with my Time Machine backup drive.  Ejected it to put it into a different USB port and Finder never saw it unless I rebooted.  Next it happened with my Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920. Skype recognized the device, but no video feed (audio microphone did work).  Unplugging and replugging the Webcam (and closing and restarting Skype) had the same result; had to reboot the computer (MacBook Pro Retina 15.4, 16 GB RAM) to get it to recognize the device.
Next had a meeting on another new MacBook Pro Retina 15.4 in our conference room hooked up to a 36 inch monitor and the same Logitec Webcam model (not the same device) connected directly into the MB Pro USB port; same exact problem as above.
    Any thoughts?

I have a powered USB 2 hub connected.  The problem remained whether or not the devices were plugged in directly or through the hub.  Beyond that, the camera is a USB 3 device...  Thanks, but any other thoughts?

  • I lose bluetooth connectivity with lion on iMac 21.5. Have to reboot to get it to work again.

Since upgrading to Lion on my iMac 21.5", once a week I lose bluetooth connectivity and have to reboot to get my keyboard and mouse to work.

Backup up your data from both, and as long as you used Bootcamp to install the Windows partition you should be fine.
If you used another method, or have more partitons on the drive than Bootcamp, DON'T upgrade to Lion, unless your prepared to rebuild the entire drive, install Lion from boot DVD's you make from the installer and so forth.
Google "Egg Freckles Lion boot DVD" for details also Google for "Make copies of Snow Leopard install disks"
Snow Leopard is stable, Lion has issues with older Mac hardware ranging from video to wifi to slow downs to radical UI changes.
With all the effort placed in setting up Windows and OS X, to do that all over again to take a chance that Lion won't work on your machine is a a lot of risk for little in return.
When Lion is stable then consider it, but right now it's not.
