Reset Default Permission On Drop Box?
Hi,
Suppose you've changed/altered the permission of your Drop Box, is there any way to restore them back to what they should be by default?
If you actually DELETE the Drop Box, will Leopard 10.5.2 automatically re-build it?
The Drop Box (~/Public/Drop Box) has "Write only (Drop Box)" privileges in the Privilege column of the Finder's Get Info dialog for everyone and for the "unknown" user. There is an unknown user and an unknown group on my 10.5.2 system. I don't know who they are.
The tiny unknown user icon in the Get Info dialog has a question mark on it. Is "(unknown)" showing up in the Name column of Get Info for your Drop Box?
You could create a throwaway account and then copy the created Drop Box folder into your public folder. Delete the account when you're done. Change the ownership of the Drop Box to your login id with Read & Write privilege if necessary. Get Info is your friend here.

How to set default value for drop down box in jsf
Hi,
Can anyone help me to set the default value in drop down box using <af:selectManyChoice> ?
As I know there is an unselectedLabel attribute in <af:selectOneChoice> but not valid attribute for <af:selectManyChoice>.
Any help must be appreciated.

Permission Problem with Group Drop Box in Dock
I THOUGHT I created write-only drop boxes for my students on their docks. They're able to drop their documents into it correctly, however, they can also open the group folder and see each others' folders by double clicking on it. I thought I had locked this down by setting the student permission to read-only in Sharing. How do I make the drop box write-only? I'm using OS X.3.9 Server.
iMac G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)Having the exact same problem here with MAC NFS server running Tiger. Mac clients work fine, but same user on a Linux NFS client ignores group permissions.

How to show "ALL" Values by default in Page Drop-Down Lists in Pivot Tables
Hi Everyone,
Iam stuck with 1 problem please can any 1 help me if u know the solution.
Here is my problem:
How to show "ALL" Values by default in Page Drop-Down Lists in Oracle BI Pivot Tables?
For example, if you place Region in the pages area, a Region drop-down list allows the user to select a particular region, and see the data for only that region, rather than seeing all the Regions,But by default its not showing "ALL" option in the drop down list ,rather than doing that its showing result for only 1 region by default.
And an other problem with this pages area is, if we palce the multiple attributes in the Pages area in the pivot table, the (Fields)result is showing in vertically, the attributes 1 by 1(Every attribute in a new line) ,rather than showing like that, is there any way to show the results in horizantally?(We want to have it as a seperate drop drown list for every field horizantally not as a concatenated list). Thanks Nikhil. But I am fetching the values from the LOVCache.java.
I am using <af:selectManyChoice>. Is there any way I can use LOVCache.java value for selecting default values instead of hard coding?
I mean to say can I write
unselectedLabel="#{LOVCache.entityTypeSelectionList.anyValue}"
where LOVCache.entityTypeSelectionList is used to populate the drop down box.

Can't delete file from my public drop box
Files were copied to my own drop box folder at ~/public/drop box/ and when I want to delete them it says it is locked. I can't unlock because I don't have permission. If I look at the permissions I see "fetching: custom, fetching: read and write, everyone: read only". The file is also locked and I can't unlock it. I tried using terminal to "sudo chmod" or "sudo chown" but it still says I don't don't have access. "ls -l" shows -rw-------+ 1 staff. "id" shows that I am a member of staff (uid=502(andrew) gid=20(staff) groups=20(staff)). OS is 10.10.1. What do I do now?
I managed to fix it. On the drop box folder itself I changed the permission for staff from write only to read & write and then applied to enclosed items.

I recently started using an iPad. I up loaded several apps. Evernote, cloudon, Goodreader, Drop Box and lots of others.
It crashes when I down load pictures and then try to use them. Converting a jpg to a pdf usually triggers a crash.
Is there a "hitch" in my "giddy up?"
Help.

Are you using the "Print to PDF" dialogue to convert your jpegs to pdf?
In addition to OT's test, you might also check, if using a different "Theme" for printing will avoid the crash:
14 com.apple.AppKit 0x912a52e4 _NSDrawThemeBackground + 1429
15 com.apple.AppKit 0x9145edeb -[NSThemeFrame
You crashlog shows, that iPhoto crashes, when trying to draw the "Print" theme background. There could be a problem wit the installed themes. Can you convert any jpegs to pdf, not only the jpegs downloaded from your iPad?

Can't copy files to network drop box
I'm running an Ubuntu server with netatalk (afp server) running and serving a couple afp shares. In one of the shares, I have a drop box directory that is owned by user "foo" and has group "bar". My Mac system username is "dude" and I also have a user named "dude" on the server. On the server, "dude" is a member of group "bar". The drop fox directory has permissions drwx-w----. The goal is to have a drop box that only "foo" on the server can read, but "dude" and other users in group "bar" can write to. I have other directories on the share with permissions drwxr-x--- foo:bar that "dude" and other users can read but not write to. In Mac OS X when I connect to the server as "dude" and try to copy a file to the drop box, I'm notified that I won't be able to see the copied file and then the copy fails with "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items." The files I am trying to copy are owned by my user and I tried changing their permissions to rw-rw-rw but no luck. I also tried adding +x for the group on the dropbox. I checked the netatalk configuration and there's no permission mask being applied to the share.
I had the same problem, but I managed to fix it.
In WGM check that the sharepoint of your users Home Folder is set to owner root with Read and Write permissions.
I also created an ard_admin group in WGM and enabled open directory management on the client Macs. (Page 62 of the ARD admin Guide.) -
Silly drop box question...
All the years, I've been using a mac, and I have not figured this out still, and today was the last straw on figuring it out. (thxs for the rant!)
Scenario : 2 macs in my home office, use dropbox in public folder to transfer files between 2 macs.
I presently have to use guest when dropping files to the other mac, which in turn states" You can put items into dropbox but you won't be able to see them."
Which works fine, but sometimes I want to see what's in the other drop box without having to go to the other computer.
However, If I click the " Connect as " button, it gives me a option as a guest, Which I am already doing and can not see when I drop files, or gives me a option as registered user, which is what I want to be.
For the life of me I can't figure this out. I have the name of the machine that wants to connect to the other machine, however no password. It's not the password that the mac uses as a default sign in password. It is also not "public."
Does the Password have to be assigned somewhere on each machine?
I've been in file sharing looking around and playing, but with no luck.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
AJThis page walks you through the entire process - I know you've already done some of this, but if you walk it through you may find a point at which either you've missed something or something is not working as it should.

I've just put a folder of photos in my wife's Drop Box.
When she tried to import the photos into iPhoto, all went swimmingly, except at the critical point, nothing happened.
It wasn't too hard to realise that what has happened is that the containing folder I dropped was given "Read" privilege in her Drop Box, but that none of the photos were - they were all "No Acccess".
Easily rectified, but is it anyone's opinion that this should be reported as a bug or do you think this (initially perplexing) behaviour is "correct"?
I'd welcome your opinions.
DerekHThe permissions of items added to the "Drop Box" normally won't be modified, with the exception of files copied over a network. Files added to a user's "Drop Box" locally *ie. one user to another) will retain their original permissions, so if the photos were originally "No Access" for users other than the owner, the recipient won't be able to access them, and this is normal behaviour. Normally, the onus is on the owner of the files to set permissions so that the recipient may access them.
What may not be normal in this case is that the permissions were "no access" at all - the default permissions for files created by a user in OS X usually allow at least "read" access for everyone, but that may depend on the source of the images...
If in fact you are referring to a situation where the files were transferred over the network, the ownership and permissions changes for items added to the "Drop Box" will only occurr if the folder appears as a "Drop Box" (ie. "write only") to the user adding the files. If the "Drop Box" folder's permissions have been changed, the permissions modification will not occur. Also, AFP / "Drop Box" behaviour has a history of being subject to glitches, and in earlier versions of "Tiger", there may have been an actual bug. If the problem is just a one-off glitch, restarting "Personal File" sharing, or sometimes rebooting, may be required for the situation to resolve itself. -
Hello all.How can I see what files are in my Drop box cache folder in Snow Leopard so that I can clean out the cache? Are there any other caches that I should clean out periodically? Is there a free program that will clean out my drop box files? What does the Drop Box cache do?What files go in it?
Yes, very strange. If you see a few posts up I actually did get it to work the way I need it to. I called Epson and they had ne reset the printer settings through the system preferences. On my first try this did NOT work, however everything worked as it should in Preview (another image program) and since it did work there the Epson tech basically siad then it's not their problem - most likely adobe.
However just for the hell of it after I hung up, I tried resetting the printer settings again and sure enough it worked. I was able to change the color settings while using Photoshop to manage colors - namely I needed to print a B&W through the Advanced B&W setting. When they are grayed out I can't do this. But even while doing color I don't like that it's grayed out. I've been printing both color and B&W for the last 5-7 years with photosjop manageing colors. I know about double profiling and how to avoid it.
If this was by design from adobe, it deosn't make sense that I was able to access it a few weeks ago after resetting the printer settings. And if this was the case when did Adobe supposedly make the change?
I don't know what's different now, the only thing I can figure is that I had this issue sometime after I installed the lastest Epson print driver - hence the call to Epson... Maybe it's snow leopard weirdness, but I had snow leopard on my laptop and was always able to print sucessfully, but have not tried it since I got the new Mac Pro.
And the strange thing it works fine on other programs. I can have photoshop manage colors and they are not grayed out. Strange and frustrating. Time to set up the DR.
I guess I shoud uninstall PS and then try re-installing it.
thanks... -
Im trying to open an indesign file from drop box, and getting the message that the file is missing. Others have no problem with these files. Help?
I'm using Windows 8.1.
ThanksI don’t know how to tell if file is synced properly, or what that means.
I am trying to open the file from Dropbox.
To collaborate on a project with remote users via Dropbox you have to share a folder inside of the local Dropbox folder. So on OSX it works like this:
Make a folder inside of your local Dropbox folder—the default Dropbox folder is at the top level of your user folder.
Make sure the Dropbox application is running.
Control or right-click the folder you want to share and choose Share Folder. That will open a dialog in your browser where you can enter the email address of the user you want to share with. You have to know the email they use with their Dropbox account.
When the invitation is accepted the folder and contents will be duplicated and sync'd in their local dropbox folder. Now you both have read write access to the folder and its contents—you never have to go the the Dropbox webpage to make edits. Any linked files you add to the layout have to be in the shared folder or their status will show as missing to the other users.
In other words if you and I share an ID file in a dropbox folder, I open the layout and place a linked file from somewhere else on my drive you'll see it as missing.

I have inadvertently deleted or misplaced my drop box so that I can pick up stuff I am doing on my laptop and finish it downstairs on my IMAC. I did a permission verify and fix... but I am wondering where in the branch off files where should it be placed.
A side note.. I have mobile me - but the file part is no longer there .. it's all email and then setting.. what have I don't wrong. If I put things in my "Public" folder and go on via internet I can find it that way.
running macbookpro - early 2008 (use upstairs all the time due to inability to walk)
when I get downstairs Intel IMAC where I have more hard drive to work on pics etc.Open the /Home/Public/ folder then press COMMAND-SHIFT-N to open an untitled folder. Rename it to "Drop Box" without quotes.

Drop Box can't secure connection
Please help i have drop box but it's not working i have parent controls on but fixed the ip issue, any help please?
Each computer has it's own user "ID", lets call them iMac and Mac Air
Example of problem... on Mac Air computer in Finder, Favorites, there is Drop Box.
I put a file into there.
From my iMac (different computer), I connect to Finder, Shared, Mac Air, Public Folder, Drop Box... click on Drop box and get message.
I also try to drop the file into my Finder, iMac, Shared, Public Folder, Drop Box on my Mac Air... and still get message when I try to retreive the file on my iMac, Public Folder, etc...
Im not sure what it takes to gain permission on my own computers... with the same passwords set... the file sharing checked (in System Prefrences)... and users iMac/Mac Air included under users.
Thanks for your help. -
Script for copying files to drop boxes of other Macs
I don't know much about scripts as yet, but for daily backup purposes
I would like to copy all new or modified files from various folders
to the drop boxes of two other Macs (like the old DOS command XCopy)
and then reset the "modified attributes" (is there something like that at all?)
of these files.
A script could do this without the need to always find and select these files
and to always confirm the messages "You can put items into “Drop Box”,
but you won’t be able to see them. Do you want to continue?".
Thanks! Here is a short skeleton which doesn't treat subfolders.
May you check if it do what you want ?
