Reset Did not Erase 1st Backup

Like everyone else there are many initial hiccups. My first backup was done wirelessly. After firmware upgrade everything went to ****.
So I did a rollback on firmware and did a reset. Bought a ethernet cable as advised by many that it is faster and hook it up.
After some hassle, I could find and mount the TC but to my surprise the first and initial backup remains in the TC after
firmware rollback and a reset. Any one has experienced this?
Questions:
1) How do I find out if the subsequent backup are done wirelessly or through the ethernet cable? I have both hooked up. Does Time Machine automatically switches between the two if one is unhooked?
2) Do I have to set "Port Forwarding" in the Linksys router in order for the rest of the computer in the network to read the Mac and the TC? If so, what are the Port numbers?

Try launching AU to get the system to see the TC ,go thru the manual or other setup and look into TC from there. You should be able to highlite backups to delete, then choose the disc tab and try erasing from there? quick or secure, secure takes quite a bit longer, keep us posted.

I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup either locally or on the cloud. Much of the music is from old vinyl and podcasts which are no longer available.
How can I get the music that resides on my ipod nano (4th generation) back onto the new hard drive on my pc.
I have been reluctant to install iTunes on the new hard drive out of fear that I will lose all the contents on the ipod if I try to synch to the new hard drive.
    Help!

No backup is a huge mistake.

No, they probably got lost out there somewhere. They're gone.

Hello, your best bet would be to clone your drive to an external drive, which will be bootable.

    You need to restore.
Everything should be on your computer, so you can just sync it back.

I backup to an external hdd with Time Machine, when it ran out of space it did not delete old backups, now my internal hdd says its full when before it had heaps of space. I have searched for extra files but cant find any. Can anyone help, please.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

    Hi Melissa,
    Pretty strange, but...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, does it happen in Safe Mode? Reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Time Machine does not erase old backups

    Hi,
I have a problem using Time Machine on my MacBook Air. I use a LaCie 500GB Rugged All-Terrain Hard Drive for backup. The external drive has 3 partitions, one of which is dedicated to time machine and measures 128 Gb. It happens very often that I receive an error message saying that Time Machine cannot complete backup as there is not enough space and that I should manually remove old backups. Time Machine is supposed to do that automatically. The backup partition is of the same size as the internal flash drive which is not even full so I don't see why there should be a problem.
I also have a MacMini with an external Iomega drive and same setup (3 partitions on the external drive and the Time Machine dedicated one of the same size as the internal drive) and I never had an issue with the Time Machine not erasing old backups to make room for the new ones.
How can I fix the problem on the MacBook Air?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Igor

How much space is currently in use on the volume TM is backing up from? If it needs to do a large backup for some reason, there may not be space to do so without deleting so much that you are left with less than a full backup. TM needs the backup drive to be a minimum of 2-3 times larger than what is being backed up.

  • HT5661 I traded my phone in at Verizon yesterday. I did not erase all my info. Should I be worried.

I traded in my iPhone4 yesterday at Verizon. I did not erase any content. Should I be worried?

Did they ask for the passcode? I take it that they most likely would have needed it in order to re-sell it.
Did you set up Find My iPhone, before trading it in?
Unfortunately it now poses a security and privacy risk,a s the data has not been erased and restored to its factory settings.
You may have to call them about the issue.

I got it to work by enabling cookies in safari settings and turning off private browsing. Cookies are probably the key thing here. Accept button will appear at bottom right of first screen of agreement.

The password reset did not seem to work as I keep receiving that the password or login info is incorrect...

Did you receive the pasword reset email and reset it through there? If you have you need to remember that there must be a capital letter and a number atleast once in the new password

  • My hard drive crashed. I slaved the old drive, but did not make a backup of my bookmarks. how can I transfer my bookmarks from the old drive to the new one?

My original hard drive was replaced due tom multiple errors. Before it crashed completely, I installed a new hard drive and slaved the old one to allow me to access the data and transfer it to the new one. I did not backup the bookmarks. How can I pull the old bookmarks from the old drive to the new installation drive???

Since you said you were able to transfer the data from your old drive to the new one, you probably still have the old Firefox Profile. Please read this article to see if it helps:

If the signal strength indicator is not showing then you are not connected to a WiFi access point.
What do you mean by the "reset fix"?
To give any help it is necessary to know a lot more:
What make/model of router do you have?
How is it configured? DHCP, MAC filtering enabled, etc.
What sort of security are you using on your network? WEP, WPA, WPA2?
If you are able to connect then you can touch the ">" to the right of your network name to see the details of the connection. If you can do this provide all the information you see there.
    Good luck.
