Reset, hdd led etc. switches for MSI K9N6GM mobo

Can anyone tell me which of these (and the other HDD etc) connectors go to which pins?  Or tell me where I can find out?  There are three banks (I think that's them, they're in the usual place for these on other boards and there's nowhere else they can go) 4, 5, and 4 pins in the rows.  The speaker connector has 4 sockets (but only two wires) so I guess that is one of the rows.  Other than that I can't tell.  They don't seem to be numbered but between this bank and a single three pin jumper is the word 'USB C/D'.
Also, where is the FAN 1 position?  (not so important perhaps, I've found FAN 2)  Should the fan run when the unit is plugged into the main (no switch for mains on the unit), but without the reset etc. buttons above being connected?  It does!
Sorry to be long winded, thanks in advance for the help,
Schoonerman.

Judging from what you're asking you must be missing the manual.
Exactly which model MB is that one as I don't find it listed? Look between the PCI slots for the model name & number. That's not an OEM MB for a Compaq or some such thing is it?
Edit: Best guess at this time is this one:

  • What does an orange HDD LED signify?

I got a dv6t-6100 a few days ago, and have had some problems with it.
Twice now when opening the laptop (it should have been asleep) I have found it blue screened.
The most recent time, Windows booted to recovery mode because it was unable to start after I powered it off.  I let it run though (though didn't let it make any changes) and all the while, the HDD LED was orange.  Luckily it rebooted cleanly the next time, and still the HDD LED was orange for probably 10 or 20 minutes.
I've read two types of responses to this - the first that it means the drive is spun down because it thinks its falling, and the second that this indicates a motherboard failure.  Which is correct?  The laptop was perfectly still the whole time it was rebooting.  Note that none of the included utilities show errors with the hard drive.

I cannot find a service guide for that model, are you sure it is the HDD led?

  • MSI X58 Pro: HDD LED does not work for S-ATA drive

    Hi,
I've got a problem with my brand new MSI X58 Pro: I've got an S-ATA HDD (Samsung 640GB) and an S-ATA DVD drive (Pioneer) installed in a Compucase 6X Miditower. There is NO(!) IDE drive. I don't get the HDD LED to work! I've tried everything including a BIOS update to 7.1 - the LED stays out.
I found some reports in the internet from people having a similar problem: no HDD LED for S-ATA drive activity.
Is there anybody else having this problem? Isn't that possible in general? Is that a problem of the board? The HDD drive?
    Greetings,
    Michael

You are talking about the status LED on your case, right?
    - Is it properly connected to the right pins on the correct header?
    - Double-check for +/- pins and make sure the plug is not connected the wrong way.
    - Make sure, the LED is not defective.
    - Make sure the cables are not defective.
    - Make sure there is no problem with the pin-plug to the board.

  • Solutions for hard to see HDD LED

I was looking for some easier ways to see the hard drive activity since HP has moved the HDD LED to the left or right side of the newer laptops.  I really hate not being able to always see what the hard drive is doing since the change in placement of the HDD light.  Every laptop I've ever had or worked with has had the HDD LED on top of the base which is a whole lot easier to see than on the side.  I'm currently using a free program called DiskLED which puts a light in the system tray which can show a huge selection of items including the HDD but only one at a time.  It seems to be very accurate and can be configured to update as fast as you want.  I'm still looking for other options that would allow me to have a physical LED that would be viewable from above the keyboard like it was on my previous HP laptop.  If anyone know of an easy, cheap fix I would love to know what that is.  Thanks

There was a useful blend mode in MacOS 9 and Carbon called "AddOver" that could be used to get high contrast shapes over any background, in a reversible way (great for cursors, paths, etc.).  Even on Windows, we can emulate that blend mode.
In Cocoa, Apple doesn't offer that blend mode, nor a way to handle reversible compositing beyond what we are already doing (difference blend mode).
We have been investigating ways to do better path drawing using OpenGL shaders, but didn't have a solution in time for CS5 (it's not as easy as it sounds).

  • MSI 875 Pro Neo FIS2R - HDD-LED doesn`t work

    Hello,
yesterday I got my new MSI 875 Pro Neo FIS2R.
Installation of motherboard and Windows XP went without any problem. So I`m very satisfied with this Board.
But now I noticed, that the HDD-LED doesn`t show any activity.
Then I turned around the HDD-LED plug of the Case with again no success: The HDD-LED doesn`t shine...
    My (IDE-)storage-components are:
    Primary Master: NEC DVD-ROM
    Primary Slave: NEC DVD-RW
    2 x WD Raptor (SATA) as RAID0 (ICH5R)
Is there anything wrong ? What can I do ??

I already tried turning around the cable, but it didn`t help.
Therefore I was asking myself, why the HDD-LED didn`t show any LED activities at all (DVD-ROM should work)...

    Hello Maesus,
yes, I read your reply. But it didn`t answer my question, why HDD-LED don`t show any DVD-ROM activities (remember, DVD-ROM is IDE-primary master and DVD-RW is primary slave)...

  • Switch Radeon 9600Pro for MSI 5900 SP(XT) ????

Is it smart to switch my Club3D Radeon 9600Pro for
    MSI 5900SP 128MB Vivo video card ????
I have Athlon XP 2000+ (overclocked to 2,2 GHz)
    2x256 DDR RAM
    MSI K7NF2 motherboard
    I have 11500 marks in 3DMark 2001SE (default 1024x768)
    and 3300 marks in 3Dmark 2003 (default 1024x768)
I can overclock it to 450/700 MHz (stable) and littel mor fo unstable.
I hear that I can overclock 5900 SP(XT) very good and that performance are much better.
Can I have much better performance in games with MSI 5900SP(XT), than I have with Radeon 9600Pro ?

The FX   card will outperform those 9600 or any other you mention.. and you wont have to overclock the card to do it... My roomate has the newer one 256 meg 9600 from radeon and my fx5900XT Kills it.. dead .. the higher the rez the more badly it kills .. we are both using Barton XP2800 and 512 ram .. Im running an Nforce 2 NB my roomates is the KT400a ultra.. and hes got serial raid... pretty even testing ground id say....

  • [nForce] msi k7n2delta ilsr hdd led not work

hi guys, well there is not much to say only that my hdd led not work, rarely i put attention on it, but just when i see... is gone... sniiiff.. i tryed change the led, invert cables, and the raid controller has nothing to do with this issue, sometime ago i have power issues, and during those times the led suddenly "wake up" , then i change the psu, and hdd, now i have sata hdd, and somebody told me the led not work with the 3· ide or sata, culd be the data cable
    thanks

"...yes yes i know that, right now using sata i know the hdd led not work, but when i-m using ide drive either, thas wy i saying may be the ide cable.thanks..." That's not what you said in your first post. IF IDE HDD works (even if HDD led doesn't work) then IDE cable should be OK. Perhaps HDD light case/mobo connection has a problem.

  • My 790fx GD70 had approx 3 years of perfect operation, now the HDD led is red :(

Hey everyone I'm new to the msi forums here, but I built a gaming rig about 3 years ago and its been running fantastic ever since.
Ive been looking to buy an Radeon 7950 and finally decided on the HIS 7950 IceQ boost clock from newegg for 299.
So I opened up the case just to make 100% sure that I had the necessary 2- 6 pin power connectors, which I did . I did this while the pc was on (I know dont shoot me!) I didn't touch anything on board just a few wires from the psu to look at the connectors, an my hand slighty bushed the side intake fan, no stoppage or anything like that.
When I looked up after I put the couple wires back I had no display, no keyboard or mouse, and the red HDD led was lit above the mobo power button :( :(.
Ive checked all connections and they seems to be fine, my brother has the same board in his rig, so ill take a pic of his and double check mine just to be totally sure.
The pc powers up with either the case or mobo buttons, all fans (cpu, psu, case, gpu) power up and run normally. All lights are blue that I can see, except for the red HDD led, no display, keyboard, or mouse. Also I cant power the system down by holding down either case or mobo buttons, only by switching the psu off.
After reading up on this forum and a couple others ive come to a couple possible conclusions:
Either something came unplugged which ive some how missed, my mobo has shorted somehow after approx 3 years of perfect operation, or my psu has blown.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for me? Has anyone seen something like this happen before?
The tough thing is this pc is currently used for music recording through pro tools and was about to become the main media display pc at my church, after the purchase of the new video card, so having it down meant no music recording today at church :( :(
    System Specs:
    AMD phenom II x4 955
    MSI 790fx gd70
    Asus Radeon 5750
    Mushkin Redline 1600mhz 4x2
    Crucial SSD 120gb
    Seagate 150gb HDD
Western Digital 1tb HDD (pro tools session storage)
    LG CD/DVD RW
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give!
By the way I wrote all that on my phone! Lol

Thanks for all the help so far you guys!! Ok so i spent some more time on it and did what you both suggested. Reseated the ram, 2 sticks of 4 gb 1600 mushkin, made sure that all satas were seated properly on both the mobo and HDD sides, and checked all power connections to the board. After that i cleared cmos, and pulled the battery just to be sure.  I checked the case pwr and reset connections on the front of the case and at the mobo, and everything seems to match my brothers board connections (went and took a few pics of his). I also moved my gpu up to the top slot of the mobo so i could see the little led screen on the mobo better.
So i fired her back up, and the dang red light was still on :-(. Also the little led screen isnt post anything at all, no numbers or letters are showing. I believe my brothers read 42 when i was taking pics of his rig (must be the code for all-is-well lol).
My psu is an 850 watt Xion. For  + 12v1 and +12v2 its 18A for +12v3 and +12v4 it reads 20A and 22A respectively.
I dont see xions around much anymore, did they go out of business or something?
So do you guys think its probably the mobo since its not giving a display at the little led screen? Did it just happen to blow when i had the side panel off, could i have done something without touching the board to cause this? Maybe handling the wires? Could it possibly be the psu?
It looks like i may be in for an earlier mobo and cpu upgrade then i had originally planned :-P
Oh also my case is a full tower Azza, im not sure of the model, but its always had great cooling! (But i dont overclock lol)
    Thanks so much again!

  • HDD LED fixed and staring, DKA790GX

New system, DKA790GX in a Cooler Master HAF 932 case.  Case has two, bright blue LEDs on the front panel for power and HDD activity.  The HDD LED is on constantly.  When I switch the connector is if off constantly.
Any ideas?  Manual, and M-connector, says it should be pins 1 and 3 on header JFP1, with pin 1 being positive.

@Bas - well, my manual, the m-connector, and the Quick Guide all show pins 1 and 3 as the HDD LED.  Looking "face on" with the blank as the top most right position, pins 1 & 3 are the leftmost two on the bottom row. I switched them as you suggested just in case, but no change.
@Henry - I don't have any indication of another problem.  The OS and all other s/w has installed fine.  I can't actually hear the HD spinning, so I guess it is possible it is constantly accessing *shrug*.
Unless...this is my gaming rig, and I went straight to Windows 7 Beta.  The MSI Live Update utility crashes, so I've updated my BIOS to 1.60 using Bas and Bosskiller's method using a USB Key et al.  Perhaps I am missing some other updates or drivers?

  • My Review for MSI Big Bang Xpower & Overclocked

This will be the very 1st X58 big bang series of MSI and the 1st X58 MSI motherboard to have USB 3.0 and SATA 3 connections. Targets the enthusiast, hardcore gamers as well as overclockers. This board is already equipped with OC Genie buttons which was first implemented for MSI P55 series motherboards. YOu will also see later that instead of the old power, reset and Direct OC Easy Buttons. They are all now soft touch. PCI slots were also removed and been replaced by PCIEx16. There will be x6 PCIEx16 slots for this board ready for multi gpu setups. Military Class Components are also implemented into the board like Solid Caps, better chokes and server grade caps.
Here you will see that the components around the socket area are well layout and very good in quality. These are Hi-C Cap on PWM and super ferrite chokes. Im sure this will provide the best efficient voltage to the processor during normal use and as well as during overclocking. See the two 8pin power connector for the Processor? This will provide more headroom for overclocking the processor especially for Gulftowns
Forgot to mention other things like The board has V-Check points to measure actual voltage for CPU Vcore, VTT, DDR and IOH. Debug led indicator for easy isolation of boot up problems or mobo problems. Jumper for removing voltage wall limits and lastly the board includes an audio card for best audio experience.
So next these are the rear ports
Bundled Accessories. Sata cables, Sata power, IDE cable, USB 2.0 Bracket, eSATA Pack, M-Connectors, V-check Cables and a great gadget for overclocking the board on the fly "OC Dashboard" (shows also the current temps, and voltages)
For some serious 2D Bench Results and overclock on air
    First run. 4.6ghz Spi32M
    Second run. 4.8ghz Spi32m

  • The HDD LED doesn't work !! Any Idea ?

    Hi everyone ..
I have MSI Neo Platinum Mainboard , I installed a S-ATA Harddisk only on the Mainboard , no ATA , but the HDD LED on the Case doesn't work .. There is no Light ... Is this light only for ATA Harddisks wich are installed on IDE ??
    Any idea plz ?

Exactly...reverse the polarity at the connection....or your HDD activity LED is toast...I've bought new cases where those things just did not work.

  • Apple TV reseting/blinking leds issues since 5.0.1

I'm hoping someone else here is having similar issues to me as I cannot work out what the problem is.
I have an Apple TV 2 which failed during the 5.0.1 update so I just used iTunes to do a restore and everything worked ok.  A few days later it started to behave oddly.  Every other day it would just stop working.  It would appear to reset itself but it didn't come back on screen, just a black screen.  So a quick power off and on again and it worked for another day or so.  This continued for a few weeks and the update to 5.0.2 was applied without any issues but the problem carried on.
As the ATV2 is out of warranty and the crashing was so random I presumed the device was maybe faulty so I bought a brand new Apple TV 3.  All was well but after a few days it also started to show the same issue.  It resets every few days and ends up with the led slowly blinking for about 10 minutes, then it fast blinks for about 10 minutes, then slow blinks again, and then sometimes a solid light but nothing on screen.  A power off and on again and everything works again.
So now, I'm presuming it's maybe either a software issue, or a network issue.
So far I have tried WiFi, wired ethernet, non Apple router, Apple Extreme router, restoring both devices.  Everything I try doesn't fix this issue and it's quite annoying.
    Anyone else having similar issues?
    Anyone got any suggestions?
Can I look at any logs on the Apple TV that might indicate where the issue lies?
My iTunes library is on an iMac and it's on most of the day, switched off over night.
    Cheers, Neil

OK, I now have both Apple TVs set up, one is connected to the TV, one isn't.  I will monitor to see what happens.
Hopefully I will be able to determine if the problem only occurs when connected to a tv and also if the problem is triggered at the same time on both devices which could suggest an iTunes or network issue.
I'll post back when I have any further information.
Back to my first post though, is there no way to see logs that might suggest an HDMI issue?
Another thing is that I control the Apple TV using a TiVo remote learned on the Apple TVs if that can interfere at all.

  • Newish LED goes black (for split seconds)

    Hello,
A few months ago I got a new LED 24" display for my early 2007 MacPro. Until a couple of days ago it was working fine with the Geffen adapter. Internet was via airport only. Then a few days ago--after getting aggravated for the 100 time with all the interference here-- I decided to connect via ethernet. (The cable runs from the airport to the MacPro). Since I did that the display has been acting weird. While online, from time to time the display would go all black for a split second. Nothing reloads when it comes back; so it doesn't seem to be a downloading issue. It seemed to be getting worse--and was happening while not online-- so I disconnected the ethernet cable, reset the network prefs, and am now back on wireless. But, the display is still doing its weird black out thing. It's getting me pretty worried (way way way too much money spent on computer problems in the last few months). Display problem? A conflict? Something with the power supply? Don't know why, but the ethernet switch seems to have triggered it. Only other issue I can think of is that I had to turn off the UPS for awhile while I was setting it all up.
    Thanks for any information.
    Jen

I'm having the same problem. 2.8 GHz Aluminum iMac, started last week to black screen for about 1 sec about every two days, duration slowly getter higher each time, just now blackscreen lasted about 6 secs. Mouse wiggle, keyboard press, doesn't bring it back. I've kept a log and I'm never using the same program when it happens. It's disappointing thinking it might be a hardware problem. Internal temps are running as follows in °F:
    HD - 121
    CPU - 104
    Airport - 140
    GPU - 128
    GPU Heatsink - 124
