Reset "international language" in system preferences?

hi
on one of my client macs is a really funny display of:
http://www.usz.tu-darmstadt.de/images/Fotos/bildersportangebot/bild%202.jpg
normally it should look like this:
http://www.askdavetaylor.com/1-blog-pics/mac-system-preferences-international-in put-menu.png
what can i do to repair this client? is there an ability to delete a com.apple.language.plist or something like that?
thanks!
mac monnem

thats the point! that doenst all doesnt work!
1. it should look like that: http://www.askdavetaylor.com/1-blog-pics/mac-system-preferences-international-in put-menu.png
but it looks like that: http://www.usz.tu-darmstadt.de/images/Fotos/bildersportangebot/bild%202.jpg
2. if i try to change in the input menu to choose only german or in the language menu ( http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/BPInternational/Artic les/art/intlprefpane.gif ) to change to germat, respectivly, it only works till the next restart.
3. the panel in the input menu to choose character palette / japanese kana palette / keyboard viewer NEVER appears.
thats why i asked for a way to reset the complete international prefane, that it looks like factory setting.

  • Lost french language for system preferences and lost finder's help

My first installation of Leopard failed on my Macbook pro (blude screen). Made another installation (keeping old system). It worked. but now I have two problems and do not find solutions.
1- All my system preferences panels are in english even though I choose french as th first language in "international". All was in french in my previous system (10.4)
2- also, each time I want to use finder's help it crashes.
should I reinstall 10.5? Is this a known issue?
otherwise everything runs fine on my Macbook pro

    Welcome to the Apple boards.
It's not a known issue, it's probably not an issue per se. A failed install creates many "issues" that have to be addressed before going further.
Your Archive and Install most likely archived a bad install and when the migration occurred, these errors migrated into your new system.
I am not sure how much on your original system you have backed up, but you may be faced with having to do an erase and install in order to get rid of what is most likely a bad archive.
The first failure means that there was something wrong with your original system or hardware. Since it's running, sort of, your hardware is probably OK.
Did you first perform a disk check and permissions verify/repair? That's very important before installing a new OS or upgrading.
The help is crashing most likely because of the language issue.
Before reinstalling from scratch, I would suggest waiting for at least a second opinion on this. There may be some way to resurrect your system without completely trashing it and starting over.
It might be as simply as retrieving the proper language apps etc from the DVD using a tool known as Pacifist, but there I cannot help you.

  • Networks icon no longer in system preferences

networks icon no longer in system preferences, should it still be there when using Lion, or is it under something else?

Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library"/Then go to Caches and delete com.apple.preferencepanes
Then still in Library go to Preferences folder and delete com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Then relaunch System Preferences. You may have to reset some of your System Preferences.

  • Start Up Disk Icon No Longer In System Preferences?

Having searched through the forum, I think this may be a first. My wife has an iMac, bought just before the new models came out. I have installed Snow Leopard and everything works fine. We set up BootCamp so she can play Aeon but after about 6 weeks we noticed that the Icon in System Preferences (under System) called Startup Disk has vanished. This means that in order to restart in Windows she has to reboot and use the Options key to access Windows. While it is not that much of a problem, I can not figure out where the Icon went.
Anyone got any bright ideas please?

Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library"/Then go to Caches and delete com.apple.preferencepanes
Then still in Library go to Preferences folder and delete com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Then relaunch System Preferences. You may have to reset some of your System Preferences.

  • Icon in System Preferences is... dead?

I've got one of the newer Macbooks. Because I was a n00b and didn't realize that Bootcamp was the replacement for Virtual PC, I tried to install VPC and the installer seemed to leave something behind.
    http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m52/drgnkiyo/random/iconbork.jpg
Also, it installed Deja Vu and I can't figure out how to uninstall it. I put Deja Vu into Spotlight, and it came up with a .pkg file along with the system preferences entry, I was able to move the .pkg into the trash but not the prefs one.
So yea... how can I get this icon back to normal? It shows up fine in the View dropdown list.
    Thanks!
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

For your light switch icon trouble:
    Navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Delete these 2 files and relaunch System Preferences. You may have to reset some of your System Preferences.
As for DejaVu just option-click or right-click on it and choose "remove prefence pane"

  • System Preferences unexpectedly quits

    G'day people
I have my iMac set-up to display both English and Greek through the "International" settings in System Preferences(SP). The order it's is in Greek then British English.
I removed British English from the list as I wanted the whole operating environment to be in Greek. However, in addition to removing it making no difference and everything is still in English (except for date and time), when I try and go back into SP I get the unexpected quits pop-up and I can't figure out how to fix it.
I tried restoring the SP icon (and its package contents) from a time machine backup but that made no difference. Has anybody else had this problem?
Here is a paste of the report in case it means something to someone!
    Please help....
    Thanks

  • Languages & International System Preferences + Acrobat 6.0.1

Everytime I try to open Acrobat 6.0.1 on my Mac, I get an error window stating that the language set isn't supported by this version of Acrobat and to change it in International System Preferences.  I've gone into System Preferences, International and verified English is the language selected.  I've gone so far as to delete other languages from my preferences and I still get the same error!  I have a PDF that needs pages to be extracted to jpgs and I don't know of another way to do this without Acrobat!  If someone knows how to fix my Acrobat issue OR how I can extract my PDF pages to jpgs, I'd welcome help on either topic!

Have you tried removing Acrobat and reinstalling?  I am actually very surprised that Acrobat 6.0 is functioning in 10.5.8.  I had to do quite a bit of digging but I did find the system requirements for Acrobat 6 Professional and they are as follows:
    PowerPC® G3 processor
    Mac OS X v.10.2.2
    64MB of RAM (128MB recommended)
    405MB of available hard-disk space
    1,024 x 768 monitor resolution
    CD-ROM drive

  • HT2529 This morning Voice Over started running on my computer, but when I go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES/INTERNATIONAL ACCESS the Voice Over option is off, so I turned it on and then off, but it's still on.  What else can I do to make it stop?

This morning Voice Over started running on my computer when I turned it on.  I did not turn Voice Over.  Could I have hit a combination of keys on the keyboard that accidentally turned it on?  When I went to System Preferences and chose Internation Access it showed that Voice Over was not even on.  I turned it on and turned it off to reset it, and it is still running.  How is this possible, and how to I get rid of it?
    Trumpeter

I went to System Preferences, Universal Access, and then VoiceOver for the fiftieth time after you said to check VoiceOver Utility to see if I saw anything odd.  On The VoiceOver screen it was actually saying that VoiceOver was on.  All day the VoiceOver option was off, and the computer talked to me everytime I logged in.  I tried turning it on and off and it still talked to me.  Now the VoiceOver option was on, so I turned it off again. Weird! I had tried several combinations of keys again and again as the tech instructed me to do, but we couldn't turn it off, but I have to admit that after my phone went dead I tried everything I could imagine; so maybe in trying to turn the talking off I turned the VoiceOver Option on. Anyway, somewhere along the way it quite talking to me.
Let me ask you a couple of questions.  When I clicked on VoiceOver Utility, after turning VoiceOver off, the screen message says: Speak the following greeting after login:  Welcome to Mac OSX.  VoiceOver is running. I was assuming that it meant VoiceOver was running.  That is what it is saying right now.   It's not talking to me anymore, but the screen says this whether the VoiceOver icon is on or off.  What is this all about.  Is it telling me that Voice Over is still running when I see this, or what?  After all, even when the OFF icon was chosen the computer still spoke to me when I hit each key upon logging in.  After you read the rest of this you will understand why I am asking if it is still running even though it's not talking to me.
There is a box that appears and says "Portable Preferences for (Jane Doe) have been detected on (JaneDoe).  Would you like to use them?    Always Use   /  No  /   Yes      What does that mean?
Last but not least. I was looking around and was clicking on Application, Documents, etc.  When I clicked on Documents, only four things came up even though there are tons of documents on my computer.  All four of them have to do with VoiceOver, and they were labeled as documents.  One of the documents had this in it:
    SCRConfiguration Cursor Tracking KBToVO
    SCRConfiguration Cursor Tracking VOToTXT
    SCRConfiguration Cursor Tracking VOToKB
I'm not a computer genius, so maybe I just don't know what I'm looking at.  Is it normal for something like this to be found under documents?  All of these were dated today, and the problems started today. I haven't gone to bed yet, so even though it's after midnight it's still the same day to me.  Anyway, none of the documents were dated before this problem started.  On top of that, I have tons of documents on my computer, but when I clicked on Documents, those four are the only ones that showed up.  After trying to decipher the programming language on them, I went to click on Applications and hit Documents again, and all the documents came up.  I scanned the list and didn't see them, but there are so many documents on here that I haven't had time to slowly go over them to see if I missed those four documents somehow. Since then I haven't been able to get just those four to appear by themselves again.
Now, is it possible that I still have a hacker and he knows through a key logger everything I am communicating to you and the Apple Store,  Maybe he did made a mistake and accidentally caused this problem, and through logging every key I have typed he has learned about his mistake and fixed it.  He could still be key logging me now without me knowing it; or maybe he removed the keylogger, because he know I'm taking it in to the Apple Store and can tell them now exactly what to look for.
It is either a hacker, or I have a very vivid imagination.  What do you think?

  • When I go "system preferences" "sound" There is no option to activate the internal speakers. How do I restore it?

When I go "system preferences" "sound" There is no option to activate the internal speakers. How do I restore it?

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and a red light is coming from it, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    3. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones.
    4. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    5. Reset the NVRAM.
    6. Reset the SMC.
    7. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    8. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

What happened to the "International" System Preference in 10.9.4? I want to add the diacritical marks to Vietnamese words. How can I do this in Mavericks?

That was changed to Language and Region with 10.7  3 years ago.
In Mavericks 10.9, go to system prefs/keyboard/input sources and use the plus and add buttons to activate the Vietnamese keyboard.  Use Keyboard Viewer to see which key does what.  Or do Edit > Special Characters (or command-control-space) to bring up the Character Viewer.

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

    MacBook Pro model?
Hard to suggest a solution without knowing the model.
The following tips may not apply to latest MacBook Pro 13 inch model.

        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones

Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup

  • Appearance Options in System Preferences occasionally resetting

Im running SL 10.6.4 and I have recently reinstalled the software hoping it would solve this issue but unfortunately hasn't. To simply describe it, by Appearance settings reset themselves to the default values and open and newly opened programs revert to the original settings.
I have my settings set up as follows: http://cl.ly/4d404f458333c202d447
And when it resets itself, it reverts to the following (with all programs changing too): http://cl.ly/06aa37a267d41044d7b2
Interestingly enough, every time it happens, I catch this message in the Console:
System Preferences[9952]: .scriptSuite warning for result type of command 'timedLoad' in suite 'SystemPreferences': the type NSNumber ('long') doesn't match the result Apple event code ('doub').
Does anyone kno what error is concurring? And does anyone know of a way to possibly fix it? I reset my PRAM and delete the System Preferences plist in addition to re-installing SL, hoping it was a corrupted Preference file, but that didn't work either.

Open a new account to see if the issue appears there.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select *Disk Utility.*
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
    Click _*Repair Disk.*_
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

  • Help Problem NOT Solved Why have my system preferences suddenly started to reset back to default every time I reboot

Why have my system preferences suddenly started to reset back to default every time I reboot At first I thought it was happening because I disconnected my Google account, but now I've disable that account and switched to Firefox.  I wasn't sure how my browser setting could have anything to do with my system preferences and now I think it's some glitch or missed setting that is causing the problem.  Oh & I locked my preference panel and that did not help.
In addition to what I say above, not only are all my system preferences being reset to default, but also the preferences for word and Excel.  I'm sure it's affecting other programs, but Word & Excel are the main ones that I have a lot of custom setting for.  Especially annoying is the fact that my ribbon commands are reset.  All this started happening when I signed up for a Google Drive account.  The only system updates have been the usual security updates.  I deleted my Google account but haven't uninstalled it.  I'll try this, but I can't figure out how that would result in all OS preferences being reset.

  • How can I reset new password in .mac system preferences?

...so that I can upgrade to MobileMe. When I type in my new password and hit Enter, or click over to Sync, it insists on remembering the old password, and then I can't sync. The odd thing is, when I enter the new password into .Mac preferences I get "thanks for being a member" and the days remaining on my account. The new password also works to log me in online, but I can't change system preferences to perform the upgrade to MobileMe. The old .Mac link to iCal works--the info is up to date--but the MobileMe calendar, contacts, bookmarks, etc have no data.. Any ideas?
