  • Firefox reset completely, attempted to restore old Firefox data, will not open saying that profile could not be loaded.

    Hello,
When returning to my computer, I attempted to open Firefox and received a prompt to either start Firefox in safe mode or reset it. I tried safe mode at first then proceeded to reset it as well. Losing all of my add-ons/extensions/etc, I tried to solve the problem by restoring my profile with a folder that appeared on my desktop titled "Old Firefox Data". After following instructions to restore my profile, a window now pops up saying that my profile could not be loaded and Firefox just does not open at all. Is there anyway to recover my old profile? I tried following another suggested method but when searing for my profile through the files, it could not be found.
    Thank you!

  • Same Windows7 product key on different laptops, CQ56-219WM and CQ60-615DX. Is that right??

I purchased two used Compaq Presario laptops, a CQ56-219WM and CQ60-615DX.  I used ProductKey software to obtain the Windows7 Home Premium product key for each machine.  The keys for both machines were the same.  Is this right??  Can I depend on these keys if I wish to load Windows7 as part of a recovery for either machine?
    This question was solved.

Paul_Tikkanen's answer is correct, in that you can't use the HP OEM SLP key that you retrieved from the computer(s) to activate Windows in the normal manner. As Paul stated, you can use the Windows product key that is printed on the Microsoft COA affixed to the computer to activate Windows.
There is however, a different method that can be used to activate either computer using the same HP OEM SLP key. This method requires the retrieval of both the HP OEM SLP key and HP OEM SLP certificate that was factory installed on the computer(s). The computer's BIOS must also contain a matching HP OEM SLIC table for pre-activation to work correctly. Please see HP Forum post "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" for more detials.
    Qoute;
"1b)  Using a key finder, however, is only useful if the Windows 7 product key was printed on a sticker (Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity) affixed to your PC, on documentation included with your PC, or sent via email by Microsoft. Assuming your computer came from one of the big brand computer manufacturers... HP, Sony, Dell, Gateway, etc... as most do, it uses a generic "mass activation" OEM SLP key. Trying to use this key by itself isn't going to work. This OEM SLP key needs to be mated with an OEM SLP certificate and an appropriate OEM BIOS with a proper SLIC table.
1c)  Here is where ABR Beta With Windows 7 Support comes to the rescue. Follow the "How to use it" section of ABR for Windows Vista for information and instructions on how to use ABR. The steps listed for Vista apply to Windows 7 as well. Perform the "activation backup" to "backup" and save the OEM SLP key and OEM SLP certificate. Save the entire ABR folder to an external location for later use. This will allow you to pre-activate your "clean" Windows 7 install on the computer you pulled the key and certificate from."

  • Stopping Power clock reset and key chain reset?

    Hi,
I recently received my computer back from the Apple Store tech support to replace a hard drive malfunction.
Now, unusually it seems like the "Power" button is not as sensitive and I have to hold it down for a good 2 secs for the Power Book to power on, but for some reason when I do this it constantly resets the Time and Date of my power book and apparently blanks my key chains which then requires me to type them in again and re-adjust the date/time every time I boot my computer. How can I avoid the Date/Time issue when booting and the key chain issue. I wish this would have been told to me after the Apple Store kept my computer for nearly 2 weeks. Thanks for any help.

Don't know about the power button and keychain but the clock issue sounds like a dead battery. This should be easy easy to replace; you can find what battery you need on the Apple site (probably the support section). Let me know if this helps!

  • E52's auto key pad lock activate criteria?

I've the auto key pad lock activated on E52 some time ago.  It works whenever the phone is showing the home screen.  But it does not work if the screen is away from home (for example showing Contacts, Message, Menu, etc etc).  Can that be corrected (some setting somewhere?) or it's an oversight in Nokia firmware?

basically, the auto key pad will not work if there is an active application at the front... it will go into power saver mode or standby only... i havent come across any setting in the E52 yet where this can be changed.. i dont think this is a problem though..

    Hi Stivmc,
From your description in your post, it appears that your Mac has a firmware password enabled.  To learn more about this, and what to do if you lost a firmware password, please see the link below.

After powering the iPhone off and on, the light goes out but turns back on randomly or immediately after powering the iPhone on?
Since nothing else you have tried has resolved it, try restoring the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup first.
If no change after that, try restoring as a new iPhone or not from the backup.
If no change after that, the iPhone has a hardware problem.
Call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

  • Having problems with key chain password

I just got my mac book yesterday, and I'm having problems with my keychain password.
My keychain password is not the same as my login password, it won't accept it, so i think i made a typing error.
Each time i go on to safari, it asks for the password, which i don't have. i've tried the key chain first aid, and that still doesn't work. I've also tried keychain access, and that also doesn't work as it asks for the password first!
Is there a way that i can reset it?

There are user passwords and Administrator passwords. The only way to check your keychain password is to be the administrator. In an effort to secure my MacBook, I have an administrator account that I don't use at all and I have a user account that is all I use. It is a great way to protect your MacBook info from others.
As to your question, passwords are case sensitive. You can try to change the password by inserting the CD's that came with your MacBook and reset the password. Seeing that you just got it yesterday, you probably don't have much personal information on it yet, you could use disk utility from the CD and reinstall the Operating System.
    Good Luck.

    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

The only way that I know of to fix this problem, is to reinstall the system software. You can choose and option that will import you current settings after the system is installed and all you files will be put in a folder labled "Previous System." I would still back up any important files you may have because I don't know how reliable it is or to what extent it works.

  • Cannot find key chain error

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I have been getting errors that indicate the system cannot find my key chain to store passwords. How might I fix this?

If you've just changed your login password in Recovery mode, follow these instructions. Otherwise, see below.
At some point, you may have reset your keychain to default in Keychain Access. That action would have caused your login keychain to be renamed.
Back up all data before proceeding.
In Keychain Access, delete the login keychain from the keychain list. Choose Delete References when prompted, not Delete References & Files.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Keychains
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return. A folder will open. Rename the file "login.keychain" in that folder to something like "login-old.keychain". Rename the file "login_renamed_1.keychain" to "login.keychain". You can then close the folder.
    Back in Keychain Access, select
              File ▹ Add Keychain...
from the menu bar. Add back the file now named "login.keychain". If any of your needed keychain items are missing from it, also add back the file you named "login-old.keychain". I suggest you transfer any needed items from that keychain to the login keychain, then delete it. The transfers are made by drag-and-drop in Keychain Access. You'll need to enter your password for each item transferred.

  • OS X installation key chain password debacle

Trying to finish installation of OS X on mini can't figure out what my key chain password, how can I retrieve

FWIW and for anyone else following up on this, I would hope that the keychain password is not retrievable through any reasonable means short of brute-forcing the access.
An easily-recoverable password would point to inadequate security.
Resetting the password by creating a new keychain is the typical approach suggested for cases where the original password is not known, and is likely the approach that Demonred used here.
