Reset Mac OS X 10.8 installation problems after

Hi there,
I got a MacBook (Late 2009) from a friend. The MacBook is reset. (current OS X version 10.8 Mountain Lion) If I want to reinstall OS X, I get an error message: When you prepare to install something failed. It seems as if the MacBook does not reset properly. The Apple ID of the previous owner seems to be still pending.
How can I fix this?
Sincerely yours
Steven Seifried

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.  You can make a bootable DVD/USB stick to install using this free program.
Bootable Drive DVD or USB Flash Drive – Lion Diskmaker
Our 2 computers haven't experienced any significant problems, even though others have. I find it much better than 10.7 Lion, which I used for a week before reverting to 10.6.8
Mavericks is supposed to be released this fall, so you may want to wait.

  • HP OfficeJet 4500 and MAC OSX 10.6.8 installation problem

I've recently bought a HP OfficeJet 4500 and I'm having problems with the Macintosh installation.
I'm on Intel Mac OS X 10.6.8 and I connected the printer to my iMac by using the USB cable.
The CD included with the printer is not readable, so I had to download the driver (OJ4500vG510a-f_Mac.dmg) from the HP website.
When I run the installer, the application is not able to recognize the device so no model is displayed in the list; then, I choose to continue the installation without specifying the model but when I have to do the configuration the installer is not able to find the correct device and so the setup procedure fails.
What I want is to use the printer wireless, so I think I should perform the configuration procedure and to specify that I want to use the Wi-Fi connection but I never reach this step because installer fails before.
I have to say that I successfully installed this printer on Windows XP and Windows 7 by downloading the drivers from the HP website and installing them without problems, but I'm not able to do the same thing with my Mac.
    Can you help me, please?
What I have to do to get my printer work with my mac?

    Hi,
I got the impression you are using the wrong software for your printer.
In order to get aligned, there are 3 sub models of the 4500 series:
HP Officejet 4500 Desktop (G510a) - Provide USB connectivity only. - The driver posted above intended for this model.
HP Officejet 4500 (G510g) - provide USB and Wired ethernet network connection
HP Officejet 4500 Wireless (G510n) - Provide USB and Wireless network connection,
As you mentioned the printer connected to the network, therefore I doubt if the correct driver has been used.
Above you may find a direct download link for both of the models
Simply click the model which identical to the one listed on the front of the printer,
    Regards,
    Shlomi

It installs logic pro but at the end it gives me an installation error. Someone stole my mac osx cd at school so im unable to reinstall or repair osx. In the disk utility it doesnt let me repair my disk. Some help would be much appreciated.

Shut down and reboot holding the Command + S keys. Allow the black screen with white text to fully load, then type fsck -yf and hit return. Wait until you see "Disk has been modified" or "Disk appears to be okay" then type reboot and hit return.

  • Mac os x  10.8 Installation problems

My mac has empty disk with recovery partition.
Recovery says it can install Lion for me. But when I try to do this it says that my apple ID isn't suitable for this/
I've bought Mountain Lion but didn't buy Lion so I've tried to use my friend's apple ID (he has a Mac with Lion preinstalled).
    Have the same answer!
I've tried to make Recovery USB, but it does the same - tries to install Lion with same message that I've got no rights to do this.
What should I do to Install Mountain Lion on my Mac with my apple ID and recovery partition?

Call Apple store and see what can they do for you.

  • Mac mini 10.7.4 update problem after restart

    Hi,
As I always do for every OS X update, I download the combo and apply the update, one of the many reasons for doin so is my very slow internet connection,
What wasn't my surprise when after making the restart, my Mac mini takes me to an OS X install assistant...
    What went wrong and why?

Sounds like Disk Corruption, not sure what OS, but...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there.

  • Installation problems after downloading BB Desktop Manager

All worked perfect, until an automatic update from version 5.0. to 5.0.1. messed everything up, perhaps by the user's fault...
    [1] update worked just jfine
[2] problem started when an message interfered asking for a resource ..8310.msi - file
[3] I finally decided to uninstall the BB Desktop Software altogether with an uninstaller software [YU]
    [4] I downloaded 500_b028_english.exe
[5] after unpacking the software with winzip the Windows installer is interrupted
[6] The Blackberry Desktop Software Installation Wizard tells me: "the wizard was interrupted before Blackberry Desktop Software could be completely installed...Your sysyem has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again.
[7] bad news: this process repeats and interrupts always at the same point in the same manner
[8] consequently I have NO Blackberry desktop software any more at all running ....
Please, help is URGEMTLY needed .... Thx in advance, Wolfgang

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest (5.0.1 is current) and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • TB 24.2; Mac 10.6.8; send & receive problem after upgrade - must click either TWICE or doesen't work. WHY? How to fix?

I used TB 2 for years with no problems. Got stupid one day and upgraded to 24.2 on Mac OS 10.6.8.
Now when I click send I get an error message. After dismissing the error clicking send a second time sends the email normally.
The other half of the problem is Get Mail. Click it once and nothing happens except the little line on the bottom comes up connecting to .. . but it doesn't connect. Click Get Mail a second time and it works normally.
I have a new Mac (Maverick) and TB 24.2 doesn't have this problem on the new machine.

    Anti virus?
And what is the error message? Mind reading I leave for the television people.

  • Mac Pro 3,1 with 5770 problems after sleep with Lion

    Hi,
with 10.7.3 there was a fix for older iMacs with the same issue on an HD 2600 but my mac Pro with the 5770 has the same problem.
Is the Mac Pro user less important for Apple?
My card works fine afer restart. No issues and performance problems (cinebench scores 37fps) but when i sleep my mac and then wake it up all graphic UI things are creepy. There are laggy animations and so on and the speed in Aperture is decreased to a minimum. Cinebench scores after wake up only 16fps.
I bought the card to INCREASE my speed (formerly i have had the HD 2600 built in) and for now, my 249€ is spent for nothing. I dont want to restart my Mac everyday.

So, i have set up a completely new system with all updates to 10.7.4 and the problem already exists.
I am not sure, if this was a problem with Lion or with the ATI 5770
    Not really nice

  • Drivers installation problems after replacing Win Xp Home Ed by Win Xp pro.

    Help needed.
I have a Toshiba stellite M70 -SR2(purchased last December), which came with Win Xp Home Ed pre-installed on it. I remove the Home Ed and installed my XP pro Spk2. Now I can't get my wireless connection to communicate with my Linsys router so I can connect to the internet, the video card can't be installed,...
I only managed to download and install the sound drivers and the modem drivers.
I downloaded the Display Drivers, unzipped the file but unable to install them like I managed with the sound drivers.
In my device manager screen I still get a yellow marke in front of:
    -Eternet Controller
    -SM Bus Controller
    -Video Controler (VGA Compatible)
Can some one gives instructions on how to get and install these drivers or where can I find the instructions.
    Thankx

    Hi
Well, the right installation order is very important because some drivers and utilities cannot be installed without the other drivers.
I recommend to follow the installation instruction and to install the whole stuff.
If you dont need something so you can remove it from the OS in Add & remove software.
To solve the yellow question mark problem you have only to install the drivers.
Chipset driver (at the beginning), Lan/Wlan driver, display driver.
But if you follow the installation instruction you shouldnt get any yellow question marks.
    Regards

  • Installation problems after reformatting

So I reformatted my iMac G5, and I'm trying to install leopard on it. But whenever I boot from the disc, it brings up the language selection screen, I click english, press next on the introduction screen, accept the terms of service, and it goes to the where would you like to install leopard screen. But, nothing shows up on that screen for me to select from. Do I need to format my hard drive a certain way? I noticed that there were options like Macintosh Extended (Journaled) and other options. Does it have to be one of those specific ones?

first start disk utility from the utilities menu at the top. does your drive show up? if it does try reformatting it again. the format should be mac os extended journaled and the partition scheme should be APM. to set the partition scheme click on "options". then quit Disk Utility and proceed with the install.

There is a problem on my mac mini. I install windows7 in my mac then i cancelled the installation did not finish..after that i saw the black screen on my monitor untill now the monitor is black..

It maybe trying to boot from the incomplete install.
Try starting your Mac while holding down the Option key, it should then list all the available boot drives including the Mac OS X one. Boot from the Mac one and then you can wipe the damaged PC one or set the Mac to stay booting in to OS X.

You are right, Adobe does not support CS5 because it is no longer sold.
Simply download the trial version of CS5 from this Adobe web site and input your serial number.

  • Wierd Mac Installer problems

Im not sure why but i cant get any .pkg files to install properly. At some point in the installation the UI becomes totally un responsive and i get the spinning beachball of death. This happens for me with various pkg files, namely the iPhone SDK installer and the Onyx installer package?
    Does anyone have any ideas?

See my post with this same post date in the topic iLife '09 installation problems; run preflight script error for one possible cause of this behavior.
It also could be that you need to run the "Permissions Repair" option in Disk Utility's First Aid tab to correct some permission on a system file used during the installation procedure; that your drive's file system needs to be repaired with the "Repair Disk" option; or that the drive does not have adequate free space to complete the installation. (As a rule of thumb, try to leave 10 to 15% of the startup volume's capacity free, or at lease 5 GB over & above whatever the installer tells you is needed for the install itself.)
As a general rule, it is a good idea to quit all other applications before doing an installation that uses Apple's Installer.app, & it may be necessary to disconnect non-essential peripherals (everything except the keyboard, mouse, & monitor) & restart before doing so. You should also consider removing any hacks or uninstalling any third party "enhancers" that modify basic system behavior before doing installs, or at least making sure that the latest versions of such things are installed. (Some "enhancers," especially "Application Enhancer" -- a.k.a "APE"-- are installed by other third party products & their developers do not always make that clear, so do not assume one of these things is not on your Mac just because you have not installed it directly.)
