Reset mail account password in thunderbird

All support replies refer to ISP access password. What I need is access to Thunderbird program account password. This only seems to show itself when beginning account. ??

Thunderbird only has one password and it is optional. You would have to activate that feature. It is the master password. You can read about it here.

  • POP E-mail account password

My POP mail account is not working. I've had this computer a long time and I intend to get a new one
because it's so out of date but in the mean time I need to get this problem fixed. The problem is with the
password. I NEVER had to type it in. It was always in there in mail preferences/accounts (all in asterisks*****)
For reasons I can't figure out, the password is no longer there. In keychain access there is no
indication of any mail account and password. When I click on "get mail" I get a prompt that asks for
a password. I have no idea what it is! My e-mail server is Time Warner Cable. They have no idea
what I'm talking about. I opened a g mail account just so I can do some e-mailing but I hate the format
and I want to continue to send and receive e-mails at my POP account and Time Warner e-mail address
as I have many business cards with that address on it. How can I fix the Pop e-mail account password
problem? Should I contact Apple and pay to ask them a question? I'm really perplexed. Even though
"mail" is not in my keychain access list, I tried to look at other passwords for other things and a prompt
asks me for a "keychain access password". I never had one! But that's a different issue. For now I'll settle for
a solution to my POP password problem.

Thank u for your suggestions. I'm the only one who uses this computer but I do have another mail account with g-mail which I only opened after the POP account failed. I repaired the keychain access to no avail but it did say that there was "no problem" with the chain. I reset the chain and I still can't send or receive e-mails from my POP account. I called Time Warner cable and they said they thought there could be a problem on their end and they
were checking it out. But the problem remains that even if they fix the problem that is rejecting my e-mail password, I now have no e-mail password to type in. It used to be saved in Preferences and now it's no longer there. If I can't retrieve the password from somewhere (it's not on my keychain access list) I don't know how to get the password or create a new one. As a result of resetting the keychain I now have a keychain access password. But there's no POP account or any mail app in the keychain list to use it with.

I have forgotten my Mail account password on my MacBook Pro.  How can I learn what it is?  (It doesn't give the option of resetting my password!)

Accidentally posted it twice; first time user!
The password it prompts for is the third password line in a box under 1) my name and 2) my me.com email address.  I assume it is the password I set up back in 2009 when I bought my MacBook Pro.  However, I have since fogotten it, and it doesn't give you an opportunity to "remember" it.
    Thank you!
Glenn posted the method, try it.

  • HT201240 Re: OS X: Changing or resetting an account password (Snow Leopard and earlier)

Can someone help please! I cannot log in to my Mac
Followed these intructions from earlier posts this thread, and got to:
    4. Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume. DONE
    5. Select the user name of your original administrator account. COULD NOT COMPLETE
    - But my original administrator account is not showing. The only option shown for me is "System Administrator (root)".
Luckily I read the note below: Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)".
So now I wait for further advice...

Mail is asking for all my mail account passwords. They should all be in my keychain. Any suggestions? (I have over 50)

Open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
From the Keychain Access menu bar top of your screen click Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid
Click Verify > Start. if necessary click Repair.
You may need to enter your admin password to proceed.
And, from the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information

  • How can I add/change e-mail account password? How can I test the account?

For several days I have been unable to send or receive messages using Thunderbird. Works OK with another mail client. This problem started right after installing a security update 24.4.0 (20140316131045). I went to Options/Security/Passwords and deleted all the saved passwords. When I try to download messages, however, the system is not asking me to enter a new password. Thunderbird regrettably lacks a "Test" button to test access to the accounts.
    Any suggestions?

If you're not being prompted for the password Thunderbird is unable to reach the server.
Verify your firewall settings and make sure Thunderbird isn't blocked.
You can easily verify your password using webmail.

I'm trying to help my mother-in-law reset her iCloud Password.
When you go to iForgot it gives the email option, but she never gets an e-mail to any of her accounts,

... is there any way to get it reset?
    Thanks!

If you are sure that your reset email is not being filtered out, then I suggest you contact Apple at Express Lane (select your country, navigate to iCloud help and enter the serial number of one of your devices)

  • E-mail account password

    HELP PLEASE!
I forgot the password to my e-mail account. How can I retrieve it please? I have my admin user name and password but this does not work. The e-mail password is not in my keychain so I am not able to verify it from there.
    Thank you!
    Maia

If you setup your Mail account to keep your password in the Keychain, then it would be there. But if you didn't do that and you have to enter it each time you want to send or receive email, there's nothing we can do to retrieve it. You would need to contact your email provider to have them send it to your or reset it for you.

  • Resetting Mail accounts after drive crashed. Can't send...

My drive crashed. I was able to save my data with Disk Warrior. Installed Tiger on one of two external drives, and I'm setting everything back up on it from backed up and saved files.
Mail refuses to let me send. (Receives fine) My ISP (Cable) incoming and outgoing server settings have not changed. Web mail works fine. So I know my user name/passwords are correct. Also trying to reset up my business e-mail account with server settings from our hosting service. I've triple checked user name/password/incoming and outgoing settings. Webmail works fine on this account too. Mac Mail will not receive OR send on this account. I've tried ditching the Plist file from preferences and starting fresh several times. WHAT AM I MISSING HERE? It all worked fine for years before, with the same settings. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Ernie, The first part seemed to work. I removed the authentication on the ISP provided account, and I can now send and receive from this account. (With the modem authenticating, I don't need further security measures do I?)
However, the Hosted account still refuses to allow mail coming or going through Mac Mail/Cable ISP. It says that "The POP server has rejected the password for user " ". I have tried it with the hosted smtp outgoing server selected, as well as with the ISP provided outgoing server selected. No dice. (This used to occasionally happen before my drive rebuild and switching between these outgoing servers worked. Dunno why.)
Any further light you can shed on this is truely appreciated!

  • Retrieving/resetting my account password for MacBook Air OS X 10.9.4 when FileVault is NOT switched on?

    Hey all,
I've encountered a major problem since purchasing my MacBook Air OS X Mavericks 10.9.4. As I was previously using a Pro with an account password that used to work just fine, I decided to simply set the Air with the same credentials. However, the password I have no recollection of changing is not accepted by my Air. Without it I cannot install any new software and I need several programs urgently. Trouble is, my FileVault is not switched on nor can it be switched on. I cannot reset the password either, as doing so requires me to type in my current one.
    What do I do?
    Kind regards,
    Elena

If you're not using FileVault 2, then FileVault 2 is not involved.   Either use your Apple ID to reset your password, or Method 1 here should get your password reset to one you know.

  • I need help with my mac mail account password!

okay. so i came home one day after work, and i went to check my mail. there is a squiggly line next to my inbox. i tried to send a message, and a box popped up asking for my account password. now i only use two passwords - one is a word with numbers, and the other is just a word. i entered both, and was told they were incorrect. i'm stumped. am i going to have to start a new account? is there a way to change the password and still get my mail? would someone please help me out? thanks in advance to anyone who does.

Well, then maybe Mail is corrupted, so let's try to fix that. You'll need:
    1. your Mac OS X installation disc.
    2. a copy of Pacifist.
    3. confidence and patience.
First, quit Mail, go to Users/your username/Library/ and copy the Mail folder to your Desktop; then download Pacifist using the link above.
Next, insert your Mac OS X installation disc, open it with Pacifist and browse the contents of the Optional Installs folder until you find the installer package for Mail, then open that Mail package.
Select the top-level of that package in the Pacifist file listing and click on the Extract button in Pacifist and choose your Desktop for the destination. When that is finished, move the newly extracted copy of Mail to your HD/Applications folder. Choose "Replace" when it tells you there's already a newer or older file there with the same name.
Quit Pacifist, open System Preferences and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions; then quit System Preferences, logout and log back in, then try starting Mail and see if that resolves your problem.
