Reset or Restart whithout losing songs

I'm having a problem whith a new computer. When I plug my Ipod it says it's corrupt or it doesn't even notice it's connected. I read that if I reset the Ipod most problems are solved. But my problem that my previous computer doesn't work so my music is only in the Ipod. If I reset it, will I lose everything?
Thank you!

Resetting an iPod will not erase anything from the iPod or the iTunes library; restoring it will erase the iPod's contents, but not the contents of the iTunes library.

  • IPod Restarts On Certain Song

When I play a certain song on my iPod, it essentially restarts - it won't play the song at all. But it plays fine with I plug my iPod into the computer and play it from iTunes. Anyone know whats up, or how to fix this? I'm not sure of how many songs it does this to.

U R not alone, I have Jay-Z "03 Bonnie & Clyde" and the iPod resets EVERYTIME i play that song. Really annonying. Thats the only song I've noticed i have the problem with. What I did was delete that song, and redownload and import it into my library. Problem solved.

  • How can I switch from Automatic to Manual update without losing songs?

I have on my ipod songs from another computer, however I'm afraid to plug it into my computer because my computer is set to automatic update for my ipod. Is there a way for me to switch my ipod to manual update without losing songs on my ipod when plugging it in? thanks.

    Here is what you do:
    Open iTunes.
    Plug in your ipod.
hold control and shift at the same time. this stops your ipod from updating automatically. Hold this until your ipod is finished docking.
    Then go to edit>preferences>ipod
then change the setting from update automatically to update manually.

  • Go from manually update to auto-update without losing songs?

I was trying to delete some podcasts from my ipod, and was following the directions on the help menu which told me to go to preferences and choose manual update, then delete. I tried it, and it didn't work. When I decided to go back to auto update, I received a message that everything on my ipod would be deleted and the update would be just what is on the itunes on that machine. I have more than one computer, and have itunes on each one. There are different songs on each computer. If I go to manually update on this computer, it will erase the songs I've put on from other computers. All this and I still have the unwanted podcasts. Can anyone help me to go back to auto-update without losing songs? If worse comes to worst I guess I'll have to update, lose the songs, and then re-update at my other computers. thanks.

Afraid that's not possible. If you go to auto-update, the iPod gets cleared and replaced with the current contents of the iTunes library.

  • When syncing with itunes, got error message saying had error and now ipad2 will not do anything other than showing the USB cable with arrow pointing to Itunes on screen.  have done the reset and restart, but still get same thing.

when syncing with itunes, got error message saying had error and now ipad2 will not do anything other than showing the USB cable with arrow pointing to Itunes on screen.  have done the reset and restart, but still get same thing.  Ipad does not show up in itunes even though cable plugged in.  Have shut down and restarted Windows 7 computer.

I had done all of that to no avail.  I did call Apple Tech Support and after he suggested I try a USB port in the rear of the Win 7 computer, things starting working again.  I had tried switching the USB port at the front of the machine but that had not helped.  Everything is good to go again.  thanks for  your reply

    1) are you sure a reset holding the reset button will not delete my data?
Absolutely sure.. There is no connection at all.. reset is only the router side of the TC.
For the hard disk to be erased you need to access the airport utility disk page.. request erase and confirm the operation.
    2) I can access to time capsule by ethernet but I am not able to input the corret setting by myself
    Thank you again
I am uncertain why if you have access you cannot change settings.. but that is why you reset things so any of those problems should be fixed.
Here is the Apple info on reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
And here is the quote from the horse's mouth so to speak.
Factory default reset: Perform this reset if you wish to repurpose the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule and want to remove all personal profiles and settings first. This reset resets the device to its state when you first purchased it. Data stored on internal or external hard drives connected to the device will not be erased. If you choose, you may manually erase the hard drive using AirPort Utility.

  • Camera is not working on my iphone4 , I have tried to restore, reset and restart....just stays closed...

    Hi,
I have tried to restore, reset and restart my phone....
I even sent it in to the shop I bought it from...which took a whole week...It worked once after that...now is back to the same old black closed screen....
    Help!!

Restore as new... if that does not rectify the problem, it's time to have the device replaced under warranty.

  • HT4061 I had 483 songs two weeks ago last week it was 479 and now it 476 i keep losing songs ?  has anyone had this problem before ?

I love my music alot , but two weeks ago I started losing songs three at a time or more......has anyone ever had this problem before?

Thanks roaminggnome....my teenage son uses this phone and hasn't backed it up...so I don't want to restore it to factory settings just yet. Tried your other suggestions with no joy so if it comes on normally after discharging the battery tonight I'll restore it after backing up all his contacts ,music etc.
I was curious as to what the fault actually is as no-one seems to have had this one where I've looked on the internet.
The phone was dropped and subsequently repaired through insurance in Sept 2011 and they issued me with another imea number so the complete internals of the phone must have been replaced by them so I hope that the fault is covered by their normal warranty on work carried out. Thanks for your reply.

  • HT201412 iphone will not reset or restart. Help!

Hi! I seem to have frozen my iphone. I'm not sure how but it froze and I can't reset or restart it. Any one help?

    Hi there Jennas27,
It sounds like your phone is not turning on at all at this point. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article about that kind of an issue. It also has information on reaching out to Apple if needed:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

I updated my iPad 2 software to 7.0.3?(the latest update), and now I can't connect to my network.  I tried reset and restart and that did not work.  I have no network problems with my other devices.

    Try reset all settings

Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

  • Ipod resets sometimes when playing lossless songs

My Ipod sometimes resets or skips part of song when I play lossless stereo songs (imported through Itunes from original CD). The strange thing is that I can play the same song just fine after the reset again. I have noticed some pople have problem with mono recordings but haven't found any also for lossless stereo. The ipod is updated to latest software version. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem with Apple lossless on both of my iPods (5g 60GB and 2G 4GB mini, green). Oddly, the resets occur at the beginning of certain songs on the mini and at the end of certain songs on the video.
The problem songs are consistent within each iPod, but not between the two. I thought it might be an issue with gapless playback, but only one of the albums whose songs are giving me problems is set to gapless.

You will have to force your phone into Recovery Mode & restore it. iTunes will give you the option of restoring from backup or as a new device. All data, currently on your phone, will be erased. Follow the directions here:

  • Library keeps losing songs

This question has been asked before, but I've never seen an answer to it. My iTunes library keeps "losing" songs - I get the exclamation point and it tells me it can't find the song. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it; the songs are where they always have been, no names or locations have been changed. I've had songs I just added to the library disappear the very next time I open iTunes. I have my iPod set to "Manually Manage Music" so at least I'm not terrified every time I plug it in that I'm going to lose my music, but it's very annoying to keep having to find the same tunes over and over...Does ANYBODY know why this happens?

    Unbelievable.
I have the same problem. Well, the songs are not really lost, but iTunes just gets confused about the correct path to the file. This may be related to handling of names. E.g., I have two folders for the B52's in my iTunes libraries, one is "The B52's", the other just "B52's". Maybe I even have a 3rd one, "B52's, The". Or an album appears twice, once in the folder "Compilations" and once in the folder "Various artists". The missing files are ever in one of these multiple locations. But iTune seems to use a wrong one. And there is no easy way to fix it. It needs to be done manually, song by song and takes easly 30..60 seconds per song. Blurp!
I have upgraded to the new iTunes version, yesterday. And got a few 100 songs declares as "missing".
To find out if you have any missing songs, just select all songs in your library via CTRL-A and press CTRL-I afterwards, then OK. All "missing" songs will get marked by an exclamarion mark .
This is a serious issue. I can't believe that it is ignored by Apple. Sorry, Apple, your stuff costs some extra money. I expect it to work. But iTunes - obviously! - doesn't.
    Just unbelievable.

  • HT201559 I have tried to reset and restart my iPod touch but it remains stuck at the apple logo and turns off. The iPod is not responsive when i connect it to my computer or wall charger.

I have tried to reset and restart my iPod touch but it remains stuck at the apple logo and turns off. The iPod is not responsive when i connect it to my computer or wall charger.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Apple tv (2nd gen) reset itself after playing one song

Invited friends over and the apple tv failed me.
When connected to my home shared iTunes library, the apple tv will play the first song and at the end the apple tv will go to reset itself or get disconnected from the network.
Then I tried to play the music using the iTunes form the iMac but using AirPlay via the apple tv. The same problem, the apple tv will no play after the first song, and reset itself. However the iTunes in the iMac continued playing the next song.
I was lucky the I had a airport express. So I moved it to replace the apple tv and connect Otto the speakers. I Mac played non stop via the airport express with no issues.
    Any ideas what to do?

Have you unplugged AppleTV from the mains and restarted/re-tried.
I doubt the software is bug free and sometimes unplugging power gets rid of spurious glitches.
If the problem persists, there are a couple of possibilities apart from AppleTV including issues with your iTunes library/artwork or individual songs being corrupted that iTunes  itself may handle better and more gracefully than the iOS device.
Consider creating a new itunes library (hold alt when opening iTunes to create new/switch) and test with that (even under a different user account).
If it repeatedly does it send feedback to Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
Do movies/TV shows play ok? If they do it's unlikely it's a network issue of some kind.
Also check that the iMac isn't going to sleep after a few mins causing AppleTV to hang as it can't find the song.
