Reset Passcode without iTunes

I have a company iPad that is quiet a few years old and has a passcode on the Reset all Settings section. My company does not have iTunes on the computers. Is there some way to reset this password without connecting to iTunes? (The iPad also won't update past iOS 5.1) Thank you!

No.

Need to reset password without iTunes.  The laptop that had it was damaged and inaccessible.

    Only if:
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
Otherwise you need a computer with iTunes and an internet connection
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

Type in the correct passcode. If you have disabled the iPad you will have to connect it to a computer you have synced with or put it in recovery mode and restore it in iTunes.

  • Reset passcode from itunes

    Hello all,
I have a rather large problem. My sister was found deceased last week with suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. I need to get into her iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.3 to view her text and phone call messages from the last week to piece together the puzzle of what happened to her.
I have access to the laptop that is the primary docking device with iTunes on it and I also have her Apple id password. I caled my local Apple store and they cant do anything for me.
Is there any way to get past the 4 digit lock screen code to get the data off the iPhone without compromising it? Any way to do this through iTunes?

You could see if you could get a forensics computer specialist to get into the phone, but that would be very expensive. For the normal user, there is no way to bypass the passcode except a restore from a backup on the computer she normally synced with. Since it appears you have that, you could restore as a regular user would if they lost their passcode. Check the User Guide regarding forgetting the Passcode, and it should direct you to a support document, or you can search the forums here regarding forgetting your passcode, there have to be hundreds of postings about that. Good luck to you. I'm sorry about your loss, but as a retired law enforcement officer, I wanted to make sure you didn't compromise the investigation by doing anything to the phone/computer first. I didn't mean to lessen the impact of your loss.

  • Reset passcode with itunes

From browsing the Internet I see a lot of people trying to bypass the iPhone passcode lock.  I have a similar but I think unique situation.
I had a passcode set on my phone.  I couldnt sleep two nights ago and vaguely remember playing with my phone settings.  The next morning I went to use my phone and my passcode wouldnt work.  With a sinking feeling I remember seeing passcode settings.
Needless to say I entered codes until I got the Connect to Itunes prompt.
Thinking iTune stored multiple backups, I connected my phone and made a backup not realizing I just erased the one from the prior week.
So now I can connect to iTunes, tell it to restore, get the Cannot Restore theres a Passcode message, disconnect the cable, reconnect the cable, it syncs for a few seconds, then have access to the Passcode screen for another 10 tries until it locks again and I have to repeat this.
I dont want to reset and lose my data.  In iTunes I can see my apps, music and movies.  Is there a way iTunes can reset the passcode?  I dont want to do the reset/restore for two reasons: 1) everthing I've read says I lose app data if I do that and 2) since I backed up after locking does that restore the forgotten passcode too so I end up in the same boat?
    HELP PLEASE!

Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to rest the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

  • I changed my passcode for ipad2,instantly forgot it as it was completely random..last back up to pc was june, and regular backup to icloud.how do i reset passcode without restoring to an outdated backup/or restore from icloud?

i forgot to mention my pc is windows xp and doesnt have (or cant install icloud for windows)

Restoring it is the only option you have. Or remembering the new passcode.
Accessing iCloud from our PC really doesn't apply in this case (it doesn't give you acess to the back up), but you might try installing Safari for windows. I beleive it will allow you to access ww.icloud.com without the browser add in if you need to do so. Again, there wouldn't be any use for it in your current situation, just for future reference.

  • Need help!!! Can I reset phone without iTunes

Hey guys so I need some help. I recently got a new iphone and then like an idiot forgot the pass ode to my old iPhone 4s. I tried 10 times and it disabled me and I don't have a computer to sync to iTunes. Is there anyway to get it? Or at least get it back to where I can try to enter the code again because I think I know it now. Please any help would be appreciated

    Hello Angierae5,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you can't remember your passcode, you will need to erase the iPhone using iTunes, Find My iPhone, or recovery mode.  You can then recover your data from your backup.

  • How to reset 5s without itunes

HELP - new 5S locked - and refuses to start!
Yesterday my new 5S refused to turn off after a call w a customer, and I had to turn it off to end the call.
This 5S, that replaced a 4S, was when new automatically initiated with the 4S-settings over iCloud and WiFi, hence never connected to iTunes.
So I instead followed the recommendation from Apple online support, erase it over iCloud with Find My iPhone and then connect the device to iTunes to reactivate. It has been erased, and removed from Find My iPhone, but still does not reactivate, it says that "Apple Activation Server does not respond, try later", and has said so for the past 20 hours...
When connecting to iTunes it says SIM-card is locked with PIN-code, pls insert code to unlock - but I can't get anywhere where I could type in my PIN!!!
    Any good ideas?

you need to call your carrier so they can give you the pin code.. on your phone slide the "slider bar to unlock" while it is connected to itunes and then enter your pin

  • Reset disabled iPad without iTunes

    Well, I'm in trouble now.
I have an iPad that says "iPad Disabled Connect to iTunes" and it won't connect to anything but the computer it was set up with.
My problem now is that computer has since been reformatted and reinstalled a few times, so the iPad won't recognize it!
So I need to reset it without iTunes, or with iTunes on a "different" computer.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • Restore without iTunes

My daughter got a new iPad for Christmas.  I linked it to my iTunes account via the ipad so I can track what she buys.  We haven't had a chance to sync it with the computer iTunes yet.  Today she set the passcode and can't remember what she used.  I can't log onto iTunes on the computer because it is locked in order to restore it.  How can I restore the iPad or rest the passcode without iTunes.

    MarkJones,
I hope this post doesn't come across with the wrong tone, just attempting to clarify my previous statements. It may have seemed like I was suggesting something I was not.
I am assuming you are referring to this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3498618&#3498618
What I was referring to is that when you restore the iPod Shuffle, and iPod Shuffle (Second Generation), the format is going to be FAT32. The iPod is reformatted during the restore process. Seeing the iPod Shuffle (Second Generation) as formated FAT32 doesn't mean there is a problem with the iPod.
I have not recomended formatting any iPod with Disk Utility. Restore also formats the iPod, and resolves format related issues.

  • Factory Reset iPad 2 without passcode or iTunes

I need to do a factory reset on an iPad 2. It is locked with a passcode, and I do not have a computer with iTunes on it. How can I reset my device?
If you cannot help, please do not post irrelevant links or questions. Thank you.

There is no way anyone can help you. It is like asking how can I drive my car without an engine. You cannot restore it to factory conditions without iTunes and a computer. If you make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store they will restore it as a new device for you. You might also get the Geek Squad people to do so for you also.

You don't. The only way to remove the passcode if forgotten is to restore the device. A reset has nothing to do with iTunes.

If it is locked with a passcode and the passcode is unknown or forgotten, the only way to get the device functional is a restore via iTunes on a computer.
