Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
Create a Restore Point:   Create a Restore Point – Win7 OR  Create a restore point Win8
If you are using a Notebook:
Close all your programs and shut down the computer
Disconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)
Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook model
Boot the computer and log in
Reminder:  Hard Reset is just a device Reset.  The procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows setup in any way.  It just "clears the cobwebs".  Depending on the cause of the problem, this kind of "reset" can fix a variety of computer glitches.
This procedure may "kick" the fingerprinter free so it works again.

  • How to Reset Windows 8 Admin Password without Disk

Problem:Forgot Windows 8 admin password and no reset disk available, how can I reset Windows 8 admin password? On the occasion, how to reset password on Windows 8 seems to be our problematic issue. However, the problem looks difficult, not difficult actually. Two factors make efforts on it. One is the new characteristics of Windows 8 system, the other is software technology development. So just let me help you to solve it. Just choose one and put it into practice:1. Get User password via Windows Password Hint.2. Get into computer with PIN code, and reset password for locked account.3. Login windows 8 Via Microsoft MSN Account.4. Reset Windows password with another available admin account.5. Reset Windows 8 password with iSunshare password tool. These methods will be introduced in details for people who have encountered or are facing this problem. 1. Get Administrator password via Windows Password HintWhen we are creating our Windows system account and login password, a password hint will be asked to set up for preparation. This password hint had better can remind you, only just you of lost or forgotten password. So it couldn’t like the password, but is related to your login password. As a result, while you type a wrong password, the password hint will pops up below the password input box. Based on the password hint, you can think of your origin password.  As seen above, my password hint is email [email protected], and my Windows 8 login password is the same as the password of email. So when the password hint pops up, I will think of Windows login password instantly. 2. Get into computer with PIN code, and reset password for locked accountPIN code is a quick, convenient way to sign in to this PC by using a 4-digit code. If you have ever created one, this may be the most simplest and effective method for Windows 8 password reset. Totally two steps are needed. Step 1: Sign in with PIN code
When you forgot your local account password in the login page, sign-in options is provided for you to choose. Click the Sign-in options, there are two options, Password and PIN. Choose PIN, and input 4-digit code in the box. Then you can sign in to your computer successfully. Step 2: Press Windows +X, and click on Command Prompt (Admin) and Yes. Step 3: On the Command Prompt, type in: Net User <user name> <new password> and press Enter to reset a new password for Windows 8.  Command Prompt screen appears, input the words like the words in the red box, user name is iSunshare, new password is 12345, and then press Enter to complete the Windows password reset process.  3. Login windows 8 Via Microsoft MSN AccountIf your computer has set up to sign in to Windows 8 with Microsoft account, and you can login Windows with it, and create a PIN that any user who has a password must enter it when waking this PC, and then login with PIN code, reset password with Command Prompt. 4. Reset Windows 8 Password with Another available Admin AccountIf there is another admin account available, log on to Windows with this account first, and then reset other accounts passwords would be easy.
    >> Enter Computer Management screen
Click My Computer to select Manage to enter this screen
    >> Set password for account you want to reset
Click Local Users and Groups, choose Users, and right-click the account you want to reset its password to choose Set Password. 5. how do i delete icloud account on my ipad when my apple ID is non active email and i don't know the password and can't reset password without active email

If the iCloud account you are trying to delete is old ID that was later updated to change it to your current ID, you can go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now, if desired, you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How to reset password without iTunes ?

Need to reset password without iTunes.  The laptop that had it was damaged and inaccessible.

    Only if:
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
Otherwise you need a computer with iTunes and an internet connection
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Resetting the original administrator account password without disk

How can I reset the original administrator account password without the disk.
I just moved homes and can't find disk. Pls, help.

Backup before you begin just in case.
Boot holding cmd+R. Recovery mode should startup (assuming you have a recovery partition).
Select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
    Enter the word…
    resetpassword
    … & hit return.
The GUI app will open, select the main boot HD.
Select the admin user account in the popup menu.
Change & save the new password.
    Quit ResetPassword from the menu,
    Quit Terminal
    Reboot
    NOTE:
The keychain is setup to use the user login password to unlock when you login. It will now be inaccessible without the old password. You should be prompted to create a new one via a dialog, if not manually create a new login keychain in Keychain Access & set it as 'default'. Backup the old keychain if you are ever likely to remember the old password, or delete it since these passwords are inaccessible without the correct password.

  • How to install OS/reset password without optical drive?

I was given a white G3 recently, 900 MHz 1 GB of RAM, pretty decent for as old as it is, only problem is that it doesn't have an optical drive. All of the user accounts have passwords and I can't use a disc to do a clean install or reset passwords. Any clue on how to do do anything without a disc? The closest thing I have to an external optical drive is an IDE drive with an IDE to USB adapter, but it doesn't recognize that on boot. I have an external hard drive if I can somehow mount an image on that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You do not have a CD/DVD
Changing password from single user mode:
You can also change the administrator's password from single user mode or create a new administrator account.
You need to get into single use mode for steps one and two that are listed below.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492
Basically, you hold down the command-s key then powering on your machine. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar. On a PC keyboard, it will be the windows key, I think.
    1) You can change the password on an account. ( Do you know Unix. You are in a Unix single user console. ) The setup commands you need should be listed on the screen. For Mac OS 10.4.11, the commands are:
    # Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    # Start up some utility processes that are needed.
    sh /etc/rc
    # You will probably need to press the return key once the system stops typing.
    # To find out the users on the system type, use the list command. The l is a lower case L:
    ls /Users
    # One of these accounts will be the administrator.
    # Pick one of the users which I'll call a-user-name and type it in this command:
    passwd a-user-name
    # and enter the new user password. You need six characters.
    # You will need to enter your password twice. Your typing will not show up on the screen just
    # press enter when you complete the typing.
    # For cryptic information on these commands try:
    man ls
    man passwd
The root account isn't enabled by default. I am not sure if changing the password on root will enable it.
    2) Get the Mac to set up an additional administrative account. You can then change the password on your old account.
Start with your computer power off. Hold down command-s. Power on your computer.
    Type in the following:
The first two commands will depend on your release of Mac OS X. Look at what is typed out in the console to determine the exact format.
    # Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write. Press return after each command.
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    cd /var/db
    pwd
#List all files. The l is a lower case L.
    ls -a
#The move command acts as a rename command in this format.
    mv -i .applesetupdone .applesetupdone.old
    reboot
Once you've done that the computer reboots and it's like the first time you used the machine. Your old accounts are all safe. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!
    Limnos adds detailed explainations:

Once you have a new administrative account, you can change the password of your old administrative account
blue apple > System Preferences > Accounts
    • You can see that it is easy to change your administrator password. You can set a firmware password that you enter before your machine will boot.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
    • For the best data security, you should use FileVault. Create a good logon password. Define and use a good backup plan. I do not recommend using FileVault unless you really need the security because it is much harder to recover your data should you have a hard drive problem and you do not have your data backed up.

  • Must reset password EVERY time I log in

For whatever reason, I cannot sign into my account without resetting my password every time I log in.  I reset the password to the same thing every time.  Not only is this a TERRIBLE user experience, this is unacceptable for a large tech company to not be able to get this right.

This is happening to me as well. I log on (correctly), then it asks me for my email address, I type that in...next page says I have more than 1 account and gives me the choice to click AT&T Access ID or AT&T Account Manager.  Clicking either one takes me to reset my password. If I click the "Personal" tab in the top left, I go back to the home page and have to start over. This happens on my laptop & my smart phone app.  Any suggestions yet?

  • Resetting password without start up disc

I can't use my password any more, and i was wondering if anyone has found a way to reset my user password without the startup disc, or another mac

    Forgot Your Account Password
    For Snow Leopard and earlier
Mac OS X 10.6- If you forget your administrator password
    For Lion/Mountain Lion
        Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
instructions in the dialog window that will appear.
Or see Reset a Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Password and
OS X Lion- Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
If you are unable to boot from an installer DVD:
(these will only work on Leopard or earlier)
      1. Boot to Safe Mode by restarting and after the chime press and hold down
the COMMAND-S keys until a black screen with white type appears.
      2. At the prompt, type the following commands pressing return after each
          command line:
         /sbin/fsck -yf
If you do not receive a "Filesystem OK" message then repeat this command
until you do.  If after seven tries you still do not receive a "Filesystem OK"
message, then the system is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.
         mount -uw /
         cd /private/var/db/netinfo
         mv local.nidb local.old
         rm ../.AppleSetupDone
         shutdown -r now
The second-to-last command above will cause OS X to think that the operating system is newly installed, and when the new owner starts up the computer it will send him/her to the startup wizard where he/she can start a new user without reinstalling.
This last method does not actually change a password. It simply removes the user accounts and lets you create an initial admin account as if the computer were new out of the box.
Reset Admin Password Using The Terminal
You can reset the password by printing out (or writing down) and carefully following these steps.
First, find the short name of the admin user on the machine. The easiest way of doing this is by looking at what the directory is called in the Users folder.
Now, start in Single-user Mode. It should boot into a command line.
Enter these exact lines. Press RETURN after each.
    mount -uw /
    ifconfig lo0 up
    cd /var/db/netinfo
    netinfod -s local
Now you'll need that short name. Enter "passwd", a space, and the short name of the admin. For example, if the admin was rather prosaically called "imadmin", you would enter "passwd imadmin".
The computer will now prompt you to change the password for "lmadmin" (or whatever the short name was). Go ahead and enter a new password.
    Now, enter:
    sync
    reboot
and the machine will reboot. The admin password should now be changed.

  • Reset Password without Admin Privileges

I am using the latest APEX hosted via apex.oracle.com. I'm trying to create a 'forgot password' capability but it appears that every built-in apex utility that allows me to reset and/or update the password requires admin privileges. Is there any way to do this without having admin privileges? I'm using APEX Authentication.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
Create an authentication function with two parameters something like this and follow the link to create a custom authentication scheme.

        l_pwd  my_users.password%type;
        l_id   my_users.id%type;
    begin
        select id  , password
          into l_id, l_pwd
          from my_users
         where user_name = l_user;
        return l_pwd = rawtohex(sys.dbms_crypto.hash (
                           sys.utl_raw.cast_to_raw(p_password||l_id||l_user),
                           sys.dbms_crypto.hash_md5 ));
    exception
        when NO_DATA_FOUND then return false;
    end;
    and

Hi apple community, How do I restore an Ipod without losing data that hasn't been backed up? The photos in question were dowloaded onto the ipod from a digital camera via itunes. After downloading the computer crashed and all data was irretrievably lost.I wonder, if I reset to factory settings, will I lose all those photos? You can give this a try:

    1. Boot into single-user or verbose mode
    2. At the prompt enter the following commands.  Press RETURN after each:
    fsck -fy
    mount -uw /
    launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist
    dscl . -passwd /Users/username password
Replace username with the targeted user and password with the desired password.
    Reboot
This allows you to reset the password in single user mode without booting from the install media.  The above tip is attributed to Satcomer.
