Reset root password my macbook air

Hello ,
Im trying to reset factory my mabcook air ( using Cmd+R) and it shows a password to enter the recovery mode ,
i have disable my root password but still it keeps apearing..
as far as i rememebr i never set a password in the laptop .
how can i solve this matter.
Regards,

If you see a window with a padlock icon, it's asking for the firmware password, not the root password. If you don't know that password, take the machine to an Apple Store to have it removed. You may be asked for proof of ownership.

  • Resetting admin password on MacBook Air

A friend of mine has a first generation MacBookAir. I advised her to have an admin account as well as a normal account for her daily work. Now she has forgotten her admin password and I am wondering how to reset it. She does not have the external DVD-drive. If she had, she could use the install disk. Is there any other way to reset it?
She's also not living close by. Would it be viable to try it via a remote install via internet?
    Thanks a lot.

It is my experience, though, that this is a bad thing in the long run. After she does this, make, again, another new admin account. Then delete any of the originals. You can pass across iTunes and iPhoto libraries through the Shared folder.

Well, with the install disk, she can use Utilities->Reset Password, but without a USB Superdrive this does not help. Is she near an Applestore? They can re-set it for her.

Or, you can copy your Install Disk to a USB drive, mail it to her and have her boot from the USB and then use Utilities->Reset Password
(to copy to a USB, use Disk Utility. Make the USB a GUID Partition, then in the Restore Tab, drag the DVD to Source, and USB Disk to Destination, test, and mail).

I want to up date Adobe Flash Player on my Mac Air. I need to reset my Adobe password.  How do I do that?

  • Retrieving/resetting my account password for MacBook Air OS X 10.9.4 when FileVault is NOT switched on?

    Hey all,
I've encountered a major problem since purchasing my MacBook Air OS X Mavericks 10.9.4. As I was previously using a Pro with an account password that used to work just fine, I decided to simply set the Air with the same credentials. However, the password I have no recollection of changing is not accepted by my Air. Without it I cannot install any new software and I need several programs urgently. Trouble is, my FileVault is not switched on nor can it be switched on. I cannot reset the password either, as doing so requires me to type in my current one.
    What do I do?
    Kind regards,
    Elena

If you're not using FileVault 2, then FileVault 2 is not involved.   Either use your Apple ID to reset your password, or Method 1 here should get your password reset to one you know.

  • How to create/reset root password on OSX Yosemite

    Hi,
I am currently a standard user on a late 2008 Macbook Pro. There are two users on my computer, mine and another admin account. I do not know the password to the admin account. Before I upgraded to OSX Yosemite I had created a root user password in SUM using the command "passwd". After I upgraded (I reset my computer) I was back at square one, me as a standard user and another admin account that I didn't know the password. After I upgraded the “passwd” command didn’t work.
I tried to obtain the root password using multiple SUM commands like, "rm /var/db/ .AppleSetupDone" which didn't work because it said that it couldn't find the file. Then I tried to use the command, “/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.opendirectoryd.plist” and then entering “passwd”. However that didn’t work. (Everything I did was after I mounted the drive.)
So I was wondering if anyone on the forums knew of a way for a standard user to reset the root password without the knowledge of the admin password.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey SamuraiPizzzaCat,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to use automatic login. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
OS X Yosemite: Login Options pane of Users & Groups preferences
    Automatic login
Choose Off to require users to log in whenever the Mac restarts.
To automatically log in a particular user when the Mac restarts, choose the user’s account name and enter his or her password.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,

  • Forgot FileVault 2 password to Macbook Air, how to reinstall?

I have a recent Macbook Air that has file vault 2 installed. I reset my password this morning, but cannot remember it at all this afternoon. I have all my files backedup so I am not worried about data loss. So I went to do a reinstall from the recovery partition and its asking me for my password... which is the password I do not know. I also do not remember putting the recovery key down anywhere (stupid I know).
How can I just reinstall Mavericks on the system now?

Apple has not provided an easy way to recover from this condition. See this thread.

  • Forgot my login password for macbook air

totally forgot my password to login to my macbook air
    Anyone have help?

Now, the fun part if neither of those is the case.
You can also restart the system holding down the Command and R keys, and then from the utilities that open choose Terminal.
In the Terminal window type exactly:
    resetpassword
    and press return.
In the Reset Password window, choose the user for which you wan to change the password.
Type the new password twice, then do not set a hint, and click Save.
Accept the next dialog that opens, and at the bottom of the Reset Password window Apply.
Then click the apple at the left side of the menu bar and Restart.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
As you have OS X Mountain Lion, try resetting the password from Recovery > http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4101
It looks like OS X was reinstalled. After resetting the password, you will be able to log in and use your MacBook Pro

  • Migrating FireFox passwords to Macbook Air from powerbook G5

Planning to buy macbook air is possible to migrate saved passwords form firefox using the assistant?

Local backups are just that - local to the computer. When your computer backs up to TimeMachine it saves what has been changed since the last backup - not including caches, etc. and that would include local backups.

  • Resetting Firmware Password on Macbook

Hi Guys, Im new to Apple Forums as well as Apple Products.
    My Device Specs:

-Processor  1.4 GHz Intel Core i5

And much later I realised that when I was trying to boot into the OS X Utilities by pressing (Command+R) keys, it just ran into a dead grey lock which after much research, I found out it was a Firmware Password which, I guess, is most probably set by the company or my school. I know that they won't let us have the password so I am asking if you guys know a solution to this problem?

Sorry if im a bother but where can i find the serial no.? I know it's somewhere in the Air's box right?
UPDATE: ok wait nvm... I found it under about this mac! thx @SP Forsythe! will put this solved my question! that link was a great help! im a starter on Macs and now I love it! thxx for your help!
