Reset sequential numbering when importing photos

I'm importing photos with a custom name. I'm trying to get the image #0001 to reset starting at 1. I cancelled the import the first time, so of course LR is now starting the import at a hgher sequential number. Somethng simple please. Any kind of workaround that lets me enjoy the vacation photos and not blow my weekend in front of a computer! Thanks. I see people posting the same question, but haven't found an answer.

I would suggest finishing the import if you haven't already, then select all the photos in this set, and then go to the Library menu: rename, and choose "custom name - sequence," and be sure to enter 1 as start number.
eta: you can also change the start number from the import window if you've chosen one of the options that includes "sequence."

The events may be incorrectly sorted. Try to sort the events by date, while in "Events" view.
Go to the "View" menu: Sort Photos > By Date > Descending. That should bring the most recent events to the top of the list.

Excluding subfolders when importing photos in Photoshop Elements 10

In past versions of Photoshop Elements you could exclude subfolders when importing photos from files and folders. In version 10 the "get photos from subfolders" is greyed out. I normally do not want to include subfolders when importing. I only want the top current folder. Why the change?

Just a further thought.
I have now tried versions 9 and 10 on a Windows 7 system and they both work the same. The "include subfolder" box is not active until I select a folder from the right side - selecting one on the left side doesn't activate it.
Which operating system are you using?
Did you change operating systems when you changed to PSE 10?

When importing photos from iphoto to Aperture 3 it shows two versions of each image. One is original and one is iphoto edited. It shows this for every picture even if it was never edited in iphoto. Has anyone ever experienced this? Is so, what image should I use to edit in iphoto?

This is asked and covered a lot here, a search of the list will bring up numerous other threads covering this. Also the More Like This box on the right side of the page will show you other posts on this topic.

Briefly iPhoto took even the most trivial change to an image as an edit and created a new image. The most common reason for this is rotated images.
As for which image of the two you want to keep, that's entirely up to you. If there is really no difference between the two then you can keep either it makes no difference.
The thread I linked to above will explain how to use Aperture's filters to gather up all of one or the other.

When importing photos from my iPhone black boxes appear in place of random photos in the iPhoto library and in Photostream. It has no apparent pattern, the photos are just blank. It's not just icons, when I go to edit the photos externally in Photoshop it opens an image filled with nothing but black.
This is more than annoying. It's effectively deleting photos I'm taking on vacation and so forth.
Anyone?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Iphoto crashes when importing photos? (no 3ivx. plugin found??)

hi, i have just got a canon 7d and often when importing photos into iphoto 11, (version 9.3.1) iphoto crashes, no matter how many times i try it fails to import, i have searched but not found the 3ivx. plug in that seems to have caused everyone the same problem and when iphoto does import my photos, every 10 photos is courupted and comes up black? i am shooting in raw (.CR2) any help or suggestions would be great thanks.
P.S. i am trying to put off updating to the latest iphoto update because i have almost 40,000 images/videos and whenever i have to update my library iphoto freaks out and i end up having to create a new library and import all photos from scratch which takes me days which i simply dont have......

HT4623 Iphone 4s access denied error message when importing photos

ok got iphone 4s in feb have used windows live photo gallery to import since i got the phone and never had any problems started having problems with itunes not working say it was on a locked disk and/or didint have write permissions fixed this with a total uninstall and reinstall of itunes and now that works fine but at the same time the itunes stopped working i started getting an access denied error when importing photos via usb via windos live photo gallery i was however able to import my husbands photos from his ipad three days ago the same way i do my iphone and it worked fine with the ipad but not my iphone so here is what i do click for click i plug in the iphone via usb and the autoplay and itunes starts. i close itunes and go to autoplay click on import using windows live photo gallery than the pops open i check the folder to import too (which is on an exterial hard drive) and then i click import and it starts to import and on the very first photo and all photos the access is denied error message pops up help please this is driving me crazy that it worked fine one day and now it doesnt work

I too had this error message (and to be honest, it was becoming a bit of a pain). I resolved it in a slightly different way to Terence.
I had 10 photos that were allegedly unreadable; however, as Terence rightly says, they are duplicates. When I opened iPhoto I mad a note of each of the files concerned and did a Spotlight search throughout my hard drive.
For each photo, there were four or five duplicates. I deleted all but one of each of the photos and then reopened iPhoto. No more error message.
The original problem stemmed from importing my files directly from an external device I was using with a previous computer [that was running XP].
Anyway, hope this helps.

When you import to Aperture using this method you get all the versions that iPhoto has - Mster and Edited version. If you haven't edited the photo then tow possibilities:
A: the photo is Raw and you'e gettting the automatic preview that iPhoto creates on import as well
B: The shot has an auto-rotate tag from the camera

Sequential Numbering on Import?

Does anyone know if the Sequential Numbering option, in the LR 3 Import window, have the ability to remember the last sequential number used and then restart at the next sequential number when you load a new card or import new images? Photo Mechanic has this ability and so does Aperture. In the new LR 3 a window comes up to give you the ability to tell the system what number you want to start with but after the import of images it does not change to the new sequential number that it should be after loading a group of images. It actually stays at the number you input although it does number the new photo files correctly, in a running sequence. My reason for wanting to do this is that I started with PM and have always used an ongoing running number system that I hope to continue with LR. It seems all the necessary elements are in place for LR 3 to do what I want but for some reason it doesn't' go all the way and recall the last used number of a sequence. I'm hoping I'm just missing a check mark somewhere that somebody can tell me about.

You don't normally have to change these numbers. These are starting numbers for the {Import#} and {Image#} tokens respectively.
Whenever you import something using these token for renaming at import, these increment automatically: {Import#} by one for each import session and {Image#} by one for each imported image. Incrementation spans multiple sessions.
What you need is to set up a filename template in Import that contains the {Image#} token.
NOTE: Due to a bug in LR 3.x, avoid using the other {Sequence#} token, which like the {Image#} token, but does not span multiple sessions, but rather is initialized at each import with the "Start number" that you set in import dialog. Make sure the "Start number" is set to 1, even if you don't have the {Sequence#} token.

Sequential numbering of imported scanned images in Aperture 2.1.4?

I have a large number of old photographs which I want to import into Aperture 2.1.4. via a scanner, (Lexmark P4350) and I would like them to be sequentially numbered preferably into the Version Name field but any field would do. At the moment they are kind of numbered as "Scan 01" "Scan 02" etc., but this only applies to each session I do—going back to "Scan 01" for the next session. Is there any way that this can be achieved so that all the imported images are sequentially numbered? I did wonder whether or not an Automator script would do it but I have not worked out how to use Automator! I am using Image Capture to scan and import into Aperture. Any help would be great. Thanks

This should be extremely easy to do with a custom name template after import into Aperture - you can choose to rename just the version or the file names as well. There are many different templates you can set up and each one containing a sequence will retain it's own count and pick up where it left off.
This post is for export but it works the same way for version and file-renaming, you can do it at the time of import or after using the metadata batch change function.

Error when importing photos/videos from iphone 4 into Picassa.....

When attempting to import photos and videos from iphone 4 into Picassa (v3.8) I get the following error message:
"An error has occurred while attempting to import. Either the source is unavailable or the destination is full or read only. (1)"
Any thoughts? I know this is an iphone specific issue as I was successfully able to import from another camera.
P.S Quicktime up to date and quicktime movies checked in Picassa.

I have the same issue. It started only after the most recent iPhone update though, leading me to think it's the phone, not iPhoto.
The pictures that do import are streaked/blurry with terrrible colour. I can still send them via email but they're smaller files.
Does anyone know another way to get my full-res pictures off my iPhone?
[edit] I found out that I could use Apple's Image Capture software, which worked like a charm but the pictures themselves are a mess. I'll have to try resetting.

Continuing Index numbers when adding photos

Does anyone know if it is possible to continue the index numbering when adding additional photos to a folder in which the photos were names with a custom name with index. To be clear, if the last photo in the folder is, for example, 'Big Ben 22', can I add more photos at a later date and have the new ones start at 'Big Ben 23....24....25 etc etc.
I am finding that it just starts at 1 again and doubles up - ie. there are then 2 x 'Big Ben 1' etc

IPhoto crasht when importing photos and now it doesn't open anymore. Please help!

I was importing photos in iPhoto, when the program crasht. I tried to restart it, but it never opend. I installed it again and again and made a software update - still doesn't work. What can I do? Please help!
