Reset Site Collection to Template selection page

Hi
I want to reset a site collection to a point where its possible to select the site collection from a template.
Previously, in the Site Settings I selected Reset to site definition, I was expecting to ne able to navigate to the site collection and see the site collection template page but instead no page was found.
So how is this possible, will I have to create a new site collection every time? (I dont have access to CA)

Reset to Site Definition simply reverts any "Ghosted" pages to the original formats stored on the file server in the site definition that was used to originally build the site. It essentially removes all customizations that have been made
in SharePoint Designer. There is no way to pick a different template for an existing Site Collection. The only way to get a different template is to delete the existing site collection (and all of its content) and then create a new site collection
with a different template. Templates are blueprints that are used to build a site. Once the site is built you can't change the original blueprint used.

Site collection as template

I have an Intranet Site in SharePoint 2013. I have created site collection for a department. I need to save this department site collection as site collection template. So that I can use this template for different departments. how can I do that ?

Hi,
The OOTB feature “Save site as template” can only save the current site(not including sub sites) as a template, if your department site is only a site without sub sites in it,
this feature will be suitable for you.
For the site level Managed Navigation, a term set can only be used by a single site collection for navigation.
As a workaround, you can create term sets for each site collection, then associate them with the newly created site, all this can be done with PowerShell.

Site Collections shows a blank page and sometimes doesnt show anything

We are having this issue, it happens sometimes and sometimes not.
With the site collection, it shows sometimes that the page cannot be found and a subsite sometimes shows a blank page instead of the site. I saw this article that describes the issue and it is regarding the authentication method, what else can be?

According to your description, my understanding is that your site collection sometimes got a blank page and sometimes didn't.
Whether you have configured AAM (Alternate Access Mappings) for your web application. If yes, please check your process. You can refer to the link:

In addition, please check the log to find whether there are some messages about this issue. The path of the log file is: C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15.

Creating new site collection using wsp template fails

Hi all,
I'm creating new site collections using a wsp solution generated by "save as template".
For site collection creation I select "<Select template later>" then I upload the wsp solution.
Everything worked until last month, now after CU installation (agoust 2014) I get an error:
"List does not exist. The page you selected contains a list that does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user."
Does anyone know how to solve it?

Event Receiver for all Page Libraries in a Site Collection

We have a single site collection with many different page libraries. I'd like to create a single event receiver for ALL page libraries in the site collection (850- Page Library). Can you do this?
The event receiver will essentially remove/expire something we have stored in the System.Web.HttpRuntime.Cache. We are caching the content in the Page Library and would only like to expire the cache when a new page or change is performed on some

Custom Color coding of SharePoint Calendar does not work on a site collection that uses olso master page

Hi,
I created a color coded calendar following instructions below specified at the below URL.

however, My Site collection uses oslo master page and because it does not show quick launch, I don't see the legend of the color coded colors.
Is it possible to make above solution work with oslo master page?

Can you provide a screenshot of your page about how the calendar looks like in your environment?
As you said, “I don't see the legend of the color coded colors”, is it mean that the list of overlays on the right side of the page disappears when applying oslo master
page?
In my environment, after applying the oslo master page and adding overlay to the current Calendar view, it will be like this:
It turns out that the list of overlays still there.

To create a site collection, you must be a member of the Farm Administrators SharePoint group on the computer that is running the SharePoint Central Administration website.
Start SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
For Windows Server 2008 R2:
Click Start, click Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Products, and then click
SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
For Windows Server 2012:
On the Start screen, click SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
If SharePoint 2013 Central Administration is not on the
Start screen:
Right-click Computer, click All apps, and then click

In the Primary Site Collection Administrator section, type the user name (in the form DOMAIN\username) for the user who will be the site collection administrator.
In the Secondary Site Collection Administrator section, type the user name for the secondary administrator of the site collection.
Designating a secondary site collection administrator is a best practice to ensure that someone can manage the site collection when a primary site collection administrator is not present.

To get all Site Collections:
If all you want is a list of all site collections in the farm, all you have to do is open a PowerShell window, load the SharePoint Snapin, if you haven't (Add-PSSnapin
Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell), and type Get-SPSite.
If you want to return the list of site collections for a specific web application, the easiest way is to just pipe it as Get-SPWebApplication

Regrading the retrieving the last activity I am not sure to what exactly you are looking for but I assume you are concern about getting users last logon time and date using PowerShell.

I cant see 'audit log report' link in my Site Collection Administration

Hi i am configuring my sharepoint 2013, i want to use the audit feature, so i follow the steps
View audit log reports
To view an audit log report:
On the Settings menu, click Site settings.
Note The Site Collection Administration section will not be available if you do not have the necessary permissions, such as by being a member of the default Site Collections Administrators group.

My macbook pro started acting strange after a safari reset. the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from the 'top sites' page.

the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from safari 'top sites' (without a hassle). attempts to reset dock and hot corners from preferences has been fruitless
the mouse also gets 'stuck' in logic precipitating force quits.
i run osX 10.6.8 on a 2007 macbook pro that has had 2 motherboards replaced autumn 2010.
my troubleshooting has been: restart, pRam and safe boot, also checking a 'test' account to find the same issues extant.
pRam restart caused airport to quit and say there is no airport card, and wouldn't respond untill another reboot.
macbook pro 15" 2.4 GHz intel core duo.2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
i have treated this book with care, yet run logic pro studio to the limit of this book's abilities.
what shoud i do?

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).

How can I allow users to view any Wiki Pages inside my enterprise wiki site collection, as PDF files

We are working on an enterprise wiki site collection, and users start adding wiki pages and link them together. But a new requirement was raised by the customer, to allow users to be able to convert any wiki page to pdf file and save the pdf file to their
local PCs. They are suggesting to add a link or an option inside the upper ribbon , named “Make as PDF”, and once clicked they can view the current wiki as a pdf file.
Not sure what are the capabilities of SharePoint 2013 to do so ? and is there any third paryt tools that allow doing similar tasks ?

If you want to save as PDF, could you not use a PDF printer, so the procedure would be to 'Print this page' and the user then selects their PDF printer and where they want to save the file.
but in this way the user will have the page header footer, left navigation included in the pdf file. while i want to extract the body only. i so not think you apprach will work for my requirements

Unable to Create site collections with any template

Hi All,
We are using SharePoint 2013 , after long time am tried for create new BI center in one of our web application , but its taking more then 10 mints , the page is loading more then 10 mints , after that i just refresh the page and i got a error "Sorry
this site was created already with this name".
so , i try to enter the new site URL am getting error the page is not valid .
i thought this was on issue with requirements on BI Center , so i checked the web application associated service application , but i have Visio Graphics service application , Excel Service Application and Performance point service application running for
this web application .
after some time i tried to create team site template site collection , i am facing the same issue again , i really dont know what is the issue with my CA , can any one help me to solve this issue ASAP.
i tried to create site collection from PowerShell also , but am facing the same issue , even i got the same error while try to create sub site. i tried with refreshing IIS also , but its not worked.
Am waiting for your valuable response .

Hello Mani L,
Please make a host entry on you WFE server for the URL of the site you are trying to create. Then try browsing the site from same server.
- First check if the binding is correctly configure in Alternate Access mapping on Central administration
- Same binding should be provided under IIS for the web application
If this doesn't resolve the issue then, for testing create a host entry for central admin hostheader url.
To do this follow below mentioned steps:
Go to Start -> Run -> Type drivers
open HOSTS file in a notepad
type IP address of the APP server and beside that with a tab key type URL of the site
Save the file and try to browse the site in a fresh new browser after closing all the browser.
Where SharePoint.com is my Host Header URL and IP address is the server IP where the site is hosted (APP Server generally)

Template.xsn. Access to locations on different site collections is blocked for security reasons

I am using sharepoint 2010 onpremise.
I created a custom list, content type and columns. After this I go to the list and click on the infopath button in the ribbon to customize the form. I changed the form and published to the server.
Now I get this error when I go to some page where I have added a infopath webpart:
The following location is in a different site collection:
http://www.myCompany.nl/someSubsite/Lists/VraagEnAntwoord/VraagEnAntwoord/template.xsn. Access to locations on different site collections is blocked for security reasons. For more information, contact your site administrator.
This website has anonymous access.
I have googled and found many people with this problem, but I dont find some solution. Someone talk about create a template from infopath and then publish it to a content type. I dont understand this solution. Can someone help?

You are actually running an older version of Firefox (8). You should update to Firefox 9.0.1 and see if that helps

Custom template available across multiple site collections

I have created a custom site template which I need to be available across multiple site collections. Is there a global area where I can put the .wsp file so that I can use it within any site collection.
I also have a custom document library which I need to be available from with the site made from the custom site template mentioned above - Is there a global area where I can put the .stp file so that I can use it within any site within any site collection.

This will really depend how the template has been packaged. If it's a content type, than editing this and making sure that the "update content type" radio is selected will do the trick. Can you ask someone who's made one to show you how they generate
the template. If it's within the New --> XXX Document, than you're in luck
If they're just deployed as normal files within a library, you'll have a much harder time.
