Reset Sync History

I would like to change choice for syncing calender to "merge data." Current sync replace phone entries with computers.
Resetting sync history does not cause ITunes to ask for sync choices of contacts and calendar as Apple documentation suggest.
Any suggestions would be apprecited. Searched forums but could not find answer. Thanks.

Roamingnome,
I got the "choices" concept based upon information as follows from Apple documentation.
"Reset Sync History
If you find that some of your data syncs to your device but you see an unexpected number of changes or modifications, you may need to reset your sync history. This causes iTunes to prompt to Merge or Replace information on the device when you next attempt to sync your information. To reset your Sync History:
Open iTunes.
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
Click the Devices tab.
Click the Reset Sync History button."
If it merges by default, then perhaps I have a different problem. Still seeking advice. Thanks.

  • "Reset sync history" does not work

I am trying to fix an issue where my iPhone no longer syncs to my outlook 2007. Many posts suggest resetting sync history in iTunes, but when I click on "reset sync history", absolutely nothing happens. Something is broken. All suggestions welcome.

  • Problem with reset sync history

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem syncing with MobileMe on my MacPro workstation with Mac OS X 10.6.3 and everything current. When I go into iSync preferences and press the "reset sync history" button, it never seems to finish. Even if I reboot and then try to repeat it, the "reset sync history" button is grayed out, which suggests to me that it is still running. How can I fix this?

This just started working on its own.

  • Will i lose all music on iPod classic if i reset sync history?

If i "reset sync history" will I lose all of my music on iPod?

    Hi PhyllisT,
This will not erase the music on your iPod, but the next time you connect iTunes will act like it's the first time that you have connected the iPod and you'll have to do all of your sync preferences again.  Is this part of troubleshooting?

  • Reset Sync History Grey'd out...

In an effort to cure the iCal error...
"Calendars could not be synced due to inconsistent data. Confirm your computers data is valid then reset calendars on MobileMe in System Preferences."
..I decided to try resetting my sync history in iSync but when I do (iSync > Preferences) both the check box next to "Enable sync on this computer" and the "Reset Sync History" button are grey'd out.
Any idea what could be causing this?

Try turning off the syncing in the preferences of the programs that use it first. Then go back to ISync preferences and see if the check box is active

  • I cannot select sync for contacts. I had a previous issue which suggested I reset sync history now I can't select an email account or where to sync contacts.

I cannot select sync for contacts. I had a previous issue which suggested I reset sync history and now I can't select an email account or where to sync contacts. I check the checkbox but no email accounts are present to select.  My iPhone4 has all the contacts & mail account and runs ok.
Part of the solution to the previous problem was to delete (really I moved it) the contents of the backup folder.  Now I get this message "iTunes was unable to load data class infromation from Sync Services".  I moved the folders and files back and it did not help.

An alternate email isn't a rescue email, and it isn't possible to add an actual rescue email without correctly answering two of the questions. If you're desperate enough, create a new Apple ID; you won't be able to transfer previous purchases or iTunes Store credit to it.

Thanks John, you're a star! it's back to normal, it was hours last night resetting my iphone but no luck. I reset my sync services this morning and it works!
Why have Apple made it so difficult to do this, why hide things away? I spent ages looking for my library the other day as that was hidden! Mad!
    Much appreciated John,

  • Can anyone help me with reset sync history problem in iTunes?

I'm trying to reset my iTune sync history.  I used to be able to do it isn iTunes Preferances, but that is no longer an option.  I understand that you have to go to Terminal now and type in the following:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
I tried that, but I got an response stating that there is no such folder.  What do I do now?
How do I reset my sync history?
I'm using a MacBook Pro with Mavericks as the operating system.
    Many thanks

Hi Cristian, thanks for responding so speedily!
On the homepage, click on the 'diagrammatic' thumbnail for example, then click on the 'volcano' thumbnail, when the volcano page appears, you should see the little magnifying glass plus rollover image under the main image to the right.   As I said, on these specific pages, in IE 7 the symbol jumps to the top left of the main image.
For your info, I have seen this problem on my older XP pc, which runs IE 7.  All is fine on my newer Vista pc, which is using IE8 & Firefox.

  • HT1692 how can reset sync history in itunes 11.0???

Noticed my calendar wasnt syncing to my iPhone 4 & noticed in iTunes that it says that Microsoft Outlook must be installed in order to sync calendars - and it is & it was syncing just fine until recently!
On top of that when syncing I get a message 'itunes was unable to load data class information from sync services. Reconnect or try again later.'
So I read somewhere that the latest version of Quick time should be installed (it wasnt) so I installed it & it made no difference.
Meanwhile my itunes wont launch immediately - its running in processes in the taskmanager, then it says 'not responding' & then finally launches some 5 minutes later!
Im not tech savy & my head is hurting!!!!!
PLEASE HELP ME!  I have removed & reinstalled itunes to no avail.

The instructions for Mountain Lion from the article are
In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
    Open Terminal.
In the Terminal window, type or paste the following command on a single line:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
    Press Return.
Quit Terminal after the operation has completed (when Terminal returns to the command prompt with a $).

  • HT1386 I am unable to get a two way calendar sync with my iPhone 4s and my mac's ical.  iTunes syncs my mac's calendar to the phone, but not the other way.  I do not use iCloud and I cannot find any menu for removing sync history as described by others.

I have spent 3 hours trying to get my ical updated on my mac with events added to my iphone calendar. Itunes will sync the calendars from the mac to the phone, but not vice versa.  I have read every post which relates to this problem, but I do not use iCloud, there is no iSync app on my mac, and there is no menu to delete sync history under system preferences.  My mac is fairly new and is running Mac OS X 10.7.4.   I tried to delete the iphone from itunes and start over, but can't even do that.   Now what?  Any advice short of throwing both devices out the window?

For resetting the sync history on a Mac running Lion - 10.7.x if needed.

If you see the Sync menu in the menu bar, skip to step 3:
If you do not see the Sync menu in your menu bar, skip to step 7.
Hold the Option key on your keyboard, then click the Sync menu in the menu bar:
if you see the Sync menu but you are unable to open it, skip to step 8.
    Choose Reset Sync Services.
    Click Reset Sync History.
Test for the original issue. If the issue persists, or if you are unable to open the Sync menu, follow these steps:
In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
    Open Terminal.
In the Terminal window, type or paste the following command on a single line:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
    Press Return.
Quit Terminal after the operation has completed (when Terminal returns to the command prompt with a $).

  • Resetting Sync Preferences

About a week ago I went on your phone discussion about how to reset the sync to my address book. It was explained that I had to reset the phone to itunes to get this done. As of now when I sync my windows address book whipes out all the new information on my phone. I saved and restarted the phone under my existing phone name. However, the preference could not be reset at this stage. Do I need to create another ID for my phone in order to reset this and other preferences?

Just realised when reading other peoples problems that it is not actually letting me reset sync history???

  • Syncing my phone it says I have conflicts when then I get the message "Unable to retrieve conflict information from the sync server.  Please try again next treset Sync history and hasn't helped.

When syncing my phone it says I have contact conflicts which I try to resolve and then I get the message "Unable to retrieve conflict informaiton from the sync server.  Please try again next time the conflict resolver window is presented".  I have reset the Sync History but hasn't helped.  Suggestions?

    Here is the solution.
Rationale: You want to be able to have the dates on your items (notes, contacts) on your iphone to be the same as on outlook.  This will eliminate any sync conflicts.  You will also notice that if you modify something on the iphone and sync, you will lose the modification you made.
    Steps:
    1) In outlook, export the data (contacts, notes) to a CSV file
    2) Delete you notes/contacts in outlook
    3) Sync your iphone and select replace information on this iPhone (in iTunes)
    4) Now your contacts and notes will be empty on both your iPhone and Outlook
    5) Now import your contacts and notes from the CSV files back into outlook.  What this does is put the current date and time on every individual item
    6) Sync your iPhone to iTunes normally
    7) everything will work correctly now with no sync issues and no conflicts.
