Reset to Turn On

My iPod will no longer turn on by depressing any given button. Every time I wish to turn it on, I must do a reset and wait for the machine to reboot.
I did a search of the threads but only found the ON/OFF question addressed when the unit wouldn't either turn on at all or turn off at all. Mine works fine as long as I do a complete reset everytime I turn it on. It used to, in fact, wake up at the place I left off simply when I toggled the lock switch back into the UNLOCKED position.
On another thread someone suggested a software update. Has there been one recently that addressed this issue? Whenever I ask iTunes to check for updates, it tells me that I have the most current update. Should I just be downloading something else from the downlaods page or will my iPod/iTunes do this automatically?
Thanks.
Frodis

These things get bumped off the first page and disappear pretty quickly without getting a chance at an answer. It's no wonder everyone just keeps creating new threads asking the same questions over and over and ...
Would someone please take a whack at answering this question for me, please?

    Hi there,
Firstly, try a hard reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
If this doesn't work, try restoring your device. Put it in recovery mode if iTunes doesn't recognise it, and restore it from there. I have linked to instructions below.

Let me know if this helps,

    - Try restoring the iPod from backup
    - Next restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

My ipad2 hanged while lock, i can't reset or turn it off. What will i do?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

    Any ideas??

Well I have an update. I decided to stay as I was so far down the road. They gave me an engineer appointment of 14 of August which was totally disgusting.
I rang up to complain and was promised a call back as they tried to expediate my request. Never happened.
Whilst on these calls I also questioned the validity of sending another engineer unless they first checked that my local cabinet hard an available fibre port. I was promised and promised that they would put the notes on the call and it would not be a wasted engineer visit.
Engineer came today. Wasted visit - no ports on the cabinet.
He was not even sure why he was sent there knowing there were no ports. Talk about the blind leading the blind.
The incompetency of this corporation is absolutely astounding even when their customers are telling them they are going to fail they lie to your face just to appease you on the phone and move you on.
So I ordered my switch from sky to BT on June 6th.. and so far all I have is a phone line.
On top of this I noticed that they have charged me a late payment fee by DD and full line rental for first month. BT were so slow at installing it all that my up front line rental apparently did not cover their initialy switch over. Despite telling me I would not be charged I have been charged.
Now as a web designer I am now tempted to create basic website and use my SEO skills to push it to top of google rankings sharing with everyone of my experience of BT.

That is why I said to restore via iTunes, did you check the link?
This will put it back to factory settings and you can set it up with the new ID once you reconnect with your HDTV. This is not done via ethernet, as per the link you need to connect to the computer via micro usb. You cannot bypass home sharing.
FYI: An Apple ID cannot be deleted so the old one would still exist (even if you no longer use the email account it is associated with).

  • Apple reset screen turns on and off.

I had my iPod plugged to my home stereo (via headphone jack). I was playing some songs to practice with my instrument. I needed to upload another song so I unplugged it from the stereo and connected it to my PC. When it sync'ed with iTunes, it detected it as another iPod and all the music was erased. I unplugged it and reseted it.
Then the apple screen came on, then the backlight came on. Then it turned off. Then the apple screen came on, then the backlight came on. Then it turned off.
This cycle repeated itself until the battery drained. Then I plugged it back, charged for a while and the cycle started over again.
I searched the forum for similar problems but found none. I really need my iPod, as it is my main tool to practice with my instrument.
    Thanks.

  • TS1398 My Ipad was working but I now can't access the internet. I have tried resetting and turning Wifi on and off.  It is just showing as buffering all the time?  Please help

My Ipad was working on the internet but it now won't connect.  I have tried resetting the network and turning Wifi on and off.  When trying to connect it is continuously buffering.  Can anyone please help??  Thanks in advance

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • IPad will not reset or turn off

My iPad is stalled out. The reset button is not working and the screen will not turn off. How do I fix this problem?

    Hey yourbabs,
These are the recommended troubleshooting steps for when your iPad appears frozen or unresponsive:
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

  • Ipod Nano (3rd Gen) Contstantly needing reset to turn on

This is my first Ipod and I am very disappointed in that I constantly have to reset it to turn it on. It has charge and can take numerous attempts to turn on by resetting. Am I doing something wrong - or do I need to send it back?
I am resetting it by switching the hold on/off and then holding down Menu&Middle Button.

My new 3rd Gen iPod has this very same problem. It needs constant resetting - in particular when it's been off for a while (e.g. overnight). I've upgraded the firmware to 1.1 and have also restored the iPod using iTunes, but it hasn't rectified the problem.
It was a present, so can I take it back and get it replaced?

  • Why did my screen turned white after i turn it off and it wont reset or turn off

  • 27 iMac (2012) crashes and requires smc reset to turn on

My late 2012 iMac, i7 16gig RAM 27 inches keeps shutting down. It looks like as if it was unplugged. Happens randomly. Sometimes while playing Diablo 3, surfing facebook or using iphotos or other apps. Seems to not crash if just left on overnight and not been used.
In order to turn it on again I have to unplug it from the power line for like 30 seconds, only then it starts.
I have the settings set to restart on power failure, but it does not.
Happened a few times a few months back. I have installed a surge protector and it worked fine for like a month or two. However last 2 days it has shut down like 10 times...
Help would be greatly appreciated. I suspect hardware failure.

    Hey guys,
hate to say it, but nothing you will do will fix this problem.
I have had it for more than a year, along with corrupting graphics. Random crashes. Try this. . . .When it happens next, when you first turn your computer on, try a PRAM Reset when it boots for the first time after the crash. I bet it crashes for you again before it can complete the PRAM reset.
I have had my logic board replaced twice and my power supply once. Now the most recent fix, (logic board and power supply) has failed too and it's now crashing again after a month and half of being stable since the repair.
I just called Apple and they are replacing with a current model imac with same upgrades, honouring the upgraded processor and video card I had in there.n
The tech said on the phone that my call was pretty much going to make this become a "known issue". Get your replacement and don't put up with a buggy build.
