Reseting animated GIF ?

I want to use animated gifs as MouseOver in rollover buttons.
Somehow when I put this together the animation only works for the
first time I do the MouseOver. - the anim gifs in the Mouse over
state are set with an end state- not looping. I want the sequense
to restart every time I have a MouseOut and then go back with
MouseOver.
I get this to work if i dont put in preload images as default
but then I will have problems with delays instead. Do anyone know
how to solwe this problem ??
Greetings from Sweden !

whether an animated gif replays is a browser preference
setting. There's
nothing you can do in html to control it afaik.
many browsers have this setting at something like "play once"

  • Animated GIF - Sync, Control, or Reset?

I have a CP7 project with animated GIFs in it. The GIFs are invisible by default and become visible through an advanced action (Show) attached to a Button object on the same slide. But when I preview the slide and click the Button, the GIFs start animating in the middle of the sequence instead of at the beginning. Is there a way to tell Captivate to start those GIFs over when the button is clicked, or to not start the animation until the objects become visible? I could swear I've done this before but I can't seem to recall how I made it work properly.

I've been wrestling with this for a while, and I thought I would share this if it helps anyone besides me:
If an animated GIF is set to be NOT "Visible in output," then the animation will wait until a "Show" command causes the GIF to be displayed.
HOWEVER, at that "Show" command, ALL instances of the Library item representing that GIF will start (even if you have other instances still hidden).
I worked around this by duplicating my animated GIF in the filesystem, then loading it into the library as different instances. Once I did this, each Library item had its own GIF timing, which allowed me to make sure each GIF started the animation when I showed it and not before. That achieved the desired functionality.

  • Animated Gif - Save for web not showing full frame range

    Hey,
I'm trying to export an animated gif with 52 frames - I'm using the timeline in CS6, it's exported correctly in the past but when I try and save for web only a seemingly arbitrary number of rames appear in the animation. With no clear route to rectify this, I've tried to affect the outcome by simply moving things around on the timeline.
I've had a variety of frame ranges (and frames) numbering between 2 and 6 frames, far off my 52 target. It's a simple image and equally simple transition to keep filesize down but I'm completely bamboozled by this. It looks like a bug but any advice I could get would be much appreciated.

If it worked in the past with CS6 try resetting your CS6 Photoshop Preferences.  If you still have the problem after that.  Up load the PSD file to a server and post a link to it.

  • Animated .gif file correction and image ready help.

    Hi,
I have an animated gif created in an early verison of Image Ready & Photoshop. I need to make some changes. I have two problems.
A: Can't figure how to do it in the current version of Photoshop.
B: Open in the old image ready version, can't find the Layers pallet. I turn it on and off and it doesn't appear.
Trying to recreate a rotating .gif file any pointers or how to's?
    Thanks,
    John

You didn't say which version of ImageReady, but cs5 should open
most animated gifs from ImageReady and show the frames in the
Window>Animation panel. Some may not work right depending on
how old the version of ImageReady was that created them.
(you may have to resave the animation in ImageReady as a psd file)
In ImageReady try Window>Workspace>Reset Palette Locations and the layers
    palette should be visible.
In ImageReady, in the actions palette, are several actions to rotate (spin) images.

  • Saving Animated .GIF Incorrectly?

Please help! I am trying to save an animated .gif with images
that will rotate through every 1 second.
Here is what I am doing...what am I doing wrong???!!!!
Step 1: I create two frames
Step 2: I add one image to each frame
Step 3: I change the frame delay from the default 7/100 to
100/100, which should be one second
Step 4: I save the image as an animated.gif.
For some reason, despite the frame delay being correct, the
image rotates through at an incredibly fast rate. It seems to stay
at the default 7/100 frame delay and I can't correct it. Even if i
save it as a 3500/100 delay, it still rotates very quickly.
Can anybody help me? This is very frustrating!!

There is a bug in the Property Inspector's
Default Export Options that resets frame delays to 7,
whenever you change the options from there. So, don't even touch
it. :-) There are a couple things you could do instead:
When you save the GIF, use Export Preview first
(Ctrl+Shift+X). There, click on the Options tab and select Animated
GIF as the format. Click Export, specify a location and that should
export a GIF with your specified frame delay.
If you really want to set the default export options on the
source PNG, then use the Optimize window (F6). It has exactly the
same interface as the Property Inspector's default export options,
but it doesn't reset the frame delay when you specify "Animated GIF
    WebSnap 128". Go figure...
That's how it works on CS3 here. I hope it will work out for
    you as well. :-)

  • Can't open animated GIF, even with secret trick (psd cs3)

    Hi
I know a lot of people have had trouble with opening animated .gifs in photoshop cs3. I had that problem until I learned the little "trick" you could do (type *.* in "import video frames to layers") and then simply open the gif. This has worked one my computer for some time, but then all of a sudden it stopped working. I thought it was odd and then I formatted my computer and installed a few windows updates and then installed adobe photoshop cs3 and then quicktime. But it still won't open GIF as it used to do. And it's very odd, as my laptop can do it (and it has just been newly reformatted too). I know Adobe's own solution, which is to use fireworks, but I find it to be a crappy program, so I'm not going to use that. I want to be able to import GIFs into photoshop as I used to :/
Hope someone has encountered this problem too. I know a lot of people had been able to use the trick, but I havn't been able to find anyone who has the crash problem.
    Know of this?

sounds like you might have a conflict with QuickTime, seeing as the error is in MODNAME quicktime.qts
first, try resetting the PS prefs. hold CTRL+ALT+SHIFT on launch and then click Yes when prompted. if you have any preferences that you would prefer not to reset, close PS, move the preference files, then launch PS to create new ones. if it's not the problem, you can put them back later. Use the info in kb401600 if you don't know where the preference files are.
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb401600
if resetting the prefs doesn't fix it, make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime installed (7.4.5) and that it can launch without problems. if you have problems using QT, let us know or post on Apple discussions to find a solution.
if you do have the latest version and the problem recently started, it may be that Apple broke something that PS uses in a recent update. uninstall the version you have, delete /program files/quicktime/ folder if it still exists, reboot, download an older version (apple has archived installers; search for "download quicktime 7.3.1 windows" OR "download quicktime 7.1.6 windows" on google to find it), then install it and reboot before trying PS.

  • Safari corrupt transparency in animated GIFs

I am running Safari 4.0.4 under Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on an iMac (mid-2007) and am having issues with animated gifs on websites displaying with fringes of mis-coloured pixels where they should be transparent.
Annoyingly, the issues are intermittent. I can find a bad GIF, see mis-coloured pixels, refresh the cache and sometimes it will be fine, sometimes it will show mis-coloured pixels again but in different places and colours.
Here are two screenshots of the issue. I have cropped the GIF, zoomed it 200% and saved it static for you to see the problem.
    Example 1 : http://www.dcoffey.co.uk/images/BadGif1.jpg
This was supposed to be an animated GIF of the Scottish flag and about every 2s (which is the length of the animation), the border of mis-coloured pixels flashes off then back again.
    Example 2 : http://www.dcoffey.co.uk/images/BadGif2.jpg
This was a snapshot of an animated GIF from DeviantART. The original is here : http://TheUncle2k.deviantart.com/art/glomppoke-146127118
When I save the GIF to Desktop and view the individual frames in Preview, they all look perfect but if I hold the cursor down and let it flick through them all, I get the corruption appearing occasionally (Example 2 original shows it on the second frame of the original).
    Any clues?

    HI Daniel,
Run the Apple Hardware Test from your iMac install disc to make sure it's not a video or graphics card problem.

If everything is ok there boot from your install disc and run Disk Utility to make sure there aren't any errors on the the startup disk.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.

Make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.

  • Non-looping animated gif issue....

Hi, I have an issue with animated gif files where they do not replay correctly when I return to the slide that contains them. They play fine the first time viewed, but not if you return to it. It seems the only way I'm able to keep the gif playing is if I set it to endlessly loop. And if I do that, the animation doesn't start from the beginning when I return to the slide. I just want the animation to start over and play from the beginning once every time I go back to the slide.
My animations were made in Flash and exported as gif animations. I'm using Captivate 7 and my client needs the course to be all HTML5 (no Flash).
Has anyone been able to get a animated gif (not set to loop) to play correctly (meaning from the beginning of it) if you return to the slide after viewing it already?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Hey Rick, thanks for your reply. I liked you idea and had hope, but I tried this and it had no effect. What I have figured out from testing however is that if I go back 1 to 5 slides and return to the animation slide it doesn't reset and just shows the last slide of the animation only. But if I go back 6 or more it does reset the animation. That's very strange! I tested this several times and got the same result. I wonder if there is a buffer of memory of some sort that drops slide info after 5 slides? Or something stranger?

  • Open and edit animated .gif while preserving frame timing

CS4 Premium Design Edition, Win XP
I was disappointed with the removal of Image Ready from CS3 because although some of the functionality was placed into Photoshop 10, there was no way to open and edit an existing animated .gif while preserving the timing of each individual frame. I was told on the PS forum at the time that I really needed to use Fireworks. I resented that, because I was very happy with Image Ready and I didn't want to have to learn a new application just to gain functionality that had been included in previous versions of PS/IM.
I've now got CS4 Premium Design Edition which of course includs Fireworks... and here's what Help has to say on the subject of imported .gifs.
"Note: When you import an animated GIF, the state delay setting defaults to 0.07 seconds. If necessary, use the States panel to restore the original timing."
This is no use to me. What if I don't know the individual frame timings? What if there are 200 frames with varying timings?
Simple question: which current Adobe product is capable of importing a .gif while retaining the frame timings? If anyone knows, or if I've misunderstood the nature of the Fireworks Help quote above, I'd really appreciate some input here. Thanks :)
Not so simple question: why was an excellent gif-editing application thrown out to have its functionality partially replaced by a bunch of scripts and half-effective workarounds cooked up by desperate users ("import a gif by using the video import and typing *.* into the filename box..")? It's a fair question I think.
    Mark

Hi Bob, that's not glib at all, it's a reasonable question.
I uninstalled it along with everything else when I installed CS3, in the reasonable expectation that whatever replaced IR would be at least equal in functionality.
Perhaps I should just dig out CS2 and install IM from there, but I have some serious reservations about doing so, because I don't know if/how a partial install of CS2 will impact upon my installation of CS4, and I'm not confident of getting support.
I am also curious to know if/why Adobe actually removed basic functionality without replicating or replacing it in their other software. I really want to know: which recent, currently supported Adobe product
should I be using in order to regain this functionality? Or do Adobe no longer produce a geniuinely comprehensive .gif-editing application?

  • Animated GIF ignoring frame timing

I am trying to create simple animated GIFs with a few layers
of text that simply fade in and fade out in sequence. My initial
attempt worked perfectly. Most frames use the default 7/100's of a
second delay as they fade. A few frames were manually set to much
longer delays so that the text pauses, before fading out to be
    replaced by the next text.
When I reopened the file, to adjust the background color, and
then re-saved it, the GIF now plays straight through, ignoring the
timing of each frame. Nothing I do now can get it to pause on the
appropriate frames. I've tried cutting the symbols out and pasting
them into a new file, removing the animation from the symbols and
    reapplying it, etc.
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Thanks in advance.

    None, None.

    Hi,
How can I edit an animated gif in Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac?

I can't drag the single frames from Preview to PSE, because PSE 6 doesn't run in window mode.
(Is this improved in the current version?)
I can only drag the single frames to the desktop (as TIFF files, I guess transparency info is lost then?).

What's the default frame delay rate? Maybe it's just what I need.

Yes that's maybe a better idea. It doesn't have to be free software. Can you recommend something good?

No, only regular static GIF images are supported. The desktop version of Photoshop does support this however.

  • Animated GIFs are ridiculously large - why?

    Hi all,
I cannot figure out why the animated GIFs I am exporting are
so massive in file size. For example, I import a small 5-frame
650Byte GIF. I edit the size of the canvas to pad it to a square
(from 54x40 to 54x54, or something like that), then I save it with
    the following settings:
    Animated GIF
    Exact Palette
    0 Loss
4 Colours (5 including alpha channel)
    No dither
And it comes out as 64.4KB. How can the file size increase by
100 times with barely any change? Even if I import it, change
nothing and save the file with the same settings as above, it's
still 64.4KB. Is Fireworks padding the file with unnecessary
    information or something?
    Thanks for any help,
    John.

  • Animated gifs in PS CS6

Hi all, I am trying to save animated gifs from PS, I can get it to work fine when the layers are just flat layers, but I need to create the animated gif when I have layer folders... Ie layer 1 will have a graphic and some text, layer 2 different graphic and different text. But I have to create lots of banners each with a slight change on the text. So I want to keep the text editable so its quick to just chnage the text and then save another animated gif. But when I try and create frames from layers its bringing all the bits from the layer as different frames ie the graphic is one frame then the text is one frame etc. Is it possible to create the animated gif while still having layer folders or does it just work if they are flat layers?

Hi thanks for the reply, i didnt think it was really working, but now I have had a play, it does work and its pretty easy to change the text, it does pop open another photoshop file to edit the text, but it works ok.
    Thanks
