Reseting iCal

I tried to reset my calendar - following the advice here - https://discussions.apple.com/message/5792903#5792903
I've deleted all library cache, preferences and application support calendar folders (but not the syncservices).
When I open ical now it was fresh, without any of my old google account calendars. However, trying to re-add my google account I get this message:
"There was an error in Internet Accounts preference pane."
The calendar now has a heading for my google account, but displays non of the calendars...

This fixed my problem - finally!!

  • How do I completely reset iCal?

How do I completely reset iCal? I want a really clean startup situation as if iCal has never run on this account. I tried:
    rm -rf ~/Library/{Caches,Caches/Metadata,Preferences,Application\ Support}/iCal
but when I start iCal after that I get still a calendar mentioned (which I created a while back but is empty) besides Home and Work. I tried removing as above and logging out and in but that also did not work.

Wow, thank you so much for posting this information. I was having a frustrating problem with my iPhone and iCal. The iPhone settings in iTunes had old calendars that I had deleted and would not sync the current calendars. In fact, it was syncing with the deleted calendars! I have searched high and low for a solution to this problem.
After resetting my iPhone (again), it wasn't fixed. I found this thread, deleted the contents of "~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices", told iTunes to force a reset of the calendar on my iPhone, and presto! It works now! Hopefully if anyone else is having this particular problem, they'll stumble here...

  • Resetting iCal

    Hi,
I use Mobileme to sync between two Macs and iPhones. I'm having problems with iCal on one of the Macs and it is no longer syncing.
I'd like to try resetting iCal on this machine and try to add it to Mobileme as if it was a new computer. Is it possible to restore iCal and clearing off all information?
    Thanks.

I am having the same problem. My calendars on my home computer and iPhone synch with no problem, but then I'll open iCal on my work computer, and it will have old calendar entries (and keep them, even after synching and after telling it to replace all synch data on my work computer with data from MobileMe). What is worse, it can re-introduce them into MobileMe, even though they are older, and even when I tell it to replace on data with the (newer) data on MobileMe.
At this point, I'm ready to delete iCal completely from my work MacBook, and just use web-based calendars, though that defeats one of the primary value propositions of subscribing to MobileMe in the first place. Any advice on how to clean my work computer of all iCal information (so that I can start over), would be much appreciated.

    Usaed,
An indirect answer to your question is "with difficulty." It may be better to describe your problems in greater detail.

  • Reset iCal server to "Out of the Box" state

How would I go about removing all settings and configurations so that the iCal service would be as if it were a fresh installation? I tried configuring the iCal service a while back and apparently did a lot of things wrong, and I would like to start over from scratch without rebuilding the server since my other services are working as they should. This is a Mac mini running Server 10.5.8.
    Thanks in advance!

Assuming you used the default data store location, you can simply stop the service and rename the /Library/CalendarServer/Documents folder then restart the service. This should remove user calendar data and delegation, etc.
This won't adjust/reset your actual calendar "service" settings (in server admin) but surely you can just set those to the appropriate values and work with a new data store? It is unlikely that you damaged the calendar configuration itself beyond repair unless you did some stuff by hand so I assume beginning with a new data store is sufficient?

  • How do I reset iCal or delete EVERYTHING on it?

Hi. I haven't used iCal in over 4 years and would like to use it again. However, it is full of appointments and schedules that I'd set to repeat weekly that no longer apply to my life now. Is there a way that I can simply DELETE all this stuff without having to go through every single appointment and delete it all individually? The only thing I found on the iCal help page was "how to delete a calendar" which makes no sense to me because I don't know how to "select a calendar." ???? I don't see any way to do this. Your help would be much appreciated!

To select a calendar, just click on the calendar name in the Calendar Sources panel on the left side of the iCal window. After you click on the name of the calendar, choose iCal>Edit>Delete from the iCal menu. You may want to consider saving a copy of each calendar before deleting it. To do that click on the calendar name, choose iCal>File>Export...>Export for each one of the calendars you will be deleting. Save them in the location of your choice.
Before you delete the last calendar, create a new calendar by using iCal>File>New Calendar and name it appropriately.

  • How do I reset iCal data in iPad?

Apparently, I screwed up by setting my iPad to sync iCal data in iTunes and also in MobileMe. So, it doubled everything. Seems as though I could get it normalized by asking it to replace all data with data from this computer but that does nothing. Is there someplace I can find where the iCal data for my iPad is stored, erase it and then re-sync? Some other solution? If I could just delete the date now on there, I could let MobileMe resync and, in theory, all would be well. So, what do I do?

Well, I can answer this one for myself. Discovered last night in the iCal application itself, on my iPad, through the "Calendars" button at the upper left of the calendar screen, that I had checks on all 3 or my calendars for "On my iPad" but none checked for "MobileMe". Realized those checkboxes explained everything.
At one point, I had all the boxes checked, so it doubled everything, once for my iPad, once for what it got from MobileMe sync. When I had just the "iPad" boxes checked, it would not sync with MobileMe. So, I unchecked the "iPad" boxes and checked the "MobileMe" boxes and everything, suddenly, was hunky-dory. iCal immediately synced. When I changed an entry on the iPad, it changed in my other computers. No doubling of entries. All was well.
I just had not understood what those boxes meant or how to use them. It does seem as though that could be a little more clear.

  • Resetting iCal to it's original setting

I'm having troubles with iCal saving information after I quit it. This problem only occurs in my account.
What are all the files associated with iCal that can be deleted so I can restore it to it's original setting?
    Thanks.

Try moving the items com.apple.iCal.plist and com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist from the /Library/Preferences/ folder of your home folder to the desktop, as well as the folder /Library/Application Support/iCal/ in your home folder. Your home folder is the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.

  • How do I delete and reset ical

Calendar cleaner just nuked my calendar.  All the info a can find is outdated for OSX 10.10.2

    If you have TM setup and running try the following;
1 - go to your Users/Home/Library folder and select the Calendars folder.
2 - enter Time Machine and go back in time to just before you ran Calendar Cleaner.
3 - make sure the Calendar folder is selected and click on the Restore button.
4 - reboot and launch Calendar.
Just a reminder to never  run any "cleaning" or "optimizing" apps on Macs.  As you've found out they do more harm than good.

  • ICal won't show any calendar in any account - reset?

    Hi all,
After Google's update to their calendar systems, I've been experience some weired behaviour in my calendars (both OSX iCal and iOS Calendar).
So i thought of resetting both.
On the iPhone it all went well: I turned off both Google's and iCloud's calendar services, birthdays from Facebook and set up again successfully; now it works perfectly.
On the Mac, iCal failed, i.e. kept failing at syncing between Google's calendar server and iCal (iCloud seemed to work fine, though). So, after trying a couple of times to turn on and off the sync service of both iCloud and Google from Preferences and from iCal, I decided to remove all the files in ~/Library/Calendars and matching ~/Preferences/*iCal*. This resulted in both iCloud and Google's accounts not syncing anymore.
So I tried again to activate and deactivate both accounts using System Preferences. Fail.
    Using iCal interface. Fail.
Fail: iCal keeps saying: updating calendars but many hours have passed now and nothing happens. The other times I reset iCal it took me like 30 seconds to have it work properly. Moreover, I don't think is a server side issue (like: too many trials, wait some time) because on the iPhone everything works pretty much ok.
How do I solve this issue? I'm thinking about a complete reset but I don't seem able to find the correct files to remove.
    Thanks,
    Riccardo

    Mario,
    You are welcome.
I am just curious, how can you tell the calendar is "incomplete"? And, if that is the reason it won't work, why is it listed on the apple website as being a valid calendar??
I subscribed to the calendar and looked for current entries in the iCal window. It had some erroneous data, and since it did not work for either of us, I concluded that your system was OK and the calendar was invalid.
The iCalShare calendar on the other hand had appropriate and up-to-date information.
If you desire you can provide iCal Feedback to inform Apple that the Red Wings calendar is not correct.
    ;~)

  • ICal disappears in month view

Just recently, when I select month view in the Tiger iCal, the window disappears. I can add new events, but cannot see them unless I'm within the day or week view. Also, when I immediately click day or week, it doesn't fit the frame properly. Does anyone know why this glitch is happening?

I found this advice from a standford prof.... and it worked for me...
"I just deleted the com.apple.ical.plist file from
user/library/preferences and reset everything back to defaults and it works
    fine now."
I deleted all the iCal plists and it kept my data, but reset iCal and I can now see in month view.

  • ICal Syncing problems with Exchange

So I figured iCal was closely related enough to Mail and Address Book that I could post this question here. If there is a more appropriate section please just let me know.
I have a user who is connecting to Exchange 2007 via Mail/iCal/Address Book in Mac OS 10.6. Well last week, his calendar just stopped syncing. When I went to check it out, I removed and then tried to re-setup the connection to Exchange and got an "incorrect password" error. The password is definitely correct as it worked logging in to OWA and when I setup his calendar on another computer. In addition I was able to setup a connection to my own Exchange calendar on his computer, but then had it fail when I tried his again.
So my question is how do I totally reset iCal to "factory" without resorting to creating a new user profile and moving everything over? Obviously something of his credentials or account setup is malformed and saved in iCal. Here is what I have (unsuccessfully) tried so far:
    +a] shutdown iCal+
    +b] rm -rf ~/Library/{Caches,Caches/Metadata,Preferences,Application\ Support}/iCal+
    +c] rm -rf ~/Library/Calendars+
    +d] rm -rf ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices+
+e] start iSync, open Preferences window and click Reset Sync History button+
Any more ideas? Thanks in advance!

Just as an update, I tried creating a new user profile to no avail. Still iCal is unable to connect to Exchange using his credentials. My next step is wipe the whole computer unless anyone has another idea.
