Reseting the registry
I have had the same message over and over when trying to install ITunes again for the 100th time. Says error writing to a registry file and tells me to make sure I have access. Well I read up on registry file writing errors such as this where you have permission but it still says to verify permission. All answers pointed to reseting the permissions in XP for the registry. Problem is it didn't change my problem of access being granted. I am still getting the same error about verifying access. Honestly I think Itunes 8 really did a number on all of us and apple needs to put better info on their support page.
Anybody out there go down this road and ever get their Itunes to work again............let me know!!
new discovery!!! This file that cannot be written to is corrupted. It has nothing to do with it being open for writing or me having access to it(which I do). The file itself can't be read or written to at all. I can't even get rid of the quicktime folder for a fresh install, do to this corrupted file in there. I have no way to delete the file so a new one can be installed. Basically I can't try reinstalling itunes till I find a way to fully uninstall the old one with the corrupted file.
anybody have any suggestions about removing a corrupted file??
I was thinking of just renaming and hiding or moving directory so alteast the new version can install.........help

WEC7 - Reset application registry settings back to those in .reg files
Hi everyone
In WEC7 with Hive registry, is there a way to reset the registry settings back to how they were defined in the .reg file for my application?
I know I can do this from my C# app for each individual entry but would be nice to know if there is a single call to do this.

TerryI am going to answer 'no", but you didn't really define the problem very well.
Your definition of the problem has something to do with "the .reg file for my application" which has no defined meaning that I am aware of. Applications don't have "the .reg file", so tell us what that is exactly.
You posted to the Platform Development forum, which might imply that you are using platform builder and building the OS. If that is the case, then "the .reg file" might be a file that you include in the OS registry when you build the
OS. If that is the case, there is a way to reset the entire registry back to factory - but it will require some work on your part.

I want to Reset oracle database enterprise edition 10.2 installed on my machine. It had a product installed previously on it. I have deleted the tablespaces along with their datafiles used by that product. Product had some users as well. If that is true, the simplest way is to ignore the current database and create a new one from scratch using DBCA.
Note that this does NOT mean a reinstall - Oracle keps the software separate from the database, and yuo can have any number of databases running from one ORACLE_HOME. (ORACLE_HOME is the basis of the software install.)
Since you don't mention operating system, I will assume Windows. (Most people who use only Windows seem to assume that other OSs do not exist, or seem to believe that other OSs are just a copy of Windows, and therefore don't bother telling us any important details about the OS. ;-))
On Windows, to run DBCA for 10gR2, follow the instructions in the documentation at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14196/install003.htm
(On Linux or Unix, set your ORACLE_HOME by running oraenv for the current SID, then enter dbca and you will be able to follow the DBCA instruction in either the above manual or in the Linux/Unix counterpart.)
By the way, DBCA can also be used to wipe out the current DB, including reset the Windows registry so the defunct DB Service does not fire up. Only challenge is that older versions of DBCA did not clean up the disk space used for tablespaces. -

For a while I'm experiencing problems with my system tray. Something regularly resets my customization, i.e. after reboot sometimes all icons that I marked as to show always are hidden again. I found out that the reason is that something erases HCU\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify.
I decided to find out what is responsible. I turned on auidt policy for objects, then I setup audit for HCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify. The next time the icons customization was reset I found out
that HCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify was cleared again and on top of that the audit settings were gone! So I thought maybe something just removed the whole key altogether with the audit settings on the
way.
My next attempt was to set audit on HCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software and just let Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify inherit it. The next time the icons customization was reset I found out that HCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify
was cleared again and on top of that the audit settings were gone again! Something removed the whole HCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software?
The Event Log points out to one of the svchost.exe processes, which is just a container for the whole bunch of different services.
Any idea how to find out what service is responsible?

Interesting issue, what about other configuration or settings? Do they work fine or keep reverting after a reboot? Have you tested this issue in another user account? What is the result?
Regarding to unable to save settigs for current user hive, I doubt whether there's an application you installed recently or an malware\virus changes the permission of registry entry or value of registry keys like
HKCU\Software\Classes which causes this issue.

Hmm... I don't understand. Nothing is reverting after a reboot, as well I'm
not unable to save settings in the current user's hive. The correspondent registry keys can be saved perfectly fine and they are
deleted, not reverted after a reboot. I pointed to the exact code that does it, the code is located in Microsoft DLL with all certificates and digital signatures intact. Permissions obviously don't matter, since svchost.exe is executed with the highest
integrity level and under the System user account, the keys in question inherit permissions, which allow System to do whatever it needs without restrictions
by default, you can't change it to allow more.
So can you explain how it can be some malware?
The issue is intermittent, I don't have a 100% repro, therefore “testing” under another user account is doubtful.

I have an ODS-1 which has target cube1, cube2, cube3....One week back a new target has been added as ODS-2....All complete data from ODS1 has been piped into ODS 2..(Note.. ODS2 has many more inputs from other cubes/ODS too)
NO issues till now....
I found a data problem in ODS-1 which got loaded 15 days back..... I have removed all 15 requests from cube1, cube2 and cube3... Now I am trying to reset the delta in ODS1...
I am getting the following error....Infoprovide ODS2 still contains request... Delete this first....
Since ODS2 has many other data alongwith ODS1... If I try deleting request from ODS2,, I need to clean it totally and redo... I dont want to do this...
Is there any way to disconnect this delta link between ODS1 - ODS2..... So that I will reload the data in ODS1 and populate into all targets...

I dont think you can disconnect the link. just delete the requests originating from ODS1 in ODS2 and you can leave all other requests intact that are from other dataproviders and do a reinit. -
I have a iPhone 5. In usage, it says i have 2.1 gigs used because of photos and camera. I have deleted all my photos via iPhoto and now reset the phone back to factory settings in order to try to solve this problem, to no avail. Both iTunes and the phone say that 2.1 gigs are being used, even though the phone now has nothing on it. What is going on?
Yeah it works fine over wifi the problem is when I try to use it over my 3G. It's really stressing me out now.

When I attempt to log on to I tunes I get the following message:
"The registry settings used by the I Tunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.
This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please re-install I Tunes."
To my knowledge no new software has been installed. I have tried un-installing and re-installing I Tunes but I still
get the same message.

Do you mean you can't see the instructions on what to do if there is no UpperFilters entry?
If so, here's the relevant instructions for that step:
On the right side of the Registry Editor window, right-click the UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.
Right-click the empty white space within the right-hand portion of the Registry Editor window. From the shortcut menu, choose New > Multi-String Value.
Name this new value "UpperFilters" (without the quotes). Then, right-click the newly created UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu. -
My Mcbook cant find the host. I get some conection because my Utorrent has some donwload activity, but when I attempt to open any page i just get a time out and ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED. If i reset the SMC by removing the battery, google loads perfectly and it gives me search results without any problem. But when I click on any link, or attempt to enter a direct URL it gives me the error mentioned before.
I restarted the modem, changed the DNS, deactivate the firewall, conect the macbook via ethernet, change the IP, and nothing seems to work. This issue happened the first time i tried to conect to internet in a different country. Internet works fine in any other laptop or mobile device.
When using the assistant to run a diagnosis on the network, i get the first 4 items (wifi, wifi adjustments, network adjustments and internet provider) with a green light, and the other two (internet and server) with yelow lights (sometmes red light).
When i tried to connect the first time, i had a OS X 6.8 but i upgraded it to Maverick 10.9, since i had already donwnloaded it, and the result was the same.

How do I reset the e-printer's web embedded server network password?
I have an HP Photosmart 7520 e-all in one. I use Windows 7. I could tried to set a password in the EWS network tab. I could not change the user name so it remains "admin". I set the passwork and it seemed ok. But when I tried to log on again, it would not let me in. How do I reset the network password?
I recommend that you run "Restore Network Defaults" from the front panel and then run the wireless setup wizard again. This will wipe out all your network settings.

How do I reset the furthest page read in iBooks from an HTML Widget?
Our training department just got a bunch of iPads and I'm writing some custom HTML widgets for iBooks for them for testing, in-class activities, etc.
On the last page I have a link to clear all the forms and return to the first page. Like this: <a href="ibooks:///#page(1)">Click here</a>
That all works fine but the next time the book is opened it auto-syncs to the FURTHEST page read (the last page with the test on it) instead of the LAST page read (the first page- from the link mentioned above).
Basically we want the link to reset the furthest page read to the first page of the book when they finish the test so that the next person to use the iPad goes to page one automatically.
Does anyone have an idea of how to do something like completely clear the iBook cache?

If you have lost your "admin" account password, it can be recovered using the "pwadmin" account as documented at the following link:

If you have lost your "pwadmin" password as well, you'll need to open a TAC case and get a "DMS 5.1 pwadmin reset" ISO image via TAC. You can then boot the appliance with the provided CD to reset the "pwadmin" password, then login as "pwadmin" and reset the "admin" password from there.
