Resetting a PB 17" 1GHz Battery that "thinks" it's dead?

I have a PB 17" 1GHz that just turned 3 years old. I have 2 batteries that I purchased with the CPU, and have rotated them through it's life. Neither of the batteries have gone more than about 3 months dormant (with a full charge), but recently, one of them has gone dead. Both batteries have under 40 charge cycles.
The bad battery now shows 0% or sometimes the PB shows that there's no battery at all. cocnutBattery sometimes reports that it has good capacity, but 1 or -1 mAh of charge. When installed, my power cord goes amber for about 20 secs, then back to green, and it won't charge.
Here's the odd thing - a few weeks ago, by putting the battery in and out several times, I was able to get it to charge. I gave it a full charge, then was able to use the PB for a good 2+ hours, almost as if it was in perfect shape, just a little short on time.
So, I did a battery condition as recommended by Apple, by letting it fully discharge (to sleep) overnight. The next morning, it had totally shut down, even though Apple says these batteries can stay in sleep for something like a month after fully discharged. At this point, the battery stopped taking a charge.
I've tried everything... reset the PMU... reset the nvram, popping the batt in and out, etc. For a while, cocnutBattery would show the charge cycles and other info, but now it shows 0 and the capacity and charge is -1 and 1. The PB menu shows that it's charging and at 0% (contantly), but the power cord is green - won't actually stay in a charging state.
Now, because the battery did take a charge recently, unless the Apple-recommended battery condition actually killed it, I know this battery is potentially functional. It seems like it's just locked into a logic state of "dead" and needs to be reset somehow.
I've scoured the new and the boards and can't find any tricks to do this. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's just my luck that I'm now 1 month past my 3-year APP plan, but with such a low cycle count on this battery and the fact that it died after running Apple's recondition procedure, if I can't reset it, I'm going to see if they can help.
Thanks,
-Mark

First, try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and homebutton for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting.
If this does not work, try to set it up as new device:

If still no luck, get your battery checked by Apple, your battery has one year warranty:
iPhone Owners
Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your coverage to two years from the date of your iPhone purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPhone. During the plan’s coverage period, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $79, plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner

Galaxy S6 teardown reveals battery that's difficult to replace

I have had a ZT for 2 weeks now with no major issues. I have had to reset it a few times, but that was no big deal. The battery life is great on it. I have 207 CDs/2486 songs on it (at 28 kbps/WMA) and have 8 GB still left on it. The sound is great. The player is sturdy. I am 40-something, and just wanted one place to store by favorite CDs (I have about 700).
Hard dri've players are not meant to be bumped around, even iPods. I think the battery is supposed to have about 300 charges on it. With a 24-hour battery life, and me with an 8-5 job, I will probably only use it 2-3 hours a weekday, so one charge is lasting a week. I read a thread here that said that CL will replace the battery for $99, but no one has done that yet (since the players are so new).
I have not tried to use it as a mass storage device... I have a couple of cheap pen dri'ves for that. I understand it can be done as long as the Creative software is on all computers that you connect your ZT to. This is not a big deal to me, but I can appreciate other people's desire for this. I wanted a player that could store 300+ CDs on it, and this fits the bill well.

  • Powerbook G4 17" 1ghz battery problem?

It thens resets my date to 1969. I have calibrated, reset PMU/NVRAM. The battery has only 135 cycles. I have ordered another battery hopefully that will fix. any other suggestions?

You have a second non-user accessible battery that may need replacing after 4 years. Have an authorized service technician look at it and see if that is needed.

Hi, I'm a macbook pro user but recently my macbook just spoiled, i though was my power adapter problem because when i charge my mac battery that is depleted, it shows a very dim light and my mac just won't start up, even i bought a brand new 80 euro power adapter it still give out the same result.

Try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If that doesn't help, try Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

    Battery not charging:
    1. Reset iPad; hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo
    2. Try another wall socket
    3. Try another cable (make sure it's an original Apple cable)
    4. Try another charger (make sure it's an original Apple charger)
    5. Clean Lightning port with compress air or new paint brush

  • Trying to find replacement battery thats performs like the original

I have a aluminum unibody 15" MacBook Pro, it's about year and a half old. The battery isn't performing like it used too, and I'm looking to replace it. The only problem is that every review I read says the the replacement battery is horrible compared to the original, even from the apple website and OEM. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement battery that will perform the the original battery came with it?

I think that your best option is to get one from Apple even though it will be the most expensive.  I have seen no statements in regards to the quality of them, but I have no reason to believe any one might have better ones.
I have seen that through Amazon one can order OEM batteries for Apple MBPs and at more favorable prices. They look 'real' and I suspect that they are gray market items.  Nevertheless Caveat Emptor.
iFixit.com also sells MBP batteries, but I don't know if they have any in stock.
I certainly would avoid anything offered on e-bay in the bargain category.
If you do choose to go third party, note that you will need a #0 Triwing driver for the battery swap.
    Ciao.

I did drop it from about 4 and a half foot during the reset so I don't know if that has broken it.

See if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allo iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore it.
    Next try DFU mode.

Restore from iCloud backup if shed has one.
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

I have an iPad 1st generation that no longer has working volume buttons but every once in a while the sound turns on.  So I know the speakers still work.  I have tried resetting all settings and made sure that my side switch was auto lock not auto mute. I have tried the mystical swiping upward on the screen with 4 fingers to get some special sound menu (which I never succeeded in getting).  My headphone jack doesn't work all the time either so some times my kids can hear their games and sometimes they can't.  I am super frustrated at this point.  So any suggestions would be great.  Am I missing something basic or do we just have a soundless iPad now?

  • Another burst A1189 battery that doesn't fit within the recall

Battery model A1189, Serial No. 6N64905XW4HB. Was doing the abrupt shut offs, started about a month ago. Battery Update and all other patches were current. Now its bulged out and is now unsafe if usable at all. But I guess that's my problem, not Apple's. Sorry your power source is obviously defective, but we can't help you. Great service.
Whats scary is the new ones that are now inside the case, where will those have room to bulge out of? And will Apple say you're SOL if you don't fit what they determined to be the range of serial numbers that were bad?

Glad you got your issue sorted.

Apple doesn't make their own batteries. They use batteries made by Sony, SMP, etc. If your colleagues want to discuss the batteries in Lenovo laptops, which you call 'pretty decent', you might refer them to this article discussing the recall of over half a million batteries in Lenovo laptops, and the related incident at the LA International Airport in which a Lenovo T43 caught fire due to a faulty battery.
    Just some food for thought...
As a side note, a brand new Lenovo T400 that my work's IT department issued to me last week died this morning - it fails to boot beyond the initial BIOS screen. That Lenovo was my fifth work-provided PC laptop in the past 3 years. My 3-year old MBP is working just perfectly...and I'm still productive at work at this very moment because I'm running an image of a corporate Windows installation via Parallels on my MBP.

  • Where can I get an external battery that can power my Mac Book pro Retnia?

Where can I get an external battery that can power my Mac Book pro Retnia? When I get off a long fight, I have no time to recharge.

Try searching for "external battery macbook pro retina" (without quotes). You should find at least three potential answers in the first two pages.
I can't give you a specific recommendation, because I haven't (yet) tried any of them.

Sorry, don't know what you are asking. You have an old iPad Mini 3 and a new iPad Mini 3?  How did you set up the new iPad? Did you restore it from a backup of the old iPad? What photos are you not seeing?
