Resetting a slide upon reentry

is there a way to reset a slide on reentry so you're not in the middle of a activity. i know in storyline you can  either pick and option to reset the slide (if someone uses the back or forward buttons to get to that slide again) or start from where the slide paused.
if you finish a slide that had a game or activity, if you hit the back button to go back to that slide it doesn't reset the game it just shows you where you last left off.
any suggestions

I'm always resetting with an advanced/shared action triggered On Enter for a slide, where I expect to be returning. When you return to the slide, it will return to the first frame (not where you left), but objects that have been shown/hidden, variables that have been changed will remain the way they were when you left the slide.  Have multiple examples on my blog, those situations have to be taken into account when you analyze the scripting.
As for the learning interactions: they are automatically reset when you go back to a slide. I don't know what you mean by 'game'? If it is a custom game, you have to take care of resetting yourself.

  • How do I reset / refresh slide elements on enter in Captivate 6?

I have a Captivate 6 movie that has a number of user-triggered advanced actions in the form of case studies / character scenarios. These interactions enable learners to watch displayed information, answer questions and recieve feedback.
I need these screens to automatically reset themselves if the learner navigates back to them. I know I can create a complex advance action to undo everything on screen entry but I'm guessing there is a better way. Is there a simple Advanced Action or javascript that I can assign to the On Enter function of the slide?

    Thanks Rod and Lilibiri.
There are two different types of slides that I want to reset:
Avatar - User clicks on an image (play icon) to trigger an advanced action that simply hides the icon and initial character image, plays audio as well as shows a couple more images of the character on time delay so it looks as if it is talking (in a stilted way)
Case Study - User clicks on an image (play icon) to trigger an advanced action that simply hides the icon and two initial character images, plays audio, shows more time delayed images and conversation bubbles (so it looks like the characters are talking), and displays a question with answer options. The user then clicks on their response which triggers another advanced action that shows a few images (ticks / crosses / character images change and conversation bubbles) as well as plays more audio.
It's really just straight forward show and hide functions that I am trying to reset. I have been able to create an advanced action for each type of slide that is applied on slide enter that essentially 'undoes' (that is reverse hides and shows) everything from the user triggered interactions.
Its a pretty cumbersome solution, but I don't have a lot of experience / knowledge of using variables, conditional actions or javascript. I was just hoping that there might have been a way of entering a standard javascript code that was actionable on slide enter to clean it all up for me, or a similar approach with variables.

  • Volume keeps resetting to halfway upon restart

Hi, every time I restart my notebook the volume resets so that it's halfway on the volume slider. Shouldn't this setting be saved? How do I change it so it does save?

I'll take a look, thanks. I have a brand new MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.6.
Update: Just before posting this message, I checked my sound settings after booting up my notebook and it was actually saved to the last state. Then after I wrote the above message, I plugged in my earbuds thinking everything was gonna be ok and an alert sounded which about scared the bejesus out of me. I rechecked the sound settings and it was back in the middle. Grr!
I've got the Sound Preferences window open right now and when I remove the earbuds, the output volume goes back down to what it was saved as. When I plug it back in, the volume jumps to the middle. I turned the volume down with it plugged in and tried the above test again. Now it toggles between both saved settings, which is what I'd expect.

  • Reset question slides

    Hello
I have some question slides in my course that are not scored.  After the questions have been answered or skipped and the learner clicks on the rewind button to re start the course the question slides are greyed out.
How do I make the questions active again and keep being active everytime some one clicks on rewind to re start the course.
    Help!

I think you will need to relaunch the quiz for each of the users.

  • Resetting midi settings upon restart?

When I come back to the system the next day and re-open a project, I notice I have to reset all my volume fader and reverb settings in the Logic mixer ... relating to my outboard multi timbral synth keyboard.
I seem to remember there was a way I could resend\reset all data with a single click...
I just can't what exactly that click was.
    Ben

    Ben,
Unfortunately what Juhani suggested doesn't seem to work as it's supposed to. There is an option under "Logic / Preferences / MIDI / Reset Message - Send Used Instrument Settings on Reset" that doesn't seem to reset anything but the currently selected track. There's another setting in "Project Settings / MIDI / Chase - Send full MIDI reset before chasing" which is also not a complete solution.
I'm assuming you want to set them to the Fader Values and what not that you have modified within your sequence.
Here's what you do... there are 2 necessary steps:
    1) In "Project Settings / MIDI / General - Miscellaneous" If you want Logic to be sure it recalls MIDI Track Volume, Pan and/or Program Change settings, check the "Used Instrument MIDI settings". You can also check the "All fader values" check box, but this setting as detailed in the Manual is specifically for Environment Fader values... and typically most people don't have MIDI Environment Faders.
    2) Click on one of your MIDI tracks in the Arrange... under the Track Parameters sections on the left Channel Strip view (inspector needs to be on) you should see a Program, Volume and Pan parameter with a check box next to each. Check the boxes of the settings you want recalled on each session open. You'll have to check these for each individual MIDI track. This is a pain for any older sequences, but do this is any of your Templates so the session will be ready to go up front.
Keep in mind checking these boxes does NOT "lock" these parameters down, like Automation. If you check the Volume box and move the MIDI volume fader you'll see that the Volume parameter changes in response to the Fader movement. Also, MIDI automation will take precedence as well. Overall this is a good thing, and checking these boxes only tells Logic to send the current Volume, Pan and Program Change, but does not say add a Volume entry in the MIDI info of the track.
It's probably only necessary to send these when the Project opens, which is why it's set up that way. But I've noticed that if you want to send a single set of Track Parameters after the session has loaded, for whatever reason, up & down arrow over the track in question and it should send out the parameters. As does the "Options / Send to MIDI / Used instrument MIDI Settings".
    Hope this helps...

  • Brand new N95 8GB resets itself forever upon loadi...

I have a N95 8GB bought a few hours ago. After setting up and configuring it, it has worked OK for a couple of hours. After that, each time I switch it on, it resets itself, approximately a couple of seconds after having loaded the "desktop" and keeps doing this on its own in an infinite loop.
To turn it off the only way is to take off the battery.
    Batteries have been charged.
What could I do to recover this brand new baby before bringing it back to the store where I bought it?
Is it advisable to do a hardware reset? How is it to be done ona N95?
Many thanks in advance for your support

If you are having that kind of problem so soon then the most sensible option would be to return it and try another.
If you want to reset try the below but if you have the spiderman 3 edition of the phone you will no longer be able to watch the movie.
    Hard reset:
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
    3. While holding these buttons, press the power button and switch on the phone.
    4. Release when the phone shows the nokia logo or shows other signs of life like the language selction screen.

  • Reset slide on exit

I searched throughout the forum but didn't see an answer to this specific question. Working in CP6
I have some simple content slides on which I have two sets of stacked text and image objects. The first set is visible on entry. The user clicks a continue button within the slide to show the second set. Then a back button appears allowing the user to return to the first set.
What I am trying to figure out is how to reset the slide to its opening position when the user clicks Next and exits the slide. I am not running this with a Captivate playhead since the swf is inserted into an LMS.
So, is there a variable I can create for the slide "On Exit" to trigger a reset? I looked throught he cmd variables and don't see one that does that. And I tried just using the same script I have associated with the Back button but that didn't work.
    Thanks.

You need to build an Advanced Action that HIDES all the objects that are not supposed to be visible on the slide when it gets launched and SHOWs all the objects that should be visible.  Then that AA must be executed On Slide Enter of the slide in question.  That way, no matter where your user enters the slide from it will be set up as it should be.

  • Reset Slide with Audio on Enter CP7 HTML5

I have a slide with some audio and animation (captions fading in and out) on the timeline that is triggered by a play/pause button with some Advanced Actions attached to it to toggle the buttons and resume and pause the timeline.
However, if I navigate through this slide to another slide my buttons get confused when I re-enter the slide with audio and require me to click/toggle them a couple of times to get them to work.
The solution I think I need is to be able to reset the slide with audio every time I enter it. Is this possible and can anyone point me in the right direction please?
    Many thanks.

Buttons are text buttons sitting side-by-side, not stacked. The buttons appear only for the duration of the slide.
The result I wanted was a total reset of the slide, essentially for the play button to be visible each time and for the audio/animation to be restored to their original states. This has now been achieved thanks to your guidance.
I've switched a couple of things (see screen grabs) to enable the play button to be visible on entering the slide as I don't want the audio/animation to autoplay, I'd prefer this to be user-initiated. I know you'll know what I've done by looking at the screen grabs but I've included some notes in case this might help anyone else.
    1. Set slide to display play button, hide pause button and continue to the first pause that is on my timeline (in this case the pause appears after 1.5 seconds) on enter:
    2. When play button is clicked it is hidden and the pause button is displayed. Continue plays the slide.
    3. When the pause button is clicked it disappears and the play button is displayed. The slide is paused.
Thanks again for your help, it is much appreciated.

  • Pause Slide Narration upon Enter

All of my slides have narration audio files embeded so that they can take advantage of the closed captioning. I want the audio narration to pause when a user enters a slide and wait until they click a button to start the audio. Currently, when entering a slide the audio plays automatically from the start of the slise. How do you pause a slide upon entering?
    Thanks,
    Rusty

I found my own solution. The narration needs to start anytime other than at 0.0sec and after a click box that pauses the slide until clicked. The duration of the click box needs to be set so it stops before the the start of the audio duration.

  • Going back in tutorial renders unanswered question slides void

Hi, I have looked through the last few months of questions and don't see exactly my issue.
I have a Captivate 4 project that is linear and has questions (no scores reported to LMS) throughout to reinforce learning.
When a learner gets to a quiz item in the series and wants to jump back to an earlier content slide (using TOC or back arrow on Nav bar--I don't have back arrow on Question slide itself.) they can't return to the question and take it. The question appears to be locked up and they get the error message below. This is a question they never tried.
I don't put a back button on the question because I don't like to encourage that, but I do have on the Quiz settings to "Allow backward movement". If that will fix the problem, then I'll add that button. Just wondering if there is another setting I can change.
    The question settings are:

Yes, I had to do something, so I changed the number of attempts to unlimited. That did fix the problem. Guess if we aren't scoring the items, we need them guess as many times as they like. This automatically resets the question for reentry from anyplace.
    Thanks.

  • Why do I see things set differently in Advanced Actions (F9) than in each slide's Edit  Question settings?

After spending 10+ hours of trying to figure out why my first two quiz slides did work, and my next eight didn't, I found the answer as an offhand, btw, comment. The expected action was On failure, Jump to Slide x, which would jump back to the beginning of that content "section." (Quiz slides (two per section) are interspersed with sections of content slides). I finally ran across the advice to "save yourself time" by using F9 to see Advanced Interactions (which is, what, a dialog? a view?).  Turns out this was not just a time-saver but the ONLY way (that I've found yet) to see and fix my problem.  In Advanced Interactions, I could immediately see that the first two slides were set as I thought, (Jump to Slide upon failure), but the rest were set to Continue upon failure.  This, EVEN THOUGH on every question slide, in Edit view/mode on the Edit Question > Options tab, it was set for Jump to Slide upon failure.  Why did it appear that way in Edit Question > Options, but not in Advanced Interactions?  I set them all correctly in the Advanced Interactions and now the jumping is working correctly (Now I have problems with questions not being reset, but I think I have seen the answers for that in my 10+ hours of reading forums and blogs.)

  • Fiddling with volume slider and sound quality

In an attempt to bypass the infamous volume cap that plagues iPods sold in the EU, in the past I fiddled with the volume slider of many of my MP3 tracks, either directly or via third party applications (such as euPod). Afterwards I have changed my mind and reset the slider.
Later on, I have read a few sources claiming that the above procedure would cause a permanent modification of the MP3 file and/or affect sound quality.
I am somewhat puzzled by such claims... Am I really better off re-ripping all those tracks? Can anyone point me towards an undisputed “truth” on this matter?

The third one is a hardware issue: The earbuds jack
is very loose. Apparently, the iPod automatically
pauses playback when the headphones are disconnected.
Hence, I only have to wiggle the connector a bit and
the nano stops playing. This really would be annoying
if I were to go jogging with my iPod ...
hmmm.. that happens to my ipod too and i only got it for christmas. so i was a bit gentle with it.so hence it comes out very easily.
but whilst reading all the replys i decided to be harsher to my ipod and just push my earbuds in all the way..it worked!! that might be the same for u or i might have just been a bit too forgetfull and thought that my ipod was delicate coz its like.. so preety:)
lol im in love with my ipod ..
dont know if this helps..hope it does..

  • What exactly iPhone 2 Button Reset DO ?

    Well,
Question is obvious in the topic. I really wonder what exactly restarting the phone using 2 buttons (home + power) ? What's the difference between using power button + slide to reset ?

Slide to turn off is like putting a laptop into hibernation.
What is in memory gets saved out so when you turn it back on it reloads where it was.
IF there was a memory leak in some program causing issues, then that would be loaded right back if you just powered off then on.
    This is not correct.
It's not hibernation; neither process state nor memory state is saved. When you "slide to turn off" it flushes the cashes, closes open files and performs other shutdown tasks then completely powers off. RAM is cleared, and when you restart no programs are restored/reloaded. You can verify this by running any process monitoring app after you power back on - everything is restarted.
It's like hitting "shutdown" on your computer.
The difference is that the reset (hold sleep and home for 10 secs) does not run shutdown routines, close buffers, flush the caches, etc. or call shutdown. It just powers off the device spontaneously. It's like pulling the power plug on your computer while it's running. It's not a good idea to do this regularly.
It's best to "slide to power off" to power off/restart your phone, or when you encounter sluggish behavior, etc. Only hold both buttons to reset it if it's hung up badly enough that you cannot "slide to power off". This can happen if the OS in memory is corrupted badly enough.
