Resetting authentication password

My authentication password does not work for some reason. So I searched on here and found directions to put in the installation disk, hold down "c" and restart the computer. Then select "reset password" from the installer menu. Well the "reset password" was grayed out. That didn't work. Then I read somewhere to disable the open firmware before doing all of the above. I have no idea how to disable the open firmware, where it even is, or what it even is.
Please help!

*Well the "reset password" was grayed out.*
Features of Open Firmware Password Protection
Blocks the ability to use the "C" key to start up from an optical disc.
Since I understand that you were able to boot from the install cd/dvd, it would seem that you do not have a firmware password. There must be some other problem.
Here are some other ways of changing the password.
Changing password from single user mode:
You can also change the administrator's password from single user mode. These steps are more complicated.
You need to get into single use mode for steps one and two.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
http://www.securemac.com/macosxsingleuser.php
Basically, you hold down the command-s key when powering on. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar. On a PC keyboard, it will be the windows key, I think.
1) Get the Mac to set up a new administrative account. You can then change the password on your old account.

OK, restart your computer, hold down Command-s and type in the following:
/sbin/fsck -y [Enter]
/sbin/mount -uaw [Enter]
rm /var/db/.applesetupdone [Enter]
reboot [Enter]
Once you've done that the computer reboots and ask you to set up an admin password. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!

You will need to scoll down to see this post. Search for applesetupdone
Once you have a new administrative account, you can change the password of your old administrative account
blue apple > System Preferences > Accounts
2) You can change the password on an account. ( Do you know Unix. You are in a Unix single user console. )
To find out the users on the system type:
ls /Users
Pick one of the users and type passwd a-user-name and enter the new user password. You need six characters. One of these account will be the administrator.
The root account isn't enabled by default. I am not sure if changing the password on root will enable it.
How to crack Mac OS X password
I recommend changing your password, but with a lot of computer work you can find out your current password.

    Hi,
I understand that any email that is leaving Apple is not getting to your email account.
I linked to the page where you would normally change this so that you could check what your Primary Apple ID and email are.
My Apple ID is based on an email with a Dial-up service I once had.
I had changed the email here at Apple Support Communities to send it to a Gmail account.
Then I linked my Apple ID with an iCloud ID and it reverted to the Dial-up account.
I can "fetch" mail  from this account as I don't have to be logged in via their dial-up server.
However if I wanted to Send from that account I would have to Log in via a Dial-up modem which this iMac does not have as standard.
There is another page where you can change the Email address that is linked to your account.
You can change just the Email and it will ignore your Apple ID/Primary email from the other page and start sending emails to the one your enter.
    OPTION
The other option is the choose the Online option to change the password.
When you login at the first "portal" I linked you to you get an option to "recover" or reset the password in the web Browser there and then with out sending an email.
You are required to answer the Security Question(s) you set up and list your date of birth.

  • I'm trying to reset my password but I'm not receiving the authentication email. Help?!?

As it says in the title. I only have one email address (which is also my Apple ID of course) so I'm certain that these emails aren't going to another address, just not arriving at all. Have tried multiple times.

    Hey mcrickster,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are attempting to reset the password for your Apple ID. It may be possible that you have a rescue email address setup, and the password reset email is being sent to that address:
When you provide a rescue email address, all future security emails, such as password resets from iForgot, will be sent to the address provided. The rescue email address you provide cannot be the same as your primary email address for your Apple ID.

  • This is the 4th time I have had to reset my password in 2 months, this is being generated by apple not me. I keep getting emails as well telling me to reset my password. Is this due to a hacking attempt or a virus or perhaps IOS ? What is going on??

I have a problem with my Apple ID password. I have been asked several times over the last few months for my Apple ID password and then when I go to enter it tells me that it is incorrect and I have to through the whole thing again.

If you are receiving e-mail messages telling you to reset your password, you should never click links in those e-mail messages and enter your password there! That is a common phishing attempt, and entering your Apple ID and password on the page you are directed to would give it to the hackers behind it.
It could also be an error of some kind (someone is trying to reset what they think is their Apple ID) or a malicious attempt to reset your password (stupid, since you'd get the reset e-mail, but some folks aren't that bright about this sort of stuff). In either case, turning on two-factor authentication will prevent anyone from even attempting to reset your password without additional information. See:
    Apple introduces two-factor authentication
If you keep getting the reset e-mails after turning that on, it's phishing and you should just delete the messages.

  • HT5538 Every time I try to use apple ID for face time I got an error message "the username or password was incorrect" although they are right and I use them in App Store and I cloud even after resetting my password

Every time I try to use apple ID for face time I got an error message "the username or password was incorrect" although they are right and I use them in App Store and I cloud even after resetting my password, the problem happens also with iMessage . Please help

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • Doesn't send me an e-mail to reset my password

I had made an Apple ID for my iPad, but when I tried to log into my Apple ID account in settings under iTunes&App Stores, it said that "Your Apple ID or password is incorrect". I repeatedly tried to log in, but it continued to inform me that it was incorrect. So then I clicked "Forgot Apple ID and Password?" in order to reset my password. However, when I chose "Email authentication" I waited and waited but an e-mail never came. I also tried this multiple times. So then after I decided to try and click "Answer security questions", but I never got to my questions because it told me that the birthdate I entered "did not match their records". Can someone help me with this problem?

Whew, so sorry to hear Jimmy.

  • I have finally "freaked out" like others. Itunes keeps asking me to reset the password that is accepted by all. I went to Safari Privacy and third parties and advertisers is already clicked.  I need advice before the "ambulance" arrives. (joke)

I have the patience of Job.  Patience doesn't help when I can't sign in to iTunes without having my authentic password rejected and
told I need to reset it.  Since I have followed the advice from a community member to go to Privacy in Safari Browser and choose an
option other than Always. I have already clicked: Third Parties and Advertisers.  This is because I am "allergic" to advertisers.
Please help me to resolve this issue.  I need to log into itunes in order to make more efforts to delete music from my ipod.?
Many music selections are from a relative that had borrowed the ipod for the weekend. Many are in Japanese.  I am thrilled

  • Reset admin password - SJSWS 7u8

    Hi,
I've read through the documentation and a few of the other posts about resetting the admin password in SJSWS. Plainly, it doesn't work
    [root@server bin]# ./wadm reset-admin-password --user admin --host localhost --port 8989
    Please enter admin-password>
    Please enter admin-password again>
CLI103 Command 'reset-admin-password' failed. :: netscape.ldap.LDAPRebindI've not been able to find any matches to the 'netscape.ldap.LDAPRebind' error, and don't know why it's talking about ldap in the first place (as SJSWS isn't attached to any LDAP).
The local machine (RHEL5.5, Linux x86_64, amd64 SJSWS install) does use LDAP for authentication, but it shouldn't be trying to touch that.
I can't find any further log entries for the failed password change either.
This is the administration console, with one other node hanging off of it.
    [root@server bin]# . ../lib/wsenv ; $WS_JAVA/bin/java -version
    java version "1.6.0_19"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_19-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.2-b04, mixed mode)Any ideas would be welcome ;)

    Unfortunately you've run into a known problem - 6914493.
Edit $(INSTALL_ROOT)/bin/wadm and add ${classpath_prefix}/ldapjdk.jar to the classpath variable and try re-running the command.

  • Authenticating password

I was recently given a previously used G4 from a family member that cant remember the authentication password and is having a hard time finding the original install disk. I have the new 10.5 cd and still need a password to download it. Until then I can't use my printer etc...Can you help?

I'm thinking that if the 10.5 Installer DVD doesn't work for you to reset the administrator password, you'll probably have to get ahold of a 10.3 installer DVD in order to reset it. Short of that, you may have to take it into an Apple Store or someplace that works on Macs and have them do it for you.
Did you try this procedure, taken from (10.4.x's) Finder Help using "reset admin password" as search terms, using the 10.5 installer DVD?
If you don't remember the password and automatic login is turned off, you can reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X User Install disc. To reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X disc:
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc and restart the computer.
    2. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the "C" key until you see the spinning gear.
    3. When the Installer appears, choose Utilities > Reset Password.
    4. Follow the onscreen instructions to change the password.
    5. Quit the Installer and restart your computer while holding down the mouse button to eject the disc.
BTW, is the G4 clock speed greater than 800 MHz? I'm just asking because I thought I heard that Leopard won't run on 800-MHz and slower machines.
PS - this probably wasn't the most appropriate forum for you to post in; so if what I say here doesn't work out for you and nobody else here posts a workable solution for you, try posting your question in this other forum instead.

  • Authentication Password Changed Spontaneously!

My has been changing spontaneously. When I am trying to install a program or perform any task that requires a password comes a message "Sorry, you entered an invalid username or password. Please try again." When it suggests my password hint, the hint is exactly what I had and match with my password but nothing happen and keeps me unable to do my tasks or installation. I followed the instructions to restart with the OS X installation CD pressing the "C" key and reset my password but nothing changes. Then I gave up and reinstall the OS X. For a period of time the things seems to be working OK after the OS X installation, but after the software updates the problem starts again. What's going on? How to solve it? Can be a problem with some of the updates?
Thank's for any help in advance!

I found myself the answer. I don't know why but in the authentication window the correspondent letters in the keyboard are mixed up. Tha's why I typed the password and always come with the message of wrong password. I discovered that when accidentally tried to type the password in the line above where we could see the letters instead of dots. So for the letter "t" I had to type "k", for letter "s" I had to tipe":" and so on. The same problem happened in my 3 computers and after I solved the quiz ant typed my original password with the decifrated letters everything started to work fine, even if I had to install a new program. This odd situation start to happen when I start to use the iSync but I am not sure it really can be related with this bug. If somebody have the same problem try this solution!

  • Issue in reset portal password.

    Hi Experts,
I have implemented "Forgot Password" functionality in our portal (EP7). It was working fine. But now we are getting an issue.
If we locked the user from r/3 end using TCode 'SU01' or if the user get locked for too many wrong password attempt and then  he/she try to reset the password then this functionality not working. If we try to reset the password we are getting the mail with new password but with the new password portal not allowing us to enter. It's giving " Authentication failed" error.
But If we reset the password without locking back-end user then itu2019s working. we are getting the mail with new password and  portal  allowing us to enter.
Means if by any chance the backend user is locked then it's not working.
    what could be the reason?
    Thanks
    Sujan Indu

If an administrator locks a user explicitly from SU01 (User ID Locked), then the user should not be able to unlock himself using the portal password self service application. That is the whole purpose of an administrative lock.
However, the application should work if the password is locked due to a number of unsuccessful logon attempts.
    See SAP Note 1397312 -
"users are allowed to reset their passwords only if it is locked because of too many failed logon attempts. If the user is locked by administrator he is not allowed to reset his password."
