Resetting bios for Satellite A205 laptop

Can anyone please tell me how I can reset the bios in my Satellite A205 laptop, so that the CD/DVD drive works again?  At present it doesn't even register on the computer anywhere.  I have tried altering the upper and lower filters in the registry, but it makes no difference.  If restting the bios isn't what I need to do, what do I need to do to get the CD/DVD drive working again, or to fix its driver, so that the drive works again.  Any help very much appreciated, but please try and give me comprehensive instructions.  Thank-you.

hmm, do you mean resetting the BIOS defaults?
thats F9 after you get to BIOS

  • Need original BIOS for Satellite C850-B237

I was updating Toshiba Satellite C850-B237 insydeh20 bios, but after restarting laptop its bricked.
Now I need Original bios (not updates) to boot from USB might work. To whom should I contact for oraiginal bios?

I can imagine that Toshiba service provider in your country can help you with this. They must have access to Toshiba database and also access to all previous BIOS versions.

  • DOS attack affected BIOS ACPI - need DOS BIOS for Satellite P60

    Help!!!!
I am looking for the DOS version of the latest BIOS for the Satellite P60(C), but it seems it is not available for any users on any Toshiba site.
I installed the latest (1.9 for windows) but have the feeling that it still was not good enough to stave off attacks, since suddenly it does not want to boot from the hard disk, and even running software from the CD ROM meets up with a "sticky" end. (either BSOD with ACPI invalid information) or it will not even start on the hard drive, but will start on the floppy drive.
So, I am looking for the latest version of the DOS-based BIOS, but they have locked it out on the USA site and do not show it on the Canadian site.
I have repaired a lot of computers, installed BIOS updates.
I do not know what the difference is between the BIOS of the P60E, P60C, P60A, but assume since it is based on the same model parameters it could not be that different.
So, what I am looking for is the BIOS for mine, but will settle with any one of the P60's

    Hi
I think you will be not successful finding a traditional BIOS update.
The Toshiba pages provide only the BIOS updates which can be updated from the Windows OS.
    > I do not know what the difference is between the BIOS of the P60E, P60C, P60A, but assume since it is based on the same model parameters it could not be that different.
I think the differences are not visible for a common notebook user but it looks like the different A60 notebooks were delivered with different devices like CPUs or GPUs and therefore the BIOS update is not the same.
    bye

  • Hardware reset bios for hp elitebook 820 G1

i need your support to reset bios password for HP elitebook 820 G1. thanks,

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility  Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

  • How reset BIOS on Satellite L755-16P?

    Hello!
I'll set password on BIOS and forgot it. Call me plz ID jumper for reset BIOS.

    Hi
BIOS security is very important security feature that allows notebook owner to protect his notebook and saved data. Please don't be mad on me but you cannot expect that BIOS password removal technique will be described on public forum that belongs to notebook manufacturer.
Usually if the notebook user is faced with such problem must contact nearest authorized service provider and ask for help.
At first it must be proved if the notebook belongs to you and then BIOS password can be removed.

  • How to install the new BIOS for Satellite Pro M50 running Ubuntu

I am running Ubuntu on my Pro M50. Could someone advise me what the latest BIOS is and how to install it?
The BIOS upgrade site here seems to havean exe file but I couldn't see the BIOS file within?
    Thanks

Why do you want to update the BIOS?!
Do you have any big troubles with your notebook?!
The Toshiba European driver page provides BIOS for XP and BIOS for Vista.
Both BIOS versions must be executed while the operating system is running!
If you use the Linux on your notebook, you will be not able to update the BIOS!!!
    Do you understand?
Once again; The BIOS update should be done ONLY if its absolutely necessary. In other case dont update it!

Sorry, but the terms of service for this forum forbids anyone from helping anyone with that issue for security reason.
The system will have to go to a certified service center to have that work done.

  • ACPI Compliant BIOS for Satellite Pro A30

Hello, I have a Satellite Pro A30 which has 1GB RAM and P4 2.8GHZ CPU. I was wondering when toshiba would be supplying ACPI compliant BIOS upgrades for these machines? Because I would like to upgrade to Windows Vista, upon running the Vista Upgrade Advisor, my machine will run Windows Vista Business, but I just want to use Windows Vista Basic.
So I began the upgrade from within Windows XP and once the machine re-booted to begin the Vista installation I was confronted with the Blue Screen, stating that my BIOS wasn't fully ACPI compatible.
This seems like such a shame as the machine is upto running Vista, but Toshiba have not provided ACPI bios upgrades. My bios revision is 1.80.
    Any idea?

    Hi Keith,
I have an A30 also, after Googling around I've found that the A30 is ACPI 1.0 compliant and Vista requires ACPI 2.0, there is little difference and there are workarounds published on the net but they seem too complicated for me. The websites I've read think it is unlikely Tosh will release an updated BIOS as they would rather users upgraded their computers.
I've been to the BIOS (Phoenix) makers website and followed a link to BIOS agent. They informed me they haven't produced an upgraded BIOS yet but I should try again in 6 months.
I hope this helps a little, if I find anything constructive out I'll post it.

  • BIOS for Satellite L505D-S5983 FAIL

    Howdy folk,
It's been some weeks since I set it aside, I'm giving this one last shot before I junk it. That would be a shame, because other than the BIOS, it appears to be a perfectly fine piece of equipment. I really want this box to run for me.
I got a hand-me-down Satellite L505D-S5983 with a caveat that the BIOS had issues. And boy does it. In attempting to get the BIOS difficulties addressed, I was trying lots of things recommended here. I changed settings hoping to access a USB keyboard, except that I apparently turned off the internal keyboard. Whatever I changed, In doing that the BIOS is now rendered absolutely out of reach.
F2 won’t bring up BIOS, F12 won’t lead to bootable drives menu. Wherever I got this tip, Control-F2 gets the BIOS to display, in fact holding most keys such as just Q results in BIOS display. But then that's the closest I can get. As soon as I let go of Control, I get dialogue "Exit Discarding Changes Yes No", pre-parked on "Yes". No keys or key combo will switch or register as Yes or No, and while held, no other keys navigate or alter the menus.
I've downloaded and burned a BIOS flash disk from the BIOS update file here. But we never get that far.
Any assistance in getting around this bricked mobo will be much appreciated.

I'm replying to my own post because I forgot to check "Email me when someone replies" on the thread starter.

  • How to reset BIOS on Satellite A110?

    Hi there,
I need a little help, somehow my notebook came up with the idea of putting a bios password in by himself. So I have no idea what it is.
I would really like to logging at my notebook again so has anyone an good idea?
I googled on the internet and I already tried:
    - Playing with the boot button to try and by-pass the biospass
    - Holding the left Shift button to try and by-pass the biospass
    - Trying the password Toshiba / toshiba
So the warranty is already elapsed so I opened the Notebook and disamblled it. It ain't possible to get the Bios battery out of his place without killing it, and I can't find any jumper or bios chip.
So has anyone please an idea how to fix this problem?
my laptop also has no floppy drive.
thanks for reading and I hope you can help me solving this problem.
    Grtz,
    Koen Loep

    Hello Koen
It is really stupid situation. Problem is that BIOS deleting procedure is not the same for all notebook models. All you tried is a kind of "standard procedure" but as you can see, it will not help you at all.
I am afraid you have just one solution: contact nearest authorized service provider and explain the situation. They can help you and remove the BIOS password. Try to convince service people to believe you that it is not your fault.
I wish you good luck and hope service guys will help you.

  • Need older BIOS for Satellite P100-120

    Hi guys,
I just upgraded the BIOS of my Satellite P100-120 ( *PSPADE* ) from vers.3.30 to vers. 4.30.
After that, the GPU fan stopped working (it does in startup only).
As I (too late!) found out thanks to this forum, this problem is not yet resolved:
I reinstalled the latest Nvidia driver as suggested, without result.
So I would like to *downgrade BIOS to a vers between 3.30 and 4.00* (both my fans should be working with these releases).
Unfortunately, I overwrote the bios.bak file created by Winphlash... so here I am!
Would be there anyone who could kindly let me have a copy of the older BIOS I need (1MB file)?
Or do you think Toshiba Assistance (warranty is not expired) should be of any help to me?
    Thank you in advance.

    Ciao Steffano,
Yesterday I had the same problem as you and many other with this new BIOS, but today it's fixed :) The steps I did to make my laptop become a laptop not a portable heater:
    - update the BIOS to 4.30
    - go in Windows and uninstall the nVidia driver
    - reboot
    - go in Toshiba site and download their nVidia driver
    - install it
    - reboot
from here GPU fan become alive in Windows and also unexpectedly in Linux
hope this will help also to you

  • What is the right bios for Satellite A100-749?

    Hi
I bought a A100-749 (PSAARE) in France and I would like to update a firmware. I found a firmware version 5.90 for model PSAAR (there is no PSAARE so i think this model match) and inside the archive there are two files:
    s10pm590.rom
    s10pm590.rom
    Which firmware should i use?
In following thread: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=24979 it is written that choosing wrong file freezes ;laptop on toshiba screen.
    Thanks

no, you are wrong, download the firmware for psaar and look what is inside the archive, there is a flasher (WinPhlash.exe) and after execution you need to specify the rom file, inside archive there are two roms mentioned above, the flasher don't choose the file automatically, you have to do it manually
there is also another exe file (SA10Flash.exe - probably this is a flasher, WinPhlash.exe is just a graphical interface) and using it also you have to specify a rom file
someone told me that s10gm590.rom is for Intel 945GM chipset (with graphic card built-in) and s10pm590.rom for Intel 945PM chipset (without graphics). it means that for my laptop s10pm590.rom is correct
    is it right?

  • It is impossible to update the latest BIOS for Satellite L40-17S

First of all why are there so many BIOS updates in a short time? I get my brand new L40-17S (20/05/08) with the BIOS 1.70, the Tempro software from Toshiba give me the warning to update it to 1.80 that works fine, after a few day's a new warning update it to 1.90 and now 2.00 in June! The problem is that I can't update anymore above 1.80, when I click on the winflash.exe only a short screen and then nothing.
Operating system Windows Vista 32 without SP1
I really want to have the latest BIOS before I install SP1.

    > First of all why are there so many BIOS updates in a short time?
Who knows seems Toshiba releases the drivers and BIOS like the Microsoft own Windows patches do you known a Microsoft patch day? ;)
    I think its something similar
    Another question;
Is there something wrong with your notebook?
If not, so why a BIOS update?
Ive got a notebook which is about 3 years old and there are newest BIOS updates for my notebook but I have never done a BIOS update.
Its not necessary because the machine runs troublefree

  • Need old 4.0 or 4.1 bios for Satellite P100

I have now tried updating my bios to 4.2 32BIT
However this result in no GFX fan in windows.
    My good its hot.
Speedfan says about 100 degres Celsius.
So do anyone know where i can download older bios versions.
    I have a Satelite P100-293 PSPA3
In bios the FAN runs normaly but when windows boot the fan stops.
Tried reinstalling with both XP and Vista and the problem is still there.
So I really hope someone have a url or the file lokale @ their pc.
I have tried reading the forums here and see many with errors after updating to 4.2 either fan stopps or it runs at full speed.

    Hi,
So, at first: 100 degree celsius are false. Speedfan and another programs like this one are usually 20-30 degrees higher then in real. We checked this at my home with an another notebook brand with a similar issue and we measured it with a special equipment.
Regarding your problem: did you installed some third party drivers from another sites? This could eventually be a reason that the FAN wont spin anymore since the VGA drivers are playing a really important role regarding the whole cooling system in your machine.
Please try it with the original toshiba drivers or recover your machine, maybe it helps..
