How do I reset defaults in Photoshop CS6?
I opened an image I scanned in color and when I loaded it into my Photoshop document, it is GRAYSCALE and I CANNOT get it to load as RGB at all. I had tried to set up a previous document for CMYK to see if I could do a screen print set up, and now I can't get my images to load into my document in color.
Please post screen shots of your issue so we can see what is happening.

I have Photoshop CC 2014 and Bridge CC when I double click or Open in Bridge CC Photoshop CS6 opens instead of Photoshop CC 2014. How can I change this dynamic link to open Photoshop CC 2014? Help!
Thanks Gener7, but that did not work.
I also tried opening Bridge’s Preferences> File Type Associations and clicking the Reset to Default Applications button. Then see Photoshop CC 2014 listed next to all basic image formats. but did not work
Also tried this: but did not work
--Open Bridge.
--Use the Keywords panel menu command Export to save your keywords (not in the Bridge or Photoshop folders or their support folders).
--Quit Bridge.
--Hold down the Command-Option-Shift keys.
--Launch Bridge.
--When the small dialog box appears, release the three modifier keys and elect to replace the Preferences and purge the cache. -
Set "Scale To Fit Media" as default in Photoshop CS6 print settings on OSX
Quite frequently my boss will email 10 to 30 images to me to print from his camera. Is there a way to setup Photoshop CS6 print settings so that "Scale To Fit Media" is the default. I tried to create an action and then through Bridge select a folder and Batch send the files to Open-Print-Close. Since images are never received 8.5"x11" it would be convenient to have this as a default. Since the print settings revert, or aren't defaulting to "settings last used", my batch attempt was unsuccessful. I know I could edit my action to adjust image size to page dimensions, but thought a way to edit the Print settings default must be out there somewhere. (Using MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.4) Any Suggestions?
Unfortunately "Scale to Fit Media" isn't a toggle. But let's try a workaround.
You can create an Image Size action where you will scale the picture to either 8.5 inches wide or 11 inches high, whichever works best for you. First be sure "resampling" is turned off under Image > Image Size.
You would open an iimage, then create an new action, title it "Letter 11 inches" and that's when the recording starts.
Enter 11 inches as the Height, click OK and then stop recording.
This is a quick and dirty action and assumes all pictures are portrait and not landscape. It may just work for you.
You should be able to include it in your batch processing.

I have lots of JPG files that are"sort of one-of. All I need to do is open, crop, and print. I am trying to set Photoshop CS6 as the default for opening JPG files. I got through the "Open with" process to specify C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64) bit/Photoshop.exe but it doesn't show up on the Open with list.
I have also been through the Control Pane > Default Programs > Set Acccociations which takes to the Open with window. I select there and get the same result; i.e., Photoshop CS6 never shows up on the list of programs. Finally got it to work. Went to Bridge > Edit > Preferences > File Type Associations. Bridge showed everything as expected: i.e., Adobe Photoshop CS6 was the default for JPG files. When I had looked earlier, I said OK, that looks good. This time, just for kicks, I reset all the Dault Associations in Bridge.
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!, Photoshop CS6 now shows up in the Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Default Programs > Set Associations for all the file types listed in Bridge.
The Tech service guy insisted that my Computer was the problem (I own 7 computers). Installed CS6 on two others (same problem, same fix).
Only thing that I can think of is something is not quite right with the installation program on the CD that Adobe sent me. -
Photoshop cs6 running extremely slow on opening a file. have reset prefs and set type to none. have to force quit most of the time.
I'm experiencing the same trouble. Photoshop takes 5 minutes to open then runs fine.
I recently bought a new iMac AND updated to Adobe Master Collection CS6. My concern is that PhotoShop now takes 5 minutes to open. The Photoshop desktop pops up immediately, but the moment you click on a tool or try to open a file (no matter the size) results in the spinning wheel for five minutes before you can do anything. After that, Photoshop appears to work fine.
What I’ve done:
Ran Adobe updater
Reset Photoshop Preferences
Validated all fonts and removed any trouble fonts
Ran the font test
Set font preview size to none
Cleared the Photoshop type cache and system cache
Disabled Symantec Endpoint
Tried running with the GPU processor on/off and in basic
Tried opening Photoshop with optional third party plug-ins turned off (still took five minutes but this time I didn’t even get the Photoshop desktop view until AFTER the five minutes)
I’m wondering since I migrated the files form my old computer (and older versions of Master Collection) did something get corrupted.

In this episode of The Complete Picture, Julieanne demonstrates two methods for one of the most common trouble shooting techniques: resetting the Photoshop Preferences.
http://adobe.ly/QPZVvnBeen looking for one of your tutorials referencing the kind of problem I seem to be having, but haven't located it. It concerns Photoshop CS6 and saving files to jpeg when an image has been created using levels and layers. The problem is this:
Recently I got Photoshop CS6 and started using Layers. I put stars into a night sky. Followed basic proceedures starting with noise filters and reducing the number of stars through levels and screen settings etc, I created an image that started with thousands of stars to around a hundred or so. I added some light to the stars and some color, then saved it as a photoshop image. All fine. When I tried to save the image as a jpeg, some of the layers went missing and the final saved image contained all the thousands of stars I started with. Is this a bug in the program and if so is there a fix for it. If there is another way to get around this problem and allow me to save the image as a jpeg without losing layers, that would be fine as well. I've tried grouping layers and images together and other collective methods, but the end results are still the same. Layers go missing and the sky is filled with all the stars (noise filter settings), not the finished product.
Thanks in advance

When opening an image in Photoshop CS6, in order to make the best use of the available screen area for viewing my photos, I have to either press the 'Fit Screen' option, at the top, or double-click the Hand Tool. Why doesn't the image fully fit in the available screen area automatically, when first opening? Is there a reason for images to open by default with empty space surrounding it, or is it an oversight by Adobe, in how the application works?
The view at Fit to Screen is in most cases guaranteed to be one of the WORST representations of your image you can ever see in a Photoshop window.
Sure, it has its place and it's one to which I have to resort often, but the overwhelming majority of users would be disappointed—even shocked—at the perceived quality of their image if that's the first glimpse they caught of it by default.
The only true representation of your pixels is at 100%, where no pixels have to be discarded or made up (invented).
The next best representations are the the percentage views that Photoshop defaults to when you hit Command/Control + or -.
One of those is the one that your window initially opens up to by default, and this is exactly the way it should be.
DexterG wrote:
…they scale to around 46% when fit-to-screen…
…and I can guarantee you that is far from optimal, without a doubt.
If your available monitor space would allow it, your images would open at 50%, or even at 100%, when the image is small enough.
The way the default view is chosen by Photoshop is perfect. Nothing has to be changed in this respect. This is one of the many things Adobe gets right.
Calling it "stupid" just highlights the user's lack of insight into the issue. -
How to setting Adobe Photoshop CS6 to default again?
Hello, I'm currently using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and last night I encounter some issue (after I scan my computer using some anti virus software).
after running the scanning, my Photoshop work differently, like anytime I drag some pictures into it, it will keep notice me about scaling, every time I convert a layer to a smart object, then edit content it works really differently (usually I erase some part from the layer, and the parts that was deleted will be transparent because by default the background are transparent, but now when I try to erase some part of the picture, it will become white, as the background color are white). Then every time I put a new picture on a new layer, after put it in his position, I can't freely edit it size(resize) even if the layer wasn't locked.
Can anyone tell me what happening? and how I can make my Photoshop working like usually(already tried to erase the .psp data from adobe photoshop CS6 setting folder, but the new default that it create will be the same)?
ThanksTry either System Restore or a reinstall.

I reintalled 3 times for CS6 but the default program associated with jpg file still is unknown application.
I try to change the default program, I can see the photoshop cs6 icon at the Adobe program folder.
But just can be selected.I would recommend contacting Adobe Tech Support for this as playing with registry is quite dangerous , your computer may crash.
Still if you want to try , first create the System Restore point and Backup your Registry , just incase something goes wrong.
In regedit: Navigate to Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications and find your .exe name.
Navigate under its name to shell>open>command. In the Default change its location to the actual location of the executable, hit okay and then try and reassociate the file type as you normally would. -
How to reset Photoshop preferences (In Windows):
First, hold down all three Ctrl+Alt+Shift buttons
Now "while keeping those button held," simply open Photoshop or a file that opens with Photoshop
As Photoshop loads, you should get a prompt asking if you would like to "delete the Photoshop settings file", Click yes
You should now have a fresh slate with all of the settings returned to their default.
Its strange some keyboard cannot reset photoshop after you press Ctrl + Alt + Shift buttons.
And its no pop up to confirm delete
At finally i found the problems is type of my keyboard not compatible with photoshop
i changed my old keyboard immediately and its works!!
If you have problems with Ctrl + Alt + Shift buttons cannot reset your adobe photoshop cs5 preference , please do change your type of your keyboard to new keyboard -

Unable to choose Photoshop CS6 as default app for jpegs, Win7
Suddenly I'm unable to choose Photoshop CS6 as the default "Open with" app in Win7 when I'm attempting to open jpegs.
I updated Adobe Application Manager and it says Photoshop CS6 is installed and I'm able to open Photoshop CS6 without getting the "trial version" error any more -- although that was a problem until I updated AAM.
Len CookI know exactly the problem you are having and exactly how to fix it! (For Windows 7 and possibly others) I spent an hour trying to figure it out, and it is all because of bad registry values.
Cause:
First off, it is caused by uninstalling a previous version of Photoshop and then installing CS6. (But lingering folders and registry values still remain)
Symptoms:
When you try to change a file type association with the Open With dialogue, Photoshop CS6 never appears! Choosing "Other Programs" does not bring up Photoshop CS6, and Browsing will not add it to the list!
Workaround: (REAL FIX)
Click on the Start button.
Select the search programs and files. (You may need to enable this search field if you have it disabled.)
Type regedit (regedit.exe will appear only after typing regedit completely)
Select regedit.exe.
Click yes to allow access to it.
Be very careful with the following steps as editing the registry is dangerous!!
Navigaate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command
Double click on Default.
In the value data section you may notice a path to the previous application that doesn't exist anymore (root of problem)
Change it to the path of CS6 folder but keep the extra characters beyond Photoshop.exe
Hit ok. Then close out of this window.
NOW Photoshop CS6 will appear in the list! Enjoy! -
