Resetting iPhone 4 to become an iPod without activation

Hi,
I upgraded to iPhone 5S and want to keep using my iPhone 4 as an iPod (just at home, using the Wifi).
Currently, the old iPhone is working (as an iPod). However, to make it work a little faster, I want to reset the old iphone 4, but am afraid that it will need to go through activation process, and now that I'm not with Verizon any more it might not be able to?
It's a simless phone if it makes any difference.
Thanks

You can reset the phone back to factory setting no problem, but maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong but you need a SIM in the tray to get past the setup process, even if the SIM isn't activated.
You no longer have a SIM in the phone right now?  iPhone 4 CDMA doesn't have SIM cards anyway right?  You might be able to connect it to iTunes after the restore and get past the setup activation part.  It won't be a working hone because I am sure Verizon or the Apple Store activated the new 5s under the same Verizon line.

You can't.  You have to already set up the FidfMyiPhone feature of MobileMe.

  • Can I use iphone 5 as a camera and ipod without activating the phone service

Can I buy a new Iphone 5 and use as a camera and Ipod, wtihout activating the phone?

Yes, you can. There still needs to be a SIM card in the phone if the phone hasn't been set up yet; the SIM does not have to be active.

  • After reset can't use as iPod without sim

I upgraded to a 3g iPhone a while ago and have been using my original iPhone as an iPod without a sim card.
I was planning to lend my old iPhone to a friend and thought that I would reset it before giving it to him - so I "reset all data" , which took an hour.
Subsequently the iPhone has been completely reset (as planned) but now requires a sim card to be inserted in order to activate it via iTunes.
What is the best way to go now?
Should I insert the sim from my working 3g iPhone into my original iPhone and activate it? - what will happen to my 3g phone? Will it stop working for a while but then let me swap the sim back and reactivate the 3g phone?
Any help would be appreciated as I would like to carry on using my 3g iPhone and sim card (with all the settings !) and also be able to use my original iPhone as an iPod + wifi device.
    Many thanks
    Adam

That could have replaced your 3G data package with the Edge package. That was what happened when I re-activated my orig phone after upgrading to the 3G. I had to get on the phone with AT&T and verbally get them to switch me back to the 3G plan. Otherwise they will hit you with additional charges for 3G usage on the Edge plan, in which case I am sure you will not come out ahead on. FYI.

  • IPhone, can i use it without activation?

i got an iPhone for christmas and i am wondering if i can use the features of it without activating. I do plan on activating it some time next month but, can i use the ipod and stuff on it? thanks

Nothing on the iPhone will work until it is activated, unless you hack it (which I don't recommend and we can't discuss here, anyway).

  • Using an iPhone 3GS as an iPod without SIM

I'm buying a used iPhone 3GS from a friend and he does not have a SIM card, but all I want to use it for is an iPod touch.
Do I need a SIM card to use it as an iPod touch? I read other things about how you need one to activate it to iTunes, but I'm just hoping that I do not need one.
    Help?

  • Reset iphone 4s to factory settings without password

I want to restore my phone to factory settings. I dont have the password, i cant go through email reminder as i dont have access t othe email account and the verification is not accepting my date of birth

Can you do it through iTunes?
Turn your device off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your device and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a device in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

  • How can I get an iphone to replace my mom's old phone without activating it until she opens it?

The guy at the store was a real jerk.  He said I could not get the new phone and delay the switch or activate it myself, that once I got her the new phone I could not leave the store without activating it and turning off her existing phone!  He was very rude about it and truly made me dislike the Apple store.  I had done this once before, but now thinking back I think I ordered the upgrade online.  He called me a liar and said I had done no such thing in the past that it was impossible.  I asked if I could do it if I just bought the phone full price and he said no.  He said there is no humanly possible way to buy an iphone that was not activated at the time of purchase, and if I wanted to keep her existing phone number there was no way to do it with her phone staying on until the day we gave her the new one that the minute I buy her the new phone her old one will be turned off.
This seems wrong and not the best marketing for Apple.
So is he right?  Can you no longer get a new or upgraded phone as a surprise for someone?
We have to go in now before the party to do the switch so we can get her the surprise but keep her phone on (except for maybe an hour before she opens the present and hopefully she doesn't get stranded on the road on teh way to the party in that no phone service window!...)

I will assume you are in the U.S. (only because I don't know how this works in other countries).  I will also assume you know your mom's current cellular carrier, want to stay with that carrier, and that is a carrier that works with Apple iPhone under contract (AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint).
Certainly if an iPhone is ordered through the Apple Store online, it doesn't have to be activated until the purchaser is ready to activate it.  Activation is accomplished by iTunes when setting up the iPhone.
These days, it is possible to order an iPhone from the Apple Store online, and have it made available for pickup at the Apple Store (instead of delivering it to a home or office).
So, bottom line, the new iPhone would be ready to go with a pre-determined phone number and carrier, purchased at the (subsidized) carrier rate, and become activated when the purchaser is ready to do so by plugging into iTunes.
I think that's exactly what you are trying to do, and exactly what you have been told is not possible.  I don't believe for a minute it's not possible (given the assumptions in my first paragraph).
    I hope that helps.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

how do i delete icloud account on my ipad when my apple ID is non active email and i don't know the password and can't reset password without active email

If the iCloud account you are trying to delete is old ID that was later updated to change it to your current ID, you can go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now, if desired, you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

    Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for your prompt response, however I have first seen it now. I have placed an active SIM card in the iPhone turned it off and on. It now says SIM locked, please write access code. The problem is I don't remember the password. When I connect it to iTunes it tell me that I have to write the password before it can be used with iTunes...... Do you have any good ideas? I see you are from the NYC area.... used to work there back in the early 90´   Those were good days..... What a City

Forgive me as I did this a while ago, but heres how I remember it happening:
    1. I wiped it
    2. I selected "Set up as New iPhone"
    3. It registered
    4. It was activated, and was an iPod Touch basically
    5. I sold it, so I can't try it. I now use Verizon, so no SIM, although I do have an original iPhone (retired), but can't find my old SIM.
