Resetting ipod shuffle playlist in the field

Here is my deal. On my shuffle I put four or five podcasts first in my playlist, then a few hundred songs. While I am out working, or recreating, sometimes I want to listen to podcasts, and sometimes I want music.
When in sequential play, I can listen to my five podcasts, then get music. But, if I want to listen to music (and forward through the five podcasts), I cannot easily get back to my podcasts.
My question is, how can I get the shuffle to restart at the top of the playlist? This seems to happen automatically when I synch with my computer, but I cannot do it any other way.
I can of course click the back button a ton of times until I get to the beginning, but this is not easy.

Simple: Press the PLAY/PAUSE button THREE times
quickly (within 1 second...) that will take you to the first playable track. The same method resets shuffle mode to new randomization.

Unnecessary...see above.

  • HeIp Ipod Shuffle "Playlist" no longer appear in itunes when disconnected.

I got a new laptop and was forced to load up the latest version of itunes, which for me has worked fine. I connected my first gen. shuffle and married it to my new computer. But on my old computer/version of itunes i was able to keep the "shuffle's playlist" on itunes at all times so it was easy to tweak my songs and then whenever i charged my ipod all the songs would update. now it seems i cannot keep the playlist contents of my shuffle on itunes and have to update the shuffle manually while its connected which takes much more time. Where is the setting to change this so i can see the shuffle playlist all the time?

It appears from many other posts that the " Keep This iPod in the Source List" function isn't included in iTunes 7 unfortunately. You can leave your feedback on it's absence at this link: Apple Product Feedback
You can check out a workaround at this link which may help out for now: Create ready-to-sync playlists for Shuffles in iTunes 7

  • My ipod shuffle only plays the first songs on the list.

My ipod shuffle only plays the first songs on the list even though it has several more podcasts in it. it only plays a series of podcasts instead of all of them. My older shuffle never had this problem. How can I solve this?

Your older shuffle, if 1st or 2nd gen, did not have the ability to play from multiple playlist.  It was essentially just ONE playlist that you loaded manually using iTunes.  A very simple device.  With the new shuffle, it works more like the "bigger" iPods and you can load more than one playlist (so it is more complex), but if you select a specific playlist (using VoiceOver), it works like the old shuffle.
My ipod shuffle only plays the first songs on the list even though it has several more podcasts in it.
That is probably because you are playing songs from the All Songs list, instead of choosing a specific playlist using VoiceOver.  Podcasts do not play from the All Songs list.
it only plays a series of podcasts instead of all of them.
If you use VoiceOver to select a podcast, it only plays episodes from that particular podcast.
Here's what you can do, to make it work like your old shuffle.  Create a new regular playlist in iTunes, and name it something like "iPod Podcasts" or whatever you want.  Treat that new playlist like your old shuffle.  Manually add the podcast episodes you want on the shuffle, in the order you want to hear them, on that playlist.  NOTE:  You can adjust the playlist order after adding the podcast episodes.
Select the shuffle in iTunes.  You see a row of "tabs" (buttons) starting with Summary.  Click Podcasts there.  This is the Podcasts tab, where you set up how iTunes syncs podcasts.  Check the box for Sync Podcasts.  Below that, since you have a playlist with the podcasts you want on the shuffle, you only need to go to the list under Include Episodes from Playlists and checkmark that iPod Podcasts playlist.
When you click Apply, the episodes on that playlist sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, to update the podcasts on the shuffle, update that iPod Podcasts playlist (add and remove episodes) in iTunes.  Then, the next time you connect the shuffle, iTunes automatically updates the shuffle with the same changes.  If the shuffle is already connected, click the Sync button to update.
When using the shuffle, set the shuffle's power switch to the play-in-order (middle) position.  Podcasts are skipped on playlists, if the power switch is set to shuffle.  Use VoiceOver to switch to that iPod Podcasts playlist.  The podcast episodes should play in playlist order.
NOTE:  You can load songs in the same way.  Create an "iPod Songs" playlist in iTunes, with the songs you want on the shuffle.  Go to the shuffle's Music tab, and select that playlist.  And audiobooks on the Books tab.  You can load as many playlists as you want.  The big advantage of the new shuffle is that you can have different types of content and keep them organized on separate playlists.
Here's information about VoiceOver, in case it is not already set up.

  • When I plug in my ipod shuffle(early model) the songs do not appear on play list. Play list shown is wrong.Any ideas?

When I plug in my ipod shuffle { early model } the play list that appears does not show what is actually on my ipod. Some I had deleted  before and some songs that I have never had on my ipod. appear on the list  I do not knw via the computer what is actually on my ipod. Any suggestions. Why cany itunes leave things alone. If it aint broke dont mend it. This has only happened since I down loaded the latest itunes.

Make sure that your music is in the format supported by the iPhone. I use either MP3 or AAC.
A friend had the same problem a while back. All his music was in the WMA format and is therefore not playable on the iPhone and would not copy. Once he converted his songs to MP3 they copied to his iPhone without problem.

  • My ipod is somehow synced to another library, because I plugged the charger to a wall. How can I sync my ipod shuffle back to the original Itunes library without erasing my current data in the Ipod shuffle?

",the owner sold the ipod without clearing the songs and since the songs were not puchased from the itunes store then i believe i now own the songs"
    Not true at all.
It does not matter where the songs came from, they are not yours and the previous owner does not own the right to distribute them to others.
The law is the same with downloads and cds and any other medium.

  • I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod shuffle it rearranged the tracks so that they are in the wrong order.  How can I put them in the order they appear in the book?

I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod Shuffle it put the chapters in the wrong order i.e. Chap 1, Chap 10, Chap 11 etc. rather than Chap 1, Chap 2, Chap 3 ...  How can I get it to put them in the order they appear in the book?

First, we need to know if the audiobook chapters are being treated by iTunes as music files or as audiobooks. If they are not audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store, they might be getting "shuffled". You will need to look at "File" - "Properties" (I think - I don't use iTunes under Windows - or right-click on the file and choose "properties") and look at the media type. If it is "Music", change it to "Audiobook". If this is not the problem, or does not fix anything, please post back.
Actually, looking at your post again, a second thought occurs to me - assuming there are less than 100 chapters in the book, just renaming them with a leading zero on the first nine chapters might do it. A computer will alphabetically sort filenames in the order you quote (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... 2, 21, etc.) but a leading zero will fix that (01, 02, 03 ... 10, 11, 12)

You do not.  Content is permanently tied to the Apple ID that it was acquired with.
Sign out of the computer with the new Apple ID.  STOP using the new Apple ID.
Sign in with the original Apple ID that the content was acquired with.

  • HT1473 How do I get a purchased song to play on my ipod shuffle remote from the docking station?

How do I get a purchased song to play on my ipod shuffle remote from the docking station?

I can think of only one reason a song would be "converted" while it is being loaded on a shuffle.
Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, depending on iPod model, go to the Summary or Settings tab.  There should be a setting there that says Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC (the 128 kbps part may be adjustable).  If that checkbox is checked, try unchecking it.
NOTE:  This setting may allow more songs to fit on the shuffle, but for any converted song, the sound quality will become inferior.  So I don't use it.

  • Ipod shuffle stops playing the song after a few seconds

My Ipod shuffle stops playing the song after a few seconds, i can skip to the next song but it happens again for every song..
the thing is its random, sometimes 5secs or 10 secs or at the most a whole minute
i have updated, restored, reinstalled an all that but i really dont want to send it back as im in afghanistan and would be weeks before i see it again an i use eveyday!! for running.. i thought maybe sweat had got inside it, its not the headphones i have already tried swapping them.
please help out a soldier in need?

mine is doing the same thing; I have updated it, and restored the factory settings, and it still isn't working. I use mine for running as well; I think it has something to do with the sweat. Hopefully someone posts with a fix.

  • My ipod shuffle went though the washer and dryer, Can I fix It?

My ipod shuffle went though the washer and dryer, the music works when I put my earbuds in but none of the buttons work on the ipod, I can still hear my music good but is my ipod pretty much done or there is a way I can fix it?

It's likely that the iPod's contact with moisture and soap has short circuited some of its internal components. Water and soap don't mix well with small electronics.
At this point, there really isn't much you can do other than start saving for a new one.

  • Is there a way to have an Ipod shuffle pause at the end of a playlist?

I have one playlist with one file in it and I want the ipod shuffle (4th gen.) to play that one file and then end. The ipod just keeps repeating the one file when I put it on either of the two switch settings. Anyone know how to get it to pause or shut off at the end of the song?

It's a simple player.  That's the way it works.
If you can explain why (the situation when) you need your shuffle to play just one audio file, and then stop, maybe I (or someone else) can come up with a workaround to achieve what you need.

  • When I try to sync music from iTunes playlist to my Ipod shuffle it says the iPod is synced to a different liabrary.  It asks if I want to delete the music already on the Ipod and sync it to "this" library.  I don't want to lose the music already on Ipod.

Please help.  I have no idea why this is happening and I'm kinda new to using iTunes.  I'm trying to sync music from a playlist on my iTunes account onto my iPod Shuffle (older Shuffle).  I use Windows XP on my laptop.  When I try moving the songs to the iPod it says the iPod is synced to another library.  I didn't know I had another library (but I guess it is possible because I used iTunes a few years ago too).
The only option I get is to delete the music already on the iPod and sync the iPod to "this" library.  I really don't want to lose the music already on the iPod.  PLEASE HELP.  I'm tech challenged to say the least.

  • Ipod Shuffle Playlist Issue

I only use my ipod shuffle to listen to podcasts so I decided to organize all of them into one playlist in order not to have to jump around in voiceover. My idea with this was to create a playlist of podcasts, listen to them, and then delete that playlist and replace it with another. The problems is when I delete the playlist from my iPod it still list all of the podcasts from the deleted playlist on my iPod in the progress bar at the bottom, even though there is no podcast or playlist summary for me to access. The only way I have found to delete the listened to podcasts is to reset my ipod. Is there a way to delete a playlist and its content completely so I can put another playlist on it? I am unsure what to do since I am new to iTunes and iPod usage. Also, to clarify I am running the most current versions of iTunes and iPod software and I have the latest generation of iPod Shuffle. Thank you.

Does it connect to the car system through a USB port?  A shuffle is a simpler device (especially if it's 1st or 2nd gen), compared to a nano, so some things that a nano can do, a shuffle cannot do.  Interacting with your car audio system may be one of those things...
Also, if it connects using USB, is the car audio system also able to use a regular USB flash drive (with song files on it) connected to the same USB connection?  If it is, when you connect the shuffle, the car audio system may be treating it like it was a USB flash drive (not an iPod).  In that case, the car audio system is playing the songs (doing most of the work), and the shuffle is only acting as the data storage for the song files.
If that's the how it works with a shuffle, the "6" songs that DO play may indicate a file type.  Maybe the car audio system can only play MP3 files, not AAC files.  You shuffle may have 6 songs on it that are MP3 format, and the rest are AAC format.  You should note down what 6 songs do play on the car audio system.  In iTunes, find those songs and see if they have anything in common, such as the file type.  You can do a Get Info (from a right-click) on the song in iTunes, and look on the Summary tab of the Info window, to see the Kind.

  • I bought a 4th generation ipod shuffle and got the newest itunes download.  Whenever I try to go to set it up, it shows me the squares to click but doesnt say what I am clicking on.  I have an older shuffle as well but have no problems with it.

I have an ipod shuffle (about 2-3 years old) and bought the 4th generation shuffle for my daughter.  When I try to set hers up, it takes me to a summary page, and on the left I can see ipod, version, options but the squares that I would click on have nothing next to them.  So I don't know what I am trying to put on the ipod.  Then if I click on music (sync music, playlist, artist), again, I can see the squares but not the words next to them.  Does this have anything to do with the other shuffle or computer sharing?  I am unhappy right now and have to get this fixed in two days.  HELP!!
