Resetting iTunes to recognize userid
Okay...after spending the day uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes 8.1, I decided to totally remove 8.1 and install a previous version in hopes that my CD burner would finally be recognized.
So my next step was to do a system restore to a few days ago, back when I was on version 7.5.5. I then learned that earlier versions would not open because my library was created by version 8.1., so I updated to version 8.1 again and, lo and behold, it worked and iTunes now recognizes my CD drives.
But I've created a whole new problem...my iTunes Audible Account is authorized, but only a small percentage of songs will burn because the majority apparently do not recognize that this computer is authorized.
I hoped to de-authorize my computer and re-authorize it, but because (presumably) of the system restore, the computer doesn't recognize my username and/or password anymore.
I've tried resetting my password on my iTunes account, but have been unsuccessful. (The userid/password obviously still works, or I wouldn't be able to log onto this forum.)
Any suggestions on how to reset my password on iTunes 8.1 itself?
I recently upgraded to the newest itunes. When I start itunes now I get a message that says importing library.xml - every time I start itunes. It then says that files are damaged and names it to a damaged file. I have been able to get my library back onto itunes, however it still imports every time. Also under my playlists tab it double, then triples and so on every time I start up. I have to delete the extra lists. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1st Gen iPad. Recently, it got fully drained (my daughter usually watches her movies on it). Now, I recharged it but it i don't see the RED battery icon when recharging. It did, however, make the sound whenever you plug it in to recharge, so I let it plugged in hoping that it's only because it was fully drained that's why it has a blackscreen. After having it plugged in to the wall charger with enough time to fully recharge, I tried to press the wake/home button but it did not respond. Tried doing a reset by holding down both power and home buttons, and it made a shutter-like sound but still no response on the screen. I'm leaning towards hardware failure (screen) but is there some diagnostics that I could use to confirm this? Is there any other way to try to bring the screen back up?

when i back up my iphone 5 so that i have all the info from my 4s on it, it wont put my music on it or let me do anything with it. how can i get my itunes to recognize that it is my new iphone and let me put stuff on it with out completely resetting it?
What version of iTunes are you running on your computer? You need to update to the current version.

my laptop had to be reset to factory settings. prior to that i had all my itunes songs stored on a portable drive. how do i get itunes to recognize the drive as its library?
If the library file is on the external drive, hold <SHIFT> while launching iTunes. When it prompts to select a library file or create a new one, point it to the location of the library file.
If the library file was on the internal harddrive, easiest solution is to restore it from the backup. If no backup exists, use File > Add Folder to library. Also under Edit > Preferences > Advanced, change the library location unless you want iTunes to move the media to the internal drive. -
My ipod won't do anything. it wont charge, turn on, the apple icon wont appear, it won't go into reset mode or dfu mode. Itunes wont recognize it, and no buttons work. The screen is black, and nothing i try will turn it on or give any sort of hope. It did this suddenly without any warning... what do i do? is there a way for me to fix it or is it beyond help?

How do I get iTunes to recognize a new device if I accidentally did not hit new device when I first hooked it up? I hit the button that said I wanted to back it up from my old phone. The new phone is my husbands and I don't want to back up my phone info on it. I re connected it hoping it would prompt me with the option again and it doesn't , it just shows up as a back up to my phone. How can I get it to give me that option in the beginning again
First of all, I think the first time you sync an iPod that's formatted for Windows on a Mac, the sync process reformats it for Mac. You can check what it is now by looking for the iPod with Disk Utility. If it's Mac OS Extended, it's formatted for Mac already.
Also, there is no current iPod updater app these days. iTunes handles it through the Restore button. If you are not able to use the latest iTunes because of your Mac, I can understand. The latest version of iTunes should run with 10.3.9 or later, if the hardware can handle it.
You said the battery was low so let it recharge for a while.
You should also reset the iPod. It's part of the 5Rs, which you should go through as the starting point for iPod trouble-shooting.

How can I get itunes to recognize my 7th gen. ipod nano
My wife bought me an ipod nano the other day and I am unable to get itunes to recognize it in the device menu. I have spent over 2 hrs attempting differnt suggestions with no results. I down loaded the newest version of itunes and when I plugged in my ipod nothing popped up and I was never given a chance to set it up. When I open the side bar there is no device option to sync music to the ipod, so what can I do?
Wile connected to your computer:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo should appear after a few seconds, then the Home screen should appear.
That is a reset and your nano should show up. -

How do I get my itunes to recognize my account, it seems to be stuck on my friend account even when my ID show up as sign in, only when I try to update an App, that my friend account appear. I try to reset it on the computer and the phone itself, but no luck. Please advise

The Touch Copy third party software for PC's is the way to go it seems and although the demo is free, if you have over 100 songs then it costs £15 to buy the software which seems not a lot to pay for peace of mind. and restoring your iTunes library back to how it was.

After having the iPod Touch4 for one week i can no longer get iTunes to recognize it when i connect it.
1/ The USB cable is fine
2/ I have completed all troubleshooting steps suggested by apple support

So, my next step was to do a reset back to the original factory settings (even the ipod is only a week old). When i click on restore in iTunes (because it recognizes the iPod is in recovery mode) i get the message - 'the iPod software update server can not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later.
I have now gone through the troubleshooting section on the apple website with this issue and now can not even restore the iPod.
Can anyone else give me any advice as i can only think i am going to have to end up taking the thing back for a swap/refund which is pretty frustrating when it worked perfectly for a week and then started playing up for no apparent reason.......You did not specify what Apple troubleshooting you tried. It is easy to miss Apple articles.

I live almost 3 hrs from the nearest apple store and I really dont want to have to be with out my phone. also its less than 3 months old so im thinking its not the battery needing replaced. anyone help me out here?
Sounds like the dock port on your iPhone has a problem. It is in warranty so you will need to get it serviced.

hello! i tried to install OS5 in my 1st gen IPAD (16gb) and it froze in the process. My IPad still runs normally (on OS 4) EXCEPT itunes cannot recognize, sync or even charge my IPad!
That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it... -
