Resetting Mac 10.4.11 to factory settings

I have a Mac 10.4.11 (Tiger iOS) & want to reset to factory settings. I don't have the start up disk(s). One suggestion stated the start up disk(s) were needed.
Also, suggestions as to how to back up the contents?
Thanks!!
Michelle

You definately need the original grey disks (2). Then you can put your system back to original contition. An external harddrive could be used to clone the contents of your existing harddrive.

If by resetting to factory settings you mean she erased the drive and reinstalled the operating system, OS X, then yes all data thatwas on it is gone. That is why apple included time machine so you can make backups of your data.

Hello, I am trying to reset my macbook pro to its factory settings but I can't type the name of the formatted disk nor can I click on erase, as this feature is disabled. The 'type name' space and the 'erase' button are in light grey - Could you please assist?

    Hello!
Did you boot to the Internet Recovery Partition?
    Here’s how:
1/ Make sure your computer is completely shut down.
2/ You’ll have to be quick next: Press the Mac’s power button. As soon as you either hear the loud chime, or see the display light up - usually after a second or 2 - on your keyboard press [alt] + [cmd] + [r] Keep these keys on your keyboard pressed until you see a spinning globe with the text “starting Internet Recovery” You might have to connect to your Wi-Fi network before you can continue here.
After a few minutes, you’ll be presented with a Utilities screen. This is the Internet Recovery partition. If this step is already giving you problems, try using a USB-keyboard. It doesn’t have to be an Apple-keyboard. If you have a Windows-tailored keyboard laying around, use the “Windows-flag” key in stead of the [cmd]-key and it should also work.
3/ Choose Disk Utility and click [continue]

How do I reset a Macbook to the original factory settings?

    Restore to original:
Boot from your grey installer DVD disc 1, or SL retail installer disc (hold down the C key on startup or hold down Alt/option on start and choose the installer disc).
OK the language page (if present).
From the installer screen, do not click 'continue' - go to the menu bar and choose Disk Utility; depending on the OS version it may be in the Utilities menu or Tools menu.
In DU, select your internal drive in the sidebar (the top item with the makers name and serial no.).
    Run Repair Disk (not permissions). If that comes up as disk OK;
Click the partition tab. Select the partiton from the drop-down above the graphic; 1 partiton is all you need. Go to the options button and ensure that the partition scheme is GUID  and the file system to Mac OS Extended (Journalled).
Name the partiton (usually Macintosh HD), click Apply.
When that's finished, select the new volume in the sidebar (indented to the right below the drive) and go to the Erase tab.
Select Security options and select zero data (one pass is more than sufficient). Click erase. That will take quite some time; probably measured in hours and dependant on the size of the drive.
(The purpose of this step is to ensure there is no recoverable data left on the drive).
When that's completed, close DU and continue with the installation.
When installation is complete, after the restart ignore the setup assistant and shut down the Mac (you may have to do this by holding down the power button).
The Mac is now ready for the new owner to personalise it as if new.
Be sure to pass on the original grey discs with the Mac, and the SL retail disc if you loaded SL.

How to restore mac osx 10.6.7 factory settings

If you want to put the Mac back to the state it was in originally, boot to the first gray DVD it came with and do an Erase and Install. Make sure you back up any personal information first, because it will be gone.

I messed my color sync profile up. How can I reset my color sync profile to factory settings?
Core 2 Duo, OS Lion (not mountain)

Hi, yes, I messed it up by trying to edit it.
I just clicked configure and changed the options. Is there a factory setting I can reset it to?
The problem when I try to get it back to normal is that it never looks just like it did. It looks mainly fine, but things like light blues look wrong.

how do I restore my Mac OS 9 to its factory settings?

Insert the install disk, restart with the C key held down, select the internal drive, choose Erase Disk from the Finder's Special menu, and install an OS onto it. If you are shown an installation screen instead of the Finder straight away, erase it from Drive Setup if not given an explicit option by the installer.

  • Hi I want to reset my old PowerBook G4 to factory settings. How can I do that if I don't have the CD any more? thanks

I want to reset my power book to factory settings for my daugther to use. I dont have the start up cd that came with it. Does any one know how I can do this?

In response to Michael Black, here are some links to operating systems comparable with the PowerBook. All of them vary in price and age. Another option would be finding a compatable version of Linux, that would be the best free idea.

  • How do I restore Mac Mini late 2009 to factory settings. Error occurs.

I have a late 2009 Mac Mini with 2.26 ghz core and 2 GB memory running Lion 10.7.4. I wish to restore my computer to factory settings but when I put in my Snow Leopard disc I continue to get an error message that reads "You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X. You have Install Mac OS X 23.1.1."
I wish to restore my Mac to Snow Leopard and then redownload Lion from the App Store and start fresh with 10.7.4 on my restored Mac but I am finding it incredibly difficult.

You might have to erase the Drive first, but did you try reinstalling Lion from the Restore Partition?
    Hold CMD+r keys at bootup?
    Otherwise...
      1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
       3. Click the Erase tab.

  • How To Reset Mac Mail 3.6 To Default Settings

    Hello Mac People!
6 months ago I was using a third party tool with my Mac Mail. The tool added an auto BCC address to every outgoing mail. I no longer use the tool and deactivated the third party tool. But there was an error in deactivating and the BCC address is still attached to every outgoing email. I asked the third party tool and they tried everything to fix it, but nothing worked.
I visited the Genius Bar and they said the only way to fix it now, would be to reset my Mac Mail to the original settings (aka start all over) and then re-add each email account, folder, rule, preferences, etc.
It's a pain, but I have to do it.
Problem is I forgot how to save all my current emails in Mac Mail so when I reset everything I can re-import my current emails.
I also don't know how to reset Mac Mail to its original settings.
    Please help. Thanks!

    Thanks GS,
I did do this with the Genius Bar, but possible we missed something, so here's a list of what was in each folder:
Home/Library/Mail/Bundles > Nothing in this folder
    /Library/InputManagers > 1 folder (http://screencast.com/t/YjdiMjRmM) I think unrelated
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins > Several files (http://screencast.com/t/ZTk3M2QyOD) most I know are not related, a few I don't know what they are from.
    Home/Library/InputManagers > I don't have this folder
    Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins > 2 Files (http://screencast.com/t/Y2ZhZmM0) I think unrelated
Ok let me know if this makes any sense to you. Thanks!

can you see the wi-fi address in the about? if it show N/A, your iphone needs to be repaired.
if your ios is 5.1.1 or you can see the wi-fi address, you could try to  connect your iphone to the itunes to restore and update.

  • Is there any way I can reset my laptop to the original factory settings?

Is there any way you can reset your MacBook Air to the original settings you first recieved it in? I've noticed I have way to much junk to go through and try to delete it all and when I try to delete something it does the poof thing it's supposed to, but later I notice it has not been deleted. I've tried restarting my computer, and completely turning it off for 24 hours then seeing it its gone, but it never deletes.

Use the MacBook Air's thumbdrive, or for those models which shipped with Lion, its recovery partition, to erase the drive and install a new OS.

  • Resetting Lenovo Thinkpad T450s Back To Factory Settings/Clean Install

Hello, The T450s came with "Windows 8" installed and I freely upgraded to "Windows 10 Home Edition" following prompts. ---
Need a clean install with a new windows version "Windows 10 Enterprise" so:
. I created a bootable USB 3.0 with "Windows 10 Enterprise" on it.
. Went into BIOS and changed the boot order.
. F11 into boot utility, followed prompt and chose reset from media option
    Issue:
. Even after choosing the media type "USB FDD", the laptop just resets back to logon screen
I have read a few posts about "Creating A restore Disk" etc, not interested in that. would like a clean wipe and fresh restart. I can re-download all the required drivers from lenovo afterwards.
What are my missing out here? Is there another change required in the BIOS?

Try giving boot priority to USB HDD rather than USB FDD?
