Resetting macbook air running yosemite
I am trying to reset a macbook air running yosemite. When I get to to OS X Utilities, I try to connect to the wi-fi but it tells me "could not be joined" doesn't give me the option to put in the password. Now going to utilities and selecting "Join Other Network" I can get to where I can type the network name and password but then i get "No network found"... Anyone has encounter this?
Older versions of the OS used to work just fine.
For the last time, the Mac OS has never been able to write to a NTFS partition without 3rd party software. So, if you were able to do it in the past, you had to have been using some software that you can't remember installing.

I have a new MacBook Air running Yosemite 10.10.1 with Quicktime 7 but would like to know if I can view my .mkv files on Quicktime 7 or are there any approved software I can run that's safe for Yosemite 10.10.1.
Hello kimosabe0731,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! At this time, QuickTime does not support the playback of .mkv files. For more information, see the following resource:

Hey all,
I'm planning on helping my aunt migrate her trusted old 2008 MacBook (white, non-alu) running OSX Lion 10.7.5 to a brand new MacBook Air running Yosemite.
Is such a migration between the mentioned two versions possible? Or is Lion 10.7.5 too dated for a successful migration to Yosemite?
I hope someone can provide an answer - I would like things to go smoothly for her.

Cookies repopulate after I use Safari<Preferences<Privacy to try to remove some, but not all cookies. They don't seem to repopulate after I use Safari<Clear All History, but then I am logged out of sites to which I'd like to remain logged in. I use a MacBook Air, running Yosemite 10.10.1.
Hi,
I have an update so I thought I would share in case any other users are experiencing a similar problem.
I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.
I went in and they ran a thorough diagnostic check on my Macbook Air and determined that the sensors were indeed faulty - several were providing no information "No reading" instead of providing a temperature. Thus, the Air was unaware of the temperature across multiple components.
Despite the laptop being outside the 12 Month Manufacturer Warranty, the Apple Store determined that it was covered under warranty through Australian Consumer Law - the laptop is now in for a complete repair under warranty at no cost to myself.
I couldn't be happier. -
Slow startup issue on MacBook Air running Yosemite
Hi. My mac is starting slowly, taking about a minute. It seems to get held up in the blank screen phase after the power-on self test. It's not a massive issue but is annoying and a solution would be great. Thanks.
Problem description:
Slow startup.

ICloud won't log in on my Macbook Air running Yosemite, says "You can't sign in at this time"
When trying to log in to iCloud, I get a "you can't log in at this time" message every time. I have no idea how to fix this issue. My password is correct since it works on my iPhone, and i have changed it too see if it would fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated since this effects me using Yosemite and my MacBook in general.
I ended up rebooting the Mac and resetting network preferences on the iPhone. Works now. It's a pity that was necessary after doing something so simple as changing my Apple ID password.
The continuity/handoff reliability situation is a little flakey at the moment (as is that with AirDrop).
Also, and the settings required to set these great technologies up are byzantine in complexity on both platforms - it's a shame, as this kind of convergent approach is Apple's chance to set itself apart, but as things stand, very few will manage to set them up. -

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.3, and Safari V8.05. I want to reset Safari, but there is no reset in the Safari drop-down nor is there a reset in the Preferences - Privacy window. Any Help out there?
Hi, thanks for the response. I have searched online and many posts say to reset Safari all you have to do is click on the Safari icon, then select reset from the drop down menu, or find the reset button in the privacy window in preferences. My system has neither options. My Safari had been hijacked (frozen) by a pop-up. I cleared all history, cookies, cache, etc. with the wifi off, and it seems to have worked so far. Many posts said to reset Safari, and I don't seem to have that option.
Thanks again. -

InDesign problems on Macbook Air running Lion.
HI folks,
I have recently purchased a 2011 Macbook Air, running Lion. I have a copy of Indesign CS4 that I am trying to get running on this machine. I previously had it activated on my macbook pro and had no problems. I deactivated it from that computer and have activated it on the new machine. After creating a new document in InDesign I find that I get the beach ball and it won't do anything. Have any of you had a similar experience? Do any of you know the solution to this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
James.Well, you haven't given us lots of detail - but only because there aren't that many details anyways, right?
Did you install from the original media? (It never would have occurred to me to just drag apps off one machine and drop them on another, but people do this sometimes.)
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall? (That's what I'd do first if a fresh install of a program was borked from the very beginning.)
Have you tried it as a new user? (If it works in a new user account, then the problem is with your user account, not with your install of ID.)
There are other things to try - search the forums for removing the SING datastore, or resetting preferences - but really the uninstall/reinstall should make it work right off the bat, and it also should take less time than actually diagnosing the problem & fixing it. -
Updated my Macbook Air to Yosemite and now IMessage won't open pictures
I updated my Macbook Air to Yosemite a few days ago and since then IMessage has been acting up. It won't let open pictures now. A picture comes through titled "IMG_2882" but when I click on it, it comes up with a description of the image - the type of image, when it was last modified, etc. I click the 'Open with Preview" option and nothing happens. I'm regretting updating to Yosemite now. Is anyone else having this issue? I have no idea how to fix it. Please let me know if you have any ideas! Thank you!
If it is the third party apps crashing - try downloading another app - any free app is fine. See if that resets the other apps.

Macbook Air running OS Mavericks won't print wirelessly to Officejet 4620
I'm running a 2014 macbook air running OS 10.9.3 with an officejet 4620 all connected to the same wireless network. I have an older Macbook running OS 10.7.5. The older macbook will print fine wirelessly to the printer. The new macbook air will connect to the printer and scan from the printer. However, when I try to print something from word it says it's sending the job to the printer and that the job is complete, but nothing prints. It doesn't even try to print. I went into HP settings and printed a test page without a problem. I'm guessing it has to be something in OS Mavericks. Anyone have any ideas?
Welcome to the HP Forums Sanduvall,
I read your post which indicates that you can't print from Maverick, but it will scan.
I can help you with this.
Are you using the newest drivers from HP?
HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers - OS X 10.9 Maverick...
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. The Airprint driver might be installed instead of the Printer's driver. (usually defaults to Airprint)
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen should show the name.
If the printer name shows Airprint then that is the Apple drivers, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
Test the printer again.
If you are still having issue then please try the following steps:
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
Restart the computer.
Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon ( ), and then click System Preferences.
Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign, then select the printer from the list and click on the Add button.
(make sure it shows the printer name beside Use, not the Airprint driver)
Try printing again.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
Have a wonderful day!
Thank You.
Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
Click the “Kudos Thumbs Up" on the right to say “Thanks” for helping!

Macbook air java (yosemite 10.10.3) java help
Hi, I have a mid 2013 macbook air with Yosemite 10.10.3 using java 8.45. i am trying to log into my employers remote desktop site and the java applet that is supposed to pop up is not popping up. it gives an error. i have searched the net and tried things such as giving permissions to the employers website in the java console but nothing seems to work.
Hi Gixxter,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into an issue loading a webpage on your MacBook Air because it requires a specific version of Java. Take a look at the article linked below which will help you get the latest version of Java directly from Oracle or a legacy version Java from Apple.

Sound difficulties with MacBook Air running 10.9
I have a MacBook Air running 10.9 OS X Mavericks, everything was going fine after the update. Except now after my MacBook goes to sleep for a couple of minutes the next time it is turned on sound in both the built-in speakers and headphones doesn't work. It only comes back on if I reboot my MacBook, and then works fine until I accidently let it go back to sleep and have to do it over all again. Do you know of anything that would cause this? Or how I can fix it?

Factory reset macbook air - HOW??
Hi there,
I have an 11" macbook air running Mavericks, and have since acquired a new macbook pro retina. I want to give the macbook air to my son, but before doing so - would like to perform a factory reset. I am not sure how to do this. Is there a process, or are there steps that anyone could walk me through? I have tried restarting while holding "command" + "R." but it looks as if I can only do a software restore, and it won't do a clean re-write of the whole system (including user home folders, etc.)
Please help!!Essentially this is the procedure: Preparing Macbook for sale.
