Resetting my HP Pavilion G Series laptop after Free Windows 10 upgrade..

I recieved the upgrade for the free Windows 10 upgrade on my laptop and upon restarting it the first time I noticed that all the icons and background were gone and the only thing on the black screen was my Advanced System Care Pro Performance Monitor that is always pinned to the desktop luckily, since its the only way to restart my laptop now. I have to restart my laptop 3 times before any icons show up on the screen and then I have about 5-10 seconds to quickly hit the new Windows Start button and then the Settings button and quickly hit the Firefox Logo that is also luckily still working. As soon as I get these two things open  the icons and background stay up for a bit longer, (maybe 20-30 seconds) then the icons and back ground and apps  start flashing in and out in what I have only guessed is the two operating systems are competing because I can only open certain things in Settings menu like Device Manager (which is greyed out) and when clicked brings up an error that reads about a missing element, although, if the icons are still flashing the Device Manager will become black and I am able to click it but I have to get it just right when its flashing to black which I have to do in the 20 seconds. Also, when I try to click the Reset this PC button I can only click it when the icons are still flashing in that 20-30 second window so I have to get there quickly.  Firefox works normally at least. I've posted my issue and the Microsoft Community boards but no one has even tried to answer yet. I want to know if I reset the laptop will it reset to a clean Windows 10? Will that list of all the HP and pretty much every app on the computer going to keep it from working because my grandmother recently passed away and left me her laptop and it doesn't have any disks with it so I can't put all the those apps back on if I do reset. I also get a Runtime Error when I unplug the power cord from the laptop.  I have tried various things like downloading Legacy drivers, new AMD Radeon drivers, all drivers are up to date, starting in safe mode, starting from different boot modes with only start up apps, tried to manually disable apps from the Device Manager one by one, and nothing has worked or changed what is happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok if i were you I'd roll back the installation as I suggested ro whatever platform you were using prior to the windows 10 upgrade. But if you want to spend the  time trying to get to the bottom of it then you could refresh the windows 10 installation while having your machine disconnected from the internet if the problem returns while disconnected from the internet then there's some issue with the windows installation on your machine itself and if I were you I'd roll back to your previous installation and leave it a couple months till they work the bugs out. BUT IF THE MACHINE WORKS FINE DISCONNECTED THEN I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TURN OFF THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE FOR YOUR DISPLAY DRIVERS AS DETAILED IN MY OTHER REPLY.  But if you can't be bothered figuring it out with trail and error and just want to roll back so you have a properly working machine so you can investigate this properly for yourslef then rollback using these steps. CLICK ON START AND SELECT SETTINGS  CLICK "UPDATE &SECURITY" CLICK ON "RECOVERY" AND THEN "GET STARTED" if you can get back to your original installation you can at least then take a note of drivers and their versions and research to see if anyone else has any specific issues with your machine type - I moved up from 8.1 and only had one minor issue and they only people i've seen complaining about major issues are those who upgraded from windows 7 so it maybe worth rolling back so you can at least get more informed. Also before I ran windows 10 I ensured that all the windows updates had been done before hand and that all HP system drivers were done before too. I'm sure this aided my transition but as i commented those who seem to be struggling are those on older hardwares. Let me know if you get it sorted.

  • V5-571P Laptop not on Windows 10 Upgrade list...really?

I'm still struggling to believe that Acer is not including the V5-571P on the Windows 10 upgrade list.  The exclusion is certainly at odds with the materials that Acer and Microsoft have promoted about the availability of the upgrade. Will the upgrade be blocked actaully preventing me from installing it?  The Windows 10 upgrade button would appear to support this as my prior confimred upgrade now shows as unavaiable and to check back later. Is this lazy engineering on Acer's part not wanting to support it.  Would really like an explanation how a 2 1/2 year old laptop is not on the list.  Acer CEO feel free to give me a call about letting your customers hang out to dry.  Guess that's what I get buying from a third-tier manufacturer...note to self. Anyone else have experience or sucess with this model and upgrading?  Hoping to rid myself of Windows 8.

This list:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows10-eligible-modelsdoesn't mean that you can't upgrade to windows 10 but only that Acer will provide driver support for the following products....it's just a matter of drivers support, so you can let windows 10 upgrade them for your or manually check if windows 10 fails to find new one but you will never find on Acer support webpage any windows 10 drivers for your model. you can download the upgrade from here:http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

  • Iq524 touchsmart software update after installing windows 7 upgrade

After upgrading to windows 7 , and opening up the touchsmart program, there are icons at the bottom that look identical for the webcam, hulu, and the browser. They look like a picture of a monitor( blue and white) with a hand and finger pointing upwards. When you drag them to the area above, there is nothing there except a black screen. The icon is gone from the bottom tray. When you left click on the black screen. a small circular moving halo appears and then it just stops. I have upgraded all the drivers, one at a time as suggested in some earlier posts. Is this an hp software compatability problem with windows 7. Makes you want to go back to Vista Home Premium that came with the IQ 524 model. Any divine guidance?

I gave up on windows 7 upgrade.  Venders for some devices have not even supplied drivers for some things yet.  Very untimely and too much of a rush to windows upgrade always a problem.  "If not broken don't mess with it."  Someone said that awhile back and that is the best advise.

  • Audio will not work after a Windows 7 upgrade.

    Hello
I have recently Installed Windows 7 to my Lenovo 3000 N100 Type- 0768, 6XG. Everything works perfectly accept for the sound. I have tried to install different audio drivers to see if anything works. I have also been on other forums to see if this is a common problem. It seems that some people get their sound working and others don't.
Does anyone know what sound driver I should be using?
Could there be another problem which I don't see?
Is the best bet for me to restore my computer to factory settings!?
    Please help me.
    Thanks

have you tried to install drivers manually?
after you locate the .inf file for the driver that you want to install, manually install the new driver. to do this, follow these steps:

    - if you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click continue.
    - in device manager, locate the device for which you want to install the driver.
note to display hidden devices, click show hidden devices on the view menu.
    - right-click the device, and then click update driver software.
    - click browse my computer for driver software, click let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, and then click have disk.
    - in the install from disk dialog box, click browse, locate an .inf file for the device driver that you want to install, and then click open.

  • WIFI doesnt work after the windows 10 upgrade

hi i'm having a wifi problem once i've  upgraded to windows 10to be short , my wifi is disabled and i cant activate it neither manually ( Fn + F12 ) or authomatically (via windows )i tried to update my drivers ( they are all updated ) and the strange thing is that my bluethoot works perfectely !i'm having also a driver that says it is damaged it has a yellow triangle in it , this is its name ACPI\HPQ6001\2&DABA3FF&3thanks for your help

Finally I've solved it! I have a "HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook", I used to turn on/off mi WIFI with FN+FN12 combination in Windows 7. When I've installed Windows 10, I realized that this combination does not work anymore, it only enables/disables the Airplane Mode.  My assumption for the root of the issue is; if somehow if you forget the WIFI turned off during Windows 10 installation, it stays turned off from the BIOS, and if you dont have a hard switch (not a key combination) to turn it on you will not be able to turn it on via the keyboard, because FN+FN12 combination will not trigger it anymore.  For my Pavillion solution was (as someone mentioned it in the forums earlier) to load the default options from the BIOS, which will reconfigure your BIOS and WIFI will be "Hard Enabled" as it was in Factory Defaults. Don't forget to "Save and Exit" when exiting the BIOS menu.  Good Luck!

  • Aspire R7 572G touch screen stopped working after a windows 10 upgrade, pls help

I did a windows 10 update, but to my dismay I lost my touchscreen functions. I checked the properties on MY COMPUTER and it now says, pen and touch input not supported. Help pls

Hmmm.. I upgraded my R7 572G but my touch screen is ok. I'm not sure what you did. However, my problem was the screen does not auto-rotate in Windows 10. So I went to this folder to run as administrator to fix the auto rotate problem and it works. C:\OEM\Preload\FIXAUTOROTATE\EnableRotate.cmd

  • My HP Pavilion dv2500 series computer (dv2845se). Computer won't come on -Case Manager contact me

I have a HP Pavilion dv2500 series laptop (dv2845se). Pushed power button to use and computer would not turn on at all under battery or ac power. I would like to speak to a case manager about this.

You cannot get to a Case Manager through this Forum. We are peer users (consumers) like you. That model series has known defects in the motherboard. Of course, it is now at least 4 years old and long out of warranty. HP will fix it for you but it will cost $300-400. There are many services on the internet and ebay that will do a good job repairing the faulty chip on the motherboard for around $100 or less. Personally, if it is possible financially I would get another laptop if I were you. Even with a repair the unit is inherently unreliable. You are lucky to have gotten as long a life out of it as you have.

  • HP Pavilion DV7-7008tx Laptop - Raid 1 for two 1TB HDDs?

    HP Pavilion DV7-7008tx Laptop
    B3K25PA#ABG
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Hi,
    I have a Pavilion DV7 with two 1TB HDDs and a 32GB m-sata cache/ssd.
I would like to put the two HDDs into a RAID 1 (mirror) array.
When I enable RAID I loses the ability to boot into Windows.
I have verified that the Laptop will run the two HDDs in RAID 1 as I can run a Linux Boot disk ahd then boot into Windows 7 succesfully.
Something in the Raid /Boot  configuration is not allowing the Laptop to boot directly into Windows.
Any ideas or instruction would be helpful please?
    Regards
    Gazman

    Hello @Micro-Motive ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues booting after setting up RAID 1 on your DV7-7008tx notebook.
When setting up RAID 1 mirrors you need to enable the feature and then format the drives. After they have been formatted Windows must be reinstalled. If you have not already done this, please try it now and let me know if you still have the problem.
Why: Enabling the Raid 1 feature does not automatically mirror the drives. The Boot MGR is looking for the content on both drives but is only finding it on 1 and thus fails to load.
I think it's also important to explain that setting up RAID 1 with a 32GB SSD flash along with a 1TB mechanical drive is going to drastically reduce your storage space. RAID 1 mirrors the content on both drives so it can read from both at the same time, increasing read and write speeds. The downside to this is that the mirror only works to the extent of the smallest drive. Thus, your turning your 1TB drive into a 32GB drive.
See here for more information: Chapter 19. GEOM: Modular Disk Transformation Framework This article is for FreeBSD users, an open source Unix-like operating system but the same rules apply as RAID support occurs at the BIOS level.
What you may want to do is install a hybrid drive. A hybrid drive will allow you to use the speeds of SSD at a fraction of the price. You can read about this here: Hybrid hard drives: How they work and why they matter.
Let me know if you need any more information or if installing Windows after enabling RAID 1 does not work.
