Resetting Network Settings? Can't connect at free internet cafe

I'm having issues connecting to wifi at a free internet cafe. When I start up Firefox, it should go to a logon page where you enter some info like age, location, etc, and after you fill this out you are connected to the free wifi and can browse freely.
When I launch firefox it just sits there trying to connect to my homepage with no success. I have another laptop (non mac) and it connects straight away to this logon page.
I don't know if I messed around with the network settings but is there a way to reset them to default factory settings? The reason I ask is because I have another "test" login account on my Mac OS X and when I launch firefox it goes straight to this logon page, where as my normal account doesn't.
I'm wondering, could it also have something to do with my homepage?
Thanks.

Hi! It's been a while but here's the latest update on the case.
(And yeah,I've been struggling until today to find a solution...Danny's personal advice: don't move to Italy if you don't wanna get lost in a Customer Service nightmare...)
Anyhow, it turned out to be as simple as this:
1) Create a location dedicated to the home network.
2) Insert PPPoE user name and password given by ISP.
3) Connect.
4) Browse wirelessly.
...I feel a little dumb overlooking this option....but, I still have some doubts reg the procedure.
Why did I have to create a dedicated location?
Why do I have to use PPPoE rather than DHCP?
Thanks mate,
D

  • Can connect to my house network, but can't connect to the Internet (other computers can)

    Hello,
I'm experiencing a strange problem. Since I started my Mac Pro (cold start) some hours ago, I've lost the hability to connect to the Internet (Safari and Mail say I'm not connected). However, I can connect to 192.168.2.1 (my router) and see its webpage (it says it's connected to the Internet). If I use another computer on the same network, it can also connect to the Internet.
Weirder, if I go back to my Mac Pro with "no internet" and launch Parallels Desktop, then I can use WinXP to browse the Internet; I'm writing this post on my WinXP virtual machine.
This leads me to think there's a problem with how my Mac OS handles the networking. I have checked the Console, but the only related string I found is this:
    16.04.13 22:03:25
    kernel
    SIOCPROTOATTACH_IN6: en2 error=17
As expected, Google doesn't reveal anything about that (and I'm connected with the first ethernet port). I've tried to restart my Mac, but the problem persists (exact same symptoms).
Could it be a DNS cache issue?
I don't see, other than a DNS problem, why I can't connect to the Internet with my Mac OS while I can on my virtual machines. If it was a driver problem, I wouldn't be able to connect to my router. If it's a DNS issue, where are the DNS caches located in order to clear them (I'd trash the folder)?
I could also reinstall the OS (waste of time, btw), but I'd really like to understand the problem, not just clear it and forget about it.
Or better than guesses, anyone already experienced this?
    Any help welcome.

If it's a DNS issue, where are the DNS caches located in order to clear them (I'd trash the folder)
No DNS caches, it looks up the alphabetic and then uses the numberic from then on.
    http://17.149.160.49
is Apple, Inc main US web site. It that works, and the alphabetic does not, you have a DNS probelm.

  • AE detects my wireless network but can't connect to the Internet

I have a DELL PC with a Linksys WRT54G router. I recently had an Airport Express installed into my Mac Mini so that I could access the Internet wireless. Although Airport Express detected my existing wireless network, I am having problems connecting to the Internet. I read several of the helpful articles in this discussion forum and using the information I learned I was able to successfully connect. But then I accidentally tampered with the settings on my Mac Mini and now for the life of me I don't recall what I did to get back onto the Internet?
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    1. unplug the DSL
    Modem and router
    2. plug the router back in and wait for the display
    lights to indicate ready.
    3. plug in the dsl modem and wait for it to display
    ready.
    4. turn on the computer that is hardwired to the dsl
    modem and router
    5. then try to get online thru my Mac OS.
Is this correct? Or should I do something else?
Perhaps disconnect everything including the computer
    and attached ethernet cables?
Close, but you need to reverse the power-on order
that you described for the modem and router, as
    follows:
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the DSL modem, Internet Router, &
computer(s). (If possible, leave the modem off
    overnight.)
    - Power-on the DSL modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the Internet Router; Wait at least 5
    minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
You don't need to disconnect any of the cables.
Thanks so much for your help. Everything you suggested was right on. I am not running both my desktop PC and MAC wirelessly.

  • Please help... Reset PMU and can't connect to wireless internet

I have an iBook G3 800. I took a trip and when I unpacked it, couldn't get it to turn on. I looked online on another computer and read the suggestion to reset the PMU. I did it, and my comp turned on. Only when I tried to connect to a wireless network, it didn't work. It seemed to be connected, but no webpages would load. I tried in a different location, with a different network, one I had used before. My comp identified the network, but when I tried to connect, I get an error message: "There was an error when trying to connect to the airport wireless network etc etc."
BTW, I had further trouble with starting up, but resetting the PMU worked, and that problem seems to be behind me. I also tried resetting the PRAM (or whatever equivalent the ibook has. I'm pretty ignorant.)
Thanks in advance for all your help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I travel a lot, and I find the easiest thing to do is to use the Setup Assistant to set up a new location. That will usually get you connected, and then that location will be saved under whatever name you gave it. Then if you return to that location, you can just click on it to get that particular setup. I have done that with both dial up and wireless.
    Good luck!

  • Can see the wifi network but can't connect to the internet

    Hi all!
I've begun using a new ISP a few days ago, and while my desktop pc works just fine (ethernet), I seemed not to be able to connect to internet with my mac (either ethernet or wifi) even if I could see the wireless network. I thought it was an issue with the ISP and not with my mac, until last night when I tested it at a friend's house and bling..I couldn't connect there either!
All seetings seem fine both for ethernet and airport. Today I've verified and repaired disk and permissions. I've also created a location specifically for this network (while I've always used automatic before) since the ISP suggested to do so.
I've been able to use the internet, both wifi and ethernet, until literally two days ago on all sorts of different wifi networks.
    Any ideas folks?
    Thanks,
    D

My iPad got disabled and once I waited the 15 minutes I logged in, but from then on I could not connect to server dispite having 2-3 bars of wifi signal.  The same thing happened to my iphone5 at the same time although this had not been touched by my 3yr olds.  My wifi is very intermittent and often it goes from 3g to GPRS on my iphone. I have reset network settings, turned devices off by home button and off button, removed sim card in phone, etc. I'm stuck.

you have definitely tried the correct steps, all you would need to do now is a back up & restore to factory settings. If after that the issue remains then you would most likely need a replacement unit.

Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on both your iPhone and your iPad to make sure that the following are all true:
    (1) you have selected the same Apple ID on both devices,
    (2) you have the same entries checked under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" on both devices,
    (3) you have the same entry checked under "Start new conversations from:" on both devices,
    and
    (4) that the entry checked in #3 is one of those checked in #2 on both devices.
When you say it has affected your iCloud account, what effect has it had?

I started getting a Timed Out error message on my iPhone 5 when trying to browse the internet tthat reads Page could not be loaded.  Connection timed out.  I performed a Reset Network Settings and am still getting the error message.  What is the fix?

Thanks so much for more direction.
I realized that I bought this iPod T4 about a year ago, so decided to check the date and it is still under the 1 year ltd. warranty until 21 Dec.  I contacted Apple via Chat and was informed that the problem may lie in the version of iTunes I was running 10.7.  Today Apple released v. 11 of iTunes which I was instructed to download.  It's TOTALLY different from iTunes 10.7 - drastically different in fact.
The Apple Chat Rep set up a phone call appointment forl 8:00 pm ET tonight where another Rep will call me to make sure the restore was accomplished OK.  With v. 11 of iTunes I can't even find the restore option!!!  The phone Rep will have to help me navigate v. 11 of iTunes.  It doesn't seem intuitive at all.  Maybe it's just me?!?!
Thank you for sending this new link for firmware.  It's not clear to me right now whether I'll need it or not.  The phone Rep will probably somehow be able to resolve the problem.  If not, they'll probably send me to the nearest Apple store if the problem is hardware, as it would be covered under the warranty.  I will give another update as to what transpires as a result of the phone call with the Apple Rep.
Again, thank you so much for helping me.

  • Some devices won't connect to wifi network after resetting network settings to default

    Hi all,
I had to restore to the default settings on my 4th generation Time Capsule today and now half of our devices will not connect to the wifi network.  The macbook pro (mid 2010 OS 10.9.4) that I used to reset the time capsule with and my iPhone 6 (8.0.2) both can connect just fine.  However, our household's two iPad Airs (8.0.2), an iPhone 4s (iOS 7) and a Macbook (late 2009 OS 10.6.8) all can't connect to the internet.  The macbook connects to the network, but an exclamation point appears over the wifi symbol.  The two iPads and the 4s won't even connect to the network.  I initially named the network the same as before with the same password, but then changed it thinking that might be the issue, to no avail.  I've restarted the Time Capsule and all the devices that can't connect.  I've also made them forget the network and try to rejoin.  The router is connecting with DHCP, it is in bridge mode while connected to a cable modem, and the wireless security is set to WPA/WPA2 Personal.
I'm at my wit's end.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your cable modem is a pure modem the TC must be in router mode.. ie DHCP and NAT.
It is easy to find out.. check the IP you get on the WAN of the TC in airport utility.
Your limit is because only one or two public IP are available.
If that is the not the problem please give more info.
    What modem do you have??
And give some screenshots of the setup .. summary page from the TC and network and Internet tabs.
