Resetting Network

Hello, I'm currently in a bit of a situation. I have an IBM T42 laptop that I would like to connect to my wireless router (WRT54G v 2.0) but, for some reason, I can pick up the signal of my router but I'm infinitely at "Limited or no Connectivity." I'm not really sure what the problem is, and I've tried all the basic things a million times over in the past year that this problem has existed. I have tried connecting on this laptop using both and Intel PRO/1000 MT internal card and an external Netgear WG511T external network card and I get the same result. However, with this setup I can connect to other wireless internet networks, and also other laptops can connect to my wireless network fine. However, the situation is a bit more difficult because I cannot seem to find much of the wireless information like two of the access keys (out of 4) and I also do not know the user name / password for the network. So, my first question is: Is it possible to completely reset both the router and network back to square one, so then I could remake a network without having to enter the user name or password for the system? If so, would I possibly be able to fix this problem with the limited or no connectivity? Any advice or help would be extremely appreciated. Thanks, Mark

well..i guess that you have a wireless security enabled on the router and the laptop is using an incorrect key to connect to the network..hence , limited or connectivity...
now,if you don't know the router login password..the only solution is to reset the router and reconfigure it...after the reset, the default router login password is "admin" (w/o quotes) .
so,if you want to reset and reconfigure the router , let me know the router model number and the isp details , whetehr cable or DSL ...

    Additional things to try.
    Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

    Call your phone carrier - that's a problem for them to resolve.

    I would try another restore of the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. Maybe something went wrong in the process. Make sure everything works before applying any updates and adding any hardware or software.
    Then add things carefully, rebooting Windows and testing the USB and audio at each step.
    Please note this.
    The only info windows gives me for the sound card is that it from Microsoft... with a driver version of 6.1.7601.17514....which naturally doesn't really help me since I have no idea what card or mobo I have . Is there any way for me to find out what I need other than opening up my laptop?
    Every one of them lists my mobo simply as a Toshiba motherboard, with no audio card information. Which I'm assuming that is because it has an internal sound processor. My problem is that none of the properties, or ANYTHING I try, will give me information on what I need to fix this...

    Just out of warranty. This is a software issue. everything was ok until the software update. Apple just need to sort it out.

    If Join was on then your home wi-fi must be set to Non-Broadcast.  If you did not set this up (maybe your provider did) then you will need to find the Network Name they used, and any password they used.  The SSID is Security Set ID and to see more try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID .  Basically it is the name used to identify your router/network.  A lot of times the installer will leave it set as LinkSys, or Broadcom or whatever the manufacturer set it as for default.  Your best bet is to get whoever installed it to walk you through how they set it up, giving you id's and passwords so you can get in.  HOWEVER, if you are not comfortable with this (if you set security wrong, etc.) you would be well ahead of the game to hire a local computer tech (networking) to get this working for you.  You can also contact the vendor of your router and get help (if it is still in warranty), or at least get copies of the manuals as pdf files.  Sorry I can't give you more help, I hope this gives you an idea where to go from here to find more.

    Hopefully someone can help. Every time I need to access emails when I'm out this iPhone fails me.  Today, I tried to access an email from a client which consisted of 2 words "That's fine".  The wheel thing spun round, and round, and round, and round....  6 minutes later it displayed "this has not been downloaded from the server".
    I tried in vain to re-load but nothing. The only thing that seems to work is to "reset network settings".
    This then means that my wifi settings at home now need re-inputting, as do the wi-fi settings  at 3 of my other workplaces.
    If I could, I would swap this for a Samsung or something.  It's a constant source of frustration and embarrassment ( when I'm with clients)
    I've had the **** thing replaced at the Apple store and I have phoned my mobile supplier t-mobile/EE ( don't get me started on them...) about 20 times and no-one can make this problem go away. I hate this iPhone.

    Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

    Definitely sounds like an issue with your Wi-Fi network. Do any other devices on the network have similar issues? Is it an issue only with downloading apps? You can check by trying to load a website in Safari.
    I would try turning your Wi-Fi router off for 1 minute, and back on again.
    After doing that, disconnect and re-join the Wi-Fi network on your iPhone and try downloading an app again.

  • My wifi wasn't working for more than 10 minutes at a time after updating to IOS8 and resetting network settings. I turned off google drive, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings and rebooted my iPad4. So far so good.

    I have an ipad4.  Wifi keeps cutting out after the upgrade even after I forget the network and resign on or reset all network settings. I deleted iCloud drive from my iPad, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings, and rebooted my iPad. Since I upgraded to IOS8 this is the longest wifi has consistently been working for me. Which is approximately an hour now. Anyone else find that this worked or have figured out if this or anything out there is a permanent fix?

    So sorry to hear about the trouble with Wi-Fi! Let's get that working the way it should. Could you provide us some more details regarding where this breakdown occurs? Are you having trouble with turning Wi-Fi on or connecting to your Wi-Fi? Are other devices connecting to your Wi-Fi without issue?

    My iPad wifi was working great until I I connected it by Bluetooth to a keyboard (zagg).  It was the first time I'd used Bluetooth
    Immediately Internet was dropped on my ipad. My iPhone was and is still connected no prob. And I cannot get the iPad wifi to work again....at all!!!
    This is major as I am away from my desktop for three months.  Any fix cannot involve being at my desktop with iTunes which is 10,000 km away
    So far This is what I've tried based on other discussions-
    -turned Bluetooth off and unpaired to keyboard which was also turned off
    - turned iPad wifi off and on (several times)
    - forgot the network I useArrive Jul 19 depart Aug 25th. Originally it was Sept 9.

    What happens is that the iPad sees the network and I enter my password. But, instead of getting "check mark" indicating a successful connections it keeps "circling".  Sometimes the airport bars will show, but disappear or flicker.  It never connects with a check noted in settings.   Any attempts to use internet confirm there is no connection
    My network is not a cafe or public network. It is one I regularly use here at my family's home where I am visiting
    Any ideas!

    Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

    Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

    Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on both your iPhone and your iPad to make sure that the following are all true:
    (1) you have selected the same Apple ID on both devices,
    (2) you have the same entries checked under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" on both devices,
    (3) you have the same entry checked under "Start new conversations from:" on both devices,
    and
    (4) that the entry checked in #3 is one of those checked in #2 on both devices.
    When you say it has affected your iCloud account, what effect has it had?
