Resetting options when writing or reading a PDF

The user had Adobe PDF Writer X. When printing a small pop up window would appear asking if the user would like to Save, Open or Cancel. At some point the user checked the "Do not ask again" box and Opened the document. Now the options do not appear. How to I get those options to appear again and clear out her previous choice?

Adobe provides no "PDF Writer X". There is Adobe Reader (the topic for this forum) and Acrobat (the topic of another forum).
Adobe Reader (any version) does not / cannot create PDF, does not export PDF page content and cannot manipulate PDF page content.
Acrobat can create PDF, export PDF and manipulate PDF page content.
The first step is to correctly identify which application, application version and OS is in use.

Form underlines all become solid boxes when saved as Reader Extended PDF

I create a form with Live Cycle Designer ES2.
My firm prefers underlines, not solid boxes, and not sunken boxes.
Underlines.
The form looks good, but as soon as I save it in Acrobat Pro X as a Reader Extended PDF->Enable Additional Features, all the underlines automatically turn into solid boxes.
A co-worker creates similar forms purely in Acrobat Pro X (NOT Live Cycle); none of his underlines ever morph into boxes.
The general opinion around these parts is that the boxes look hideous.
Is this normal behavior? Why does it only happen with forms created in Live Cycle?
What can I do to keep the underlines I spent so much time creating in the first place?

I'm getting closer to resolving as at now text can be entered in non-signature boxes. Given who will be completing these forms I'll stick to e-signature rather than digital. Do I use a different form field for those or does the recipient plug that in from the Sign section in Reader?

Java Does Not Throw Exception When Writing To Read-Only Files

I have noticed that when I try to write to a read-only file in a window environment, Java does not throw an IOExcpetion, it just dosn't write to the file.
I am writing an FTP server and here is the code:

Firefox crashes when using adobe reader retriving pdf files

For instance when I tried to get a pdf file from the IRS web site using adobe reader firefox crashes it also does the same thing on other sites with pdf files what would be the problem and how could I resolve this issue.

Have you looked at the Knowledge Base articles [[Troubleshooting plugins]] or [[Using the Adobe Reader plugin with Firefox]]? There is some good information in there. You may want to try reinstalling the plugin as well or updating it if it is out of date.

Mac pro 13'' harddisk makes noises when writing and reading data, but Techtool scanning result shows no bad blocks in the disk, that is normal?

I bought my Mac pro 13 inch, i7 processor and 750G storage 20th November 2012. But I found when copy into or out the Mac, the harddisk makes noises, like bitting something. I thought there are bad blocks in the disk, but the result of Techtool scanning is no bad blocks in disk, and giving a passed conclusion.
I went the apple store for testing, and the repairmen told me there are two choices available for me:1) replace the harddisk 2) back to the store i bought machine from for a new one. i think that the machine only bought few days, it had better not be disassembled, so i went back for a new one. unfortunately, the new one makes more noises than my old one. i don't know why like apple named brands notebooks have such problems. did you undergo this experience ?

All of the HDDs, be they in my MBPs or enclosures are barely audible. I would say the you deserve no less. I suggest that you do not leave until you are satisfied with a near silent HDD.
Why you got two in a row is a puzzle, but then some people beat the odds and win the lottery. In your case the results are not exactly positive. All HDDs eventually fail, and some fail sooner than others. At least you should start with a quiet one.

Problem in reading a PDF output file using URL and HttpURLConnection class

When i am reading a PDF file generated from a given URL, I am getting the response code as 200 but the content length is -1. Can anyone tell me what will be the problem and solution to this.

Solution is to read the whole stream until -1 is returned.

When I try open a .pdf file my Adobe Reader 11 only allows the download / save opening the related window and don't show me both options 1) open with ... and 2) save as.... probably someone flagged the choise... always perform this way ....

PDF form text fields' options change when opened in READER on a MAC.

I created a PDF form using Adobe X PRO. All fields are UNCHECKED for Property/Options/ "scroll long text". I save and distribute the form as a "reader extended pdf/enable additional features" so it can be saved and returned using READER.
When a Mac user opens the extended form in Adobe READER, ALL the text fields change to scroll. When he returns the completed form to me, every text field, even signature and date fields, are changed to scroll text.
What is happening in the transition from PC to MAC?

Preview is the default PDF viewer on the Mac. It should never be used with PDF forms. Just let them know that they should use Adobe Reader. Provide a link or URL where it can be downloaded and let them know that it's free.
There are things you can do so that it doesn't work in Preview, but it involves some scripting. If interested in this approach, post again.

I believe that I figured it out.
holding finger over a word, will bring the copy/define menu
holding finger where there is NO text, empty space or image, will bring up the annotation menu.
but note that if you have a scanned document, where the words are actually an image, you will get the annotation menu, since there really is no text, just a bunch of pixels that look like text...
you can turn scanned text into "real" text by using OCR functionality of the desktop version of Acrobat Pro (not Reader), it would then create a layer of invisible text under the image of the text.

The steps I’m following are described below:
1. Insert electronic signatures
- In Tasks, click on “Add New Field -> Digital Signature”.
- Move the square to the place where you want to put the signature and click.
- Fill in the “field name” with the name of the person who has to sign here.
- When it is done, click anywhere on the screen.
- In Tasks, click on “Close Form editing”.
- Go to menu “File -> Save as -> Reader Extended PDF ->Enable additional features”, click on “Save now”.
- Fill in the file name and click on “Save”.
2. Save the Form
- In Tasks, click on “Close Form editing”.
- Go to menu “File -> Save as -> Reader Extended PDF ->Enable additional features”, click on “Save now”.

Not sure what you mean by "tried to use Word". ExportPDF doesn't change what Word can do. Can you explain what you try and what happens in more detail?
