Resetting original Mac Mini Owner Information

HI Gents;
Bought a slightly used (2 Month Old ) Mini and so far love it.
Question... is there a way to re enter "new owner" info.. and elminate
the original owners names and entries.? Owner was not sure.
Front row comes up wsith "Joe blows Mini" etc...
Thanks

That's not so easy!
You can change the name of the computer by opening the Sharing preference pane and altering the computer name at the top, which is likely where 'Joe blows Mini' comes from. You can also create a new user account for yourself in the Accounts preference pane, and with that set to administrator status, can give yourself permissions to access the home directories of the prior user and remove or move files from in there - and even remove the original user's account. Don't, however, simply rename any home folder, sine the system won't be able to recognise it afterward. The accounts preference pane also allows you to change passwords and customize startup preferences for accounts on the system.
Of course you can also change the name of the hard drive as you see it mounted on the desktop. By default it's something like 'Macintosh HD' but many people change it. If you point at the name under the icon and click twice, you can then type in a new name.

  • Original Mac mini and 1680 x 1050 resolution

I have one of the original Mac mini's with the ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card. Can this be used with a 22" 1680 x 1050 DVI or VGA display?

My PPC 1.42 w/1g RAM works fine with my Dell 22" widescreen at 1680x1050 utilizing VGA input, BUT will not reliably display the same using DVI as connection method. It acts as if it is overwhelming the system using DVI.
Not the display...I had it replaced.

  • Resetting a Mac mini to original factory settings without a disc.

I have a Mac mini that the previous owner did not erase all content. I was hoping to reset to factory settings without a disc. The on-line restore to factory settings seems to suggest that I need to enter an Apple ID. I have one, but I'm not the original owner. Will this still work even though I'm not the original owner?

I'm going to hijack this thread a little. I also have a 2012 Mac Mini that I wanted to wipe clean, I'm very confused because i keep getting different answers to these questions, especially at Apple Store
    a) Purchased in Dec 2012, it did not come with disks, people keep saying "use the disks that came with it", what am I missing here ?
    b) When I wipe it, does it go back to the original operating system (10.6 I think), or the latest I upgraded to (10.9.1) ?
    c) Eventually, after it is wiped, it will have a new Apple ID, is this a problem (resale) ?
    d) After it is wiped, it will not have any previous personal stuff (web, banking, settings, etc) ?
    e) What is this process called, or how is it performed, so I can search intelligently online
    Thanks

  • Original Mac Mini (2006) owner needs help!

I have the 2006 Mac Mini Intel Core Duo with 512MB of memory. I would like to add additional memory which I'm trying to do through Crucial. Is this the best way? Can I install the chips myself?
Also, I need to offload 8,000 photographs from the hard drive but am not sure if there is a compatible external hard drive. My software version is 10.4.11.

Yes, you can install memory yourself. Your model has a max of 2 GBs. Info should be in your user manual. If you don't have one then download a copy here.

  • How do I reset my mac mini password

I have just returned from 4 weeks away and cannot log into my Mac Mini. The Op Sys OS X 10.8.4 Mid 2010
Might be complicated by that fact I am using a logitech windows keyboard, but then always have. I can access the Guest account and confirm that the keyboard keys do seem to operate correctly.
I have followed a number of routines I have found on this discussion group, ie rebooting using Command S and Command R but they dont work......just bring me to the opening login screen.
I have a time machine backup......but before I do a factory reset is there anything else I can do to reset the password.
Strangely I always save passwords in a dbase but the saved password is definitely not working and no 'reset passwprd' option is displayed after my 3 failed attempts.
Thanks richly for any help out of this mess. Oh one other thing....I have use of a friends macbook....could I use that macbook as the keyboard?

  • Original Mac Mini with Samsung P2770h LCD

Yesterday I picked up a Samsung P2770h from CostCo. Swapped out my old Viewsonic 22" LCD and it worked perfectly on my Windows 7 system, but not my Mac.
I've tried booting in Safe Mode, but nothing appears on the display. I've tried DVI-DVI and DVI-HDMI.
I've tried booting with the Viewsonic and then swapping the cable to the Samsung, but apart from an occasional flicker, I have a blank display
I checked the ATI website for new drivers for the Radeon 9200, but it said Apple provides them.
I vaguely remember having to change a setting when I first got the Viewsonic, but I can't seem to find the information.
Any help is much appreciated. The new display is so good on my Windows 7 system, but if I can't get it to work on my Mac it will probably go back !!!
    Thanks,
    Steve

Ok, after several hours more testing, I am making some progress. By logging in to the Mac remotely using LogMeIn I can see what is going on even if the Samsung monitor goes blank. I can successfuly set the Mac screen resolution to anything, except the native 1920x1080 The next highest is 1600x1200 and it works fine, but is far from ideal. So my conclusion so far is that the graphics card can't support 1920x1080 which is disappointing, but not that surprising given the fact that this Mac Mini is 5 years old !!! But I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable will prove me wrong
    Thanks.

  • Original Mac mini and LaCie firewire drive

    Hi all,
I've tried looking through previous posts but can't find anything that seems to relate to my problem.
I've bought a LaCie 250Gb external drive and a DVD burner - both firewire and tried hooking them up to my mini but I can't get either to work.
Tried them individually and swapped cables - also tried with a different cable but still no joy !
I know the port is ok because I connect a video camera and my iPod through it.
I'm guessing that the firewire is 400 and the devices are probably 800 - could this be causing the problem ? Do I need new/different cables ?
    Thanks for your time

  • How to go wireless with original Mac Mini

I bought a Mac Mini when it originally came out and at the time had no reason to get Airport installed, being that it was an extra $75 or so that I didn't have at the time.
I am now moving in with some friends, all PC users, who share a wireless network with the folks that live below them. My only option at this new home for connecting to the internet is to go wireless.
I'm wondering if this is even possible with the earliest versions of the Mac Mini and if so, what exactly do I need to do? I've read so many conflicting suggestions, such as USB Sticks, Ethernet options, etc. but no one seems to have had the sure fire way.
    Help. Please

There is a complete Airport/Bluetooth upgrade kit for the original G4 minis, but of course it's not for general resale since there are "no user serviceable parts inside". You should be able to get your local Apple authorized service provider to obtain and fit the kit for you.
Alternatively, there are retailers I have seen advertise the kits for sale to the public, you you can try searching for one, and either going to your Apple service provider or fitting it yourself (it's not difficult but requires some care).
In my experience, USB WiFi adapters have proven sufficiently unreliable and problematic that I really wouldn't suggest you go that way. You could, of course, cable your mini to the wireless router/access point if it has ethernet ports and you are sufficiently close to it, and thus avoid having to do anything but buy an ethernet cable and run it between the devices.

  • Why don't original mac mini disks work anymore?

Recently the hard disk of my mac mini had to be replaced. On the new hard disk I'm now trying to reinstall iLife, but the computer won't accept the disk. I've checked and the same happens when I try to run the hardware test with the original disks. All other disks will load (Microsoft etc). The problem seems to be limited to Apple products. Anyone any idea what is happening?

I have Lion on the hard disk, and I had the same version of lion on the broken disk. iFactors (an apple service point) did the repair. This is the third hard disk in this computer. My Mac mini seems to get through one a year. iFactors replaced the last one too. My iMac (also lion) will read the hard disk without any problem. Apple telephone support have no suggestions at all.

  • Original Mac Mini and Leopard... possible?

I have an original 1.25Ghz Mac Mini and was thinking about upgrading to Leopard, but was wondering if Leopard would be too much for my old Mini. From what I see in the system specs, for a G4 it needs to be higher than 875mhz, so my Mini falls into the specs, but just wondering if it would really have the horsepower.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!!!
    Ken

I've now been running the 1.25 G4 mini for almost a week with Leopard, and even with 512Mb RAM I've been quite pleased with it's performance. Memory seems to be an issue because it looks as if Leopard is grabbing it all, but it's dynamically allocated so as much as it looks like it should be choking up with nothing available for apps, that hasn't proven to be the case. Indeed, it has been running with 4 'spaces', each with an active application running, since the installation and it is responsive and completely stable.
Overall, it is as I had expected - pretty much similar to Tiger in overall performance on this system. It runs the same number of apps concurrently with very similar results, excepting that Leopard offers not only the same option to run them all in the same screen as prior MacOS versions, but to also spread them across multiple 'Spaces'. Enabling the latter causes a very small performance hit, no appreciable additional CPU load, but does add some flexibility to working with the system. In some ways it allows some of the same advantages as having multiple displays, which of course the mini doesn't facilitate.
There's no transparency to the menu bar on the G4 systems, but the 3-d dock's reflectivity is present (for those who like that effect).
All in all, very workable, even in 512Mb. 1Gb should give more responsiveness, and those with 7200rpm boot drives should get even better results.
Mine was an upgrade install rather than erase or archive since I wanted to see how it behaved. It went extremely well. The same cannot be said for my aged G4 powermac however, which has taken 3 days to get installed and stable!

  • Reset my mac mini without install DVD

How can i reset my new Mac mini server without having a DVD with IOS Mountain lion server?

Restart your Mac Mini using the Command+R keys. This will boot you into the Recovery HD which will let you use Disk Utility to erase your Macintosh HD and Reinstall OS X both from the OS X Utilities Menu.

  • New (possible) Mac Mini Owner

I am thinking of upgrading from my mid-2007 20-inch iMac (320GB/2GB RAM) to a Mac Mini (500GB/4GB RAM). i primarily use my desktop for writing, checking email, surfing the web and playing music/videos. i use my laptop for making music with logic -- i might open files in logic on my desktop but don't do recording on it.
    I have a few questions:
-- any recommendations on affordable monitors? i need a cheap but good one. what connection is best for monitor?
-- i use my webcam often for skype and facetime. what do you use? are there still webcams that work with apple products like ichat or facetime? any that could be plugged into the USB3 port and affixed to top of monitor?
-- i have two external drives: firewire800 port for my time machine backup and a firewire400 port for my media HD with my iTunes library and videos. can i daisy chain those two drives and use the 800 port on the macmini?
-- worth getting an exernal dvd/cd burning drive? does that use USB?
thanks for any/any help and suggestions.

I recently (just weeks before the new mini came out) upgraded to the MiniServer & I am pleased with it. My old machine was a intel core duo 24" imac
For a monitor I went with a: Monitor - ASUS VH242H 24″ (23.6″ Viewable) Widescreen LCD Monitor about $170 on Amazon
For a webcam I got a: Rocketfish 2.0MP Widescreen HD 720p USB Webcam about $13 on amazon
I also upgraded the RAM (memory) to 16GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory KomputerBay also on Amazon for about $55
You most likely will not be able to share the TimeMachine but, you should be able to share your iTunes library & movies

  • What is the highest OS for the original mac mini?

I have a G4 Mac mini with OS X 10.4 installed.  What is the highest level OS that will run on this machine?  And what is the highest level OS that can switch over into OS9?
    Thanks-
    Robin

    1. Mac OS X 10.5.8.
    2. The capability to boot Mac OS 9 natively depends on the computer's hardware and isn't a function of Mac OS X. The last Mac OS X version to support running it in emulation is 10.4.11.

Not with the splitter. Yo need two seperate VGA outputs from the Mac.
This may work as a second one:

What model Mini do you have? I suspect a G4, I do not think they natively have to video outputs.
