Resetting PRAM no longer works using Leopard

It seems that Leopard has changed the way to reset PRAM. Holding down the command-option-p-r keys no longer works on my iMac and PB. Anyone know the new way to reset PRAM in Leopard?
Thx
lenn

Hi! A pram reset is at the hardware level before the OS starts to load so leopard isn't apt to have killed it. Are you using a keyboard other than an original? I just tried resetting mine on my G4 with leopard and it worked fine. Tom

  • Automator workflow no longer working under Leopard

Here's what I had - I use the Sonos music system which has a limit on total metadata. The longer the file path the more data was used. Therefore the folder system set up by iTunes (which I could not get rid of no matter what I tried) would end up using a lot of the data limit.
I created an Automator task that did the following:
    1. Looked through my iTunes Music folder (on an external hard drive) for any folders.
    2. Took the contents of the folders and moved them to the iTunes Music folder.
    3. Searched through the iTunes Music folder for the now-empty subfolders
    4. Moved these empty subfolders to the trash.
Using Leopard's Automator, I tried running my old workflow and got several error messages. Worse, it appears to have deleted my old workflow (can't find it anywhere) - whether or not Automator deleted it or I did accidentally, I no longer have it.
Trying to replicate the old flow, I simply cannot put together instructions that work. I can't seem to empty the folders out, so that the folders in the trash are filled with the songs. Once I even accidentally moved the whole iTunes folder into the trash. I can't get the last "move to trash" command to work without an error message though it seems to actually work no matter that there's an error message.
This shouldn't be too hard, but maybe I'm forgetting something simple. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Adam,
Numbers 3 should be free if you had it on your machine before (you were using Numbers 3 before, right?).  In App Store you might try clicking 'Account' under Quick Links and Reset all warnings for buying and downloading. And, if necessary, also contact Apple to get that charge reversed.
I can't reproduce the script problem here. The fact that the Paste and Match Style is greyed seems to suggest that your copy of Numbers thinks there is nothing in the clipboard... Are you sure you don't have one of the many clipboard enhancement type applications on your machine?
To test that you could try manually copying text into the clipboard (from say, TextEdit) and check to see if Numbers accepts a paste.
Another thing to try: run the script from AppleScript Editor to see if you get the expected results from there.
And also try this:  Open Terminal and at the ~ prompt type this command:
        date +%H:%M
It should respond immediately with the time in 24-hour format.
If you do get the time as expeced and you can't the the original script to work again,  then try the script below, which avoids the clipboard.
    SG
    tell application "Numbers"
set t to front document's active sheet's first table whose selection range's class is range
tell first cell of t's selection range
set value to do shell script "date +%H:%M"
              end tell
    end tell

It sure does appear that somehow the parental controls are linked to the widget issue in some fashion. I have two different accounts for my children (each with parental controls), one for my wife (no parental controls), a guest account and of course my administrative account.
After reading your replies I solved my problem (at least for now) by: 1) turning off the parental controls on my children's accounts; 2) logging into each existing account and; 3) logging back into the administrative account. When I finally got back into my own account, the widgets were all working again just like they did before. We'll see if this resolves the issue for the long-term (or at least until Apple can patch Leopard a little bit more).
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • I wiped my computer, and now iTunes doesn't work. Does iTunes no longer work with Leopard, or did I do something wrong?

I wiped the computer using the original OS disk so I could give it to my mom in July. iTunes worked when I did it. I just updated the system and tried logging onto iTunes for the first time since I wiped the memory. I can log on, but nothing appears on the home screen. It looks like I can download files from the internet and import them into iTunes, but I can't access the stuff I've purchased from Apple. Is the iTunes Store no longer compatible with Leopard? Do I have to purchase a newer OS to access my purchases? Or did I do something wrong?

Hi, likely something else isn't updated, maaybe Safari?
Is his he version you have, & Safari 5.0.3 or more?

  • VNC no longer working after Leopard install

I have been running Vine Server on my machine for several months now without a hiccup, and I've really gotten used to being able to access my home machine from work. However, after upgrading to Leopard last weekend, my remote access no longer works. The Vine Server application appears to be running just fine, but when I try to access the VPN from work (using TightVNC - same as I've always done) it just hunts for a few minutes and then tells me it can't find the network.
I haven't changed any settings on either the router or the Mac. Any idea what's going on here? How can I get my remote access back?

Screen sharing is broken for me as well, trying to access a mac mini server (was snow leopard - is now Lion) from an iMac using the Lion server admin tools. It says "Connecting to "192.168.1.7"" but never connects.
SSH connects though so perhaps you can wrestle control of the server using the terminal.
I can't use the machine locally, the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive and there is no hdmi output to the Sony Bravia that its connected to.
I'm pretty close to doing a full re-install but I need to track down some urls posted on one of the blogs that the server was running first.

  • How to update screensaver that no longer works with Leopard or Snow Leopard

Hello. I have a favorite screen saver that would no longer work when I installed Leopard...and it also does not work with Snow Leopard either.
Can anyone tell me if I might be able to fix it and make it Snow Leopard compatible? Could I possibly open it up in Xcode or some other program, and make the appropriate changes?
I also have several iTunes plugins that quit working when Leopard was installed...and I'd like to do the same for them.
    Thanks!

check with the vendor of that screensaver to see if there is a SL compatible version.

only if it's an open source screensaver with source code included. impossible otherwise.

  • Reset Prefs No Longer Works in CS5

I used to be able to reset prefs with the standard 3 key hold down CAS. No dice. 15 minutes trying gets no reset.
I see a manual process for earlier versions, but none for CS5, especially on Win7 64.
How do I get there, and how to reset reset prefs so it works?

The culprit is...."Start Bridge at Log In"!
Yep! I checked Bridge CS5 on XP no problem, but I also noted that Bridge was slower, as one might expect. On Win7, it is instanta.....! Cripes! It's already started!
I unchecked the startup box and every thing (and body) is happy.
Now, if I can just remember this next time......
Thanks for the tips anyway, and pass it on before someone passes out with apoplexy!
Edit: You would think canceling in Processes would have done the job, but it didn't.

  • GetURL no longer working - used to!

I've got a Flash file which I have recently updated with my
new all-singing-all-dancing CS4. In Flash 8 it all worked
perfectly. I used getURL... I set allowScriptAccess to "always" in
the html file, set publish settings to "Access network only" and
there was never a problem. However, now I am publishing in CS4
(still using AS2) it no longer works. I've checked the html file...
looks fine. Any ideas? It works from the machine on which the code
is written (sameDomain?) but when run on another refuses to access
the Internet. The funny thing is that if I drop the Flash file into
another application such as PowerPoint or Smart Notebook it all
works perfectly. It's just when it runs through IE on any machine
    other than mine.
    Any help gratefully received!
    Rick

Hello again kglad, good to hear from you
I'm writing a series of short flash applications for schools
to use in teaching geography (do you remember the jigsaw picture
you helped me with?) I do one a month and they are posted on a
website for download. At the end of each application is a page with
'links' to pages on a website for further info. Users are able to
click the links and go to the web page. I've always used getURL
etc. (see previous message for settings). However, all the previous
ones (written in Flash 8 but using the same AS2 code) have worked
perfectly when it came to the links. The problem arises if, say, I
put a copy of the .swf and associated html file onto my computer at
school. The Flash runs faultlessly when run through IE but when the
page is displayed with the links on none of them work. You can
click them and they appear to respond but nothing happens. The
wierd thing is if I drop the Flash into another application (for
example an Interactive Whiteboard page) the links work perfectly.
Any ideas? Have I got a setting wrong somewhere? They all look fine
to me. I've checked the html file and the publish settings in
    Flash. Bit of a mystery.
    Regards, Rick

  • Fax no longer works in Leopard

I have used the fax on my PowerBook for years up through Tiger and it continues to work on my iMac with Tiger. But neither of two machines with Leopard will answer the phone anymore (except manually with "Answer Now").
I posted this previously, sorry if this is bad etiquette, but in my business I really need the fax and also from the replies I received previously, I decided I wasn't clear enough ...
    - The ONLY change I have made is changing to Leopard.
    - I do not dial in to the net.
    - I have no external modems.
    - I have not changed anything about the way I (now try to) receive faxes.
    - I can manually answer on both machines and hear fax tones. It's the auto pick up that's not happening.
    - The ONLY change I have made is changing to Leopard.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
Thank you very much in advance for any help.

I had the same problem and found this thread while looking for the answer. After some troubleshooting I looked at the system log and found the following errors messages:
Aug 14 21:38:23 silverbox com.apple.efax[73412]: /usr/bin/fax: line 537: cd: /var/spool/fax: No such file or directory
    Aug 14 21:40:23 silverbox com.apple.efax[73462]: /usr/bin/fax: line 563: /var/log/fax/tty.modem.log: No such file or directory
    I created these two directories:
    /var/spool/fax
    /var/log/fax
They are both owned by root, permissions 755. Now it automatically answers incoming faxes.
If you are still having problems, check your log for those error messages, or just try creating those directories. Hope that helps!

  • Why does airplay no longer work using my ipad and apple TV

After the installation of the newest iOS for both my ipad and iPhone air play no longer displays video thru my Apple TV, it does give me the ability to listen to the sound, but does not display the video. All systems are using the latest software.

Hulu plus an Amazon block their content from being used with airplay. However the video app with either your own videos or iTunes video should work correctly, is this the video app that you are referring to.
If indeed airplay does not work correctly with any of your apps..
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Imessage no longer works using microphone

After installing ios8 Siri no longer speaks when home button is pressed. Cannot use the microphone option to dictate imessage. Apple needs to fix these issues or allow re-install of ios7 to my iphone and ipad.

This worked for a while but now it's back to the same old problem.  Any other ideas?  This is super annoying.

  • IChat video no longer working after Leopard upgrade

I always used to be able to video chat with everyone and then after my Leopard upgrade, no such luck... I looked through the user tips and here is what I have done.
    1) Have you done the Quicktime Streaming setting ?
    Yes, I have it set
    2) Are you running your Mac with the Firewall On ?
    Nope
    3) Did you upgrade from Panther ?
    Nope
    4) How are you connected to the internet ?
Airport Extreme. Do I need to do set anything? We use it in 802.11n and nothing else.
    5) Do you have any iChat Add-Ons ?
    Nope
    7) Does it have anything to do with connecting to a PC ?
    See Here and here
    8) List your Connection speed
    6.7Mbps
    Any ideas??
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    2) Set the Firewall in Leopard to Allow Specific applications and service and add iChat to the list.
With an Airport Extreme I expect you have been getting Error 7
If the Modem is a Cable modem then nothing should be done to the Airport
If the modem id SDSL and routes then the Airport should not Share An IP and also the ports in the modem need to be opened with UPnP or pointing at the IP the computer has after you stop it Sharing an IP.

I recently upgraded to Leopard and 10.5.1 (all at once) and now the Ctrl-Opt-Cmd-Eject shortcut to shutdown doesn't work.
Any ideas or maybe a preference setting somewhere?

A bit of a puzzler there. The button to create a new thread is *not in Safari, it's on the forum page.* (Not the Categories page, a bunch of folders, a level too far back.)

  • Garageband no longer works, after Leopard install

Anyone else have this problem? I installed Leopard. Of course, supposed to be THE up-to-date thing, now Garageband won't let me do a thing. It opens, but not before stating "possible conflict with 3rd party MIDI drivers" ...No idea. That error box will keep popping up, so that I cannot do a THING. I could care less for Midi, just want to record. Any help on what the deal is with Leopard and Garageband?

I was annoyed by the same problems.
But All you want is on the Mac OSX install disc 2.
I think that you may choose the install option from DVD.
Direct internet up-grade option didn't work.
