Resetting The Volume Limit On A 4GB Nano

The iPod history in my family goes like this: when my daughter was 12, I bought her a Shuffle for Christmas. She loved it, used it often and I saw her with it more than twice over that year, which to that point was a miracle for ANYthing I bought her for Christmas, birthday, etc...
So, the next year, I bought her this 4GB Nano for Christmas. As a side deal, I gave her $20 for her Shuffle and I became a subscriber to the iPod culture.
Last week, I won an iPod Touch, and looked at this prize not as mine but as my stepping stone to my Nano, planning to give the Touch to my now-14-year-old daughter.
This transaction happened and yesterday as I downloaded my tunes into my new Nano, I noticed that there is a volume lock. Being a fan of The Who (the band which I believe still holds the record for loudest rock concert), I had to reset that to the highest level possible. When doing so, I found there is a lock code, a four-digit security setting. Great, I thought . . .
So I asked my daughter for the combination and she said that that was something she had been trying for a long time to remember. She then said it is the combination to her seventh-grade locker. I asked what that is and she said she couldn't remember. I got a little miffed and complained to her about the bad deal I was getting in this (you know, this is the acting job part of parenting where the kid is supposed to learn).
Anyway, the big question is, is there a way to re-set that combination without knowing the combination? Thank you for any insight; you are my only hope!

To reset the combo, you will need to select the iPod in iTunes and click Restore.
This will format the iPod and reinstall the iPod OS.
Then just sync the music back to it.

Ask Pete Townshend about that but you better speak *L O U D L Y* because he's pretty much deaf from that.

  • I forgot my passcode for the volume limit, on my iPod Nano 4th Gen. How do I unlock it now?

I don't remember when, but apparently I gave a very low volume limit some time ago, and protected it with a password god knows why. Now i cant remember the password and cant increase the volume enough. Help?

The only way to reset the volume limit passcode is to connect the Nano to your iTunes library and restore it to factory settings.

  • How do I get to the Volume Limit again (iPod Red Nano)

I set this under Volume Limit in the Settings section but then when I went to change it, my thumb slipped and I accidentally set the 4 digit number for the Screen Lock (which I have not set) which was the 1st option. Now when I go back to Volume Limit to change it, I only see the Screen Lock option.
How do I get to change the volume limit again.
    iBook 500 Mhz Ser#UV1331R1LCD Mac OS X (10.4.8)

This is exactly my problem. I have a newly acquired 1st generation Nano. I followed the directions from the knowledge base to the letter. But after confirming the combination, the screen does NOT return to the volume bar to allow a change of the volume limit, and I can find no work around.
Further input would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I turn off the volume limitor on my ipod nano?  I want to play it with a docking station, it is no where near as loud as an old 4GB ipod!

Hello, please can you tell me how to turn off the volume limiotr on my ipod nano?  I want to play it on a docking station and it just isn't as loud as I want it to be.  An old ipod is much louder.

I tend to select things from left to right and every time I am moving in a downward right diagonal motion during lasso selection I am missing a clear view and I am tending to have a more sloppy selection.  All this does is slow me down since I need to go back and hit those areas again.  The big arrowhead just get's in the way.  The original lasso tool with the thin line and small active point at it's lower left was far better for me.
I don't like turning the cursors to precise because I like to see the active tool icon where my cursor is and as the icon changes as I hold modifier keys down.  If I am forced to get comfortable with using pricise cursors I guess I will, but man, I've never had to do this in my 15 years of photoshop use...
I would absolutely LOVE to find a way to get the old lasso icon -- without the arrowhead above it.
Is there any chance this option could be inlcuded in cursor preferences?  I'd give much thanks, Adobe.

  • 30 GB iPod trouble with the volume limit option?

The volume limit continues to reset when I press the center button to desired limit! I rebooted the iPod and still have the same results! Help please?

You have to add the artwork yourself.
Here are a couple of methods.
First off, make sure you have "show album art" enabled in iPod options.

Go to Google Image Search and type in the artist/album name and click on search images.

Double click on a picture you like, then at the top of that page click on "see full size image".

When you get that image, simply copy/paste it into the space for album artwork in iTunes.

Make sure you select the album in the browser of iTunes before you copy/paste.

You'd be surprised what Google Images can bring up. There are literally millions, and even obscure album artwork can be found.
In the unlikely event that Google can’t find an image, you can also get artwork from Amazon.
If you’re happy using images from Amazon, and don’t want to copy/paste, then iTunes Art Importer is a nice free program to do it for you.

  • Why is the sound low on my Ipod?  When I have my earbuds in I have to have the volume almost all the way up.  I have the volume limit maxed out also.  Same thing when I plug it into a boombox

Why does my Ipod play at a low volume?  When I have my earbuds in I have to have it at almost full volume, and when I plug it into a boombox it doesn't play as loud as the radio or a cd.  I have the volume limit turned all the way up in the settings also.  All my songs on my Ipod were burned from cd's(if that helps) thanks.

Sorry, I have the same issue.
So far searching threads here is not coming up with anything.
I have set aside my restore discs, to start the process of ripping the drive clean.
I tried Omni Sweep, but all it did was confirm the space I counted up.
Still does not show what's hidding. 113GB worth on mine.
That software really boggs down the system.
I could not load an email with it running.
    Good LUck as well.

  • How can I over ride the combination code to access the volume limit?

I want to increase my volume limit but there is a combination lock that shows up and I dont know what the code is! Is there some way I can over ride this and increase my volume limit? It's hard to hear any music.

The only way to bypass the volume limit passcode is to restore the device to factory settings in iTunes.

  • How can you take off the volume limit?, How can you take off the volume limit?

How can you take off the volume  limit on iPod touch ?

Which "volume limit" do you mean?
All iPods have a volume limit feature that you can set yourself and on your iPod, go into Settings/Music/Volume Limit. There, you can set the volume limit to maximum, which is the same as turning it off.
However, if you mean the EU (European Union) volume restriction, on all iPods sold inside the EU, you cannot turn that off.

  • Hello, I would like to buy an I Pod Classic 160 GB and have heard that the volume limit in Europe has been reduced from the factory. Are the devices in the U.S.A also affected?

Hello, I would like to buy an I Pod Classic 160 GB and have heard that the volume limit in Europe has been reduced from the factory.
Are the devices in the U.S.A also affected?
    Volker

No, they are not. But getting round this is not that simple.
Until recently, the European Volume Limit that you're referring to affected iPods sold within the EU (European Union countries), so one purchased in the US would not be affected by this. Nor, in theory, would an iPod purchased in Norway or Russia, since neither of them are in the EU.
However, iPod Classics now sold within the UK (where I live) now appear to have an option to disable the EU Volume Limit. I would assume therefore, that this option is available on an iPod Classic bought anywhere within the EU. The firmware on an iPod Classic that can turn off the EU volume Limit is 2.0.5.
iPod Classics running earlier versions of the firmware (including 2.0.4) cannot be upgraded. I have personally seen one with 2.0.5 Mac on it in an Apple Store and the EU limit could be turned off. Check the picture from Badgorr in this thread New Option to turn off EU Volume Cap?  (It's towards the bottom of the page.) However, non-Apple stores may still have older stock, so be aware of this when you go shopping.
Experience tells me that buying an iPod from outside the European Union area is not that simple and you are unlikely to manage it. Apple will not ship goods to another country. So either you travel to the US to buy one from a shop (that's a bit extravagant) or you persuade someone else to buy one and send it to you. However, not only will you have the cost of shipping, but in either case, your country's tax department will almost certainly add tax to it when it comes into the country. The service delivering it will apply the tax and charge you for doing so as well or you get charged by the customs department at the airport.

  • For the iPod Classic, in settings, how does the volume limit work? After setting a limit, how to re-set to a new volume limit?

For the iPod Classic, in settings, how does the volume limit work? After setting a limit, how to re-set to a new volume limit?

This thread - with a quote from an LR4 Beta thread - says that all 6 central Basic controls in PV2012 (Exposure thru Blacks) are now image-adaptive, as were Recovery, Fill Light, and Clarity in previous versions:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4253485
Whether they are suitable for creating a Timelapse sequence without significant flicker is entirely subjective and up to you - and of course, dependant on your specific images & how they change over time.  Sorry, not much advice beyond try PV2012, and revert back to PV2010 if you get too much flicker.

  • HT4085 The volume icon won't leave the screen and I can't seem to reset the volume. Does anyone know how to fix this?

My iPad2 will not clear the volume icon from the screen no matter what I do. I've reset the ipad and nothing I do will make that icon go away and I can no longer control the volume. Am I missing something here, or does this warrant a trip to the Apple store?

The volume icon on the screen means that the pad thinks you are pressing the volume rocker on the side.   Make sure that it is not being pressed by a case, or a dent, or anything else.  Make sure it rocks back and forth freely without getting stuck.
If it moves freely, and if you have already done a full reboot, then a trip to the store may be in order.

  • Why does the Volume Limit keep Changing?

Hello, I have an I-pod Classic 80 GB and the maxium volume limit will change from time to time on it's own. I want it at maxium so I go to volume settings move the little arrow to the limit and press the center to lock it in and fiddle with that stupid combination crap but it will never stay put! So, how can I keep the volume settings from changing?

    (a) You will always get a different client side port, that's normal.
    (b) the Registry port is 1099 but RMI servers are exported on a system-selected port unless you specify one. If your Registry and RMI servers are in the same JVM they can share ports
