Resistry Keeps Reverting After Reboot

Hi,
I am trying to change a few settings to replicate how another xp machine is,  however most settings in the needed hive keep reverting back to their value when I reboot and if I delete the value, it reappears after reboot also.
The hive is \\my computer\HKLM/software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon
I get a file called test.sdb on the desktop if I change some gpedit settings but I'm not sure which ones specifically. if this is unrelated to the issue please ignore it.
How do I find the cause of this or stop regedit from reverting these reg keys?

This can be due to group policies, SCCM scripts, startup scripts, or any schedules task. Please verify if anyone of these is causing trouble.

That has not worked. I do it and still it reverts. Isn't there a way to tell Firefox to just go back to default settings?

I am having issues and permanent encounter in having my removed login items reappearing after reboot. I have very MANY of the same programs in 'open at Login accounts' eg: Messenger,Safari,Skype,Evernote,Dropbox, antivirus, but they are listed dozens of times. in this 'open at login' area.
Here's the steps I have taken:
    1) Open Applications, Account Preferences, cluck my administrator acc, select program to delete, click on - and wait.
    2) Remove some login items (with or without unlocking the lock, doesn't seem make a difference, tried both)
    3) Login items are now fewer
    4) Reboot
    5) voila, the removed login items are still loaded and displayed in login item tab.
How does one solve this? Tried to google, but....

    Strange,but try these 2...

  • Display properties revert after reboot

I have an ASUS P8P67 EVO mobo, two identical ATI 4650 Raedon cards, and 3 monitors. When the system was built, two or the monitors (on one of the cards, in the secondary slot) were positioned and set to portrait, and the third (in the primary slot) to landscape.
I recently got a dual monitor stand, and wanted the two portrait monitors to be rotated to landscape. Do all the usual Windows personalizations stuff, 'position' the monitors, save/apply, and reboot.
The monitors came back as portrait. Repeat to the point of annoyance, and try things:
clean start, driver updates, Catalyst Control Center updates, remove/install/remove DiaplayFusion Pro, remove video card, video card / monitor swaps, reset CMOS. In every case, the issue returns - the monitor(s) on the secondary card boots into portrait.
    I'm out of ideas.
The hardware configuration now has two monitors on the prior one monitor' (primary) card, running in landscape. The third monitor, now on the original #2 monitor card (secondary), demonstrates the issue.
Any clues would be welcomed. Thanks,
    rr

    I have made some progress.
My suspicion was that 'something' was changing the  HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/GraphicsDrivers/Configration
back from what the AMD Catalyst software did (and I wanted) and that it was happening after, not before, the winlogon screen appeared. The timing came from having the winlogon monitor 'proper' and waiting for my password, and then a black out / redraw
    happened.
So, I downloaded sys internals Process Monitor, and logged everything that happened at boot. Quite a lot of stuff.
To make a long story shorter, Windows Live Mesh is REALLY interested in the graphics config of my machine. So, I used CCleaner to disable the startup .exe ( \Windows Live\Mesh\WLSync.exe ) and computer management / services to disable the Windows Live
    Mesh remote connections service.
Reboot the machine, and the monitor / desktop orientation, positioning and resolutions are just as I set them up. Semi-success!!
    Things left to do:
    1) I wouldn't call it a bug, but it is pretty inappropriate behavior. Should I report it to Microsoft, and if so, how?
    2) I do not know if the 'sync' part of Live Mesh or the Remote Access part, or both, contribute to this behavior. A few more reboots should clear that up.
    3) I'd prefer to be able to still use Live Mesh, but not at this cost. So, I'll be needing a workaround.
More as I know it. Thanks for all of your hints / tips / clues.

I had the exact same issue and was blaming ATI all this time...
I would make my display change and everything was 1080p loveliness and then after a system boot the desktop would load with 1080p and then flash black and come back 720p or worse. After disabling everything on startup and reverting back to ancient
ATI drivers :)  I un-installed the Microsoft Virtual driver as i suspected it could be causing the issue. No fix... didn't think at the time that there was a service that tied into it.
After a few more hours of troubleshooting and disabling other services and attempting an ATI profile script to work around the issue i stumbled here and i am glad i did.
"Windows Live Mesh remote connections service" was then
disabled and everything is back to normal.
I have also used mesh and live on multiple machines however this is the only one that is connected
at 1080p to a HDTV and it may not be able to handle that resolution by default.

  • G4 +23" CD Not keeping resolution after reboot

    Heya folks I have a powerbook g4 and a cinema display 23".
I have been using the 2 of them together without problems, but I recently installed some of the apple service updates and after doing so I am having problems with with the external monitor.
In the past I was able to use a mirriored display and had full range of motion on the external monitor.
Now every time I boot up my external monitor screen gets compressed, and though both are set at 1280x800, the mouse goes side to side on the laptop display, but only about 3/4ths of the way on the external.
So now my mouse on the external display is out of snyc and when I click it, I have to click where it is on the laptop display, not the external.
I can fix this by going to the display setting control pannel and changing the resolution to any other size, then changing it back to 1280x800. Once I do this, everything works fine and the mouse can go from side to side in snyc with the laptop.
Unfortunately this only works until I reboot or shut down, every time I start over I have to do the same thing.
I have tried other resoultions on both the powerbook and the exernal monitor and have restarted with different settings on both both higher and lower resolutions, but I run into the same problem no matter what I do.
Any ideas on this? Very odd since it worked fine for months before these patches.
    Chris

While I think the idea of following your steps to determine if the Sonnet is
overheating is a good one, your solution of leaving thee case open and running
a fan on the processor certainly is not. It is not only dangerous, but cooling systems in computers are designed to be closed systems, and leaving open the side will disrupt the cooling for every other part of the computer.
Also, notice in the original post that the system "is crashing more frequently" -
sounds like there was a problem before the Sonnet install. A fresh install sounds like it's needed in any case, and the investment in a new dvd drive for only $40 will be a worthwhile one even if the problem is the Sonnet card in the end. Drives that are 6 or 7 years old, even if they are working, are bound to be producing discs with more errors, and the firmware on a drive that old would recognize little of the current crop of blank discs. Even with an external burner, that machine needs a good internal burner because you can't boot externally. The original poster actually only needs to spend $20 on a cd only burner like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=20101000051036506652&name=CDBurner,
although a dvd burner would allow installation from a dvd.

  • Wacom Intuos4 tablet settings keep resetting after reboot

I am not sure if anyone else is seeing this but on my fresh install of 10.6, I installed the latest drivers for my Wacom Intuos4 tablet and every time I reboot, the configurations are reset to defaults.
I've also noticed that when I go into the Wacom preference pane in System Preferences, along with other preference panes (like Growl, for example), I have to restart the System Preference app.
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

This is a known issue with the current Wacom driver and it will have to be fixed by them in an update. In the meantime, you can make the preferences save by quitting System Preferences after changing any tablet settings and then reopening the Wacom prefpane in System Preferences and closing it again.

  • MDT 2012 Update 1 - Attempting to capture Windows Thin PC but it keeps looping after reboot.

I have been trying to capture a master image of Windows Thin PC we have prepared using MDT 2012 Update 1 but to no avail. When attempting the capture process using LiteTouch.vbs it syspreps and then reboots as it normally would and then it simply keeps rebooting
over and over in a loop.
I am unsure of how to bypass this and correctly capture Windows Thin PC using MDT 2012 Update 1. If anyone has any advice or feedback they can offer I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Logs suggest that the script is most likely crashing early on.
I suspect that the reason for this is that the deployment share was *updated* from a previous version of MDT, and some files are out of date.
Can you update the share (full update, regenerate from scratch?)
Otherwise we may need to run Litetouch.wsf manually from within WinPE:
When WinPE Boots and you have a mouse, press F8.
Run TaskMgr.exe and verify that wscript.exe is no longer running (wait 2 minutes).
    Then run the following command:
    "cscript.exe x:\deploy\scripts\litetouch.wsf /debug:true /debugcapture"
That should run the litetouch.wsf script and it should display any errors if found.

  • Keyboard shortcuts keep vanishing after reboot/restart

    Hello,
In  System Preferences -> Keyboard&Mouse, my keyboard shortcuts frequently vanish after a reboot/restart.  This happens over 60 percent of the time and I have to enter them all over again.  Very irritating..  Is this a known bug?  And is there any way to really 'save' keyboard shortcuts?
    Thanks,
    kds-kds

I have the same problem but it only appears to be with one device (iPhone 5).  My iPad and Mac seem to be fine.  I even tried a hard reset of the iPhone but that did not help.

  • Contact keeps reverting after resizing

I have a contact picture set already but when I go into the contacts app the circle doesn't show their face. I press on edit and try to change it to their face. After saving, about 10 seconds later the contact circle reverts to not showing the face again. This doesn't happen to all my contacts, some I've successfully edited. The only kind of contacts I have on my phone are icloud and I'm running the latest ios 8 on iphone 6.

This can be due to group policies, SCCM scripts, startup scripts, or any schedules task. Please verify if anyone of these is causing trouble.

  • P67A-GD65 : Boot sequence keeps changing after installing SSD

    Hi,
Before I had the SSD, all was fine and running on IDE.  After installing SSD and changing mode to AHCI, the boot sequence keeps changing after reboot.  I did not reset the CMOS after installing the SSD.  I had disabled all boot except for the SSD (which is connected to SATA Port 1).  And I did save by pressing F10 after changing the sequence in BIOS.
    Appreciate your advise.
    Thank you.

I have the same problem. The board decides to try and boot from some other device, even though the SSD is detected. Very annoying.
I'm using the sata cable that came with the board; e.g. brand new.

  • Dreamweaver template (.dwt) keeps reverting to old version after reopening CS3

I work locally on all files and upload as needed.  After chaging template and applying it, I can upload all associated pages just fine.  If I close DW and reopen, the old version of the template is there without any changes -- even though I saved the template.
Also, updating the template will change all other web pages except index.html.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Sure.  No nested templates to my knowledge -- especially since I only have one template.  Look like I have some regions in my index.html that don't match the .dwt -- even though the .dwt was created from the .html.  When I tried to update the .html, it really screws up the content.  Let's kill the 1st bird first -- why my ,dwt file keeps reverting to an old version.  Here is the code for the template.  Again, thank you!

I Have the same issue on a brand new iPad mini 2. My battery is only lasting up to 5 hours. I went on chat with Apple last night and they said my battery is fine and its a Safari issue. I'm literally losing 1% every 3-4 minutes. I tried recalibrating my battery, signing out of iCloud, shutting off all locations, turning off background app refresh, restoring network settings, restoring all, and finally restoring from iTunes with no luck. This is just awful. I got this iPad so I could use it on my long flight for a trip I have coming up, and unfortunately, it's not going to last that long, plus I'm concerned about how many times i will be recharging my battery because of this since battery's do have a life cycle dependent on the number of charges. This is frustrating and needs to be fixed ASAP and addressed by Apple.
By the way, Apple told me to bring my device to the Apple Store because it's still under warranty. That's great and all, but I'm going to waste my time if there is no fix for this issue.
Ok so you want Apple to address the problem, but yet you don't want to take it to them just in case they can't fix it? What if they can fix it? Complaining here certainly won't fix it.

  • Info for purchased items (e.g., genre, year) keeps reverting to what's assigned by iTunes store after I change it

Problem that seems to have cropped up recently...
For purchased items, the changes I make to track info keep reverting to what the iTunes store had initially assigned. For example, genre - I've created some of my own, or changed the assigned genre for some songs after downloading. These genres determine where songs show up in my various smart playlists. They also keep my similar music together. I've painstakingly changed genres on downloaded music, but when I look at my library in song view the next time I launch iTunes, they're all back to what they were when I downloaded them.
This also happens for all the other details: album, year, album artist, etc. It's driving me mad!
    Please advise.
I want Devo under New Wave, dammit, not Pop. Why can't I change these and have them stay that way? Anyone else finding this?

Anyone else?  You obviously have not been looking at the past 24 hours posts.

  • Bluetooth problems: prefs revert to defaults after reboot

    Hi there,
I have a strange problem with Bluetooth and wireless input devices. I have set up Apple wireless keyboard and mouse, and also ticked "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" in Bluetooth preferences. However, after I reboot bluetooth icon disappears from the menu bar, and Magic Mouse prefs revert to defaults.
Apart from that, I am not able to tick "Allow Bluetooth devices wake up this computer" in Preferences – Bluetooth – Advanced.
    What can it possibly be?
Before that I had the same issue with Dock (its icons would return to a certain state every time after reboot, no matter how I'd change or rearrange them before restarting). I managed to solve Dock issue by trashing Dock .plist files. I guess it may be the same with Bluetooth, but I don't know which .plist to trash this time (tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist, it doesn't work).

I don't have a logitech mouse, but is it possible that the mouse is going to sleep during the reboot, and is thus unavailable when the OS is looking for it?
